Analog.Man Peppermint Fuzz...Let's Get Buzzy!!

Here is a killer fuzz pedal from Mike Piera at Analog.Man...the Peppermint Fuzz! At its heart, it's a Germanium Fuzz Face (and is built on Mike's Sun Face circuit board) - but the component selection and high-gain transistors make it a very different beast!
The most versatile element of this pedal is the 'Buzz' control - which is a sort-of bias and EQ in one. Up top, it's thick and wooly like a nice Ge Fuzz Face; in the middle, it's bitey and aggressive like the best Si fuzzes are; and as you turn it down, it becomes super-gated and spitty for those super-cool broken synth tones. ...all in one box!

Guitar is a Fender Strat with Fralin Real '54 pickups recorded through a Hughes & Kettner Puretone (Celestion AlNiCo Gold; Aston Spirit Condenser & 70's Sennheiser MD441) and a Dr Z DB4 (Celestion AlNiCo Cream; sE RNR1 Ribbon) with a Schoeps CMC6 room mic.

This was my first fuzz :) just opened it up the other day and couldn’t find much info about the AC126 transistors. But I love the gated sound you got from it!
This was super helpful, thank you for showing the pedal’s reaction to the guitar volume cleanup! There are not a lot of other videos on TH-cam of this pedal with that detail.

It certainly gets close to the sound of my Red Dot at certain settings :-)
Great demonstration again Joe. If you like gated sounds you can have a look at the Karma suture from catalinbread.. By the way just got my fuzz Phrase (1.version) today.. you had helped me to decide about with your Videos... and not regreting at all!! Love it!!

A few people have asked me about that recently - I might make a video on it! I'm tempted to say Fuzz into Treble Booster; but personally I don't think I'd use the two together. Will try to explore that in a video soon :-)
