Back in June 1980 in a night club I heard this song play and I happened to see this gorgeous lady on the other side of the dance floor. I plucked up the courage and asked her to dance and to my disbelief she said yes. It was the most magical moment in my life to even think this lady would dance with me. Almost 42 years later and I still pinch myself every morning when I wake to realise this class act has stuck with me all these years.
Don Mclean is so underrated. One of the greatest lyrics writers of all time. Vincent and American Pie are both masterpieces. And his voice is so pure even Roy Orbison preferred this version.

Hello 👋 Dennis How're you doing, it's been a long journey, and I'm nothing without amazing fans like you who appreciate my musical craftiness, All love to you and yours ❤️
Don McLean sold millions and millions of records BUT for me was and is absolutely under-rated as a performer, singer and writer, not to mention his amazing 'folk' talents that we ignored after his huge success
How is he under-rated? He is regarded as one of the greatest American singer song writers of his era...his songs are considered standards. Many of his songs were played all over the radio dial for decades, and his music can be found in music books everywhere. American Pie is considered one of the greatest pop songs of all time, it sold an insane number of copies, and Vincent is widely acclaimed as well. He certainly is not under-rated. He is widely recognized and celebrated.

Don McLean covered the song, taking it to No. 5 on the hot 100 in early 1981, No. 2 on adult contemporary, No. 6 on country, and No. 1 on the UK Singles Chart. It appeared on his 1978 album, Chain Lightning.

I saw Roy live at the Surf Nantasket in Scituate Mass. Thank you, Arnie Ginsburg of WMEX 1510 Boston. My Mom was a car hop at The Adventure Car Hop and Arnie's "Night Train Show" was the sponsor. Free tickets to my first sox hop ever at about 14 or so. I wanted to see Chris Jensen sing "Torture". I did and then the surprise Arnie had mentioned came on and started with "Only the Lonely". I knew the Voice but not the Roy Orbison name. He was A6 on the juke box at the Pioneer restaurant in Salem. I'm 75 now and Don Mclean nailed "Crying" before it was released to the Ten Ten of my youth. Had to learn to Love Sun Records as I got older. Some will understand that comment Don, some won't. His version of Since I don't have you is also sensational. Songs like this and Vincent, And I love you so and Castles in the air will forever be in my heart. What an amazing musical artist. For me is he one the greatest musicians ever
Hi there
Thanks for your love and support that has brought me this far, it has been a hard time for me going through this but your love and support keeps me going and standing strong in this difficult times. I do read your heartwarming comments and I truly appreciate all you’ve done for me throughout the years.
It’s a season of love😍❤️❤️ for me and so I decided to put a smile on the faces of my fans by going through my TH-cam channel and checking out on my fans, so I can get to communicate with my fans better through discussion of depth and humor listening to o and criticism of my career.💞💞🙏💖💕...
Crossroads is great too.
WOW this version took my breath away
Hello Cassy, How are you doing?
gosh, you can really feel the emotion in Don's voice throughout the whole song.
Esse homem canta divinamente, música incrível maravilhosa.❤
Clássico eterno, uma das mais lindas canções de todos os tempos, parabéns, Don Mcclean
Lyrics
I was alright for a while
I could smile for a while
But when I saw you last night
You held my hand so tight
When you stopped to say 'hello'
And though you wished to me well
You couldn't tell
That I'd been
Crying over you
Crying over you
Then you said to so long
Left me standing all alone
Alone and crying.
Crying
Crying
Crying
It's hard to understand
That the touch of your hand
Can start me crying
I thought that I was over you
But it's true, so true
I love you even more than I did before
But, darling, what can I do?
While you don't love me
And I'll always be
Crying over you
Crying over you
Yes, now you're gone
And from this moment on
I'll be crying
(Crying)
Crying
(Crying)
Crying
(Crying)
Crying over you
Over you
Over you
Cwying...
Cwying...
Cwying...
Foi visitando, percorrendo o TH-cam que encontrei essa linda canção internacional, na belíssima voz de Don McLean..
O M G...This is the first time I have heard his version of this song. What a voice!!!

+Rebacca Josefina - YOU FORGOT TO MENTION THAT HE DIDN'T WRITE THIS SONG - I BELIEVE IT IS A ROY ORBISON SONG, IF I REMEMBER CORRECT.........
IT IS, HERE'S WHAT WIKI SAYS......
"Crying" is a ballad written by Roy Orbison and Joe Melson that was a hit for Orbison.
Don McLean covered the song, taking it to No. 5 on the hot 100 in early 1981, No. 2 on adult contemporary, No. 6 on country, and No. 1 on the UK Singles Chart. It appeared on his 1978 album, Chain Lightning.

