Considering the atrocity the new S class has turned into, the Alpina is even more beautiful. Alpinas have always been in a class by themselves. Green over the saddle interior is classic.
Fun fact - I live close to the Alpina factory and pass by almost every day ... beautiful cars - I guess it's the town with the highest density of Alpina´s.... in the world....... Buchloe in Bavaria. Alpina´s are the cars for car lovers who love BMW but it's just not special enough for them. The gentleman's BMW so to speak.
I think the ideology on the “button-shifters” is because Alpina’s are branded towards a more luxurious commuting car built for comfort, with a crazy fast engine for the occasional fun. In normal day to day driving, one rarely shifts manually. The buttons are there if you really want to shift yourself. But in 99% of the time, there won’t be stuff behind the wheel. And I find it generally looks cleaner. I think they say: If you build a car for the track, it will never be good on the road. You can see that clearly when you compare the M5 with the B5. If you want a BMW for (occasional) track days or you want to be more of a hooligan. Then go buy an M car. If you want to do some comfortable daily autobahn-blaster, commuting you to all your important buisnes-meetings. To do some canyon-carving on your way home. Then you want to buy for a car from the Alpina.
Actually, the buttons hark back to the old days. Alpina founder, Burkard Bovensiepen wasn't a fan of automatic gearboxes at the time, so he wanted customers to be able to select the gear they want to be in. And, et voila, the button-shifters were born. This is before Ferrari came up with flappy paddles in the 640 f1 car - they are credited with the invention.
A green Alpina B7, please. With an also dark green hue of lavalina leather. Because of the craftsmanship and the exclusivity. That was the only thorough mechanical presentation on TH-cam. Everyone else is presenting features. Well done.
B7 over any other large sedan. In Alpina Blue, even though the green is beautiful. With the interior just like this one. They’re so rare and beautiful I’ve always wanted one. I swear the valve stem used to be in the center of the wheels so that the wheels were perfectly uninterrupted but I could be wrong.
You are correct about the valve stem, but they moved away from that after the F01 series B7. From what I can tell it is because they went from a cast wheel to a forged wheel and I assume the forged wheels can't handle that inset valve stem.
Dear MotoMan, I can't stop thinking about this car because I can't stop rewatching this video. As spec'd - this is the BMW of my dreams. My heartfelt thanks to Alpina, and to you MotoMan, for giving me a glimpse of automobile heaven (always within the warranty period - of course).
Damn!! This is very special. No way will pick the Panamera or S class vs this. However, would consider an M760Li, also a special car. I saw this green in real life and it’s exquisite, the traditional Alpina blue is also special.
Definitely that BMW B7, it’s stunning in side and out, the uniqueness and quality is great, I would just change the interior color but keep the stunning green.
I gotta say this is the first time I subbed to an American car reviewer! Your style of presenting is very informative, accurate, and to the point whilst giving your views. Most US based reviewers I find lack backing their opinions with reasoning, they just too many superlatives, or they just try to be funny (and they might be funny to an American audience, but across the pond we have a different sense of humor). Kudo's to you! This version of the 7 series is very appealing, the large kidneys took some time to get used to, but give it so much presence and look quite good in person. If I were in the market, this B7 would definitely be my choice above the S63 AMG or the Panamera. The choice between B7 and the M760Li would be a difficult one though, both are good, one is just a powerhouse in disguise and the other has more bravado.
I’ve literally seen one in Maine at a drug store i geeked out and they owner was so happy I knew what it was I almost cried it was so awesome and beautiful
