I read that he also suffers from "survivor syndrome", troubles sleeping and still has a very hard go of things. I hope he finds peace someday soon...
I love Harrison's story. He is now a rescue diver!! Insane how if he had escaped the sinking ship, he probably would have been lost at sea and drowned. No way would they have found him swimming in the high seas.

Watching Harrison when he was found, you can see the fear in his eyes and body, but, still see a massive relief that he is found. I can't imagine something like that.
One of the craziest parts about Harrisons story, is that someone calculated how much air was in that pocket, and they estimated it would be enough for a human to survive approximately 60 hours in... almost exactly at the point that they located him. So not only was he freezing, starving, dehydrated, and possibly hallucinating he was on the brink of death from CO2 not to mention the immense fear and trauma in that situation.
I would have never made it that long I have severe claustrophobia so I might have lasted a few hours but that would have been it especially down there in the dark what a horrible horrible way to die
The story of the guy surviving in the air pocket of the sunken ship has always baffled me the footage of him being found is so crazy. That man is truly blessed
I remember when his story first aired. The news didn’t describe the details quite as well but i have always been in awe of him, snd whoever kept him safe those 3 days
The look we first see on Harrison’s face (first story) broke my heart & made me tear up. I’ve never seen someone look so scared. God bless him, his rescuers and everyone that perished in the sinking ship. I never could’ve been so strong.
@Facts Verse You never know until you have to. I think the statement I'd make is that I can't imagine ever being so strong, and that I hope I never have to be so strong.
MrBallen: "Now, I want you to think about this..." Me: "I have literally not stopped thinking about a single thing you have said for like 2 months now."
That look on Harrison's face when he's unbelievably, inconceivably, somehow.... rescued... It makes you want to weep with both joy and sadness. Joy that this poor man was saved, sadness that anybody should have to go through something like that. I really hope that incredible man has found happiness and fulfillment in his life. He deserves it.
The fact that Harrison was in desperate need of rescue but he still managed to consider not wanting to scare the diver just blows my mind. Had I been in that situation k would have FREAKED out and grabbed on to the guy probably scaring the hell out of him. But no, he kept his composure and took into consideration the diver's reaction to finding him. What an absolute Chad. What an absolute HARRISON!
Really smart on Harrison's part. I've watched enough of cave diving gone wrong to know that if Harrison had panicked the diver he might have killed them both.
I was visualizing the exact image of the same poor, afraid, and confused man...I remember seeing this footage a while back. I truly understand the hate for the ocean and it's deep, inky black depths. An unfathomable and vast abyss where "nightmares" swim. The mysterious nature, the lack of control one feels while swimming below intense pressures the soft, supple human body can hardly handle. The fact that your vision is obscured and your imagination takes hold, also adds to its intensity. Many who have been lost at sea have never been found. Terrifying can be perceived as an understatement. Octopuses are cool though! The "Vampire Squid" is dope as frick! 🐙🦑
I seen this on Mysteries at the Museum. They weren't equipped to bring him up because they didn't think anyone would have survived it. They had to bring him warm bottles of water to raise his body temperature. You can find the video of the rescue on TH-cam. I agree the look on his face. Its like hes in utter disbelief.
The story of Harrison will stay with me for a long time. It's so remarkable that there is actual footage of him in his small airspace. I'm so glad he had a loving wife to go home to. I'm sure he continued to suffer from the trauma, but it sounds like she is the type of person who would do all she could to help him. I hope they have found comfort. 🙏
Yeah his wife is a real one because it clearly can't be easy on either of them. I've been through night terrors myself from personal stuff but that is next level. He clearly and rightly so has severe ptsd most people suffer in most cases a couple minutes or even seconds of the emotion he did but experiencing that level of emotional trauma for days is pretty unbelievable. Not a religious person but he for sure had someone or thing looking down on him during that time.
@@brettpearce8843 You know who was looking down on him? Harrison. He survived, he had the survival instinct to make a raft, and after his PTSD emotional Trauma and who knows what. You know what he does? He becomes a certified Dive Team member and was handed the certificate by the same man that saved him and took care of him. That's pure iron will. to survive and push forward.
Can we just take a minute to appreciate this man endangering his own life by standing on a beach in the middle of a thunderstorm just to tell us stories with some ambience? What a devoted raconteur.
I saw an episode of "I Survived" that talked about Deborah and brads being lost at sea story. It had to have been so agonizingly painful to watch your friends be eaten by sharks right underneath you. I couldn't even imagine the fear
I seen that episode I love watching that show and “I survived beyond and back” the stories I have listened to has made more aware of my surroundings and how quick we could lose our life. Watching Harrison face as he sees the diver is a priceless look is like he was surprised and wanted to cry all at once, God blessed him and God bless every diver or public services that risk themselves to help those in need.
I cried a bit when he said "he gently grabbed his had and squeezed" Like he's right no one lives for 3 days under water. I was expecting that dude to be shark food.
That's the most pathetic crap I've ever heard. Sharks swimming down the hallways eating bodies. Whata garbage story. Only a jackass would believe this story
@Lazamarie they decompose. They don't just get eaten by sharks. Sharks have attacked people but they don't go slamming their heads into the ship to get after humans and then go swimming down the hallways. Only a jackass would believe that
I didn't go to war and thank you for your service but I did almost drown and I'll tell you that the beer and burger I had later that day was something special😁 thanks again have a good one
This is literally the most addictive TH-cam channel that I've ever (accidentally) discovered! Ballen could tell a story about a woman eating a tuna sandwich and it would probably be RIVETING!!!!
I watched the video of the divers who entered the sunken ship Harrison was in, they were there to locate bodies and no one was expecting to find a survivor. It's really amazing footage and found here on youtube. It's such a happy moment when they pop up into an air bubble in the ship to find Harrison, who thought he was hallucinating when he first saw them.
The story is incredible and moveing, however I think it would make a better book than movie. I think it would be hard to make an entertaining movie out of 60 hours of sitting underwater. It would definitely make a better book.
@@Zillzbillz I think it would be easy. Some of the time would be pre storm set up, then the storm, then the rogue wave and sinking, then getting to safety in the air pocket, then building up the courage to make the swim to get him higher in the water, then plenty of time with the sea creatures/sharks, then the rescue etc. Google say the rights at least a one stage were bought by castlight, and they even said at the time the story was even more interesting than had been reported by 2013 when that article was written.
I was on a cruise 2 years ago around Italy and Spain. It’s mind blowing- you go below deck and it feels HUGE. Nightclubs, restaurants, cinemas, casinos. You go up on deck and look out and you’ve never felt so small in your life. The ocean is incredibly fascinating and terrifying.
Nothing makes you feel as tiny and helpless as the ocean does....that feeling of being at the mercy of the vast open water is truly a humbling experience 🌊
When he first saw the divers lights, he said he thought they were angels coming for him and he was about to die! How terrifying, how claustrophobic! I would go insane.
Ya i had to stop the video right when he said "i want you to think about this" i was already thinking about it and was already terrified. Thats it that is as far as i can go right now. I dont want to picture anything further. I know the guy lives but the terror he must have felt stops me from even listening.
Ya because TH-cam has come to try and hide paranormal/ conspiracy type of videos. Lucky his hasn’t been messed with. That and he’s been working extremely diligent, hard and consistently just pumping out these little videos really fast.

