I’m a maintenance guy for the local school district. My work van was parked in front of a high school and while unloading some materials I was going to need, I was listening to this channel on the vans sound system. A couple of kids walked by and one looked at me and smiled. “MrBallen is the shit, eh Mr. G?” I’m 46 and he can’t be more than 17. It was cool to have something in common.
I had a similar episode during a migraine attack. I wandered off from the ER and everyone was looking for me. It was a really hot summer night & I went to a fast-food restaurant for water. It had just closed, but the employees opened the door for me. They called the police because I was really out of it. They came and took me back to the hospital, but I have no memory of that. I also couldn't speak for a day due to aphasia. It was scary & my family was furious with me thinking I did it on purpose. I totally understand how Hannah probably felt. A GPS tracker necklace or bracelet would've helped find her.
I had a migraine do the same for me, it's sadly how I got my official diagnosis. Luckily a friend spotted me and took me home just an hour after I had cut a hole through my parent's backyard fence. Also for 2 days after I could only speak in asl. It hasn't happened since, but I'm still scared to live alone or go anywhere without telling someone.
So my name is Lindsey, I was Hannah’s roommate in the Virgin Islands.. along with 3 other girls.. and pretty much everything you said is accurate about her story and her character.. except you left out the part about we had just gone through 1 category5 Hurricane (Irma) on Sept 6… then within a cpl of days we find out ANOTHER ONE (Maria) is following right behind… so obviously this was an extremely stressful time and could easily be a trigger…. Also… every time she has gone missing it has been at the beginning of a new school year.. which is also a stressful time.. and I was the last person to see her.. it was early in the morning right around sunrise and she was leaving and said she was going to go check out sapphire before going to set up her classroom (trying to get things organized enough so the kids would have somewhere to go bc the island was wrecked)… I have racked my brain for the last 4 years wondering what really happened to her.. but I don’t think she PLANNED to leave and start a new life… I kind of feel like she had a fugue.. went to the water like she had done the previous times.. and tried to swim.. even though she was a very strong swimmer… there was so much debris in the water and crazy currents that even the strongest swimmer would be taken under…. I hate to think she is dead but that seems most likely
That point really contraticted his very next sentence! She wasnt close to 4 people that shared the same house to the point no one cared they hadnt seen her for 4 days but next sesntence she was lived by everyone, life n soul of the party!! It doesnt really have any relivence now as we know she had this brain problem but ive noticed that everyone who goes missing seems to be described as being loved by everyone and when they walk into a room brings joy, they were the life n soul!! No one ever seems to be borin or unoticable, quiet and shy, brought the energy down when they enterd the room!! I know plenty of people like that who are more reserved than extrovert! Just a point, no need for a reply
I have a girl at work that does this. She randomly forgets who she is and tells me that I'm the only one she knows. We would have to lead her to the bathroom where she would go into the stall and come out seconds later like nothing happened. Even had a customer review saying that a female worker was following him out the store asking him where the bathroom is. We joke about it lightly once she got medication which seem to work for a couple of years, but then randomly it started happening again. This was different tho. She would scream like she was in pain while shaking. Broke my heart to see her go through that. She took a couple months off and now she says they uped her dose and it's better now. She would do a lot of crazy things. Even got naked in our lobby right next to an old couple but we caught her and put her in the bathroom before to much was seen. I love that girl with all my heart. Scary to think that this just happens to people.
I like how this woman goes missing TWICE in the same manner, was diagnose with this rare case amnesia, and all of her close ones are like, "Yeah. I think she'll be fine on her own." Freedom be damned put a GPS into that woman if you have to.
You know ... on a almost day to day basis I wonder how people are so stupid in what they say or their actions etc... and then I think nooooo these people cannot be this stupid they are acting out in some way for attention for acceptance something... and then it gets confirmed they really are stupid stupid people out there who actually can live day to day and be dumber than a wet paper bag .... this is Hanna’s parents ... these have to be the people that manufactures put on their bottles of product for as in don’t blow dry your hair in the shower .. do not eat tide pods they are dangerous yes yes these are the people
I am hearing impaired, but your channel is one of the only channels that I don't need to refer to the closed captioning...you speak so clearly and are great at putting together the story with consistency in your tones and dialogue. TY John.
I like how well spoken he is, no awkward pauses, never says um, uh, and other such "word whiskers", He must have a great memory to tell these stories in such detail.
I like having the captions on anyways. I used to hate CC but now I turn it on everything I own. Sometimes you don't hear a word said so its nice to read and hear.
He also doesn't have any background music competing with his voice. I imagine that helps as well. Some channels have nfc how to mix sound. He uses a good mic, enough compression so that there aren't huge peaks and valleys and it's well spoken.
Same! idk if I'm hearing impared but I have an issue with processing what is said. I use captions all the time now cuz I can't stand having things so loud, just to hear what people are saying. Never even recognized that I don't need them on MrBallen's videos, ever. He's the best, next to Kendall Rae imo. Two different personalities. I love curling up and listening to them.
Err... the video says she ended up in the water the first time, yes; but the second time around she ended up in a park, NOT in water. EDIT: On another thread on this video, someone pointed out that she ended up "in a creek bed" in the park. So, my bad.
So my personal story is nothing like Hannah. But I do know that feeling of waking up not knowing where I am or what has happened. I suffer from an unknown neurological condition that makes me have episode of extreme muscle spasms. When I was a teenager during my episodes the pain would become so bad that I would basically mentally pass out, but my body would stay conscious. I would be crying and writhing in pain until I would get to a hospital and they would drug me until I came out of it. It's SUCH a terrible feeling waking up not knowing what has happened. On a few occasions I would enter this state, but then I would wake up in an out of body experience. I could look down and see my body writhing and crying, but I was an observer and could not control anything. Those times still haunt me and give me nightmares. Poor, poor Hannah and her family.
I'm so, SO SORRY for all that hell you've been through. It's gotta be 100 million times harder, being a man, bc ppl are a-holes and say ish like "suck it up" and "man-up about it." It's such cruelty! I hope for your best of health, physically & mentally. I actually just said a prayer for you. (I hope you're not offended.) God bless you -- you've already been thru so much more than anyone should have to go thru.🤗
My girlfriend listens to Mr Ballen and showed me his stories, we go on local road drives and put Mr Ballen on our Bluetooth and just drive and listen to him, now I subscribed and watch him all the time, I've seen other story tellers on TH-cam but Mr Ballen is by far the best! I can't stop watching!
At almost $5 a gallon here in southern California my driving for fun is pretty limited. That's cute you guys do that together...I'm assuming you live somewhere with nice open roads. Anywhoo hope you have a great week.
I accidentally found this channel theough some random browsing on TH-cam. I'm so glad i found it ❤. I like how calm he is and how clearly he speaks. Some people just do too much when they're telling stories. I always stay late watching.
I completely agree, but I think it's also entirely possible that she was having differing levels of disassociation that no one ever knew about because she was being hugely undertreated for her condition. during these 'fugue states' it's likely that she didn't just not remember herself, but actively believed that she was someone else or even multiple different people. people with Dissociative Identity Disorder are often not diagnosed for years or decades until they self report their symptoms to professionals. they actually adopt different personalities, some of which seem close enough to the host's personality, that no one notices when switches happen when and if alters take over the body in day to day life. only when rare and unusual alters come out during times of stress do people begin to notice changes in the host. these 'switches' from the host personality, to an alter personality, to another alter, then back to the host, ect, can go on for minutes, hours or days. the host will often have no memory of the alters or the lost time, but sometimes the alters will know everything about the host and can act as the host if needed to get by in society, which is scary. it seems to me that Hannah had a dangerous alter personality that was attracted to water that may have come out during times of stress, since she was always found in water after long disappearances, and ended up entering the water completely naked as a hurricane hit the island during her final disappearance. she was found swimming in the ocean the first time she was rescued, she was in a creek bed with water in it the second time and she went into the ocean the third and final time. I also believe that Hannah's dangerous alter was in control of her body when the ship spotted her, and as the alter