9:20 These buttons are literally the history of Alpina and automotive industry in general. Back in the days when BMW start putting automatic gearboxes into their cars, Mr Bovensipen (the founder of Alpina) came to the conclusion that cars became boring, so they put these buttons for drives who want to have some control over the automatic gearbox. Do you understand what does it mean? Alpina is literally the inventor of manual shifters in automatic gearbox, manettino or however you want to call it :) It was at the time when Formula 1 still had manual gearbox. I think one ot two years later manettino appeared in a Ferrari F1 bolid. P.S. Yes, for customers who want to keep the paddles they can do that, but this is an option, default Alpina comes with buttons :)
Neither Herr Bovensiepen (father nor son) would care if you chose paddles over buttons for manual control of the transmission. Well, maybe the dad a little as he employed them originally.
A very good review, reminds me of Germany and when I did reviews. He even mentioned V/ MAX. I can't write a lot but I thinking about getting another Alpina. I've also had a 80's 6 series Alpina when I was 20, WOW. I am a X racer who can't let go.
I'd honestly go with this thing. It's the closest thing to the M7 that BMW refuses to make, plain and simple (the M760i xDrive's cool, but the V12s that were and are in large sedans are definitely geared more towards smoothness). The AMG S 63, while I'm incredibly grateful that MB *did* decide to make such a car, just isn't my style, and if I were to have a sudden change of heart about the W223 S-Class, I'd honestly pick the S 580 over an AMG version. The Panamera Turbo's an *incredibly awesome* machine, but...the B7 the way I'd outfit it is much cheaper, and more exclusive. If I bought one, I'd have the exterior in Carbon Black Metallic if they'd let me special-order it that way, and Frozen Bluestone Metallic if they didn't. I'd also keep the performance tires (but as 20"s), and the stunning Alpina Myrtle Wood as in this example, and get the full Merino leather package in Tartufo.
The 3000 RPM torque curve is impressive. Between 2000 and 5000 RPM is just about the perfect range for a car like this to have all that torque on tap and ready to go.
Alpina B 7 is my first choice because the car is much more exclusive than an AMG or Panamera. And of course in classic Alpina green. I think it's one of the best sedans in the world.
I’ll take the Alpina B7 any day, any time, any where....and here’s why: You don’t buy the B7 for its speed, comfort, value or looks! Because there are other Sedans that are faster, more comfortable, better looking and cheaper! You buy the B7 because it’s so freaking rare and so freaking COOOOOOL! You don’t buy a B7 with your mind, you buy a B7 with your heart! Thats it!
We already have a nice BMW 7 series in an M5. Hands down any Alpina B7 from 2016 on. Super premium 5000 pound luxury car, that's quick, quick, quick! (Oh, in White of course).
Alpina B7 based on rarity alone. Tough choice between either the blue or green, would have to see them side by side, but the green is striking. Also like the fact that car can be driven in town in stealth (comfort) mode, unlike the S63, which is loud all the time.
Does the acceleration is far away ( significantly different ) from 750li 2020 530 hp ?? If you will compare them ?! I am going to buy 750li soon ... thanks
B7 in that green color makes a very compelling argument against pretty much anything in its class. That being said the new Panny Turbo S and its e-hybrid variants would be very tough to look past for me. Especially if they’ll arrive in a magnficent Amethyst Purple Metallic
The beauty of Alpina is that it is always priced lower vs M cars)) great! Especially when brabus always wants not less than 1000000000 billions for their cars with splitters mounted above already fitted AMG package and stupid 90000 horsepower 🥱
alpina engines are usually better in terms of quality as they change the pistons crankshafts flywheel etc. u but of course you could get a faulty unit but at this small built units per year i would say that´s pretty rare
B7 All Day with a bag of chips. It’s just cooler. More exclusive. And that green and white combo Wow! I can see myself pulling up to the Boca Beach club valet and watching them drool 🤤
Santa María, Madre de Dios. I'll have the Alpina, thank you very much. It'll be very close to this one, only things I'd change are the Alpina blue & black Alcantara headliner. As always, excellent work, M.

