Henry Cotton's tire drills are much better than the impact bag - you can do simple hits like you are doing but you can also do single handed hits and back and forth hits in the inside of the tyre in order to gain forearm/wrist/grip strength - which is helpful whatever release pattern you do - even Henry Cottons old school one which is more like what you are teaching here. The rebound off the tire helps with doing the drill repeatedly and quickly, which you can't do with the impact bag. If you have one weak side (my right forearm has problems) the single handed drills can be used to equalise the sides out. Henry Cottons drill is shown in this video, which also features the great British boxer Henry Cooper : th-cam.com/video/p6zOfjOy4KU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Ze8xz_8TfxAqehMU
Very clear -have been frustrated with big variations in distance with irons, tried something similar with wrists with good results, will practice your drill.
Hi Frank, distance loss can be very frustrating as we sometimes feel we are putting a lot of effort in without the reward we would like. Introducing this lag and release if done correctly can have some lovely results. I hope it helps and wish you all the best. Regards Warren
Warren, truly exceptional presentation on what I believe is the most vital aspect of the swing, P5-finish. I think the sweet contact and distances really prove this! Subscribed and sincerely wish you the best. Thank you, Nat

Not to speak for Warren, but what I think he's saying is that doing something new does not translate into immediate results. So, if I went to the range or course and tried to implement this "new" thing, I may become frustrated if I don't see progress right away. @@griffehotte
I've been told to practice the feel of club parallel (p6) and didn't understand where the club and hands were exactly. Now with your exercise, I see the purpose of this, i.e. to feel the release. You are holding the wrists, spinning the forearm as Cowen calls it. Question: is the feel in front of the body, the right leg and then how far away from the body is it?
Many thanks for your message and feedback, very much appreciated. I would say yes generally it is in front of the right leg and a good barometer on how far it would be away from you, is your right elbow should be in contact with your body. If it isn’t you know it is too far out. Apologies on the delay of the delay getting back you. I hope this helps and any more questions please don’t hesitate to buz them over. Kind regards Warren
Just catching up on your videos , this is great and never been taught this release or snap into the ball before ! been working on laying the club more in my down swing but certainly using my body to supply the power as you showed, going to use this drill ,keep well bud.
Hi Dru, Good to hear from you mate. Yes I think combining the shallow with the release will be good for you. Remember you were always a bit steep so releasing would have been more difficult. Still a legend tho 🥰 Trev
Hi Marc, I would say yes but it’s very personal to the golfer. Generally the ‘club golfer’ doesn’t have enough hand and arm snap/release as they tend to over move their body, but the more elite the golfer it’s starts the sway to more body rotation needed, as they are too arm and handsy through impact. As mentioned, it’s all a blend of all the cogs of the swing. If you feel/know you have good release of your arms/hands/club then I would say yea Marc, layer rotation on that. Hope that helps. Kind regards Warren
Very good, just what I need. Maybe I’m thick but I could not find the link to hit and hold drill at end of description. Edit: just did a search and found it.
This is a great video...thank you. It would be wonderful if you would zero in on the club actually hitting the ball..from many angles. I am still a bit confused on where on the head the club meets the ball...and the angle. Make the whole video on just the face on the ball.
Hi there, I wish I had the technology! I would need a super slow mo camera for that or a more expensive launch monitor. Unfortunately I don’t have either. Sorry. Kind regards Warren
how is this related to the hands forward at impact , it seems like two different things, I'm trying to figure out? I see one where the hands are returned to the setup position and the other are in the line of compression and released quickly.
I get what you’re saying and you’re right, they’re more than one way to release and when to release, it all depends how the golfer swings and what needs to be layered. Some need an earlier release so the feel is to match up, others need to feel more handle forward to get neutral.
Warren great video. I have been searching for someone to help me with my hands and how to properly use them. I am a first-time subscriber. I really like the split screen in instructions, great job explaining. I have one question, is this the same for Driver and fairway woods? If not do you have a video on how to do this with a driver. Thanks Matt
Hi Matt, firstly apologies for the delay in getting back to you and thank you so much for dropping by the channel, it is very much appreciated. Yes Matt it will be the same for driver, because the ball position for the driver is more forward, the club will have more time to release so there’s a slight upward blow. I say to my students you don’t change your swing for different clubs, you change your stance. The only time you do it it if you’re hitting a certain shot, knock down etc. Hope that helps and wish you well Matt. Regards Warren
Absolutely it’s all about getting those hands and club matching up to the body rotation, and agreed Rory likes that split arm drill as he does tend to get a bit stuck occasionally, all be it I would like to get stuck like him! Many thanks for leaving a comment and great to have you on the channel. Regards Warren