saw the exploratory vessel get closer to her, the alter dunked her head into the water to play dead, hoping that they would leave. when they didn't leave and they pulled Hannah's head out of the water, the alter knew the jig was up and descended back into Hannah's mind and let her take back over the body with no memory of what had occurred. alters can even believe crazy things - for example, alters can believe wholeheartedly that they can breathe underwater, or that they are a ghost, and so on, so they will undertake crazy actions while in control of the hosts body. they can believe that they are a mermaid trapped in a human woman's body - anything. I think she didn't just have 'fugue state' episodes, I think she actually had DID and an alter of hers, possibly a persecutor alter or a non-human alter, that came out during rare times of stress kept taking her into the water which ultimately caused her death. her friends described a 'sing song' odd personality before they left the island to evacuate - that was probably another alter that she had apart from the water alter that killed her. the overly happy sing song alter may have been the alter that always preceded the dangerous water alter. so I definitely agree with you - she was probably walking around with multiple personalities frequently. that would also explain how her alters knew her email password and user name at the Apple store - the alters sometimes know the details of the hosts life, but the host doesn't know about the alters. those just in a general fugue state would be less likely to remember those personal details, but a DID alter would more than likely know her passwords, or be able to find out.
@@scarlett8782 interesting and even more frightening because the alter personality, as you suggest, could, without warning, come forward at any time and take control. The most frightening (and creepy in my opinion) part is that it appears likelt that it was by no means a symbiotic relationship where each had its own personality separate and unaware of the other. Rather, the alter not only was aware of its existence but also of the other allowing it to use her memories and personal information at will and retreat suddenly leaving her clueless.
@@robpierce4712 yeah, I agree. it really seems as though she had at least one alter who was attracted to water who knew as much about her own life as she did, which according to some with DID, is entirely possible. although amnesiac barriers (memory loss barriers) separate these personalities at times, some personalities are actually aware of each other and can somehow communicate while 'sleeping' inside the host, or can 'watch' the life of the host while 'sleeping' inside, so that when they come out, they can behave exactly as the host if needed. some other alters would not have this ability, and would not recall the host and would have a completely separate set of memories and so on. in some cases of DID, the alters exist in this internal world, which to them has substance, and form their own memories within the internal world of the host. I have heard an alter talk about 'living under a tree' inside the inner world of the host while this particular alter was in control of the host body. this alter also spoke about floating at all times, because this alter believes that she is a ghost. this alter apparently tried to commit suicide multiple times when taking over the host body, believing herself to already be dead. it is truly scary.
@@scarlett8782 we really should be thankful this condition is so rare. You mention someone whose alter tried to commit suicide. Of course that is terrible, but what if the individual decided to turn that aggression outward instead of in? A true Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde of sorts. I suppose that is a poor example since in that story, the doctor consciously created his alter but for the sake of discussion, let's ignore that. Imagine this condition were as common as Bipolar disorder or Schizophrenia? Terrifying. One might point towards alcoholics or victims of other substance abuse and compate the blackouts they suffer from as similar but I would have to disagree. Although they may act differently due to the effects of that substance, rarely do they do so and claim they are someone else.
Yea, I don’t like to assume but this is probable. Also, there are drugs (medications) that can have these side affects. It would have been interesting to see an in depth medical history.
I think she went into another fugue state and was killed in the storm. The stress of the impending storm might have been what triggered it. I don’t think she would have relocated and never contacted her family again, and her state of mind before she disappeared (hard to get through to and a sing-song attitude) seems indicative of a fugue state.
You just summed up exactly what I was thinking! Plus I don’t think it’s that easy to just take off and start over. You’d have no money, no job, no place to live, etc. I think she died in the storm as well. It’s a sad case
She could have gone into that state again from stress of the impending storm and either took off walking down the deserted beach and gotten in the water and swam out. I agree she died during the storm. Her situation seemed to come on at the beginning g of a life stress like starting a new job, a deadly hurricane, etc.
@Courtney Zevallos @Corrine @Cheryl Hester I totally agree with you. I just want to add that in that state, she wouldn´t have been aware that a dangerous storm is inbound. Everything happened seemingly as at the first two times with the difference that on the first two times nobody/nothing was threatening her life.
I like the way the narrator highlights each of the story's relevant waypoints so that we may gradually build the fullest picture of unfolding events. Thank you. I am becoming hooked so I hope Mr Ballen can keep it up.
I stumbled onto Mrballen during the worst days of the pandemic. My mother was going through the worst of her liver disease which led to her leaving this Earth May 21st 2022. I remember watching videos and stories of Mr balling with her and I can honestly say that it helped past time it helped me to understand that there are worse things in life that can happen and it also helped my mother through her to transition knowing that she is going to be okay and that she was going to a better place. Thank you for the content mrballen you are truly a miraculous person
I don't know if you will even read this but I just wanted to tell you that listening to your stories is one of the only things that helps with my depression and really makes a difference in my life and just wanted to thank you💚💚
Alex Eastering -- Me also, I'm 66 and less than 2 months ago I lost my husband of 50 years. He was 68 this is the most difficult time in my life 💔 although we, my husband and I, had our 3 grown children and 1 adult grandson here to help along with hospice. I Love Him. I have great memories to hold onto 🌹🦋🌹 For that I am Very Blessed 💫💞💫
It's amazing how much of a difference it makes, just listening to a friendly voice. I found that out when I worked in volunteer radio, reading the newspapers for the benefit of the blind or illiterate. A lot of our listeners were lonely elderly people who would call in saying how much they liked just hearing our voices. Stay strong! Nothing lasts forever, including the bad times. ❤️❤️
That's awesome! Not the depression part but the part that says this channel has helped you. I have a chronic illness that over the last 8-10 years has left me bedbound mostly, housebound almost entirely, with zero social interaction and little human interaction (no one outside my mother, sister on rare occasions, and my doctors and home health nurses, who I see the most). I was extremely social before all of this. So to call it depression, well the term "situational depression" suits me more. I was glued to bad TH-cam channels, the TV and I can't stay awake for very long related to my illness. So dude I totally feel for you. I finally picked up a new journal and completed it in less than 4 months with a bunch of random stuf, art (doodling) and writing and gluing stuff in. I'm 47 now. I have always kept a journal until about 10 years ago. Art has grown on me so quickly with journal type writing and whatever the hell else I feel with a pencil or paintbrush in my hand. I have to do it all from my bed. I totally get what it's like to find something you find helps when nothing else has for so long. I'm so glad this channel helps you so much. Whatever works is worth sticking to. Take care of yourself my friend. I empathize a great deal! A lot of us do.
@@wynonabieneman7985 Wow. I am so so so very sad for you. This breaks my heart. 11 years ago my mom lost her second husband. He was the absolute love of her life after a terrible 23 year marriage to my abusive father. Her second husband used to just cater to her, dinners by candlelight every night and he would take her car and have it washed and detailed every week. He worshipped her and suddenly he got sick with Guillan-Barre syndrome. It was a long recovery but then it happened again so they were thinking it was ALS which had my mom terrified. It wasn't ALS. He ended up with pancreatitis and it landed him in a coma on a ventilator. 2 weeks later when the only treatment wasn't working my mom had them turn the machines off. She never left the hospital or his bedside for 2 weeks. She lotions his feet and rubbed them all the tune, held his swollen hands, rubbed lotion on his back with a backup when he was repositioned. And she read to him almost non stop. When she wasn't talking to him. Anyway, when I see people say they lost their spouse, especially this recently, I think of my mom. The strongest woman alive who rarely shed a tear. Who had lost her very best lifelong friend only a year earlier. And she was utterly broken. I'm not sure anything other than her husband walking through the door saying she had been in a dissociative fugue state, would have helped her get through it and she needed support in her own way but really just needed time. I can't say she's not still shattered, but a lot of the pieces have been glued back together. My heart goes out to you. I'm terribly sorry you had to go through his illness then the loss of him. I hate thinking of my mom alone in their house he remodeled just for her (assuming what she'd like since she kept saying she jut wanted him....oh and the in ground pool he dug and put in professionally himself), thinking of her clutching his t shirt ND pillow sobbing I'm bed alone at night. I hope you have a lot of support.. I am so so very sorry for your loss. I hope you have been able to get your barings a little bit and I hope you are using the tools such as thus to make the time pass. Married 50 years? That must mean you're pretty incredible. Take care and big hugs from me (in Colorado).
