The BYD Atto 3 is a great choice for people who are looking for an affordable fully optioned electric vehicles. Does this car still perform well after 6 months and 11000km ?
#BYD6monthsownershipreview #atto 3
Thanks Chris. I have same Impressions so far. After 5 months of owning atto3 I still happy with the choice 😊
Great to hear!

I have owned a byd han ev for 2.5 years and it drives like new. i have gone thru 3 maintainences which are more like formality to me. no part has been replaced yet and none is needed in a short while. maintainence costs around 30 usd where i am. my bmw ice is collecting dust and i expect it to stay that way forever.
I drove my atto 3 12000KM in 2 months and it held up well. I didn’t even get to do the 5000km service until 13000KM. It runs smooth as.
How the fuck do u drive 60k km in 1 month?
@@iVengeancee It's 6k per month, but in answer to your question; 2k per day on a 30 day month. Simple.
@@aussieideasman8498 don’t need to try to be a smart ass here bro, you know what I meant
@@aussieideasman8498if my Asian math is correct, you meant 200kms per day for 30 days right😂
@@iVengeancee But dumb people don't know what you meant. Besides - I don't try.
BYD will take the EV World by Storm
Good stuff, I am expecting my Atto 3 soon here in the UK, it's good to see its holding up well and that you are still happy after 6 months
if only you would start driving on the right side...not the wrong side. love oyu brits, but you food is horrible...ok, we got sauerkraut...let's call it even XD hope you will report how you like the car. byd are interesting
Hi from Sydney Australia
@@thecursed01 We Brits, Aussies, Japs and a few other places sit on the right side, making it better to drive on the left side of roads (and safer). Pictures of the first cars show drivers sitting to the right. The Brits used their brains and went steering was the most important function, and most people steer better being right-handed, so best to use the left hand for gear changes. Gear shifters were best located in the centre, so the decision was easy. Germans and Yanks probably flipped a coin, lol.
Seven months with ours. Agree all your points. The Atto is startling good. The competition has some work ahead.
I appreciate the information. BYD just got here to Mexico and are opening locations like crazy with plenty of inventory. I needed to know about durability before pulling the trigger
Hi Dany, you need at least 4years of warranty like in Australia. Seems to be problems with 12V battery and AC compressor other than that very strong and well built car.
As atto3 owner, I am glad it can put one fully size baby carriage and a folding bike.
My son's wheelchair easily fits in the back.
4 year novated lease, 189 a week with insurance, rego, services and tyres covered (plus 18k payout at end).. I didn't cover charging as I will use mostly solar to charge. Pick it up this coming Monday and home charger (with solar smart integration) installed in a few weeks. Thanks for videos, interesting content for a Atto 3 buyer.
Great lease, thanks for sharing:)
Unless they spec it differently for Australia, I dont have that high a regard for noise levels. Wind noise is noticable from 90kmh in my case. Handling - still on the Atlas Batman and I’d say, not great/confidence inspiring. Suspension is lovely around town. Very comfy. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy my Atto3. Horses for courses and all that. Been a good 16,000km 5-months in. Let’s see how the year goes.
Great video Chris. It's important we share genuine, independent longer term reviews of EV ownership to help others decide which car suits.
Of particular interest to most people is the Chinese manufactured vehicles coming to Australia like the Volvo, Tesla, MG, Polestar etc. So good to see your review on the BYD.
My 3yr review of owning the MG ZS EV is coming up in the next few months. 👍🔋🌞
Hi Greg thanks for the great feedback it encourages me to keep going. Clean air in our country will be here soon. Go EV's💪🦾