@@warrenbennettgolfacademy Thank you Warren, that is very nice of you. I will do a little research and figure out the best way to get some videos to you. Thanks again!
I incorporated this release down to ulnar deviation through impact action in my swing about a dozen years ago after reading Hogan’s Five Lessons, using his waggle wrist action, and also being exposed to and studying the swing of trick shot artist Harry Frankenberg (aka Count Yogi). Moe Norman also had the same radial-to-ulnar deviation wrist action in his downswing but with an unconventional grip that put the wrists in ulnar deviation at address. What all three where renowned for were hitting very powerful and consistently straight shots. It generates far more club head acceleration that the conventional “lag and drag” method, similar to how a dual-lever-action trebuchet can toss a projectile further than a single lever catapult but requires very consistent biomechanics (like Hogan’s) and taking into account that the length of the shaft affect how long it takes the club head mass to swing down around the hands. Hogan took that into account by using a constant ball position inside the lead foot but altering stance open for short shafts and closed for longer. The alternative approach is to just take a full force practice swing then adjust position of feet to ball based on where the club swing arc bottoms out. Both work effectively once the cause and effect is understood.
Yes it can be layered for any club. Just change your stance for the longer clubs. Especially fairways and driver. Hope that helps and wishing you well. Kind regards Warren
just stumbled across this and was shocked .... i've been working on this very thing.... are you psychic??? i recently started choking up on my driver and it feels so much faster through the hitting zone because of what you are covering here... one piece take away with super quiet hands and arms... but taking it to barely parallel ... then starting the downswing with everything but my arms and floating my wrist into a lag position and snap-whipping the club through the hitting zone..... thanks for your content...
I have been working on this and have a question regarding weight transfer. It looks like you are transferring from rear to front foot at the same time as the release. Correct ? Any tips on feel of weight transfer ?
Hi Ray, Yes I would say that is correct, for a majority I would say it’s an increasing weight shift from the top of the backswing all the way through to finish. A tip would be, from the top of backswing get weight off your right leg by pushing off the inside of the foot, big toe area, with the right knee kicking in too. You need a lateral weight shift then rotation. Too many people have too much rotation too early. Hope that helps and any other questions please buzz over. Kind regards Warren
I've tried this method but cannot get consistency to time the relase, even harder with long irons. Therfore you get variable distance and direction, i'm sure if your a very skilled golfed it may work. Just my experience?
Hi Kieth. Thanks for messaging. I understand the frustration and difficulty. My experiences with layering this onto golfers is to get the transition and plane right coming down. Get this correct and most of the release and timing takes care of itself. I have given many golfers similar feels to do away from the course and/or range, so lots of rehearsal swings in the garden and this has layered over time into their golf swings without thought. I hope other videos on the channel gives you some more. Kind regards Warren
Great tutorial video keep them coming!! I've been holding on through the shot and this video finally shows me how to release the club at impact Thank you VERY, VERY much!!!! 🙂