The fact that she kept being drawn to bodies of water during her fugue state makes me think that she walked out into the ocean and drowned in the choppy, pre-hurricane waves. I think it is fascinating that for some reason she kept being drawn to bodies of water.
I was curious of the same thing. Kinda wonder of her vibrational energy was drawn to something in the water. The whole kayak story south and then swimming after kayaking... That is exhausting! Lot of energy and work for what? Maybe she got to actually where she always sub-consciously planned?
most likely what happened i live in Florida I was totally conscious and went to the beach before a hurricane because its Florida most people do but I was one of the only few swimming and being totally aware and careful I still almost got taken out to sea shit gets crazy
Hannah gets diagnosed with dissociative fugue and everyone around her is like "yeah i think she'll be alright living by herself on an island"...thats just incompetence
That was my first thought was she forgets herself and goes missing remembers nothing of who she is. Her answer for that is lets move to a secluded island by herself where she knows no one that sounds crazy like she ultimately wanted to completely dissappear
Yeah. I rolled my eyes real hard. She needed constant care and instead went about her days like nothing ever happened. Sounds like another darwin award to me.
Except for during her supposed first episode of dissociative fugue state she remembered not only her name but her email address and password. So in short it wasn't a fugue state.
I think her condition is very much triggered by stress. And with that last disappearance; the hurricane coming.. that’s a stressful event. But I’m feeling if she has not been found at this point… she must be in water somewhere. As that seems to be a common theme. This is extremely heartbreaking and sad. In no way do I believe this was all staged
I find it hard to believe that she would build a new life for herself on that island then purposely disappear knowing she has family and friends that love her and would miss her. Hannah probably went into the ocean and sadly just wasn’t rescued this time around. I couldn’t imagine living with that disorder. Poor Hannah!
Also the fact that with name, phone, and address change combined with cutting everyone off she would have much more easily and efficiently pulled it off. No search parties, no face on tv, no fake identity, nothing illegal, no losing all her belongings/money(big withdrawal of cash would have been noteworthy).
@@stephenuhe9229 Considering she hasn’t shown up after all this time it is highly likely she is no longer alive. The only other thing that seems possible is she purposely disappeared but that seems extremely unlikely, but possible.
She was my middle school Spanish teacher in NYC. She really was the most positive person I’ve ever met. She was always sing songy! So sad. Praying for her and her family.
@@heightz64 Are we supposed to just take your word for it? And you can say that what you said was a fact without proof and say that people calling you out are “miserable” Yeah, no. You’re using this terrible thing that happened to a person to fish for likes.. gross..
I have this issue and it is always triggered as a trauma reaction or what your mind thinks is a trauma. It is weird to miss big blocks of time. I have missed hours, days, and weeks just gone with no remembrance of anything. Once we figured out what was going on, I no longer go anywhere by myself. And as with most people they think I am faking it and can't believe it is true. People can't understand how you can hold basic conversations with them and you not remember a single thing or even that you talked with them. It is almost like you have a second personality but it is only your mind shutting down to only basic functions. I think of it as a windows based computer. It runs good for a while, but then it blue screens and restarts in safe mode. It runs only with basic settings and not any of the extras that had been installed. Then it is diagnosed and fixed you restart it back in regular operating mode. It is ultimately a protection mechanism for your mind. People just react to trauma differently.
People often want to ignore illnesses or conditions that seem "invisible" (meaning you look and sound like you always did). I have a different invisible illness, and it always hurts when someone, especially a friend, dismisses that and says or acts like I'm just making it up. So I understand, Joseph, and sympathize.
Dissociative fugue states usually associated with persons diagnosed with dissociative identity disorder (DID). This used to be called multiple personality disorder several decades ago. It is a condition that develops in response to a person experiencing significant trauma (such as wartime experiences, natural disaster or abuse/assault). It would be interesting to learn if she had undergone some type of significant trauma prior to her first disappearance, and/or had any prior history of mental health therapy.
I was thinking the same thing. If she was abducted when running and then released when she broke down and started acting "funny" perhaps that could account for it.
@@alundraandseptimus hmm that’s a good theory but imo someone going into a trance after being kidnapped would more or less be in the benefit of said kidnapper because the person wouldn’t be nearly as conscious and aware as a normal individual. Now however I could see her possibly being kidnapped and then during the incident it caused significant trauma which caused her to go into a dissociative state and the kidnapper was a bit spooked by this and let her go. Idk good theory tho
@@krisfrazier8159 I was thinking her abductor did their intentions, and probably left her for dead or she escaped... It would be that moment she broke from reality and the episodes started... Or yeah it started during the trauma and so they let her go because it freaked them out or they thought they wouldn't get caught due to hiding identity.
@@DezerayHope well, it isn’t specific to that age range actually. Here’s what the DSM-5 (the ultimate authority on mental disorders) says on the development of DID: “Dissociative identity disorder is associated with overwhelming experiences, traumatic events, and/or abuse occurring in childhood. The full disorder may first manifest at al most any age (from earliest childhood to late life). Dissociation in children may generate problems with memory, concentration, attachment, and traumatic play. Nevertheless, children usually do not present with identity changes; instead they present primarily with over lap and interference among mental states (Criterion A phenomena), with symptoms related to discontinuities of experience. Sudden changes in identity during adolescence may appear to be just adolescent turmoil or the early stages of another mental disorder. Older individuals may present to treatment with what appear to be late-life mood disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, paranoia, psychotic mood disorders, or even cognitive disorders due to dissociative amnesia. In some cases, disruptive affects and memories may increasingly intrude into awareness with advancing age.”
I always forget to look for the secret because I listen to the stories in a podcast format and clean my house or cook meanwhile I really enjoy this format and every video!
The most obvious possibility is that she had a dissociative disorder caused by a trauma and the trigger is anniversary based. Every time she went missing it was September. She always returned to water and nature, clearly a place of safety and comfort. It was nearly 5 years both times. Note that returning to water during a hurricane would have killed her. Psychological dissociation of this magnitude is almost always attributed to a buried and compartmentalized trauma.
I'm a combat veteran who lives with extreme PTSD. The trigger and anniversary theory is solid and went through my mind a bit. Anniversaries of trauma are extremely powerful and thank you for posting.
I have a degree in Applied Psychology and you nailed this observation. Crazy this is, if your conclusion is correct, that means she never shared what happened to her with family or friends. During this tests, they ask about past injuries and traumas. Ex: if she was sexually assaulted or fell or hit her head and never told anyone.
Mr Ballen, have you ever considered doing a storytelling training course? I'm sure you'd get some takers. I personally find your style extremely compelling.
When my grandmother was younger (in her forties) she went on a business trip with her husband to Japan. While he was at a meeting and she was in her hotel room she suddenly had no idea who she was, why she was in a hotel, nothing. She said afterwards that during the fugue she was opening the hotel drawers and looking at the clothes not even knowing they were her own. She could have been a spy for all she knew lol! She didn’t know if she had always lived in Japan or anything about her life. BUT she had a memory of a distinct pattern of fabric in a drawer (not in the hotel.) Luckily she didn’t leave the room - she just sat terrified on the bed for hours until her husband got back to the hotel. She was terrified when he opened the hotel room door, but he calmly called a doctor who diagnosed a fugue episode. She came right a few days later. When they got back home and returned from the trip to Japan, she found the fabric she had remembered in her drawer in her sewing room. It was the only fugue episode she ever had in her long life and she died aged 88 many years later.
My dad and I have both experienced this! His was for a few hours and he ended up at the hospital because he was very confused and annoyed. Mine was for maybe 2 minutes. I forgot everything, who I was, what road I was on, but not how to drive. I am so thankful it didn’t last!