The perfect everyday Alpina is the B5 Touring (Estate or Station Wagon depending on where you live). Same engine as the B7 but with added practicality and Q factor. Don't know if its available in the U.S. as I live in Scotland. B5 Touring in green with tan leather is my candidate for a one car garage. 👌
B7 all day hands down! , Why? I have not driven a car out there that handles like a B7, I used to be a Lexus head, but my first 7 Series BMW, changed all that! its hard for me to drive anything else, BMW spoiled me!!! so I'm patiently waiting for my Alpina to be delivered, BLACK... Tan interior , full options package interior I spared no expense! 160k 21' wheels and added solar wing , wind deflector, splash guards, Zero window tint! I want people to see me when pass by them! xoxoxoxoxoxoxox!
That green is stunning, even on TV. The wheels are the absolute selling point for me, I would gladly take this over an AMG or Porsche Panamera. Why? It’s more exclusive (and not to mention classy and elegant).
Get the Alpina because it’s subtly the most exclusive and cool. For car nuts it’s the way to go and have fun discussions. Porsche probably drives the best but that’s what a 911 is for on the weekends. Although the green is cool I prefer the blue.
Wow did not expect that from Alpina but then again that is a luxury BMW and not a sports car so it makes total sence would really like to test those things out
Non sport turismo panamera vs s65 vs B7, I chose the S65 all day, China blue to be specific... now if we’re talking about sport turismo panamera, then that takes the cake in some PTS blue, maybe gulf blue something crazy, but I love the B7, someone lives near me and has an Alpina Blue b7 and it’s gorgeous
I’m not a big BMW fan, but wow, what a cool car! I would still take the Panamara, and S63 AMG over this, but you make a very compelling case for this very unique Alpina BMW.
To answer your question on what car would you get. Between AMG S63/,Panamera Turbo or B7. I’ll take the B7 for it’s looks and rarity. But actually for that money. I’ll pay 10k€ more and go for the Maybach GLS600. I don’t have canyon roads or an autobahn nearby. I’m not much of a hooligan and toss my car into corners. And I love going on ski trips to the French Alpes. So I’ll take more space and practicality over a quick luxury sedan.
If I had to choose I’d pick the B7 in “Alpina Gruen II Metallic” with Ivory leather and piano black trim over a Porsche Panamera Turbo or the S Class AMG because of its uniqueness and just to be different. I would also choose this only because of the Alpina Wheels!
Among the three four-door cars you nominated, I'd have THAT car, the one behind you. I'm still not sold on the Panamera proposition as anything other than an oversized 911 with undersized capacities (practically speaking Cayenne or Macan are actually better GTs). M-B S Klasse is a great car with loads of tech and that's a valid attraction. But this B7 is special and I've got a soft spot for oddballs. And it seats four comfortably. Having said all that, while I dream of 911s, I have a thing for the Porsche Panamera's British cousin, the newest Bentley Continental GT (with a V8, please). I'd pass on the Alpina B7 for that. But I'd spec that green.
I have a panamera 4s e-hybrid sport turismo now in papaya metallic & considering a change to the b7. The Porsche is amazing. But the tech issues are getting frustrating. Plus the room to take a group to lunch isnt quite there. I love driving it but I am ready for a bit more luxury and a bit less sport. When my wife and I go out I find myself choosing her bmw x7 over my car just because it's more comfortable
Alpina is certainly the BMW that interests me so much and I love the B7 but there is this thing with Mercedes Benz and ///AMG in particular that has seduced me and I cannot explain it.
Is this car a ballet dancer, a heavyweight champion prize fighter, or a world class sprinter? Thankfully if you own one of these, you don't have to make that choice! Once again, BMW rules!!!
The only thing wrong with this car is that they haven’t put Alpina badges on the bonnet / hood and the boot / trunk lids like they do over here 🧐 Oh another thing I’d change is to have the kick plates illuminated in that stunning Alpina Green instead of Swedish Racing Green ☘️ Glad to see it’s the driver focused SWB rather than the limo-esque LWB model too After-all, they are classed as a manufacturer in their own right 🚙🇩🇪 Keep up the great work 👍🏻 #StaySafe 🦠😷
alpina b7 all day long simply becouse its so much better refined tuned and rarer than the other two which on their own are dream cars too.which colour?alpina blue what else?
Glad you asked . . . It's an MHD. You can learn about the watch, as well as it's designer in this episode - hint, he was also the Chief Designer at Morgan: th-cam.com/video/hkxGrofMO_k/w-d-xo.html
Interesting that Alpina is independent of BMW because they are advertised by BMW on the BMWUSA.com website. Mercedes' version is the AMG but Mercedes bought AMG.
I would choose the B7 the paint and spec it the way you have it. And I would choose it over the s class because of the myrtle wood grain on the interior because the Amg models don’t offer wood and I don’t want the carbon fiber and also the light interior and the top speed is faster vs 189mph you get 205mph and it’s rare and over the Porsche because it has more interior room and I like the proportions better and the alpina is cheaper than both of the other cars.
Hopefully will be trading my 2020 750i on this in July, and ordering the same color exterior, but with Cognac interior. I will take European delivery in Germany in late September, early October, just in time for Oktoberfest.
The 7 is the epitome of the saloon/sedan and the Alpina B7 is a masterpiece.
Quite a bargain for a private jet designed for the Autobahn.
B7 all-day, every day. It is the unicorn of all cars. The sleekest sleeper car.
Alpina, the connoisseur’s choice of BMW
I think the ideology on the “button-shifters” is because Alpina’s are branded towards a more luxurious commuting car built for comfort, with a crazy fast engine for the occasional fun.