Thank you so much for coming along. I would say it’s in equal parts, as in an ideal world we aren’t looking for a dominant hand as that would mean there’s a lack of control etc in the other. I think it’s a matter of movement and feeling, not so much power, so training the hands to move would be beneficial to achieve that. But to sway towards one it’s whatever your dominant hand would be, so for me it’s my right. I hope that helps. Regards Warren
Golf advice and politics seem to power TH-cam. I love the DIY videos that show us klutzes how to fix things around the house, plus the fact that although the google gang is far left they still allow anti left comments. Of course many get taken down pretty quickly. I still consider it the premier site on the internet.
Very useful Warren However, how to bring club half way down and then release..I mean, downswing starts at the top, with some momentum. Question is, what to do to retard the force with which the club falls 1/2 way till say knee high..
With a drill that stops we cannot retain the forces so we’re just training one part here. I agree a lot is happening through transition but this is a drill just to practice the release during the impact zone. Hope I understood your question Warren
Hi Shawn, Absolutely, with the ball position more off the left side, it will seem an earlier release but everything stays the same swing wise mainly. Hope that helps. Regards Warren
Ive played against good players that use this old english method, they have to hit balls for an hour to get their timing, if they are on it they can play good but under pressure they can hit a 7 iron anywhere from 150 -180yds,snap hook or push fade their driver and cant hit a 3 wood! they prefer long irons anyway
Thank you for your message and I understand why you say that, but if done correctly the club will do most of the work, so I it will require little effort. Im here to explain what is going on and giving it a reminder. I wish you well and kind regards Warren
Here's the reality, you are showing the 'dumping' of the angle out of your right wrist into the ball, but with proper weight shift/hip clearing that angle is not fully released until after the ball strike - the recentering of the swing because of the weight shift change the arc of the swing - one of the reasons the divot is in front of the ball. Check out the slow motion capture of Sandy Lyle at 9.59 in this video, but countless other pros also have this release pattern caused by the recentering weight shift that they all do : th-cam.com/video/VomzKaBmnZA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=IJWUPCONYXVBYZnv
I get all you say Andrew, but I can’t accommodate it all in one video, so there’s a fine line between posting everything, I’m going by my experience and trying to keep it simple and useable for golfers, there are videos on the channel that explain what you say. Many thanks for your feedback and explanation. Regards Warren
What your teaching sacrifices accuracy. Every good ball striker in history came into the strike with a supinated left wrist and released the club completely 18" beyond the ball. This creates maximum compression. What your teaching will have the average golfer hitting flippy rainbow shots.
Thanks for this and I get why you said it. It really comes down to the swing of the individual and what fault and fix is needed. If the golfer has too much arms and hands in the swing, they will need to feel more body. I would be an example of that, as left to my own devices I tend to overuse my arms or a better explanation underuse my body, so I do tend to focus on my body rotation and trust that my arms and release comes along for the ride. That said I do work on the matching up release of the arms and club from time to time so it’s all a blend. The majority of the clients and golfers we see are the club golfer who needs more distance and speed so this video was focused on that. Many thanks for taking the time out to message and if there’s anything I can help with your golf then please feel free to buzz a message over. Regards Warren
That’s all I can think about. No shaft lean, no body rotation but it’s a drill for one part of the swing…. I watched the rest, that’s how I used to swing to. Leads to some scooping. Hands lead ball. 4/10 video.
It does seem like that but he didn't emphizes that you'll feel like your "releasing" the club out in front of you. Imagine you release that angle he's showing you(hands hip high with club head around your shoulder) but you never break your wrist, as in maintain that your wrists are still straight as they would be if pointed out straight and your mak8ng a fist. To get this ''release feel" feel like you're going to try and throw the club/ let go of it so it hits the ground 10 or 12ft in front of the ball just after you've made contact. Feeling that throwing of the club 10 or 12 ft out in front of you If you've never felt a release like this it will feel like your arms and the club are gonna spin your entire body around in the follow through because you never roll your wrist over atcontact or just after. Wrist are straight and arms are straight point out at the ground. You'll really feel like your whole body is gonna be pulled around but you bend your elbows at the top in the classic finish pose. Hope that makes sense😢 Edited-for better description of "release" feel of the club just after contact
No it’s called releasing the club head. All the pros do it yet hardly anyone actually teaches proper release of the club head, it’s all hold your angles and turn.
@@bhorny1 false, casting happens at the top. you’d be surprised on a launch monitor. I release the club and still have a -3 to 4 attack angle with a 7 iron.