Thank you for sharing your/her story. That could be the reason some people are missing, just never came out of it & went on living a life wherever they ended up.
I lived on St Thomas at the same time as Hannah Upp. I believe when she’s went into the water a Sapphire Beach, she perished when Hurricane Maria came through. So sad. Islanders are still looking out for her and maybe one day her family can get some closure.
My friend Michael stuffered severe amnesia and other mental health problems. There were at least 2 times I can think of where he went missing for extended periods of time and being found far from where he was last seen with no recollection of who he was/how he got there. He ultimately ended up taking his own life just this past year. It's crazy because we grew up together and he was so popular, talented, always had a girl around, the center of attention almost everywhere, just a genuinely good man. It's so sad he passed away at the young age of 30. RIP Michael and my prayers go out to Hannah Upp as well. My gut tells me she was in a fugue state the last time she went missing, but I can't know for sure. I just hope she's okay, or at peace in heaven 😢
It’s so sad that her fugue state started during that storm; out of all places to be, all lands to be, being in an island where a hurricane was going to be imminent, I wish she had a partner or someone that could have been there through this. I’m so sorry for her family and close friends.
They wouldn’t have been able to stop her. Her roommate is here in comments saying that she was the last person to see and speak with Hannah. She said Hannah told her she was going to Sapphire to check it out before she went to her classroom to get things sorted so the kids had somewhere to go, bc they were hit by hurricane Irma right before this and Maria was the hurricane coming in. She said Hannah seemed perfectly fine and they were all busy and distracted by the two storms. It’s not anyone else’s fault. The beach was basically destroyed with debris in the water and all over the beach. Evidently, she disappeared from Sapphire beach unless she took the last ferry out. No one reported seeing her on the ferry but it’s a remote possibility. A skeleton that was too decomposed to identify did wash up on a nearby island beach but apparently nothing was done to properly identify it. It very well could have been Hannah’s remains.
It is possible that in each case, her amnesia was triggered by high anxiety, which is not unusual for people with psychological disorders. A hurricane bearing down on your home could certainly act as such a trigger.
More likely to be military grade bad frequencies and mind control triggers. Research microwave frequency and military hardware, research atmospheric energy to comprehend true electricity production, tesla towers (pylons and cell towers, 5g high frequency transmitters and signal boosting technology), combine this with the poison in all the drinking water and food and the fact that we All have been indoctrinated into a lie and false reality that had hiding the truth, the True Earth and who, where, and when we All now are. Sounds abstract I know, but seek to comprehend the sound signals in the power line resonance and the frequency of the pulsed transmissions that we are All being harmed by 24/7.
Before ge explained what what happening to her medically i instantly thought she was disassociating, perhaps brought on by something that happened on the first run....maybe rape ?? Just a hunch, and again as she found herself in more stressful situations it happened. I highly doubt she would leave those children willingly. By all accounts she seemed to love them and her job. I think she went into water at the wrong time, as hurricane was approaching. I've been through several, one at sea, in a large boat for 12 hours and one on am island, but the former was the most terrifying experience of my life. Unlikely she would survive that.
Hannah was in my my Spanish class in college. She was one of the sweetest people I've ever met, was funny and passionate about the crazy assignments we were given, and loved Bryn Mawr with all her heart. Our professor used to call her "Senorita 'oop'". She didn't have a manipulative bone in her body and she wouldn't have hurt her mother like that. If she's gone, it's because she really is. It's a punch in the gut not knowing where she is. Wherever you are, Hannah, I hope you're at peace.
I'm so sorry you lost your friend. It's completely Ludacris to think she would hurt everyone doing that again when she already felt so guilty. She was enjoying her fresh start I'm sure. I did make a comment about what I thought it could be if you sort by new you should see it. I hope one day she is found and she's okay and can get a diagnosis and some solid treatment.
Oh and I agree with the observation that just before each amnesia episode came on, that all where times of great stress, which is a massive trigger for these types of disorders
Do you know much about this type of episode? Curious. I have been having memory lapses and physical symptoms to go along with them. I’m so worried about what it is
@@stephanieann622 you should see if you can get in contact with a psychiatrist or something. They focus on how your brain is actually working and how to help it. Therapists are good too for talking about the feeling or stress of it and how to handle it with less stress. And if stress is a possible trigger, in my opinion it would be great. My situation is different, i have times where i basically enter a “dream” while awake. But it’s rare, just when I’m super stressed, and only lasts a few minutes. The best thing to do with any concerns about your mental health is to get help as early as possible so it doesn’t progress Hope that helps :) do what you think is best tho, im just some guy on the internet 😅
It seems strange that her family didn't insist Hannah live at home for her protection after the second disappearance. I would be stuck to my daughter like glue if that happened to her.
@@b0ne91 - Gods, that adds a whole other layer. Now I feel even worse for her... but am starting to understand why her body was literally trying to get her away from everything.
Hannah staging the third reported incident seems far-fetched. I don't buy it at all. No. Unfortunately, she probably entered the state she was in during the prior incidents and was lost at sea. I imagine that during her lifetime Hannah experienced other, briefer, incidents that weren't reported. What a sad strange story about a person who appeared to be a wonderful human.
I'm with you on this one. Maybe it had sonething yo do with stress. The last time a hurricane was barreling down on the island and it sent her into that state. I am sure that was really stressful.
I agree. She definitely had more incidences mentioned here, just that the three mentioned were major and reported. However, the last one I believe she had that state, and went into the water and drowned
My mom told me about this one time where she got into her car to go to work and ended up at the beach 75 miles from home and she had no recollection how she ended up there. When she told me that, it freaked me the f out. That's so scary. The fact you can't trust your own frickin' brain is really scary....
I think Hannah might have passed away in the hurricane. Remember, with the first instance of fugue, she was found floating in the water, almost drowned. The second time, she "woke up" in a creek. For whatever reason, she seems to be drawn to water in these fugue states. I think she experienced fugue again in the hurricane and went into the ocean, drowning in the rough water.
I think you have a great point,I think she went in to the water maybe to swim away but to not have any fear is so odd,I hope she is found and if not then Jesus takes the wheel🙏🇬🇧
My guess is, she went into the waters, that surrounds the Virgin Islands. Since a hurricane was coming, fish of all shapes and sizes would come closer to the Shoreline to feed, before the hurricane came in and had to go to deeper water. Unfortunately, I'm guessing sharks found her floating around. Rest in peace Hannah
Mr. Ballen is a former Navy Seal and probably the most patient kindess Creator on Y.T. proof that the toughest men are also the most humble and polite..💪🏼😉
Right lol here he is describing these strange, dark and mysterious stories with empathy, compassion and humbleness. All the while he probably knows how to whoop a man in 1,000 different ways 🤣
Seals are not world-class. They crashed a helicopter just landing next to Bin Laden's house. They left one of their guys behind in Afghanistan when they ran away from a fight. They lost another helicopter in that fight with untrained farmers. American military suck. They just lost a war to the Taliban who are untrained farmers and peasants in old pick-up trucks and despite all the tech in the world they lost. The lost in Vietnam. They have never won a war without allies helping them.
@Chronic Mind - I'm not "jealous" of people that invade countries for natural resources and gang rape children while they are there like the U.S. military do. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mahmudiyah_rape_and_killings
@Chronic Mind - Sounds to me like repeating the pledge at school every day worked in brainwashing you into believing that killing a million Iraqi children is called liberation. Repeat after me "we're spreading democracy." Then you let the locals put their dead in a mass grave before securing the oilfields.
"Did anyone just find this channel one day and never stopped watching?" Yes. That's how I find every single youtuber that I watch. Yep, that's the algorithm lmao.
My theory, I think that she was extremely lucky to survive the first two times she had an episode. The first time there were multiple ways she could’ve died, not limited to drowning. Same thing the second time, she could have easily drowned in the creek. I think that the third time she entered this state her luck ran out and unfortunately this time her episode happened to coincide with a hurricane. I think nature took her.
Unfortunately I think you're right. She was incredibly lucky before, esp the first time... I can't imagine how no one tried to kidnap or take advantage of her during those 20 days... and she just reappeared like nothing has happened
