The buffer fundamentally changes the range and eq of the Fuzz,- which can be good or bad, depending on what you want.
As also briefly noted, what cuts through a mix, and what sounds great solo, are two different things; add a little reverb or delay, - even more change.Unfortunately, in a band mix, some of those qualities you might love in a pedal get washed away or sucked under.

I use to put wah 1st and then fuzz and the only reason I had it this way was because that's how Jimi Hendrix wired up his pedals, but I really didn't like the way the wah sounded when the fuzz was engaged. I'm using a Crybaby Classic and Jimi Hendrix Fuzz Face Mini. I swapped the order to Fuzz 1st then Wah and it made a world of a difference. For me, Fuzz then Wah is the way to go!

Great, just for the right time, when I got myself a fuzz for my board. Currently I play fuzz-wah, but with the buffer thing - I might just try it the other way round again, with my boss SD-1 in the middle as buffer.

I've got my wah after my gain stack (OD into FUZZ). But imo chaining pedals is something personal, you build YOUR sound. I tried every possible combination before deciding on the order of my pedals. My ears made the decision.

Fuzz > wah is like squeezing your fuzz through a tube. As you go from heel down to toe down it's like you're gradually introducing more fuzz into your signal.
Wah > fuzz gives you a more chaotic sound, probably because you're filtering your clean tones with the wah THEN fuzzing them up, resulting in a sound with a lot of overtones.

The switcher.. Is a Boss and has a buffer.
If I put anything with a buffer before my fuzz face it's not good. I have an active tone in my bass and it doesn't work with mt fuzz face.
Any Fuzz Face variant that has an "attack" knob is able to add resistance on the input and will be happy to oblige any placement in the chain.

    • @DaddySoulDonut
      @DaddySoulDonut 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yeah as soon as I saw the boss feeding the fuzz inputs I was a bit skeptical about the results of this, general rule being to keep buffers after the fuzz. Just picked up the dunlop mini germanium, will have to do my own experiments.

    a
    wah-fuzz-
    fuzz-wah firework
    display for the fourth
    of july!!...i love wah
    and fuzz or fuzz
    and wah!!...a
    question i have is
    why do guitarists often
    play around like here
    with a whole bunch
    of pedals but then
    just never seem
    to REALLY use
    them in actual
    musical
    combat!?...
    they just pussy around
    only getting slightly
    down and dirty
    with their
    sound!! 🎶🙄🎶 ...
    i find that the dirtier
    the sound the
    more i like
    it!! ...
    do you think i have
    a problem doctor
    andy!? ...
    i certainly have problems
trying to get a fix for
    my audio
    habit!! ...
    my demand far exceeds
    the supply that i can
    find here
    in
    youtubeland!! ...
    another question i have
    is can you please
    tell me about
    any guitarists worldwide
    who really and i mean
    REALLY give it the
    full monty
    in their regular
    playing fuzz-wah-
    wah-fuzz wise!? ...
    i happen to
    follow on and off
    a protege of yours
    called filippa...she goes
on and on at length about guitar
    pedals quite often and
    has an awesome
    board i've seen
    full of them...but then
    sadly she never seems
    to actually USE them
    much...alas she
    shops lots but
    uses little!! 😂 ...
is this how it is with
    guitarists nowadays...
    all talk and no
    action!? ...
    is fuzz-wah dead!? ...
    only this morning i
    discovered a so-called
    'blues rock guitarist'
    wallowing in hype and
    of long standing who
    then proceeded NOT
    to entertain me
    with his sadly all
    too clean playing!! ...
    i let him know my
    feelings in a
    comment!! 🎸☹😡🤬 ...
i follow a lot of young
    guitarists on youtube...
    including toby lee
    the blues guitarist
    who doesn't seem at
all keen to use any sort
    of effect pedals or
    even work that shiny
    dangling thing found on
    a lot of guitars called
    a 'whammy bar' i think...
    it seems to me
    that it's only mainly
    asian players who have
    even mastered playing
    that properly and to
    good effect!! ...
    sorry that i've gone
on a bit here in my
    comment but it's
    something that i feel
    passionately about!! ...
    i want my guitarists
    to use MORE wah
    and fuzz!! ...
    i often wonder if there's
    a guitarist out there
    somewhere who
    ONLY uses wah and
fuzz in their guitar playing...what a breath
    of fresh air that
    would be!! ...
    without dirtyness guitar
    playing SOON gets
    boring and
    BEING BORING IS THE
    GREATEST CRIME
    IN MUSIC!! 👋🙂🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 ...

it seems most younger players haven't a clue how to use fuzz properly.
they keep their guitar vol and tone knobs permanently on 10,
then just thrash about playing full chords.
or speed metal solo tapping wankery...
