    Lyrics:
    I had to escape
The city was sticky and cruel
Maybe I should have called you first
But I was dying to get to you
I was dreaming while I drove the long straight road ahead, uh-huh, yeah
Could taste your sweet kisses, your arms open wide
This fever for you was just burning me up inside
    Crying to get to you
    Is that all right?
    Crying, crept in your room
Woke you from your sleep to make love to you
    Is that all right?
    Crying

I was listening to this the other day and thought it is really timeless like a lot of Roy's work, I think dementia is timeless in a way. It is such a powerful and emotional song, i wonder if that has any relevance.

I was a little boy, when I came down the steps in the middle of the night to get a drink and saw my father and mother dancing to this song. I stopped when I got to the bottom and watched. I can never remember being any happier as a little boy, when I went to bed. I have never heard this song, after that night without thinking of how my father was looking at my mother. they both loved Roy. 😎

I went to a Roy Orbison Concert in 1964, and only a couple hundred people were there.
There he stood, on stage, black suit, skinny, in horned rim glasses and the sound system was not that great. But when Roy Orbison opened his mouth a bad sould system didn't matter. He stood there and sang hit after hit, including "Crying", nothing moving except his lips and fingers on the guitar.
It was a fantastic performance, by the best. It's a wonderful memory. I'll never forget the concert I attended and saw and heard live the great Roy Orbsison when his voice was at its peak.

I've read that he was surprised by his success. When he did the "Black and White Night" album, all the other musicians (who were ALL very talented in their own right) would say "Oh, wow! That's Roy Orbison". He was deeply humbled.
Dwight Yoakum (sp?) once said Roy's voice sounded like an "angel falling backward through a broken window".

I'm 68 and was blessed to grow up listening to his beautiful voice and haunting songs when my generation thought the Beatles were IT. Elvis said he had the greatest voice he ever heard, and Roy said he had a 2 1/2 octive range baritone voice. When I listen to the junk of generations who came after Roy I feel so sorry for the people who never heard voices and music like this great legend!

Last night while flipping through TV channels I came across a Roy Orbison documentary on my local PBS station which brought back memories. Back in the summer of 1988 myself and a friend went to Great Woods in MA (which is now the Xfinity Center) to see The Beach Boys. Roy Orbison was the opening act. I knew of his music and amazing voice but seeing him perform live in person was just amazing! I’m grateful to have seen him perform live because in December of that year he passed away at the young age of 52 from a heart attack 😢😢. I remember reading the sad news of his passing and still have the Rolling Stone magazine edition with him on the cover after his death. One thing that struck me while watching his documentary was an interview with his wife Barbara, she was asked how Roy would like to be remembered. She said “Roy would say I just want to be remembered “. I will remember you Mr. Orbison, thank you for the memory. RIP sir.
This is my favorite song by Roy. The Black and White concert must have been incredible to see in person with all these amazing musicians. Elvis Costello, Bruce Springsteen, Jackson Brown, Bonnie Rait, kd Lang, Tom Waits, T-Bone Burnett, JD Souther, Jennifer Warnes and of course Roy himself.

As a newly recovering addict, this song speaks truth to me. Though the lyrics speak of unrequited love, I reflect upon them my powerlessness in resisting temptation. There's a hole in my life, and though it's better covered up, there's no direct way to fill it in. All us destructors with any conscience live with remorse, and grow from it day by day. But everybody needs to cry eventually.

Was fortunate enough to see Roy live in the early '80s. We were in a venue that held close to two thousand fans. I'm pretty sure most of us were wondering if he "still had it" considering his age at the time. Let me tell you when he hits those unbeleivable notes as crystal clear as we all remembered the entire house held it's collective breath and when the moment came everyone erupted in jublient cheers. I thank the Lord that I lived in the time when I was privilaged enough to know, hear and wonder at the voice of Roy Orbison. RIP, Roy, you left us much too soon.

My dad was a mega-fan (born in 1944) and he tried so hard to get his music-loving little daughter to fawn over Orbison as well. He failed back then because I thought Jim Morrison and Eric Burdon ruled the world. Of course, by the time I was 20 I understood.