Hannah Upp (Ms. Upp) was my Spanish teacher in Thurgood Marshall around 2007 (7th grade. I believe she disappeared before the beginning of 8th grade). I remember her disappearing and there being posters. She never gave off any indicators of mental health issues. She was cool and upbeat. I remember us taking a field trip at Saint Nicholas Park (close to TMA) and we were getting lite (harlem dance) and she did some typical offbeat white girl dance when it was her turn to dance lol I dont know why I thought about her for some random reason. Which is how I got here. Crazy she is still missing. She was really cool with the kids. Aside from some of the azzholes being its harlem and not a good area with kids with not so fortunate backgrounds. She taught me "Puerdo ir al bano" and ill never forget that. She taught proper Spaniard Spanish that sometimes confused the Latinos in our class lol. I'll never know what happened to Ms. Upp
Me too. I was thinking after the first time, surely her family would do something to ensure there was constant contact, then after the second time, she needs a GPS tracker of some sort. Every time she went missing, she ended up near water. Why would you let her move somewhere surrounded by water? Then, why would you let her stay on an island during a category 5 hurricane? I live about 30 miles inland from the gulf of Mexico and have endured 2 category 3s. I lived in the woods during those, and couldn't imagine enduring unobstructed category 5 wind
Thank you Mr Ballen. This is a true mystery to me. I have absolutely no idea of what could have happened in her life, but hope she’s fine and happy somewhere in the world.
The strange dark and mysterious delivered in story format, put its hand on my face and finger up to my lips shushing me. Looked deep and my eyes. And we both nod in understanding. This is a once in a lifetime love.
After finding this channel two days ago.. I’ve been binge watching- I’ve discovered I enjoy this so much because he tells the stories like you sitting with a good friend and he knows the facts about the story. He says it so naturally - never sounds like he’s reading it or unfamiliar with it just reading articles about it. HES AWESOME AT THIS!!
Amazingly enough I actually have this condition. Fortunately thanks to a wonderful man called professor Kopelman who was a memory specialist in the UK I was diagnosed. I appeared on several TV shows in the UK and also Dateline in the USA because of how rare this condition is. To help people understand better when you are in fugue state you recall nothing of your normal life and when you are in normal state you recall nothing of your fugue state. It is a frightening condition which fortunately I have learnt to cope and live with. Take care and God bless to everyone and stay safe 😃
I don't have this condition but I have experienced a fugue state. I'm missing a chunk of time in my memory; it might be two weeks, or it might be as long as a month. I honestly don't know how much time is missing. All I remember is a 3-second episode of conversation during that time, like when you remember a piece of a dream but the rest of the dream eludes you. This fugue state occurred during an extremely traumatic period in my life when I was 18, and I think for some people (not all), a fugue state is the mind trying to protect itself from reality.
I can’t stop watching your Channel , it’s amazing and great stories . I got addicted to your uploads and I found your channel recently . That’s why there alot of available videos for me to watch 😂😎♥️ thanks for sharing these cases !
I immediately had a feeling it was a dissociative disorder and was so confused why they only did neurological imaging. If she safely weathered the storm but she's still missing, this could be the episode that lasts for years.
They did brain imaging because brain injuries and even tumors can also cause amnesia. Even if they initially thought it was a dissociative disorder they would have had to check her brain. The treatment for a brain injury or tumor is completely different. Psychological tests aren't completely foolproof, and besides, even if they were 100% sure it was dissociative disorder, they couldn't know the dissociative disorder wasn't caused by a brain injury or tumor. Brain problems can cause a host psychological conditions that are essentially the same as psychological ones.
DID isn't dissociative fugue though. alters can cause memory loss for the rest of the system, but just because you suffer memory loss doesn't automatically mean you've also got DID, as the latter sort of requires for you to experience early childhood trauma(s) to form. it's the infant's brain trying to protect itself by giving you multiple personalities that then cope with what h4rm you experienced. usually you develop at least one protector alter and possibly one or more trauma holders (mine is mute, so the rest of my system can't access her memories; works as further protection, i guess.) thankfully i don't have any alters who cause the rest of us memory loss while they're fronting, but i consider myself extremely lucky on that part, as memory loss seems common among DID systems. but again, you can also experience dissociative fugue without dissociative identity disorder.
I think she drowned in the ocean. During her previous disappearances she demonstrated a dangerous attraction to water. She almost drowned the first time.
That was my first thought too. I have very bad manic episodes and for some reason whenever I’m going through one I get this overpowering strong urge to be in water, like it’s the only thing that will make me feel better. My husband and I own a shade tree nursery and one time he found me swimming in our irrigation ponds lol.
Im with you, I think that combined with her clothes and car being found by the beech. She was prolly in a state of stress which I think is possibly a trigger for a fuge states.
@@Agent_Lokii that makes sense!! She was stressed about starting school the first time, and then the next time may have been due to work, then the hurricane the last time.
Anyone else sometimes have to go research the events MrBallen tells in his stories?! He tells them in such a way that you're hooked! Randomly found his channel and have been coming back every evening for days 🤣🙌
Nikita Jade He has a terrific presentation. Clear, easy to follow. I stumbled on to him too, and now, I am hooked. The theory about her just disappearing the last time to start a new life all over again doesn't wash for me, because she would be smart enough to suspect, or know, that she would be going through all of this again. You can almost be certain that whatever you watch of his will be interesting.
I know a lady that has a split personality and never remembers what she's done as the other personality. Didn't believe us when it was noticed. She put herself in a home later on. She was worried about the other personality taking over. And not being in control. It was very sad.
The most terrifying part of DID is people telling you that you said and did things you didn't do (it wasn't you, it was an alter). I almost got fired at work, was very confused why, they said I gave out account info. I was very careful about that, so I asked to have my call listened to by my supervisor with me listening. Terrifying to hear your own voice say things you would never say. I even supported the opposite political candidate in the call!
I love how you do your ads bro! You don't ruin the story with tons of them and you put them in spots that doesnt ruin the momentum of the video. Hats off to you for not being greedy!
@@brendaanliker4254 a channel called CB Media did a video explaining what variables the YT algorithm uses to calculate earnings. however, he was vague about ads. so i asked if the length of ads viewers watched during a video effected his earnings. he replied, and said yes. he had failed to explain that ads viewed in their entirety during a video increased his earnings. the more the number of views, subscriptions, likes, comments, and shares per video also increased his earnings through his channel.🙃
Thank you for telling these stories bud. My daughter and I both listen often. Storytelling is a sacred ancient gift. This one is unsettling. I hope she is alive somewhere and reconnects with her loved ones again. I had a serious alcohol problem. At times I would have no idea what happened or how I got where I was. It’s scary. I at least knew what was causing it and how to fix it. Be careful out there. ✌️
I dont think she could survive something that she hasn't done on auto pilot before, I think thats why she was able to survive those other times. But the hurricane wouldn't have been something familiar with a daily pattern.
I agree. I wonder with all the technology that's out now could or have they try/tried some kind of facial recognition program to see where in the world she might be. Just to make sure she's safe
I went to college with Hannah. The reports that she was a wonderful, caring person are understatements. She was genuinely one of the sweetest, most selfless people I've ever met. Anyone who suggests that she faked her disappearance obviously didn't know her at all. It's not that she might not have wanted to start over, but there is no way she could ever intentionally do something that would hurt her family and friends so badly. I know people say it in so many cases, but Hannah was someone who wouldn't even think of saying something to hurt someone else, let alone putting the people she loved through the pain her final disappearance caused. There's no way she made a conscious choice to go missing again.
The only way, except for a miracle from God, that she didn't drown is she saw the people on boat saw her so she plops her face down in water. A person who is life of the party will be dearly loved by people she lives with. Doesn't seem to be the case
I’m a 38 year old man from Northern Ireland and I am totally hooked to these stories…I was never a TH-cam viewer for videos and mainly used the music app, mainly watching shorts and then stumbled upon MR_B 😂 it’s taken up a couple hours of my day now and just like a comment from the janitor about the kid,Mr ballen is the shit!! It's really odd how she always wakes up in or beside water. This is such a sad story. I unfortunately believe she drowned. I really dont believe she wanted to just start a new life. That's the whole reason she moved the virgin islands

