  • Welcome to the WBGA TH-cam channel.
    I really appreciate you taking the time out and stopping by, I know everyone’s time is limited, so thank you so much.
    One of the tricky areas of the swing, transition. What you’re looking for is a down in the downswing. This drill will help you achieve this and give you the feelings too.
    Watching, liking and even sharing is amazing, but if you’d like to go the extra yards by becoming a member of the academy, this would help me a great deal in keeping the wheels turning and getting me on the mat.
    Have a great week.
    Many thanks
    Warren

    Years ago, I remember seeing David Toms, an American professional, tuck the sleeve of his golf shirt into his lead armpit and keeping it there as he swung the club. Feeling that bit of pressure has helped me get that “Justin Rose” feeling of the lead arm sliding down my chest.

    (Larry San Diego) I just came across your "Vertical Drop" video and it was a real eye opener for someone who is best described for over 25 years as a "Over The Topper" golfer who has been stuck in the low 90's for years. I do have time being retired to do your suggested drill and I am hoping it helps my early extension as well
    Thanks, Warren

    Great video. I'm 72 and have been struggling with my swing for 10 years at least. This one lesson has had the greatest positive impact on my swing than any other I've watched. Swinging over the top and releasing my wrist to early have plagued my swing. Although I might hit a few good ones in a row, a really bad shot would soon follow. This lesson has helped with my consistency and power and also is a lot less stressful on my body. Thanks again.

    64 yrs old, 4 index. So happy to find your channel and enjoy the way you teach the feeling of the swing rather than just technical p4, p6, etc positions. Unfortunately, I grew up where the "reverse C" was the picture-perfect swing. Also, being taught that the hands must absolutely be the last thing to move on the downswing. This video isn't the first I've seen on the vertical drop, but certainly one of the best. Especially the part about doing it in slow motion... it can be hard to train that.
    I've had a bit more than over the top- it's more like HIT from the top, like I can't wait to hit the ball. But if I can wait for the hands to come down a bit before I rotate, the results are fantastic. Just takes quite a few reps to train and feel that motion, as you said. Thanks so much for devoting your time sharing your knowledge about the swing, it's so much appreciated. I'm looking forward to catching up on your past ones that I've missed and seeing the new ones I hope you keep posting.

    After watching videos of my swing I noticed that the first move in transition was a slight forward movement (towards the ball) of my right shoulder, causing the club to become more vertical and creating an out to in swing path. To avoid that initial move I just started dropping/lowering my arms in transition. Instant cure. Watching your video has now solidified my thinking. My ball flight has turned from a fade to a consistent draw. Great video! I’m now a subscriber to your channel.

    You have certainly described my swing issues! I have tried this "drop down" exercise before but the tendency to swing out and over the top always comes back. I video my practice and I can't tell you how many times my first couple of swings at the range looked and felt good, but then the remaining 90% of the session was the "old" swing. I'd go home thinking that I'd made good progress, but when I watched the video it was the same old story. I'm going to take your advice and do the SLOW drill for the entire practice and see if it really can become "muscle memory". Thanks for the encouragement!!

    • @warrenbennettgolfacademy
      @warrenbennettgolfacademy  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Don, thanks very much for your message and I understand your frustration of probably what you’re feeling and what you’re actually seeing are two different things, that can be very hard sometimes. Having an over the top full is one of the hardest moves to cure as you’re dealing with an area of the swing like I say in many of the videos, that’s putting the most pressure on the shaft and the clubhead so putting more down in the downswing is always going to be more difficult than say, changing a backswinging where there’s no speed and pressures on it or much less anyway.
      I really do encourage you to really do slow motion swings, even if you hit the ball 20 yards, and then work your speeds up to say six or 7 out of 10 and see any differences there. Then you can build the swing through repetition is the key. The good and bad news is an over the top swinging is not something that you can completely change overnight due to what I mentioned earlier in the message, it’s something that must come in slower increments and other areas of the swing. There are other factors like the backswing that helps it too..
      I wish you well in your journey and if you have any other questions, please don’t hesitate to buzz them over to me.
      Kind regards
      Warren

    Thanks for the amazing video. The drill to get the arms to drop is excellent to build memory. But even more helpful for me is to turn the hips afterwards! Concentrating on turning on the backswing and downswing created severe faults in my swing.

    Cheers Warren, I need to get on my mat and net at home again and work on drills. I have been going to the range a lot more over the last couple of weeks and I feel I’ve got control over a few areas but the connection with arms and body needs some more work. Better get back to drills at home! I do love your drill halfway back in backswing to halfway through on follow through, and keeping head down. That’s really helped me keep my right elbow tighter to body in downswing and generally keeping width in my swing, that’s a real doozie of a drill! Cheers mate

One important thing, though...I noticed that your kept your back facing the target while you dropped your hands and arms down to the trail pocket. It wasn't until I incoporated this that I began to have some good results.

    I've been working very hard on take away, position at the top, etc. Very much looking forward to tomorrow's video practice. My over the top is only, maybe four inches but I notice my left arm is nowhere near pinned to my chest....which probably leads to a consistent chicken wing....even as a 9 handicap. Aim for the pocket, arm pinned to the chest.....and don't try so darn hard. That is my goal tomorrow. Thanks....from a Tiger baseball fan in Michigan.

