    Great video man. You speak extremely clear and well. Thanks for the info on the scarlet w. Growing my media company as this year continues and the goal is to pick up a red for just that, getting client that won’t hire without one. Looking forward to more videos.

      Thank you so much! There are definitely times where I think I might want to have the extra money to get a better gimbal or a motorized slider/dana dolly, or maybe a set of BMPCC4K cameras instead, but every time we shoot on the RED, I fall in love with that image all over again. It's a really great camera. Good luck with your company!

    Every time I see that shot of Bryan, it makes me think it's from a great travel video, where he goes to small villages in South America to eat amazing foods you've never heard of. Get him busy on that. It's a hit!

    Nice video! I love the quality and the beauty of RED footages. Excited to own one in the near future and hope to make it a run and gun camera!

    • @AppleboxCinema
      @AppleboxCinema  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! My recommendation would be to make sure you've got some kind of support system like an EasyRig to make the RED a run and gun camera, because with the batteries, monitor, handles, etc. it starts to get reeeeally heavy and tiresome to carry around, and then all your footage will be shaky.

    Awesome stuff! We would love to own a Redone day. It would be great if you could do a video about how you approach new clients after what you touched on toward the end of this. Keep it up.

      Thanks! I can definitely do a video on approaching bigger clients. It's something we're still learning, to be honest it's still very tough but I'm happy to share our process!

    Liked the video and subscribed. Would love to view a comparison video between your A7S and Scarlet-W with a good amount of footage. And yes, just placed my order of Godox SL60W. I have an Octabox (120CM). A grid is my next order.

      Thanks! I've got an a7SII vs RED Scarlet-W comparison on my list of videos to shoot, so it'll be coming soon! Thanks for the sub and have fun with the SL60W! Let me know what you think!

      I love this camera. We've made a handful of short films and some commercials with it, and we can rent it out to help pay for it. It's a win-win! Best of luck!

    There is a Scarlet W for $4000 on ebay (with monitor, side handle and 2 Mini mags) and there is a Komodo 6k on ebay (with handle and batteries) for $4000 as well. Which do you suggest I get? I film mostly commercials, promo videos.

  • @creativegreats6924

    Red Komodo vs Scarlet w what can the scarlet w do better ? 4k at 150fps is one

    • @AppleboxCinema
      @AppleboxCinema  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      At this point honestly the Komodo is probably a better deal. It’s cheaper and newer. The Scarlet-W is still great and will be for a long time, but camera tech gets better and new REDs get more affordable every year. If I was buying one today, I’d probably get the Komodo.

    why did you get the red batteries? there are much cheaper and smaller options you can get.

    • @AppleboxCinema
      @AppleboxCinema  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The batteries just came in the package we got. There are definitely cheaper options and if we get to the point where we need more, I won't be getting RED batteries for sure. But so far we've been able to manage just fine with two.

  • @pjsagnia

    Nice video sir. I'm an owner of the Red Scarlet W also (just got mine). I'm very interested in your key light setup, and how you were able to keep the spill off the background...its lit very well. Can you share your lighting setup.

    • @AppleboxCinema
      @AppleboxCinema  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Peter! I was thinking of doing a video on my setup, but I'm moving next week so my new studio setup will be slightly different. But for this studio I'm using the Godox SL60W as my key light, with a softbox and a grid which helps keep the spill off the background. I'm not using a fill light here, but the hair light is one of those cheap clamp lights with a $10 RGB bulb from Target that I can control the color on my phone. That's it, just two lights.

    Would you still buy this particular camera in 2021?

    • @AppleboxCinema
      @AppleboxCinema  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question! Honestly I don't know. The new RED Komodo is pretty great and much less expensive, so I might have gone with that instead. Most RED cameras are relatively future-proof because they can get firmware updates and always shoot a great image, but obviously they'll continue to get smaller and cheaper. Realistically I'd probably get 2 BMPCC 6K Pros and rig them out and still have money leftover for lights.

    Hey Man hows everything ? So you are the Red Camera guy, I have a question, is it worth having a Rec Epic Mysterious X 5k in 2021? I found one with few hours of use well maintained, thanks man 🙏🏻

    • @AppleboxCinema
      @AppleboxCinema  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ha! I don't know if I would call myself the RED camera guy! I think most RED cameras are relatively future-proof because they can get firmware updates and always shoot a great image, but obviously they'll continue to get smaller and cheaper, the Komodo is a great price and produces a great image. But you might get an even better deal if you purchase something like the BMPCC 4K or 6K and a nice rig, because that camera shoots RAW and has a great quality too. But if you want the RED, I think you'll probably be happy with it!

    i'm looking to buy a used red scarlet w 5k, is that a good ideal? Can you tell me where I can get a new one. thank you and keep up the good work

    • @AppleboxCinema
      @AppleboxCinema  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! I'm sure a used RED Scarlet will perform just as well as a new one. I bought mine straight from RED's website and was able to get financing so that I'm just making monthly payments. I'm not sure what the rates are for a used camera, but I've had the RED for well over a year now and it still works like a champ!

    Hey man. How is the editing workflow on an imac for red raw footage using premiere ?

    • @AppleboxCinema
      @AppleboxCinema  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey man, the workflow has been fine so far. The only issue I have is occasionally when I apply LUTs or a heavy amount of Lumetri color effects, Premiere will crash. But that happens on my Sony footage too, so I'm thinking Premiere is the problem! Hope that helps!

    Save yourself the hassle and greed of RED and just get a pocket 6k. Just as good, if not better, and it's a fraction of the cost. Seriously, you could get three for the price of RED's greedy, proprietary BS. Or if you just NEED the form factor, get the Ursa, Still cheaper and BRAW is SO much easier to work with in post. I just can't understand why RED is still in business.

    • @AppleboxCinema
      @AppleboxCinema  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well the Pocket 6K didn’t exist when I bought the RED. In fact the Pocket 4K didn’t either. I’ve used both, they are both great. Definitely don’t think the 6K is as good, definitely not better in my experience. I’ve never had an issue editing RED raw, my computer cuts through the 5K footage like butter and I’ve been able to pay for the RED by renting it out locally, and now I’m making money off it. Never saw much interest in renting my 6K so I eventually sold it and stuck with the RED. It’s been a better investment for me, but I know that’s not everyone’s experience. Glad to see so many great cameras coming out at lower price points!