Anyone else notice how so many missing persons are described as 'Friendly to everyone, the life of the party, ect.' Who else here would be described as 'He existed' or 'She existed'? Show of hands.
Ok after the second time she should of had a guardian with her at all times or had some tracker on a bracelet or something on her at all times. Her parents should of done more than just "hope it doesn't happen again"
Maybe? But like, she was mentally capable, and an adult, so her parents can't do that kind of stuff UNLESS they are her legal guardians. Mayve they brought the idea up and she didn't wanted to do it, we don't really know.
Yeah, I was thinking if this happened to me I would buy a tracker of some sort to wear. Maybe even just a fit bit. They've been used to solve cases using the GPS tracking. I would have to do something knowing that I could lose myself at any moment without warning. Scary to think that can even happen.
Yeah I was thinking the exact same thing. Like it happening once, ok weird? But twice? OK, u need some GPS watch and guardian until we figure this out. Nope, I’m gonna move 1,000’s of miles away, to remote islands in the Atlantic and hope it doesn’t happen again. Duhhh.
Says someone who has never had roommates, or not for any length of time. Unless all 4 worked or attended school at the same place and/or often socialized together, its abosultely believable they didnt notice she wasnt around for days at a time. 4 people with different schedules, circles of friends etc.. Even if they noticed she was gone, theyre all adults and not obligated to inform housemates when they'll be going out of town, staying overnight with a friend or anything like that.
I suffer from untreatable epilepsy with generalised seizures a few times a month, and have had post-ictal fugue many times. The longest lasted for 5 days, I just woke up in bed with no idea what I have been doing for all of those days. The only things I could piece together were from spending on my bank card. I had gone shopping, used multiple taxis, gone to the pub twice and have no memory at all of any of it, like my body had been on autopilot but functioning well enough to not cause alarm to people I must have met along the way. My flat was spotless, all the dishes and washing were done, and I had full cupboards and a fridge of food that I had bought. It was amazing but totally scary at the same time.
A couple of things, she went missing between the 2 cat 5 hurricanes that impacted the Virgin islands. Hurricane Irma had already hit on 9/6, the island was already distroyed when she went missing. At that time it was damn near impossible to get off of the island. The second storm, hurricane Maria, the same one you're talking about, a cat 5 hit on 9/20. There were lots of local alleged sittings but nothing panned out. Personally I'm pretty certain she drowned, I am also in the virgin islands as well by the way.
I currently live on St Croix usvi and have been for a long while. I lived through both CAT5 hurricanes and there were a lot of people that left before Irma but after Irma it was almost impoedible until the mercy ship came to take people to mainland USA. There was a lot of people who left on that ship and were never heard from again. Maria hit on Sept 20th, our island had no power for 3 months so with all the confusion before Irma, before Maria and lack of power, running water etc. I think she might have left on the mercy ship. I know several people we thought we missing who turned out to have left on that ship. So, check those records.
This dissociative fugue totally explains the case where the hiker went missing, and then he showed up at his father's door years later. He said he woke up in a field about 40 miles away or something. And inside his backpack he had remnants or souviners of places he had been to all over the country. He was even a participant at the Chicago marathon. He never found out what happened to him but he told a reporter one time that he felt like he had been running alot.
There are a lot of cases like this. And they are numerous throughout history. Lovecraft wrote some curious stories about cosmic entities hijacking people's consciousness. Cordycep fungus overtake ants brains in the jungle and make them climb to the perfect spot for they're propagation. Maybe our brain is a computer that is ripe for hacking.
@@Shastavalleyoutdoorsman I've heard it called soul- scalping. She's either found or missing only in the month of September in different years...sept 2008, sept 2013, sept 2017..September is triggering something in her.
Yeah, I'm a September babe too: but aside from that, you make a very valid point, chel Bir! Has some emotional trauma happened to her in the past, during the September month which might be reactivating these disappearances? If her family and/or the police noticed that enigma perhaps they might have thought of of monitoring her closely during that month of each year. I wonder if other sufferers of the disassociate condition that she suffers go missing at some same particular month too. Very puzzling case.
He said the roommates were not close, did not talk, and it was very common for them to not see each other for days, and when you live away from your loved ones, it’s very common to talk to them less than every day or even every few days.
One of her roommates is in the comments... when she went missing a hurricane was bearing down for the second time it was very hectic. Phones were down and people were leaving on mercy flights and ships.
Like he explained, they had only become room mates and had not yet formed a close relationship with her. This is very normal. It takes about four months or more to become familiar and start noting habits and sticking your nose in someone's business. I bet the only reason they even worried about her whereabouts was because of the hurricane.
She needs GPS watch an I.d. with a note written at the back "if lost or confused, activate gps watch" Or a tattoo on her arm stating her name and other info.
@@bumboclat sounds reasonable, but it isn't. the technology is too new and there are legal issues about individual human rights, so even if someone wants to be chipped, there's no one to do it currently. we can chip a pet, but we can't chip a person with dementia or DID. my husband has DID; the last I saw of him was September. it becomes a living hell.
Some years ago, my uncle disappeared. All of his stuff was at home. Wallet, keys etc but he was nowhere to be seen. About a week later he was found quite some distance away, 100 miles maybe, walking along side the motorway. He was wearing a shirt and trousers (torn at the bottom) and he had no socks or shoes on. He had no idea where he was or how he had gotten there. He would have been in his late 50's at the time. To this day, he still doesn't remember and there have been no further episodes.
I had a friend who went missing for three days. I only found out from a mutual friend of ours because we dont talk much anymore but apparently, he was walking home from school and everything just went blank. He says all he remembers after exiting campus was that he was in this mall THREE CITIES AWAY 3 days later with no phone, no wallet, not even his school bag was with him. Luckily, this stranger helped him get back home. When I talked to him about it, he says he genuinely cannot remember anything no matter how hard he tried. He was so bummed because his bag had his flashdrive on it with all his thesis works and what not.
Yea because in the days leading up to the disappearance, she was in a trance. That's a dead giveaway to me that she had another one of her episodes. I also think it's irresponsible of her family and loved ones to go live somewhere far away knowing what disorder she had and what she was capable of. So all these strangers around her that knew nothing of her prior life couldn't help her as they didn't know the full story. Otherwise those people could have kept a close eye on her and made sure she didn't go missing again, because it was inevitable that one day she was going to go and ultimately never make it back. I just feel proper precautions should have been taken to prevent this. Either way, I don't believe at all she disappeared on purpose.
I think her family or friends, should have made her wear some kind of GPS device, to keep track of her at least. If it ever happened again, which it did. I also agree that she didn't disappear on purpose.
When I was young my family had a a tradition of story telling. Uncle Charlie could keep young ones entertained for hours. I miss him . Mr. B. has that natural story telling ability and he does not need a camp fire or fire place .