One of my favorite cars. I love the B7, especially in that Alpina Green, which has been Alpina's signature color for many years.
B7 Alpina Green all day long and twice on Sundays. Rare, gorgeous, classy, and fast.
This is my favorite car in the world 2020-24 ALPINA B7!!!!!!!
B7 all the way. 205mph, exclusivity, exquisite attention to detail and rolls royce quality lavalina leather.
The white interior and the Myrtle wood groan against the green paint I love it
B7 for me, luxury sports in this spec 👌🏻
Damn!! This is very special. No way will pick the Panamera or S class vs this. However, would consider an M760Li, also a special car. I saw this green in real life and it’s exquisite, the traditional Alpina blue is also special.
or you can be like my neighbor and have a B7 and Panamera
I drive b7 and my wife drives panamera 4S. We both agree these cars are the antithesis of each other - they are exceptional for what they do.
That was fun. Way better than the new S series spaceships... The green is excellent!
The s class is best
Definitely that BMW B7, it’s stunning in side and out, the uniqueness and quality is great, I would just change the interior color but keep the stunning green.

Alpinas are gorgeous !

Hoovie will add this to his fleet in about 5 years.
In 15 years and complain about the vehicle.

Another great review from moto-man bringing one great review after another
Absolutely getting an Emerald Green XB7 Alpina front and rear emblems, light tan leather with cedar wood including floors and a Protection package!!
The 3000 RPM torque curve is impressive. Between 2000 and 5000 RPM is just about the perfect range for a car like this to have all that torque on tap and ready to go.
I own one from 2018, it’s truly a fantastic car,
I have the B8 it has everything the B7 has with a sexier shape 💎
Just take all my money for that green beauty 💰

In yesterday’s thumbnail, from the wheel, I thought it was some modded BMW with HRE’s - this is amazing
I like this very much, but now i can afort it......i can't find any!
B7 all the way, in Black. Nothing else..
Santa María, Madre de Dios.
I'll have the Alpina, thank you very much.
It'll be very close to this one, only things I'd change are the Alpina blue & black Alcantara headliner.

@@MotoManTV hahaha
Funny you bring up the 760, I was very tempted to mention it in my initial comment.
Lovely car lovely colour! Great review too!
I'm a sucker for all things Porsche, there's truely no substitute. As for color I would go for either the dark blue or black. I feel like it is a better drivers car and ultimately I would go for drivers dynamics over everything else.
Bought a 2014 in azurite black metallic....loved that car...

Good used Alpinas are very sought after in Germany. And sometimes they are the better pick than a M car. Very good cars.
That green is stunning, even on TV. The wheels are the absolute selling point for me, I would gladly take this over an AMG or Porsche Panamera. Why? It’s more exclusive (and not to mention classy and elegant).

Panamera. in black, looks and drives beautifully.
This thing is massively fast for the weight. Wow. Bmw never made an M7 but this is better
Get the Alpina because it’s subtly the most exclusive and cool. For car nuts it’s the way to go and have fun discussions. Porsche probably drives the best but that’s what a 911 is for on the weekends. Although the green is cool I prefer the blue.

If I had to choose I’d pick the B7 in “Alpina Gruen II Metallic” with Ivory leather and piano black trim over a Porsche Panamera Turbo or the S Class AMG because of its uniqueness and just to be different. I would also choose this only because of the Alpina Wheels!
S AMG is amazing
If they, Alpina, are independent of BMW, why do they carry the BMW badge? Do they make other cars too? Thanks, New Subscriber
No they don’t make other brands, they are basically a tuning company for BMW

B7 Alpina green - exclusivity
Is this car a ballet dancer, a heavyweight champion prize fighter, or a world class sprinter? Thankfully if you own one of these, you don't have to make that choice! Once again, BMW rules!!!
The only thing wrong with this car is that they haven’t put Alpina badges on the bonnet / hood and the boot / trunk lids like they do over here 🧐
Oh another thing I’d change is to have the kick plates illuminated in that stunning Alpina Green instead of Swedish Racing Green ☘️
Glad to see it’s the driver focused SWB rather than the limo-esque LWB model too
After-all, they are classed as a manufacturer in their own right 🚙🇩🇪
Keep up the great work 👍🏻

I, too, would love to see the Alpina badges on the US cars . . . an easy enough fix, I guess.
Does Alpina do any V12 BMW’s anymore?
Idk for the next generation
alpina b7 all day long simply becouse its so much better refined tuned and rarer than the other two which on their own are dream cars too.which colour?alpina blue what else?
Never seen one or driven one but I love Alpinas.
What type of wrist watch are you wearing? It has caught my attention in a few videos. Cars and watches. . . ;)
Glad you asked . . . It's an MHD. You can learn about the watch, as well as it's designer in this episode - hint, he was also the Chief Designer at Morgan: th-cam.com/video/hkxGrofMO_k/w-d-xo.html
This or the m760li . You be the judge 😃. Great review !!

B7, because of the unique engineeing
Interesting that Alpina is independent of BMW because they are advertised by BMW on the BMWUSA.com website. Mercedes' version is the AMG but Mercedes bought AMG.
Id get the B7 in Alpina Green with the gold decals.
I would chose the Alpina if it came with a V12
B7 Alpina Green with all black addons. Autobahn Mafia
Beautiful color but that grill if it was just a bit smaller!
Hopefully will be trading my 2020 750i on this in July, and ordering the same color exterior, but with Cognac interior. I will take European delivery in Germany in late September, early October, just in time for Oktoberfest.
Panamera Turbo S. White and purple interior and Purple exterior
This is the best flagship car if you’re looking for luxury and sporty
Your reviews are a cut above other channels
Could it be as heavy as the Toyota Tundra?
Easy choice: Panamera Turbo...fast, prestigious, and a family sports car!
Alpinas are all luxury cars for the street. They just include incredible high speed performance. The B7 is a little faster than the Turbo, too.