The Deborah Kiley story was actually told by her on a video of “I survived” and it’s insane to hear it from her view. The pain in her voice and you can see her reliving it in her eyes as she tells the stories.
Saw Harrison’s rescue footage about a year ago and couldn’t believe how calm he was. He was the cook and the guy guiding the divers said “The cook, they always live.” 😂
Same ! I almost did flips in the lounge when I saw that ! the horror, being trapped in the dark with those sharks, how that guy doesn't have an alcohol problem or an addiction to tranquillizers...
When you showed the video of Harrison and how he had reacted to being saved by that diver I just started crying. Actually seeing him just overcame me with emotion. Im so glad he made it
I'm a huge huge Horror fanatic, books/movies/games anything i can get my hands on basically. Harrison's story will forever be the scariest thing ever to me! Imagine how that guy felt seeing those lights etc coming through the pitch blackness of the ocean... Apparently he still feels like he's underwater when its dark at night, i really hope the poor guy gets the help he needs to get through that ordeal :(
There are something's when someone experiences there isn't a way to heal it. Try to get on with life ya. Take the Marines for example. Smallest branch by far averaging 200,000 at any given time. But do some of the fierciest fighting and have to go places first others don't. They can be deployed for 6 months without Congress declaring war. They have the highest suicide rate of all the other branches combined numbers. The brain literally rewires itself to survive and deal with the trauma. If you've ever been in the military or even prison you'll know your surprised at how you can live while you have to. You can come back from both a straight primal animal. Ive seen some truly horrible things people can't imagine. Like New Orleans streets during Mardi gras and seen machine guns open fire into them. So packed people can't move up and down the street barely. No one tells you of the 1.5 million Iraqis civilians we killed. In the first 72 hours of the invasion we went through 100,000 .50 machine gun rounds. And in the first year over 100,000 civilians had been killed. You only have a split second to decide to pull that trigger or not. And I'd rather do it and be a mistake then not do it and have another of my men go home in a box because I hesitated going house to house day after day and you know the people in the streets know but won't help. Because Everytime a major ambush would happen no kids would be in the street houses and shops would be empty and you knew a ied and machine guns and RPGs are about to kick off to the point your just ready for them to start shooting at you. Whatever the survival experience, as long as you remember it you'll never fully be healed always will have triggers and ticks but you can get to a point you can manage. If you didn't have the memory of the event it wouldn't make you into the survivor these people are today. Good can come from some of the most horrific acts. That's why for some traumatic experiences the brain blocks out what really happened and you may remember just bits and pieces of it. Your brain trys to protect you. whether on the ocean a mountain a desert, jungle, war whatever you do whatever it takes to survive
I don't care for the ocean either it is scary to me as well. I was born and raised in Colorado surrounded by the rocky mountains I love the mountains but can do without the ocean lol
harrisons story gave me goosebumps. I just cant imagine being in such a dire completely hopeless lonely situation, being kept alive by merely an air pocket for several days, then having somebody come and save you. Absolutely nobody is as lucky as that man. I watched the short little clip of his rescue and the look on his face is priceless. Hes completely astonished that there's suddenly a live person floating in front of him. cant imagine.
He may have thought about it a few times, but he was definitely a SEAL first. He has said after 3 years of service, this is kinda what he fell into. Apparently he was on Tic Toc first, but I just came across him randomly. It’s wonderful I did!
Oddly enough I needed to hear that second story today. It immediately snapped me out of a mentally and physically down day in an instant. It’s amazing how powerful our minds are. When you shift your perspective you’re instantly able to see how important your mind set really is.
You're talking about the guy who swam towards the land his mind showed him, and the other guy who, at the very moment it crossed his mind, he simply jumped off to go to the store, right? Because the ones who survived are those who simply kept their mind from interfering.