I have two thoughts:
1. Hope Byd can invest in a company, appointing Chris as an authorised dealer of Byd vehicles in Australia and/or in another country.
This is because Chris can be trusted. Chris is also a champion for clean air motoring for his country.👏🏻
2. Owners of byd can hope that with the ongoing and never ending research and improvement of battery technology at Byd, they can change the battery to a much better battery after 5 or 6 years, at a reasonable cost. This is because the strength of byd lies in their battery development.
im loving mine... will be a year this Aug!
Have you ever had a serious problem
Good video. Thanks
Glad you liked it!
Nice video. Waiting for facelift,.
great review, thanks bro~~
Glad you liked it!
Hi Chris, which phone cradle do you think is best for the Atto 3? You could do a short video on the topic.
Great idea! thank you.
I’ve had mine for 7 months and love except for a serious windscreen fogging issue which I get in cold weather down here in Tasmania. The issue supposed to have been improved with the last update but it hasn’t!
I carry a cloth just in case it happens to me. But having no problems in Sydney.
I live in a cold climate and haven't had this problem. Check the aircon drain, it could have a blockage causing water to back up into the heat exchanger.
I like the Atto3...but, and i know this is a tiny thing, the drivers info display is about 2 degrees off centre (check it with a small level if you cant tell by the eye)...i can see it immediately when sat in one and i just cant deal with it.
It's adjustable. Just cover off behind the screen and adjust the level .
Test drove one, but I though it was too loud inside and the interior looks just hideous. Ended up buying a Tesla 3, no regrets.
Test drove both plus MG. BYD size suited me more than MG, and BYD SUV more than Tesla3. BYD is a lot cheaper than T3. Plain/stark interior of T3 put me off too. Plus months after paying my deposit on T3 still no car and no idea of when. So I cancelled. Glad I did now!!
What phone holder and front dashboard mat are you using?
They are all from Aliexpress
Thumbs up.
Hi Chris, I bought an Atto3 for a week now but the building navigation seems to have constant difficulty locating car’s position and direction. The result is the car in navigation app always goes off track, and reroute, then back on track, then off track again, and repeat. Customer service suggested system reset. I’ve done that but no improvement.
Do you think it may have to do with it wanting to avoid "Highways" being selected in the options. We experience the car wanting to take all the back roads and avoiding the freeways as we realised later.
@@sammaimas155 no I unticked “avoid highways” and the navigation system still have problem locating itself even in metropolitan roads. Oh another issue I find out is the settings in navigation system do not seem to be saved? I often find out that I had to untick “avoid highways” and other options over and over again
@@chasingexcellence6646 yeah the avoid highways option doesn't seem to be saved when you untick it, very frustrating. Your other issue re GPS maybe needs a trip to the service centre.
I've had mine for 3,400 kms and the infotainment system is close to being crap. Get a phone with Android and use Waze for a full screen nav. No idea what Apple does, but Google Maps is small on Android. My biggest gripe is it's not user-friendly with things like not keeping settings from last drives. You would at least think your radio comes back on, and it irks you to have to put it on over and over for the life of the car. There are dozens of bugbears like this, but I would still buy one because the car does impress with how well goes in all other aspects. I just hope updates can iron out the foibles over time.
Hi,
Check Avoid highways is not ticked in Navigation settings. After updates this defaults to On.
Hi Chris, my name is Howard Cairns, a BYD Atto 3 owner and about a month ago I joined in on the 3 way discussion on BYD issues that were discussed on Ian of BYD & Tesla Owners YT page . Discussion concluded that there would be a questionnaire for all to contribute suggestions to BYD for improvements to our BYD Atto3's. I have seen nothing since. I have tried to contact Ian about what happened but no response. Do you know anything?
Cheers,
Howard
Hi Howard, thank you for rasing the issue. I will look into it.
For all the international watchers - not many Aussies say 'f' for 'th'. lol.
Hey mate, I’m so close to buying the car, would u still recommend it still now ?
Abosolutely best bang for buck still after 2years.
Хоть у меня и нет электромобиля, но у моего друга есть пломба, он сказал, что после езды на электромобиле не захочется ездить на бензиновой машине, не говоря уже о резком запахе масла.
I feel the same:)
How the heck are you doing so many Kms in Sydney? DO you work in Newcastle or what?
I love driving the car. Been to Qld and back plus many regional weekends away.
A car reviewer said the screen has too much reflection, the driver's screen isn't straight and the headrest forces the head forward too much. What's your take? I don't really pay too much attention to motoring journalists as I find they typically want every car to be a gocart. It's just there's not too many reviews from car owners online.
I agree with the headrests. I have never had a problems with the screens. Reviewers don't have the car long enough to understand them. So I don't place a lot of faith in their reviews
Use add on neck rest pillows. This should help.
Never found a problem with headrests. Or much else. Nav is a bit soso, wish I could load GoggleMaps directly, not via AA
Colours chosen for drivers screen could be better, BLACK for cruise speed when its active. Minor stuff really. Overall, a GREAT car for the price
What are servicing cost and frequency?
1year $300. But in reality no service required. Legacy Auto wants money.
My first service was free. Not reached next yet.
Is there any rust appear? Because I just read some articles that stated BYD Atto 3 has many rust issus
No. Don't always believe what you read:)
@@Carnormous Hahaha noted mate
Perhaps post the link to the articles and you might have a bit more credibility.

You need to invest in a microphone or recorder that clips on your clothes. With a Wind cover.
I was waiting for that car many months and then it came it disappoint me service is so expensive £300 every year I choose MG 4 EV benefits 7 years warranty 8 years warranty on the battery and 3 years free service plus good looking car. Plus 0% finances for 2 years. Plus 135KWh charging speed, noise cabin much lower and drives better + cheaper price. Got around 5 miles/kWh in town efficiency.
How long does it maintain that DC charging speed, the Atto 3 holds its 88kwh speed well the practical differences are probably small, what is the battery technology the faster charging version of the MG4 have the nickel manganese cobalt batteries, untick. The MG is very well priced in the UK relative to the Atto, it is different in Australia.
England certainly prioritizes the MG brand
Is there hight adjust in front seat
Hi Insaan, yes has 3way adjustment all electric on both front seats.

