I was watching this while pooping in a public restroom and inadvertently harmonized my fart with an A note and the dude a couple stalls down said "Nice.". Awesome.
Guitar player and I do too. I have a fuzz face and an sf300 before my wah and I love doing swells and messing with the cocked wah thing. Wah before high gain doesn't make enough of a difference
The buffer fundamentally changes the range and eq of the Fuzz,- which can be good or bad, depending on what you want. As also briefly noted, what cuts through a mix, and what sounds great solo, are two different things; add a little reverb or delay, - even more change.Unfortunately, in a band mix, some of those qualities you might love in a pedal get washed away or sucked under.
Thank you for sound leveling your videos whether on purpose of by accident. It's much easier to watch without having to deal with incompetent sound levels by so many other You Tubers.
I use to put wah 1st and then fuzz and the only reason I had it this way was because that's how Jimi Hendrix wired up his pedals, but I really didn't like the way the wah sounded when the fuzz was engaged. I'm using a Crybaby Classic and Jimi Hendrix Fuzz Face Mini. I swapped the order to Fuzz 1st then Wah and it made a world of a difference. For me, Fuzz then Wah is the way to go!
Great, just for the right time, when I got myself a fuzz for my board. Currently I play fuzz-wah, but with the buffer thing - I might just try it the other way round again, with my boss SD-1 in the middle as buffer.
Sounds awesome dude! You don't always need a buffer though. Try it out without it and if it doesn't work stick the buffer between them. And most importantly: have fun playing man! //cheers, Kris
Im a little belated but im doing this exact thing and it works really well marshall -> vox wah -> pitch fork ehx -> boss sd-1 -> JH fuzz face mini Got a really creamy hendrixish tone. To die for!
Time to stick my fuzz in front of my wah. I have a fuzz with a built in buffer, but the buffer takes a lot of the fuzz sound away. Will have to try this!
That was really interesting. I tend towards fuzz before way but I didn't know about the almost cancelling effect when down the other way around. Very cool.
I've got my wah after my gain stack (OD into FUZZ). But imo chaining pedals is something personal, you build YOUR sound. I tried every possible combination before deciding on the order of my pedals. My ears made the decision.
Just for the records, there's a third way: the original VOX Double Sound had the WAH and the FUZZ in parallel (and no buffers anywhere). And the fuzz was relatively close to the Hendrix Fuzz Face.
Fuzz > wah is like squeezing your fuzz through a tube. As you go from heel down to toe down it's like you're gradually introducing more fuzz into your signal. Wah > fuzz gives you a more chaotic sound, probably because you're filtering your clean tones with the wah THEN fuzzing them up, resulting in a sound with a lot of overtones.
The switcher.. Is a Boss and has a buffer. If I put anything with a buffer before my fuzz face it's not good. I have an active tone in my bass and it doesn't work with mt fuzz face. Any Fuzz Face variant that has an "attack" knob is able to add resistance on the input and will be happy to oblige any placement in the chain.
Yeah as soon as I saw the boss feeding the fuzz inputs I was a bit skeptical about the results of this, general rule being to keep buffers after the fuzz. Just picked up the dunlop mini germanium, will have to do my own experiments.
@@DaddySoulDonut it becomes more of a fuzz with parallel coils lowering input resistance with my humbucker gets mine into oscillating with the fuzz level. Square waves.

I'm now very confused. HELP! So Wah into Fuzz won't work without a buffer in front of the fuzz? But Fuzz into Wah is fine? What about with Distortion pedals? Is the conventional order Wah into Distortion? This stuff always confuses me.
Hi guys. Thanks for this. It taught me why my wah to fuzzface wasn't working. Is there a list of which pedals from boss work this way? I tried my DS-1 and it made no difference, so is it only the waza versions that have the better / more appropriate buffer built in?
I like to think of the placement topic as your preferred tone into a desired effect on your preferred tone. For me that’s my core drive sound into each and any other affects. I’m not a fan of distorting “effects”. But each to their own 🤘

No, you get a Wah that can handle it, or there are Fuzz Faces with ability to go after, and it doesn’t change the Fuzz at all.

And he's using a wha before wha then a wha after the wah ... all together!!

Cry Baby isn't true bypass.
What happen if:
1) True Bypass Wah > Fuzz?
2) Any differences if germanium or silicon fuzz?
True bypass doesn't matter, the buffer is necessary, and germanium is the same way

Auto wah with reverse might be best (regardless of order)... Maybe even a studio reverb at the end.