Thank you for sharing, Lindsey. We're sorry for your loss.
Thanks so much for sharing. That wasn't easy to do, but very appreciated.
Thank you for sharing that, tragic story.
💔 thank you for opening up about it. Sorry for the loss of your friend
Thank you for your confession

My sentiments exactly! Anything happens & everybody jumps on the band wagon!
Actually though, how the fuck do you not notice that she had been missing for 4 days
Ya honestly that does sound ridiculous. But this is what people are saying in these articles... definitely sounds weird tho

My thoughts exactly

I am also hearing impaired and can understand Mr
Ballens clear and captivating speech
Same! idk if I'm hearing impared but I have an issue with processing what is said. I use captions all the time now cuz I can't stand having things so loud, just to hear what people are saying. Never even recognized that I don't need them on MrBallen's videos, ever. He's the best, next to Kendall Rae imo. Two different personalities. I love curling up and listening to them.
For a woman who ended up in the water both times, she probably shouldn't have moved to an island.....
LOL...💦🐳
Word. I was thinking the same. She needed to go to AZ or something.
Err... the video says she ended up in the water the first time, yes; but the second time around she ended up in a park, NOT in water.
EDIT: On another thread on this video, someone pointed out that she ended up "in a creek bed" in the park. So, my bad.
J K...... That was my very first thought!!! Cheers!

Wow. 😮
Poor you😢 that sounds terrifying
I'm so, SO SORRY for all that hell you've been through. It's gotta be 100 million times harder, being a man, bc ppl are a-holes and say ish like "suck it up" and "man-up about it." It's such cruelty! I hope for your best of health, physically & mentally. I actually just said a prayer for you. (I hope you're not offended.) God bless you -- you've already been thru so much more than anyone should have to go thru.🤗

I am convinced that this didn't only happen 3 times. It likely happened many other times but for much shorter periods, hours maybe.
Her situation seemed to come on at the beginning g of a life stress like starting a new job, a deadly hurricane, etc.
i only know what that is from breaking bad!
Perfectly said!
I like the way the narrator highlights each of the story's relevant waypoints so that we may gradually build the fullest picture of unfolding events. Thank you. I am becoming hooked so I hope Mr Ballen can keep it up.

Siren calls.
Some would say it’s Cthulhu calling 👻
most likely what happened i live in Florida I was totally conscious and went to the beach before a hurricane because its Florida most people do but I was one of the only few swimming and being totally aware and careful I still almost got taken out to sea shit gets crazy
Water is known to be a portal for spirits and entities because of the strong energies bodies of water hold.
Hannah gets diagnosed with dissociative fugue and everyone around her is like "yeah i think she'll be alright living by herself on an island"...thats just incompetence
innercity to the Caribbean ! its extremes within memes !
@@G35Jeff still not a chance i'd take. Seems like the risk/reward ratio is a bit high.
Yes read the long comment from her ex room mate above about stress
I find it hard to believe that she would build a new life for herself on that island then purposely disappear knowing she has family and friends that love her and would miss her. Hannah probably went into the ocean and sadly just wasn’t rescued this time around. I couldn’t imagine living with that disorder. Poor Hannah!
I get it, being on an island limits where she could be, and she kept coming to in water.
I believe the same. I think she died in the ocean, It´s very sad
I dont feel she is dead?!
Each time she seemed to be drawn to water, river, creek, then possibly ocean.
AHHHHHHHHHHHH SHES A SHARK
More like she's a siren, and her sisters were calling her home.
Seriously though, the 'water attraction' undertone is very curious.
Great... thank's now i gotta pee!
That's what I was thinking the first time I heard about this case. Very, very weird that every disappearance involved water in some way..

LOVE BALLEN! HOOKED FOR LIFE ❤
I looked this story up and went down the rabbit hole. It's interesting how she kept going to the water.
This is an great analogy; I feel like I understand the whole situation better because of it. Thank you!
I'm not convinced ,sorry
@@kellyfanello6716 I mean this video explains that fugue states can happen and yet you are not convinced that it can happen?
People often want to ignore illnesses or conditions that seem "invisible" (meaning you look and sound like you always did). I have a different invisible illness, and it always hurts when someone, especially a friend, dismisses that and says or acts like I'm just making it up. So I understand, Joseph, and sympathize.
The only people who miss time like that aat a YOUNG age r alcoholics and drug addicts
Hannah: Keeps blacking out and ending up in bodies of water
Also Hannah: Yeah imma move to a small island surrounded by the ocean

Could also be transient global amnesia..
Here’s what the DSM-5 (the ultimate authority on mental disorders) says on the development of DID:
“Dissociative identity disorder is associated with overwhelming experiences, traumatic events, and/or abuse occurring in childhood.

Was gonna say the exact same thing lmao
The most obvious possibility is that she had a dissociative disorder caused by a trauma and the trigger is anniversary based.
Every time she went missing it was September. She always returned to water and nature, clearly a place of safety and comfort. It was nearly 5 years both times. Note that returning to water during a hurricane would have killed her. Psychological dissociation of this magnitude is almost always attributed to a buried and compartmentalized trauma.
Great observation! I wonder if whatever had traumatized her made her feel dirty, and that's why she was drawn to water while in a fugue state.
I wonder if 9/11 is the buried trauma?
I'm a combat veteran who lives with extreme PTSD. The trigger and anniversary theory is solid and went through my mind a bit. Anniversaries of trauma are extremely powerful and thank you for posting.
I have a degree in Applied Psychology and you nailed this observation. Crazy this is, if your conclusion is correct, that means she never shared what happened to her with family or friends. During this tests, they ask about past injuries and traumas. Ex: if she was sexually assaulted or fell or hit her head and never told anyone.
Interesting take. Water certainly may be a key factor here
I hit that liked button like it owed me money, within seconds of starting the video! I always enjoy your stories!