Would love to see your car pulled apart to look for rust issues, as reported elsewhere. Fancy volunteering it? 😆
Maybe in 10years:)

I drive an Atto 3 here in China. Can anyone
confirm that when the car is plugged and
charging at a fast charger and you are inside the car with the engine on and the AC on there is a loud running noise comming from the front hood like an engine or something. I got the same noise when I start the AC remotely from the BYD app to cool down the car before I reach to it in the parking lot during hot days. When I drive the car normally I don't hear that sound. Also I noticed that when I increase the AC fan speed the noise is louder. Is it the heat pump? Why I don’t hear this noise when I drive the car normally with the AC on? Is this normal?
Thanks!
Yes it's normal. Road noise seems to cover up the sound of the heat pump while you are driving. Heat pump takes cold air from the radiator while you are moving so does not have to work hard which it does when you are stopped.
Thanks. Sometimes when I start the
AC and the car is unplugged and
stationary I can not hear any sound. I
wonder why that running sound is so
obvious when I charge the car at a
fast charger and the AC is on.
你最好去看下说明书,上面说的很明确。高电流在方向盘下方流动。主要是给前机箱(前置电机,以及空调,和转向助力)用电设备供电。
Because You are stay.. if You move You have a frontwind, what is serve a couple of air.
You hear the Vent, I think.. this went not in full mode when You are in motion..
Hi Chris, where do you get the aftermarket accessories ?
Hi Brendan, you can buy them from your favourite online store such as eBay or Amazon.
this is lowend ev in china why becoming so expensive in australia?
Australia has very high wages like Europe and USA. Everything here is expensive but wages are very good. I wish the car was cheaper we have only MG that are cheaper. Send us more EVS please.
Is it really low end, if that is true where does the seagull and the Dolphin fit in; ultra low end. It is a mid range car, around $50k in Australia and well enough equipped, comfortable, strong safety scores and with enough performance to sit in this price bracket no problem. EV's excel in the city, stop start motoring, if that is not your predominant use case, perhaps look elsewhere. Its efficiency drops off a bit at higher speeds next to my Model 3 but around the city probably only 1.6kwh per 100km difference.
140,000 rmb. Abt $30k. I guess small market means ADR changes cost, plus shipping etc.
Its also connected to what the market can stand and why go lower if competition (MG) dont. Its cheapest EV here. Qld $46k after rebate.
BYD Atto 3 在中国每个月的销量有30000-40000辆车,这是一个很恐怖的数字
Why is it terrifying?

The aud 125k lexus rx500 does it in 6.2s. For less than half the cost it's very respectable.
Get the BYD seal then if it's speed you're after. Will leave all of them behind at 3.8s
I don't know man, I test drove one of these the other day, it certainly doesn't overtake like a V8 you really have to plant your foot to get it to move.
You have to put in spot mode.

No.

Thank you, I saw this and therefore thought byd is rusty
Has anyone reached 50k /100k miles on one of these cars??
In Australia i believe there is one Uber has done 50K.
There is a taxi in China I believe has done around 1 million kms and lost around 5-8% in the battery. The average driver should get at least 30 years out of it.
@@davidwgrainger byd started as a battery manufacturer, their batteries are high tech and no doubt about that. Iam concerned about the quality and the reliability of the car itself , especially the mechanical aspect of it

How much money did you get from BYD competitors?
@@cclenergy3033 You guys are just highlighting the problem with the internet - nobody knows who's telling the truth and who's lying, nor what their motives are. It happens everywhere and there's no remedy for it, sadly. I can give you my quick evaluation, but am I a liar or telling the truth? Is someone paying me, or not? It's the car is worth buying due to the way it drives and the long-term economy, despite having a lot of bugbears. One offsets the other. That's my opinion.
Now for some things you can figure out for yourself:
If you live in QLD, like me, it is a viable proposition as an economical buy compared against direct competition, and that $6,000 rebate is a big factor. For a start, it is much better than the MG ZS EV on specs for the difference in outlay. Compared against ICE cars; they don't get the 6 grand, and they pay about $2 a litre while I use my roof solar. Again, being in sunny QLD is a factor, and you have your own situation to do the maths, not mine. Under 2 years back I made a couple of videos saying EVs were not worth looking at, but 3 months back I was ready to update my wife's Polo, and did the research from scratch. It wasn't easy doing a backflip, but I deal in facts, so bit the bullet and went EV. I still keep my SLK350, so the best of both worlds. I would not get an EV if I didn't have an ICE car as well. I hope this helps?