abbey lunden it is really scary!! I went on just a little cruise from Florida to the Bahamas it was only 6 hours but it turned into the longest 6 hours on my life!! The waves were enormous and the boat kept rocking from side to side. I had been drinking before we set sail and had fallen asleep in a lounge chair by the pool. Next thing I know I’m being thrown from my chair by the boat rocking so hard and water, ocean water not pool water, hitting me in the face! I had to crawl to an interior door to get actually inside the ship to “safety”. They had us all in the dining room sitting along the walls and I was literally watching tables and chairs slide/fly from one side of the room to the other side! When we finally docked I the Bahamas I was frozen in fear and had to be carried by my husband and 1 of our friends off the ship. We even extended our vacation by 4 days because I was so terrified of getting back on that cruise ship. My husband had to eventually buy us plane tickets to fly back to the states because there was no way I was stepping foot back onto any ship ever again. To this day I still wake up with nightmares about that cruise ship! I’m like you and WILL NEVER AGAIN TAKE A CRUISE! I don’t care how short or long the trip is, I’m not getting onto another ship! I don’t even go out on our boat anymore and that is only on a little lake...the fear never goes away. Drowning is by far the worst way to go imo and try acts only because I have actually been in the situation to drown. Anyway, I’m sorry you had to experience something so traumatic and life changing. Much love & respect to you 💜
@abbey lunden @Rykers Mimi that sounds horrifying. My sister told me how they were at dinner on her cruise and she looked down at her glass on the table and the water inside of it was tilted because of the ship. That was enough for me. Add in stories like this and it's just a no all around. Every now and then when I talk with my mom and sister about going on a girls trip, my mom will bring up how great it would be if we went on a cruise. Hard no. I'll take a plane, zipline, white water raft, sky dive, go on all the rollercoasters, I'll try just about anything once. But this is the line. We can stay in sight of shore but venturing out into the deep where nature can decide to send a massive wall of water that's able to topple pretty much anything in its way leaving you stranded and helpless is my boundary.
@@lilsloth2269 oh man, that's a tough call there! I'm terrified of drowning though so...idk. Eaten would probably be quicker but, lol uugh. Running out of air like in Harrison's case (if he wasn't rescued in time) would be the best I think since I believe you just pass out 1st.
When I get overwhelmed or depressed I listen to ur awesome voice telling me stories that life could be soooo much worse. Then I snap out of it and go back to being a nurse. Thank you xoxo
Point one: The only fear I've ever had is a fear of being trapped under the water and ultimately drowning, the "being trapped" part being what I fear the most. Point two: There is seemingly nothing that can keep me from watching or pull me away from Mr. Ballen's story time Final point: I was having a panic attack listening to this story but at the same time completely unable to turn it, there are not too many other things in this world that are so enjoyable and so anxiety inducing at the same time lol
I'm six minutes in and I all most can't listen to anymore...this is one of my worst fears. I'm going to force my way through because I love your story but just know this is taking some serious effort.
This reminds me of when I read “unbroken” that story was insane. Crashes his bomber, almost drowns, lives on a raft for 47 days with nearly nothing to eat, actually started trying to catch the sharks that would not stop circling the boat to eat and succeeded, shot off a flare hoping a plane would see them ( turns out it was a Japanese plane) the Japanese start firing at them with machine guns, he has to jump into the water and fight a shark, has to then get back on the raft and try to repair it, finally reach an island, the island is controlled by the Japanese, he becomes a POW and gets sent to a camp, is forced to deal with an extremely brutal man, is beaten and starved and forced into labor, the atomic bomb is dropped, Japan surrenders, miraculously the pows in his camp were not executed, they then have to wait for help, it finally comes, he has horrible ptsd that he would take years to recover from.
I've been in "total darkness" before. Only a few seconds in a controlled environment. I started freaking out. Add being under the ocean, alone, losing air, for 60 hours...I couldn't handle it.
Wait were you in that cave where they turn off all the lights for a few seconds and you are in total darkness? I can't remember what the cave was called, but was it in a cave?
I remember seeing the article online about Harrison being found. I am so appreciative of the work you did to compose the "rest of the story" I think this is about as close to a miracle as one can get!
Harrison is awesome! I am so glad that he was rescued. With that being said, Bless his heart for going through this horrible event, and I am so very sorry that he has residual effects and nightmares. Keep up the good content, MrBallen.