I bet your Nana was drugged and did not know that sounds so crazy.
But WHY does this happen?
Heavy duty

@@weareguardians7384 that’s your “more likely” scenario? Over stress?
Before ge explained what what happening to her medically i instantly thought she was disassociating, perhaps brought on by something that happened on the first run....maybe rape ?? Just a hunch, and again as she found herself in more stressful situations it happened. I highly doubt she would leave those children willingly. By all accounts she seemed to love them and her job. I think she went into water at the wrong time, as hurricane was approaching. I've been through several, one at sea, in a large boat for 12 hours and one on am island, but the former was the most terrifying experience of my life. Unlikely she would survive that.
The Maxster that's a good point. It really fits this case.
My friend got it from concussions in hockey. He went missing in Minnesota and was found in California 3 months later.

I am so sorry for the loss of your friend. Prayers for peace for Hannah 🙏🙏💔
It's called mental illness. She was sick and it wasnt caught in time
I'm so sorry... 😔
A psychic reading seems called for in my opinion.
The best thing to do with any concerns about your mental health is to get help as early as possible so it doesn’t progress
Hope that helps :) do what you think is best tho, im just some guy on the internet 😅
It seems strange that her family didn't insist Hannah live at home for her protection after the second disappearance. I would be stuck to my daughter like glue if that happened to her.

One day there will be a Mr. Ballen story about someone gone missing, and then found days later, stuck binge watching Mr. Ballen videos.
Hahaha. Good one!
She already moved to an island, logic says she definitely didn’t stage the third
I agree! She was found in water the first time and woke up in water the second time… when she has these episodes, she’s drawn to the water.
I'm with you on this one. Maybe it had sonething yo do with stress. The last time a hurricane was barreling down on the island and it sent her into that state. I am sure that was really stressful.
Agree. I dont believe it was staged since they new she had that bad amnesia.

"Did anyone just find this channel one day and never stopped watching?"
Yes.
She went into dangerous water this time. Big fish and heavy currents that drag to the middle of the Caribbean sea.

Upp
long story short, Hannah should never be left without supervision.
YES!!! Exactly what I was thinking. She needs a bodyguard or something
Those category 3s weren't even direct hits where I lived, so it was probably more like a category 2 where I lived, and it still tore a lot of stuff up
Exactly! And that's probably why she wanted to disappear. She probably didn't want to live like that... how sad!
I was saying the same thing
Thank you Mr Ballen. This is a true mystery to me. I have absolutely no idea of what could have happened in her life, but hope she’s fine and happy somewhere in the world.

David, thank you for sharing your story and educating us. God bless !! 😀
I have this too but was unfortunately never diagnosed
I don't have this condition but I have experienced a fugue state. I'm missing a chunk of time in my memory; it might be two weeks, or it might be as long as a month. I honestly don't know how much time is missing. All I remember is a 3-second episode of conversation during that time, like when you remember a piece of a dream but the rest of the dream eludes you. This fugue state occurred during an extremely traumatic period in my life when I was 18, and I think for some people (not all), a fugue state is the mind trying to protect itself from reality.

I immediately had a feeling it was a dissociative disorder and was so confused why they only did neurological imaging. If she safely weathered the storm but she's still missing, this could be the episode that lasts for years.
or she died in the water cause the hurricane.
DID isn't dissociative fugue though. alters can cause memory loss for the rest of the system, but just because you suffer memory loss doesn't automatically mean you've also got DID, as the latter sort of requires for you to experience early childhood trauma(s) to form. it's the infant's brain trying to protect itself by giving you multiple personalities that then cope with what h4rm you experienced. usually you develop at least one protector alter and possibly one or more trauma holders (mine is mute, so the rest of my system can't access her memories; works as further protection, i guess.)
thankfully i don't have any alters who cause the rest of us memory loss while they're fronting, but i consider myself extremely lucky on that part, as memory loss seems common among DID systems. but again, you can also experience dissociative fugue without dissociative identity disorder.
Does anybody know what hurricane it was, like what the name of it was? Thank you in advance
Watch the whole video, they did not just do imaging, they also did psychology workups.
Great observation

Yes and the hurricane took it from there.
@@Agent_Lokii that makes sense!! She was stressed about starting school the first time, and then the next time may have been due to work, then the hurricane the last time.

The most terrifying part of DID is people telling you that you said and did things you didn't do (it wasn't you, it was an alter).
Also I suspect changing identity without state support is next to impossible.
The only way, except for a miracle from God, that she didn't drown is she saw the people on boat saw her so she plops her face down in water.

How is it that everyone knows her so well and loves her so much, but nobody, including her roommates, noticed she was gone for 4 days?

They were new room mates and have not gotten to form a close relationship. Very, very normal.
I actually appreciate that you aren't just finding stories, but wanting your crowd to make their own minds up on the stories you tell. Thank you!
She needs GPS watch an I.d. with a note written at the back "if lost or confused, activate gps watch"
Or a tattoo on her arm stating her name and other info.

Actually that's the only option for people with that disorder. A locating beacon attached to them in a way that they can't simply take it off.
she needs a life alert
@@bumboclat sounds reasonable, but it isn't.
the technology is too new and there are legal issues about individual human rights, so even if someone wants to be chipped, there's no one to do it currently.
we can chip a pet, but we can't chip a person with dementia or DID.
my husband has DID; the last I saw of him was September.
it becomes a living hell.
@@Warlanda so he’s been gone for over 3 months?
That was a “hit the Like button” rollercoaster I was not prepared for.
Made me do it though
I always like his videos before they even starts cause I already know I'm going to like it.
It's fun at least.
And that’s why he’s so awesome. I can’t stop listening!
is that what that was?
His story telling is SO EXCELLENT!! I happened upon this site months ago, actually during Covid. I have not been able to miss an episode since then
Some years ago, my uncle disappeared.
How much people think this channel is addictive?
He's great because he isn't annoying. Too many "hosts" make dumb jokes or talk silly trying to make it about them. He sticks to the story!

I’m addicted
I know right here binding on these videos..
Yikes! 😳
Poor guy. Did he ever get his thesis back? That kind of loss is insult atop injury.
How is he doing now?
Umbra my friend who was in middle school ran from home and after a week he was found god had blessed us
Maybe he was abducted and experimented on. He might regain his memory under hypnosis.
There is a type of amnesia that can cause this to happen. I cant imagine how hard it is to deal with, glad your friend came back.
I don't believe she staged her last disappearance, she was so happy doing her job. I believe she swam away and drowned
I think she had another episode and got in the water, the storm came and she drowned.

*SPOILER*
When I was young my family had a a tradition of story telling. Uncle Charlie could keep young ones entertained for hours. I miss him . Mr. B. has that natural story telling ability and he does not need a camp fire or fire place .
Moral of the story: Running is bad for you.
Yes, the guy that wrote the book "Running" died running.
Milk is bad for you too... My friend died when he was drinking milk... How?

Yes
I don’t run unless I’m getting chased or chasing somebody! 😉
I know. That's why I sit around watching TH-cam videos and becoming increasingly blob-like.
My father had a brain tumor that would put him in a fugue state for moments of 10s of minutes at a time
Turned to seizures and ultimately he passed .
Fugue is so bizarre that it’s near impossible to believe until you see it
Thanks Ballen
Great tell and awareness
I'm sorry for your loss.
I have a malignant meningioma brain tumor that causes it as well in small time frames.
So sorry for your loss 1🙏💔
Sorry about your Dad
@@proudmilitarybrat76 God bless you brat!
