    as someone who recently retired and also practices a lot into a net at my home, while my dog is nearby also, I absolutely love your informative golf videos !!!....and speaking as someone who discovered how to " let the club drop behind me " while in the very beginning of the downswing, this move has absolutely vanished my driver slice ...thanks much for the great practice drill !!! ......

    Went to Ian for quite a few years. Great coach and inspiration, pushing you to shoot for the stars. Coached Faldo from junior to European no1 and had a massive impact as a mentor to him.

      Thanks for the message Russel.

    Nothing but thanks to this man! This drill is "gold" and I've tried to get this "feel" without hearing this detailed explanation. BTW, I didn't know about the teaching with Faldo, it just enhances his teaching credibility.

    What a great drill for most of us amateurs. Warren, you explain the feels better than anyone I've seen and I've seen many. Nice shout out for Ian, who I knew all about following Faldo's career. Many thanks again.

    I've always had trouble "staying behind the ball". As I do the drills at the start of this reform program, I'm sensing formation and the strength of a solid structure of hands and arms that I can release with gravity's help. TY Warren!

    Excellent video. This drill also helps to pin the right heel to the ground, stopping the right knee from kicking out.

    • @warrenbennettgolfacademy
      @warrenbennettgolfacademy  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Mike, yes it will as it encourages to layer a softer more passive sequence that way. Eventually it will and should be pulled in halfway down when rotation starts, but in transition this will definitely encourage a quieter knee.
      Many thanks for taking the time out to message.

    Like someone else who commented I was taught at the top of the backswing imagine your holding a tray of drinks and then pulling the club down like ringing a bell. Maybe that contributed to my casting which I’ve fought for years. Great explanation Warren of what the club should be doing. Thank you

    had my right wrist surgically repaired and can’t quite get it flat on its own however if I apply a little pressure from left hand it’s ok. Does this application of some force with left hand ( for a righty player) cause other issues? sorry if a dumb ? but I’ve learned that with golf the small things sometimes matter…..thanks for the time and effort you give to us….it’s greatly appreciated

  • @DASH1ful
    @DASH1ful 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Well, i can't really see the point of that; but, having said that i do get your point. Terry Westbrook was the pioneer of the drinks tray drill. He played on the european tour from 1963 to '73; and, was very much a mentor of david leadbetter. Terry actually told me to face my right palm up in the takeaway, which is a bit silly. And, whilst i very much doubt the effectiveness of your drill, i would agree that the hands should re-rotate in the start of the downswing. This is very evident in hogan's power golf. In the driver face on photographs we can see his club is shut at the top (which it shouldn't be) and, two sequences on into the downswing his clubface is open. But, he doesn't do this by twirling his hands about. And, i always say: if you can't spot hogan's secret in hogan's swing you will be able to spot it in Bobby Jones' swing.
    But, one simple exercise you can do, to ensure that your right arm moves correctly, is to just simply position your right elbow in front of your hand, swing back; and, then just simply put your left hand on the club in the follow thru. Everything will fall into place. It's that simple.

    This is brilliant Warren. I was once told by our then pro, David Thorpe, to imagine a tray of drinks in right hand at top of back swing, to prevent over the top / slice swing.
    Your suggestion here.....could be a winner in preventing the dreaded shanks....yes?
    I watched the Moe Norman swing videos some time ago....fascinating he could hit so many balls so straight!!

      I will do a part two definitely by the end of the month. The original video, one of the very early ones I did do all of it.

    I was excited to try this drill but got frustrated quickly when I couldn’t square up the club face and it was wide open every time. It would be great to see a quick video of how the club face gets square when it’s facing the sky on the drop. Even if it’s a couple clicks like you say I cannot get it square. Thanks

    • @warrenbennettgolfacademy
      @warrenbennettgolfacademy  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Brian, having a passive release can be frustrating so sorry to hear that, hitting shots or just swinging with feet together can really promote an educated arm and hand swing which can help.
      I will do a release video during July.

    Hi, I'm already struggling closing the clubface. Won't this drill lead to opening the clubface even more? Wouldn't it be better to do the same drill but having the tray vertical rather than horizontal?

  • @steveperry1344
    @steveperry1344 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    so with this move it's like you are opening the club way up which is what i've been fighting for 50 years. maybe that's why i feel like i kinda get tangled up, stuck and hit blocks and pulls at times. gonna try it thnx.

    • @warrenbennettgolfacademy

      Doing it this extreme yes it is too open, but the golfer I’m talking to mainly is the over the topper, and like I mention in the video, it will never get to this amount and will need to feel extreme to get an element layered into the swing.
