  • Apologies for the jittery video. I wanted my export settings to match the RED footage in the beginning which caused the rest of the video to go to shit (because it was interlaced...haha). I hope this video helps out some people who are considering joining the RED family! More content coming soon, including vlogs, BTS videos, and industry advice videos. Feel free to offer video requests for things you'd like to see or learn about.

      Thanks Isaac! Yeah, the song is from Drive. It's called Tick of the Clock by the Chromatics. It's one of my all time favorite films.

    Telling it like it is! Man, FINALLY! Someone addresses the Alexa mini against the Red Scarlet-W. Arri is MOSTLY name brand - almost ALL name brand that you pay for. It's ridiculous. Make sure you let people know that the pro res is limited to 2k on the Scarlet-W. At least it is on mine.

      Glad to hear someone else saying this! haha
      And yeah, good point, prores is only up to 2k, however it makes sense because I would only ever use prores if I wanted smaller files anyway and 2k just makes the files even smaller and more manageable.

      Fully, totally makes sense. It must also be scale able thing as well as a licensing issue. I believe my buddy's 8k Epic-W records 4k pro res.

      With the latest firmware update (beta) Scarlet-W is now capable of recording ProRes 422 in 4K :)

      Yes indeed ;) I installed it on mine already. I found it funny however that 50fps R3d recording is missing as an option, hmm? So I dropped it down to 4k 60fps and then switched back to 5k and - what do you know! 50fps came back to 5k. It is beta for a reason. Bugs.

    RED with handle and no cable. Vloggers love it. What do Netflix use?

    thank u, just wondering why u didn't buy red batteries also if u have the budget would u buy the red evf? thx in advance

      Hey, I'm not Brendan but i could tell you why I chose not to buy red batteries - price and dimensions. I bought the Anton Bauer cine series a 150 and a 90. Due to their size they are ideal for the camera, a perfect square. Also the price is not off from the red bricks. As for the EVF, you can get an excellent 3rd party EVF for a lot cheaper than the RED EVF if price is an issue. I tried the zacuto gratical eye at cinegear at paramount studios and it blew me away. Super sharp and detailed screen for about 2k. Defitnitely worth the investment on brightly lit days.

    While you were shaking, waving and thumping that camera so much in the air, I was praying that it doesn't do any damage to the lens or the brain!

      If shaking, waving or thumping the camera caused it to break these things wouldn't be used in Hollywood productions. They're built like tanks. These tools are meant to be used, not babied. If you had an expensive car would you leave it in your garage all day never touching it for fear of breaking it, or would you go out and drive it? I don't know about you, but I'd drive the darn thing. Not to mention there's a thing called insurance haha.

      Brendan Grant I had read somewhere that shaking or thumping the camera brain can cause sensor issues. Moreover lenses are delicate things! It was a genial comment, don't take it otherwise!

    • @Brendan-Grant
      @Brendan-Grant  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The only way I can see it causing sensor issues is if you shake it so incredibly hard and fast that somehow you shake the internals loose but that sounds not even humanly possible. Of course you could break it if you drop it or throw it into a wall...or if you touch/scratch the sensor itself while the body cap is removed. However I was just casual lifting and turning the camera so I have no idea why you would see that as destructive.

    Looks like sony a6500 footage. Still looks good.

      yeah it's hard to tell because this is all color graded and only 1080 with youtube compression so it doesn't do the camera justice.

    What geared rings did you add to the lens? They look nice!