But as a testament to your commitment to your craft). "Literally" used out of context yet again on social media.
Apparently he is now a commercial diver, in hopes of rescuing someone like he was
Yea I teared up a bit on that one...I guess it was more personal actually seeing that exact moment he realized he was going to be safe
One hell of a story to tell his grandkids how he got to school
I bet he was like: How did you find me, I though I was going to win this hide and seek for sure.
I definitely cried!
That's not something folx would immediately think of. Harrison is a champion for sure. 😊❤
Gosh, Harrison is literally the most badass and luckiest man in the world.....
What a madlad
DEF a lucky guy! Jeeeezzzz sooo crazy!
If he was lucky he wouldn't even be in that situation but yeah, definitely at least lucky enough to survive it
But now sadly he’s going to suffer from the trauma of this horrible event for the rest of his life ):

Same here. Incredible
Omg me too! Wow
You can definitely tell you have a passion for this when you tell your stories!! I can’t stop watching them!

There’s actually an entire video of the rescue. It’s awesome.
The look on Harrison’s face when the diver reached him was emotional to watch, cannot even imagine the relief he must of felt at that moment

That diver almost certainly pooped his wet suit
I made it through that, but the shock and relief on his face finally made me tear up. 🥺
That's the most pathetic crap I've ever heard. Sharks swimming down the hallways eating bodies. Whata garbage story. Only a jackass would believe this story
@@zachkennedy9282 what DO you think happens to bodies under water? I’m honestly very curious.
@Lazamarie they decompose. They don't just get eaten by sharks. Sharks have attacked people but they don't go slamming their heads into the ship to get after humans and then go swimming down the hallways. Only a jackass would believe that
"There is never a day where you are more thankful for life than the day you almost die." Very powerful and very, very true words.

