Malefic gravekeepers was my local tournament deck back in the day. It's so fun. It was less jank though since it was more on the gravekeeper end. Necrovalley was and still is a power house
I recall once building a deck with meklords, karakuri, malefic, machina and the geartown gadjiltron, I called it mekarasinchinatown (malefic is called sin in Japanese)
I think at this point ultimate offering was at three, so there was a nuttyy combo in Gravekeeper's where you can normal summon Recruiter and commandant, tribute Recruiter to pop a card, Recruiter search Recruiter, and loop until you pop four cards. Really nutty in a slower paced format like this.
I'm still surprised that Worms never got a poly of their own, one with either a miracle or a future effect, or something like Void Imagination since Worm Zero is not that bad despite being so old
It's probably because it was pretty early in Yugioh's history, comparatively, and never really that relevant. How many people do you know in 2022 who know what Worms are? Heros aside, I think Gem Knights were the first real archetype to get a slew of archetype specific fusion spells. And they were also not super relevant to a lot of the playerbase as a whole whereas Heros were relevant to anyone who had seen any episode of GX.
Watching this right now at this particular time is appropriate kind of since Paradox will be the next character in Duel Links so hopefully we’ll get Malefic Cyber End Dragon and the other Malefic monster left that we don’t have
