    Hi Chris, my name is Howard Cairns, a BYD Atto 3 owner and about a month ago I joined in on the 3 way discussion on BYD issues that were discussed on Ian of BYD & Tesla Owners YT page . Discussion concluded that there would be a questionnaire for all to contribute suggestions to BYD for improvements to our BYD Atto3's. I have seen nothing since. I have tried to contact Ian about what happened but no response. Do you know anything? Cheers, Howard

    I went the other way, much prefer the Atto. I particularly like its AM/FM/DAB+ and Internet radio, its nice smooth ride, ease of entryexit (which is much easier on my back) and powered sun shade/sun roof and finally low price (in my case $48K). The sunshade is great for climate control keeps car cool in summer and warm in winter. I can get very good range out of the Atto, but above 100km/hr the Tesla gets better range (about 10%@110km/hr). 90km/hr and below they have much the same range.

    It’s good you’re happy with it , I’d be interested to see the exact same trip every couple of years as the battery degrades . A family member has a dual motor Tesla , like all EVs it comes with a bunch of compromises , and one big things about EVs , if you ever have a family emergency and have to cover a lot of miles in a hurry , EVs are a disaster, you cannot rely on them. And that piss poor range is only going to shrink as the car gets older. But all the best to you.

    • @ScottKernaghan
      @ScottKernaghan 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      What rot. You're recycling the same points that have not been accurate for even a decade, and your 'family emergency' line is deliberately manipulative. The fact is you don't own and EV or have really done any research into it, but.... a family member apparently has one so, somehow this qualifies your position? You have no idea even of the durability of the battery in this car - you are just basing it on what was true for the Nissan Leaf about a decade or so ago. Has your family member's battery degraded enough to qualify this? I bet it hasn't. A quick google and you'll actually have a sense of how much you don't actually know. But hey, if you love paying for increasingly expensive petrol just because you think the battery won't last (untrue) and you.... may.... may... need to cover ground quickly because of a family emergency, well. Good luck to you.

If you mean the battle to end our addiction to the instrument of poison that is the ICE for (at east) road transport then, NO!!... and anyone buying a hybrid who thinks they are doing *anything* to that end is a complete moron. If, on the other hand, you mean the race to come up with a comfort blanket for the lazy/ignorant/hypocritical/stupid to allows them to convince themselves they are being 'green' (but actually achieving nothing more than perpetuating Big Oil's grip on our economy and continuing to destroy our ecology) then, YES!!!

    • @synthmaker
      @synthmaker 18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@martinwinlow Not sure if I missed the point. I own a Tesla Model 3 Performance, it takes me 5 seconds to plug it in the evening and another 5 seconds to unplug it in the morning. I never have to go to a petrol station where, even if it takes just a couple of minutes, I would have to be holding the nozzle and process a payment. My point is that when I hear criticism about how it takes too long to charge an EV, it makes not sense to me. People that have never experienced it should try to compare it with charging an iPhone, even if it takes a couple of hours, you're not waiting holding the cable. It's very clear to me that EVs are the future, the only reason some people still prefer hybrids is because of myths like the charging time. Also with a Tesla there's absolutely no range anxiety.

Not to mention the cost of electricity and the incredibly expensive tire cost. I don't think there is anything green about disposing of such a large battery. At the moment, EV car technology is completely far from its original purpose of being environmentally friendly. Not paying for fuel at all. Sounds like nothing more than self-deception.

    What I’d really like to know is what it’s fuel consumption is once the battery is depleted. It looks to be (at best) 6l/100km (1000km from a 60l tank) but once you take the battery range of 80km off that it’s 6.5l/100km. Okay for a 2.1T car I guess. Disappointing it is FWD and runs on 95RON fuel. Also disappointing is it can only tow 1300kg (braked). It is cheaper than a Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV but inferior in my opinion. Supposedly there is a Sealion 07 coming which is all electric and going to have the same battery pack as the Seal.

    Interesting comments made in your show. However, I think you have missed the point why PHEV are actually becoming more popular, and it’s not the fact that people are worried about the unknown. Let’s take a look at the price point, its ability and the competition. Let’s take a family of four who the dad is the main driver who commutes 60-90km round trip to work. They have a small camper trailer and they like to go on some dirt tracks to get to these places. The dad has the option to have a novated lease at work and so can serious save some money due to the FBT allowances (until April next year). So here’s a car which won’t break the bank, is AWD, can tap into the solar power and go on long trips without any range anxiety. I have just described most Dad’s in Australia! This isn’t a transition to EV. It’s a reality of what can seriously tick all the family boxes, safe some coin and enjoy some superb acceleration to make him feel like he’s in a hot hatch. A serious contender in the auto market.

Then maybe some would have bought it to use it without petrol and only the 80km - 90km range battery - more than enough to zip around in the day for work/school and then charge it from your 7kw/11kw home wall EVSE cable. PHEVs with the battery range this Sealion 6 has is the way to go. Perfect for urban use and with a spare wheel or space saver perfect for country road trips. I’ve rooftop solar so keeping this PHEV charged would be simple. A Tesla model 3 over 1500km in eastern Vic over Easter yes the super chargers are quick to recharge but there’s a lot of charging stops. I came away not like the highland 3 one little bit. Cars like the ATTO 3 Melbourne to Daylesford and back, if you get to woodend and find the charger not working then it’s a drive to Kyneton to charge. Yes petrol is expensive but against this you have depreciation of an EV. Once a petrol car is 5-10 years the depreciation almost ends, yes there’s a bit more maintenance. With the Toyota RAV 4 hybrid we took one of these from Melb to Daylesford and back twice in a weekend. Typical Toyota lots of grey plastic and the radar cruise control problematic, if another car passes you and cuts in in front of you, on go the Toyota brakes and not in a gentle way. With the Toyota the battery only powers the car to perhaps 40/50km/hr then the ICE cuts in. If they could put a bigger battery in so this happens at 80km/hr would be great. In my experience the only time you experience the electric part of a hybrid Toyota is in traffic, sadly it’s all too short. The premium Sealion 6 has 96kW and 220nm on the petrol engine plus it’s a turbo. I know it weighs just over 2mt. My current car is half this weight with 77kw and 175nm. With the Sealion 6 I’d be buying a spare wheel or space saver, Jack and jacking pads and if it’s on chinese tyres they would get replaced down the track with Michelins or continentals.

      Driving a Tesla, particularly in the country, is the exact opposite of relaxing. Passengers in my experience get very unsettled. The microphone is nowhere as effective as Apple Car play when it comes to instruction, the lack of indicators stalks in the Highland model 3 is problematic, you can’t even open the glovebox without going to the stupid screen. No provision of or space for a spare wheel, Musk is from another planet. We experienced a lot of phantom braking on our 1500km country round trip. Urban wise using cruise control whip is necessary in draconian Vic I found the Tesla braking heavily when just driving down a 50km/hr road and about to pass a parked car. In my mind the Tesla was as relaxing as minding a Rottweiler or kelpie dog. It was the end of my Tesla ownership aspirations. Coming home we struck heavy rain. When this happens you look a lot of functions, cruise Control, etc. but musk saved a few scheckles going from radar to cameras?

    Thanks for the review. I’m reviewing the BYD Seal Premium in sunny Singapore. Would be great to hear comments and inputs from owners and how this compare against the likes of the Tesla Model 3 (highland), Ioniq 5 or 6 or equivalent options in the market?