You must be psychic , I got by impact bag out out the corner of the garage yesterday to try and improve my impact position , but this tip is the one I need to hopefully inject some distance into this failing old body. Many thanks , have a great weekend !

Great drill. Can you use that same drill for driver?
Great Drill for Irons. Do you have, or can you make a similar video with a driver and ball teed up?
Excellent video Warren on how to get a proper release and more "SNAP" into the golf swing! I have been working on this very release that you are demonstrating and it is coming along nicely. This video will validate what I am doing and I appreciate it! Thank You! Because of this, I have become a new subscriber to your channel! Well Done!

Great session, makes alot of sense to let the club release. Will try this drill.

Hi Jeff,
Learning new motor skills is always a tricky thing to start, but you’re right to take swings to the garden first to take away the need to have a result on the range/course.
Hope you’re getting on well and all the best.

Whats your resould of the golf course🤔
Not to speak for Warren, but what I think he's saying is that doing something new does not translate into immediate results. So, if I went to the range or course and tried to implement this "new" thing, I may become frustrated if I don't see progress right away.

@@warrenbennettgolfacademy That answers the questions. Thanks for taking the time to respond to such questions.
Just catching up on your videos , this is great and never been taught this release or snap into the ball before ! been working on laying the club more in my down swing but certainly using my body to supply the power as you showed, going to use this drill ,keep well bud.
Hi Dru,
Good to hear from you mate. Yes I think combining the shallow with the release will be good for you. Remember you were always a bit steep so releasing would have been more difficult.
Still a legend tho 🥰

Tommy Fleetwood holds onto that angle for a long time but he is actually so contorted at impact it's probably not sustainable for too long !
Thanks Warren! - could you let me know if rotation also plays a part in the “snap” of just generates a little more power??
Hi Marc,
I would say yes but it’s very personal to the golfer.
Kind regards
Warren
Very good, just what I need.
Maybe I’m thick but I could not find the link to hit and hold drill at end of description.
Edit: just did a search and found it.
This is a great video...thank you. It would be wonderful if you would zero in on the club actually hitting the ball..from many angles. I am still a bit confused on where on the head the club meets the ball...and the angle. Make the whole video on just the face on the ball.
Hi there,
I wish I had the technology! I would need a super slow mo camera for that or a more expensive launch monitor. Unfortunately I don’t have either. Sorry.

Warren
how is this related to the hands forward at impact , it seems like two different things, I'm trying to figure out?
Regards
Warren
Nice drill. Seems a similar aim to what Rory does with splitting his hands apart and doing the first half of the swing.
Absolutely it’s all about getting those hands and club matching up to the body rotation, and agreed Rory likes that split arm drill as he does tend to get a bit stuck occasionally, all be it I would like to get stuck like him!
Many thanks for leaving a comment and great to have you on the channel.

Hi Dave,
Many thanks for the message and appreciated you stopping by the channel.
Online coaching and swing analysis is something I am wanting to start. How about sending a couple of swings to me, down the line and front on and a description of what is going on etc. I don’t know if you can send videos on here, but my number is +447908203118 if you want to send on watsapp?
Hi Warren, would this work for all clubs in the bag?
Yes it can be layered for any club.
Just change your stance for the longer clubs. Especially fairways and driver.
Hope that helps and wishing you well.

just stumbled across this and was shocked .... i've been working on this very thing.... are you psychic??? i recently started choking up on my driver and it feels so much faster through the hitting zone because of what you are covering here... one piece take away with super quiet hands and arms... but taking it to barely parallel ... then starting the downswing with everything but my arms and floating my wrist into a lag position and snap-whipping the club through the hitting zone..... thanks for your content...
Hi Les,
Many thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated mate