Do they pay y’all to say this
I watched the video of the divers who entered the sunken ship Harrison was in, they were there to locate bodies and no one was expecting to find a survivor. It's really amazing footage and found here on youtube. It's such a happy moment when they pop up into an air bubble in the ship to find Harrison, who thought he was hallucinating when he first saw them.
Oh Harrison needs his story told as a movie
The odds of both surviving and then being rescued, that footage is very moving.
The story is incredible and moveing, however I think it would make a better book than movie. I think it would be hard to make an entertaining movie out of 60 hours of sitting underwater. It would definitely make a better book.
@@Zillzbillz I thought exactly the same thing!
Hi didn't expect to see you here
I was on a cruise 2 years ago around Italy and Spain.

I read that at first he thought angels were coming to get him!

Oddly enough I needed to hear that second story today. It immediately snapped me out of a mentally and physically down day in an instant. It’s amazing how powerful our minds are. When you shift your perspective you’re instantly able to see how important your mind set really is.
Guuurl pls
You're talking about the guy who swam towards the land his mind showed him, and the other guy who, at the very moment it crossed his mind, he simply jumped off to go to the store, right? Because the ones who survived are those who simply kept their mind from interfering.
How old is you son?
You’ve made me very okay with never going on a cruise
And this story is just one of dozens of reasons to not go on a cruise.
abbey lunden it is really scary!!
Ive been on a cruise. Its actually pretty awesome nothing like having free food all day. And you can have anything

@@carldrogo9492 I agree, God was looking out for him. I know not everyone believes in divine intervention, but I don't think anyone is foolish for believing that Jesus miraculously protected Harrison's life. I don't know how or why, but I'm not ashamed to call events like this a wonderful miracle.
@@CareenasAdventures Amen.
Luck had nothing to do with it. He was praying for 60 hours and the Lord heard him. Praise the Lord for His wonderful mercy!
That man had someone watching over him, it’s not your time Harrison.
Yes he was a Christian and said he prayed to Jesus the whole time
I don't think dead bodies can really watch anyone
@@SkittleBurstsxoxo there’s always one
@@vpeterson806 why didn't jesus help his other creations on that ship?
@@garrettwalker1068 what the fuck man. I know atheists love to complain about religious people, but leave the dead out of it
god the first story....I can’t imagine his fear OR his relief. the look on his face made me tear up. What an incredible story. I hope that man is able to find peace one day.
I have heard this poor man’s horrific ordeal told by numerous different people now over the years….
However yours is the first to actually describe it from his point of view…. And it just makes it all the more terrifying..!
The way you paint a story with your words, is absolutely incredible.
Harrison's story and real footage brought tears to my eyes 🥺😢 what a terrifying experience
I'm crying! Bless Harrisons heart! I am so very thankful they found him. I couldn't imagine how this has affected him.
I mean this must be one of the best TH-cam channels ever and I’m not even kidding
I’ve already heard this story yet the way Mr. Ballen tells it is making me soooo nervous! I need to watch this later.
Gifted unpretentious conversational storyteller, inclusive communicator and welcoming guide into the journey of a story for a listening life-traveler searching for both involvement and inclusion. Good man! Your skill is timeless!
You write very well Sir, English is my second language and I'm always afraid to post a message that would sound incorrect, you have said everything I wanted to say to Mr Ballen, I agree 100%
I cannot even imagine being in Harrison’s situation. You’re inside of a boat that has sunk and is sitting at the bottom of the ocean... complete darkness around you & sounds of water flapping from sea-creatures entering around you. Holy shit! His real life encounter is far worse than any nightmare I’ve ever had!!
Omg. I just wanna hug Harrison. 😭 You are such an incredible story teller. I have been binging your videos for a couple weeks now.
Wow! That story about Harrison, I couldn't stop thinking how lonely and scary it must've been for him! His willingness to fight to live and be in survival mode in that situation (no matter how long it could take) makes him a really tough guy! I'm so glad he was able to be found!
I'm not a fan of the ghost and demon stories, but the real ones about people surviving or dying in this hostile envinroments are surely one of your best.
