    Great video and thanks for not having an annoying 5 minute intro and just hopping right into it.

    Thank you! Your video was excellent! There were a couple of steps that I wasn't expecting and your video walked me through it perfectly. This was one of the best Do-It-Yourself videos I've encountered.

    Great job on the video. I'm glad I watched before doing my brakes. I'm sure it saved me some time trying to figure them out. There were a few things different on these that I haven't seen before and I've done brake jobs on many different cars over the past 40 years. Thank you sir

    Thanks, your front video was so good it made me look like I knew what I was doing. One thing I did on the rear was measure the thickness of the pads and new rotar . Then after turning down the piston on the caliper measured it between the piston and the opposite side. Then everything went together so smoother and nice.

    Good video thanks
    Rear torque... The torque for the guide pins is 21 ft./lbs. and the caliper bracket bolts should be tightened to 55 ft. /lbs.
    The tool for pushing back the piston can be found on EBay for about $20 to $30usd.
    8milelake D00608R disc brakes caliper wind back tool
    Or
    OEMtools 27111
    Either will work I believe for multiple cars.

    For anyone's information, the Powerstop (I'm installing the KOE126 now) rear pads come with loose springs which must be spares to the ones already on the inside pads. Don't freak out about spare parts, I did.

    Great vid. Can use the tips of a pair of cheap tin-snips to compress and twist the cylinder if you didn't obtain the proper tool.

    I think you should emphasize cleaning the moving surfaces for the brake pads to run on and use some silicon grease (sparingly) on those surfaces. l t also would have been helpful to say whether the pistons turn in clockwise or anti since my tool kit offers both options. The caliper should be supported when loose to avoid overstressing the flex hose.

    If you back off the handbrake adjustment and remove cable from caliper, there is no need to struggle and "work off" the caliper

    I have a rattle in my back wheel and I suspect it's coming from my brake pads just from the research I've done. Do you know why it would be rattling? I had the car inspected at Mazda when I got it but they didn't mention them, but I did have my normal mechanic look at something else and he said something wasn't attached to the brakes correctly but that it would be ok. Have you heard of anything like that?

    Great video. What were the torque specs for all the bolts?

    • @Curling_Rack
      @Curling_Rack 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      55 to 65 ft/lbs on caliper bracket mount screws
      20-25 ft/lbs (hand tight) for the caliper guide pins

    Hi. Can you please explain why my traction control is acting up (engaging & light on while driving on the road in good driving conditions) and there is a clicking/something loose sound in my rear tires now that I've just had my rear brakes changed on my 2013 Mazda 3.

    • @ontarioautos9476
      @ontarioautos9476  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It could be related with a wheel speed sensor that may have gotten damaged or bumped out of operating range when the brakes were being worked on. As far as the clicking it could be either a loose caliper or loose mounting bracket. Those are know to come loose if they are not properly tightened. I would take it back to the shop that did the work and ask that they check all the bolts are tight, and in addition if they could have a look at the traction control issue.

    Just FYI next time try using a pair of needle nose pliers to do the piston instead of renting a tool. just a suggestion

  • @Gedvondur

    WIll the rear pistons self adjust? or do you need to somehow 'gauge' the level to bring them back to? And is there an alternative device that can be used to screw in the piston? Are both side pistons tightened the same way? Clockwise?
    thanks!

    • @ontarioautos9476
      @ontarioautos9476  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes they do once you step on the brakes a few times. They just need to be set back in to allow for the new pads thickness. And yes I believe there are other tools you can use needle nose pliers but its very tricky so you are best to just rent the tool from an autoparts store. Yes they are, you will be able to see it turning in if you are going the correct way.

    Can you just change the pads without changing rotors?

    • @AreaThirteenThirteen
      @AreaThirteenThirteen 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would say yes, if the rotors aren't warped/cracked and if they didnt get damaged from metal to metal contact due to the old pads being completely gone.

  • @edoliva5984
    @edoliva5984 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I had the mechanic changed the rear pads on a Mazda 3 2011 and for some reason the inner pads sort of get loose an rattle when going over speed bumps and uneven roads. Any reason why the inner pads keep getting loose?

    • @ontarioautos9476
      @ontarioautos9476  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Could be a couple of things. I believe there is a spring clip in the rear to put some tension on the pads and prevent rattles, that could be missing or not installed correctly. It could also be a cheap or wrong part. Or the pad itself may not be correctly installed. I believe there are also thin shims on the back of the pads that help prevent rattles and squeals. You could check those things and if nothing seems to be out of the ordinary I would take it back and have them look over it.

    snap on wrench but no torque wrench use? sad

    • @drpepper3726
      @drpepper3726 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just did my brakes and rotors on my 3 yesterday, no I don't have the experience to guage 18 ft lbs on the slide, and 85 ft lbs on the bracket to knuckle. Thus I used a torque wrench.

    • @TheChrisWard01
      @TheChrisWard01 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Dr. Pepper You know, it's important to know what you're talking about, before criticizing someone else's method. You came to this video because you don't know how to do a simple brake job, you can't really leave a stupid comment thinking they need to be torqued to spec.

    • @drpepper3726
      @drpepper3726 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Listen, I am very new to wrenching on my car. I obtained the service manual for my car and looked up the brakes. It provided info on the proper torque specs. Im sure if I changed brakes 100 times I wont need it at that point.

    • @TheChrisWard01
      @TheChrisWard01 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dr. Pepper You clearly missed my point. Hey, good for you, we all start somewhere and there's no shame in that. But don't come onto someone else's video, and try to point out flaws, when you aren't informed enough to know any better.

    • @drpepper3726
      @drpepper3726 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I understand sorry. Not my intention. So you dont use torque wrenches at all for anything? Educate me, I am just trying to learn.