Is this the same thought (holding angle in the club) with wedges?
I would say most definitely 👍
I have been working on this and have a question regarding weight transfer. It looks like you are transferring from rear to front foot at the same time as the release. Correct ? Any tips on feel of weight transfer ?
Hi Ray,
Yes I would say that is correct, for a majority I would say it’s an increasing weight shift from the top of the backswing all the way through to finish.
A tip would be, from the top of backswing get weight off your right leg by pushing off the inside of the foot, big toe area, with the right knee kicking in too. You need a lateral weight shift then rotation. Too many people have too much rotation too early.
Hope that helps and any other questions please buzz over.
Kind regards

No body rotation during snaping the bag?
Kind regards
Warren

Just subscribed. Your theory makes so much sense. When your releasing that angle, does it feel like your using a dominant hand or both equally?
Thank you so much for coming along. I would say it’s in equal parts, as in an ideal world we aren’t looking for a dominant hand as that would mean there’s a lack of control etc in the other. I think it’s a matter of movement and feeling, not so much power, so training the hands to move would be beneficial to achieve that. But to sway towards one it’s whatever your dominant hand would be, so for me it’s my right.
I hope that helps.

Golf advice and politics seem to power TH-cam. I love the DIY videos that show us klutzes how to fix things around the house, plus the fact that although the google gang is far left they still allow anti left comments. Of course many get taken down pretty quickly. I still consider it the premier site on the internet.
Very useful Warren
However, how to bring club half way down and then release..I mean, downswing starts at the top, with some momentum. Question is, what to do to retard the force with which the club falls 1/2 way till say knee high..
With a drill that stops we cannot retain the forces so we’re just training one part here. I agree a lot is happening through transition but this is a drill just to practice the release during the impact zone.
Hope I understood your question
Warren
Is this snap swing or lesson applicable to all the clubs but the driver? Thanks
Do you release the same with the driver?
Hi Shawn,
Absolutely, with the ball position more off the left side, it will seem an earlier release but everything stays the same swing wise mainly.
Hope that helps.
Regards
Warren
Does this work with the driver as well Warren?
Yes works with all clubs 👍
Trev! 👍🏿
🐶👍🐾
Ive played against good players that use this old english method, they have to hit balls for an hour to get their timing, if they are on it they can play good but under pressure they can hit a 7 iron anywhere from 150 -180yds,snap hook or push fade their driver and cant hit a 3 wood! they prefer long irons anyway
UK Pro still teaching the Henry Cotton method from the 1950s!
Classic and it still works…👍🏻👍🏻
The problem with this release is it requires incredible timing at full swing speed. This is why weekend golfers don't use it.
Thank you for your message and I understand why you say that, but if done correctly the club will do most of the work, so I it will require little effort. Im here to explain what is going on and giving it a reminder.
I wish you well and kind regards
Warren
Is this considered flipping ?

Warren
Been told by other youtube golf instructors not to hold onto angles, confusing.
It all depends, but this is really for the golfer who has lost angle etc
Warren looks like that L to L drill
isnt your lead arm angle too great seems too far away from your chest, Otherwise looks reasonable
Is Trev his imaginary friend? 😅
What your teaching sacrifices accuracy. Every good ball striker in history came into the strike with a supinated left wrist and released the club completely 18" beyond the ball. This creates maximum compression. What your teaching will have the average golfer hitting flippy rainbow shots.
You need your chest more open at impact.
No. Only if you want to get stuck and flippy. In a true swing the body reacts to the swing, focusing on the body is a recipe for disaster.
Regards
Warren
@@warrenbennettgolfacademywhat a class act u are Warren. A true gentleman...
Isn’t this technically flipping your wrists ?
Hope that makes sense😢
Edited-for better description of "release" feel of the club just after contact
No it’s called releasing the club head. All the pros do it yet hardly anyone actually teaches proper release of the club head, it’s all hold your angles and turn.
@@chadillac1127 disagree that’s a cast. Needs shaft lean. Dynamic loft needs to be working negative not positive.
@@bhorny1 false, casting happens at the top. you’d be surprised on a launch monitor. I release the club and still have a -3 to 4 attack angle with a 7 iron.
This is the golf swing PERIOD. Erase all other videos from your mind.

This is ok for getting a lil more from a weak swing. This isn't for better swings. Just kno your swing and only use what feels right to you.