      @ yeah I love making the videos, we are into our last two weeks of work before the Christmas vacation, we stripped one of the tea decks and that’s gonna be a big job with only a couple staff left on hand
      I’m really excited for next year, I am going to buy one of those selfie sticks for my golfing videos and my buddy Dave is going to come out with his drone and we are going to try and ramp it up a notch, I’d love to talk sometime about how you do your video production because I’d love to learn how to get it a little bit better
      Really sorry to hear about your phone, I went to a friend of mine 70th birthday last night and oh my goodness didn’t I run out of data on my phone 😂. 5 days left til the reset for the phone for next month
      Take care and talk soon

      Yeah phones a bummer, only a few things I miss, mainly connection with YT comments etc.
      Saw the reno on the tee looks great but I’m sure a lot of work!

    I've tried this vertical drop exercise drill from other coaches on Y-T, but all I manage to do is consistently have toe strikes. I hope your drill makes a difference.

    • @warrenbennettgolfacademy
      @warrenbennettgolfacademy  หลายเดือนก่อน

      This can happen Dennis, two things really.
      1. Do you need to do it? Being too inside coming in to the ball will give you toe strikes.
      2. If you do need to work on being more inside because you’ve been say too OTT, you may need to feel your hands and club releasing away from you, feeling of hitting right. Because if you’re steep and out coming down, you’re probably used to cutting across the ball and if you do that release from this drill position, you’re probably used will always toe strike it.
      Hard to k ow for sure but hope that can help.

    I have been watching your videos on an off for a while, and you have been so admit about shallowing. Laying the club down was the reason you started the academy. Now you are teaching this? What should a person be trying to achieve for a neutral swing that doesn't have to many extremes? This hand drop from the inside swing or hands out shallow swing.

    • @warrenbennettgolfacademy
      @warrenbennettgolfacademy  17 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Hi Nathan, thanks for the good question. I would always favour the hands out/shallow move, but in my experience this is more for the elite golfer, or/and it needs quite a lot of continued practice. So when I do these videos I always say it’s an elite move.
      For the club golfer and especially the one that is over the top and steep, I always favour for this drill, much more user friendly and easier to grasp.
      Hope that makes sense and answers your question.

    Great drill. Did you say don’t practice this drill with longer clubs? If so, is there a reason?

    • @warrenbennettgolfacademy
      @warrenbennettgolfacademy  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hi there, you definitely can do it with longer clubs but I feel the instinct is too strong sometimes when doing it with say a 5i or driver, to try and hit it too hard and do too big a pump, because the golfer feels they have to create more speed to get the ball in the air. Hence more loft. If you can avoid these pitfalls, by all means it’s very beneficial for all clubs.
      I hope this helps

      Hi Paul, thanks for the message and the follow. Yeah I k ow what you mean, still trying to master that one! The waffle meter can go high sometimes! But on the other side of the coin, things and especially the golf swing isn’t as easy as just change or do that, there’s always consequences behind the action and where it can lead to etc. so I try and cover those eventualities too. But I am aware of trying to not repeat or go on but that is a bit of my personality.
      Thanks very much Paul

    Warren the concept of "pressure" coming down you and also Cowan have revealed is very fasinating. I have been pondering the true meaning of this "pressure". Can you help us clearly understand it?

    • @warrenbennettgolfacademy
      @warrenbennettgolfacademy  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Carl, it will be a very long message to explain the concept. A very skimmed explanation is it’s a combination of movements of the legs, torso, and arms/hands that pressurises the club. It’s all a combination, but this drill shows how the arms help with this pressure, but doesn’t explain the movements of the torso and legs. I have a video coming out in a couple of weeks explaining a little more on this.
      Thanks for your message

      Hi Gary, yes I agree, the shifting definitely is one of the influences behind the drop down move of the arms and club, as explained in previous videos, especially the recent one, Shift & Separate. This is a drill to give the the arms and club a big reminder to behave as sometimes, if the OOT move is extreme, it needs a big nudge.
      Many thanks

    Hi warren I keep watching this video it is so good,my club slips and turns do you think I am holding it to loose about 3or4 out of 10 I slice the ball that is why I like this video,thank you so much 👍🏌🏿‍♂️

    • @warrenbennettgolfacademy
      @warrenbennettgolfacademy  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Richard, it could be grip pressure, it may be caused by off centred strikes, toe strikes being one of the main causes for club head twisting at impact. If you’re a slicer that can happen as the club cuts across the ball, so hopefully this drill can help. You can check club face strikes by spraying on impact spray or even if you slightly dampen the face, do this only on a range though.
      Hope this helps and wishing you well.

    Thanks for this tip but when do we shift to our lead foot in the downswing..before or after dropping the arms?

    • @warrenbennettgolfacademy
      @warrenbennettgolfacademy  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I would encourage before, the shifting is always the steering wheel behind the drop, but golfers who have swung it OTT for a while or it’s quite exaggerate, this is a specific drill to train the arms the correct move.
      Many thanks
      Warren
