Eye Surgery- Cataract with Lens Replacement

  • This 3D medical animation shows the formation of a cataract- the clouding of the eye's lens that leads to decreased vision and its removal by two different processes; phacoemulsification and extracapsular removal. In phacoemulsification a tiny probe is inserted into the eye. The probe emits ultrasound waves that break up the cloudy lens into small fragments, then a suction device removes these fragments. This is the most common form of cataract removal surgery. This procedure usually requires no stitches. In extracapsular removal of the cataract an incision is made in the eye, and the hard center of the lens is removed. At the conclusion of each procedure an artificial lens is insert into the eye. This surgery rocks. Two days later I have excellent near vision and distance is quickly coming in as the healing progresses. I'm blown away by the vibrant colors and light I can now see.

    I had cataract surgery & lens replacement on both eyes, 2 months apart. Both surgeries were normal and routine, but the first lens shoots off rays when looking at car headlights or other bright lights, and is slightly fuzzy but not cloudy. The 2nd lens is perfect; vision is like it was when I was a kid. So I've concluded that I may have a defective implanted first lens, and have a post-op appt. next week, at which time I'll bring up the subject with my eye surgeon.

    Cataract surgery is fairly simple and can take less than 10 minutes. I had mine about a year ago, and was surprised at how quickly it was done. If this is the type of eye surgery your having, you'll be okay:)

    I had this surgery yesterday, but not for cataract, but for glaucoma, same procedure but for a different reason. If I did not have this surgery I would go blind. So it was a no brainer. I will be having the other eye operated on in two weeks, not looking forward to it, but preferable to the other alternative. Word of warning though, if like me you have had laser eye treatment to improve your eyesight in earlier years, it makes this procedure a lot harder and a lot more painful.

      I have Glaucoma also and had worsening cataracts. My surgeries were two weeks apart, and am seeing much better six days after the second surgery. Did have bad headaches after the surgery, which because of the higher pressure due to Glaucoma made them more intense. By the following day and follow up I was feeling much better.

    Messed up my eye with a screwdriver and wasn't wearing eye protection luckily I didn't stab my eye but I did slice it, so I had to get my eye stitched and because of the impact I instantly gave my eye a cataract and messed up my lens badly. I'm currently in recovery with no natural lens but hopefully soon I can get the new lens implanted. If anyone replies and I've had the surgery I'll let you all know how it went.

    @gemquist it has improved greatly. I need the glasses for seeing things 20+ feet away but even then I can still get a general idea of what I'm looking at and see it in detail. An example, when I'm taking notes at school I can see my notebook just fine. But the chalkboard is another story. I can see the writing but it's not clear enough to read. A problem did arise when I was taking notes. Because when I looked up at the board I needed glasses but when I looked at my notebook I didn't. So I got

    I had this performed on me when I was in kindergarten and first grade. Once for each eye. I'm 14 now and my eye doctor tells my mom every visit that my case was such a success that, "they should write a book on me". I don't remember much of it but my friends say they remember a kid with an eyepatch and are surprised to find that it was me. My mom claims that when light hits my eyes at just the right angle the new lenses glisten. I had laser eye surgery on one of them in 2006. That's the last th

  • @FishKepr

    @slazzer145 The actual procedure went very smoothly. For about two days any bright light, esp. fluorescent lights, made my eye go into spasms which was very uncomfortable. That was the only pain at any time. I didn't even feel the anesthesia injection as some reported. The acuity with the implanted lens is not 100%. I can only speculate that the pre-surgical measurements were not accurate. Those are really a best guess anyway. It's still a dramatic improvement over the cataract of course.

    • @annumahil
      @annumahil 7 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      To prevent the brightness of light getting into the eyes, patients are supposed to wear a very dark 🕶️ with the sides also bent to block the entry of any light or dust. Other instructions from the doctor too.

    I should have been more specific. I meant that it was a fairly simple procedure for the patient. I've also had retina surgeries, one of which took about two hours. It can be agitating for a patient who is a awake to lay still that long. I personally get very antsy-and which liquid inside? Do you mean the aqueous? That's the liquid that sits on the anterior part of the eye. Even if that sort of mishap happened, compared to other surgeries, I would consider it to be a lot simpler.

  • @amber4music
    @amber4music 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've had several eye surgeries-all took a couple of hours and I was awake for all of them. They numbed the surface of my eye so that they could go through my eye with a needle and numb the entire area so that I could opt out of any "real" medicine. I am a wimp when it comes to anesthesia:)