2023, how have I not heard this before? He's amazing!
Wow. Just wow. This was fantastic . I've only ever heard Roy Orbiston sing this.
Totally unrealistic song. What human female would leave Don McLean?
His wife after he beat the shit out of her in Maine apparently.
poetcomic1 I agree.
poetcomic1 right!
Girls who think he looks like Ted Bundy maybe?
Sorry I read that :( damn .... really ?
The BEST version!
Cwying. Only fools' fans will get it 😆
Do you really include Roy's..?
Tony Angelino!
Eterna.
I just sweep up and make the tea!
That is the best version: th-cam.com/video/eO8R1w8qrgo/w-d-xo.html
Belissima musica saudades da minha adolesencia meus quinze anos hoje estou com 55 anos e curto uma boa musica que marcou minha vida
Master piece !
And the best live male vocal performance ever goes to... Don McClean for "Crying"
mot a patch on Roy Orbison
Have you ever heard of Roy Orbison the person who perfected not only this song but vocals as a whole
@@dylansmith1652 Roy was great, but this is the version that I always heard on the radio...its the best version that I've heard, although Katy Lang did a great job too.
I don't know if it's the best ever, but it's close. There's a simply stunning live version of the Righteous Brothers' "Unchained Melody" that might be as good as this. It's here: th-cam.com/video/IYj2hex99gY/w-d-xo.html
I felt like this after a woman I loved with my whole heart broke it. Never again.
Don is an unprecedented American poet. His writing is awesome and his performances never leave your memory. Saw him on the old Howard Stern show when he finished "Vincent" and told everyone to go back to their computers. He is a Real Man. No quiche in his life. Some people will know what I'm saying. Move on, Don.
Randall, Roy Orbison wrote this song not Don McLean.
you must know he didn't write this song.
I do. Young people are sheep and gutless
Great lyricist, but underrated performer. Love Don McLean, a great artist.
Tolle Stimme.
Danke auch Heute noch
Inja Juni 2024.
He's one of the few who can sing this song well. He knocks it out of the park at the end. He's wonderfully talented. I think Roy would give him the nod.
Bless you Mr McLean. Thank you for another amazing song.
Beautiful song I miss you mum and Dad I wish you were here 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

Nooo! i'm so sorry :(
He looks abit like Chevy Chase.
You've got to be kidding !!! Don McLean looks way better !!!
Exactly what hit the back of my mind, and undeniable resemblance
there is something of Chevy Chase, but he is more handsome,. Partly it is the hair, oh the 70's, fashhion and style was so exceptional,!!!! I know, I was there.
It is.
His eyes
K D Land has a wonderful emotional rendition of Crying .... It is the most powerful I have ever heard ....
They are all different ... each has something good to take from

Hello 👋 sarah
How're you doing.
Thanks for this comment, I'm nothing without fans like you who appreciate my musical craftiness
It's nice meeting you here.
Thanks for your Mastery of Music my friend!

I just love this song.....words so touching and realistic......of what happens to any of us after we say good bye!!!!!
Magnífico! Obrigado pela postagem!!
This version is amazing! Spectacular!!!!❤❤❤❤
That upright bass didn’t add much but Don’s voice was and always will be a gem.
Essa canção toca na alma ❤
I love Don Mclean...great voice and many great songs and covers. Solo is of my favorite live albums. The only disappointment is some of the overly orchestral, 'syrupy' arrangements he has released of his work. But alone with an acoustic guitar, it doesn't get much better.
Some voice amazing pitch
🌻🇧🇷
Who remembers "Crying" by Roy Orbison - the original . . . . ?
" " " (in Spanish) - from the film "Mulholland Drive"?
Stupendous performance of a beautiful song. Don McLean has a world-class, all-star voice--and the intelligence to use it properly.
perfectly said , intelligence music, for "the Few" that understand real feelings and aint afraid to show them , Don profoundly changed my life, got to know him in the earlier part of my life while travelling thru Canada RussellBradford Banks in Roswell New Mexico, retired cowboy/ range detective
Don stole my heart with AmericanPie and has it always, love him!!!
Belíssima música, muitas recordações!❤
Just broke up with my boyfriend and listening to this beautiful rendition by Don McLean , I'm crying too
Hope you find love again :) cheers
Don McClean is one of our favorite musicians, artist poet.
He is in a league of his own.

I love it when a new show opens you up to new music you’d normally not listen to or know about. Thanks to mindhunter I discovered this great song taken to another level by Don Mclean
The most underrated singer of all time. Thank you for sharing your talent with the world sir.
I remember in 1980 listening to this and thinking how much of a grown ups song it was. Forty two years later and i understand exactly what he was singing about.
