I generally root for the rogue's gallery instead of Cimoooo in all of these different series shows. However, MBT is right, Cimooo does get more flack for misplays because we see his hand. Kudos to you Cimoooo.
Colossal Fighter should work as we're under MR1. Necrovalley doesn't get its extreme rule changing until later. In MR1, anything that can "recur itself" is unaffected by necrovalley, which includes cards like treeborn frog, sinister serpent, twin headed behemoth, colossal Fighter, etc.
Bottomless does not send the monster to the GY before banishing it. It's a weird card. It destroys the monster and banishes it after destroying it, but these 2 actions are considered simultaneous. For the purpose of this interaction, the commandant would have still been banished
The weird part about it is that it can banish multiple mosnters summoned atthe sametime, not that it banishes upon destruction. That second part makes nso much sense.

Here are today’s illegal actions/clarifications: 19:49 Regardless of which Necrovalley errata they are using, it wouldn’t affect Bottomless Trap Hole. Despite Skill Drain being up, at the time of resolving, Caius was no longer face-up on the field but instead was resolving from the GY. This means that its effect will work, and its target (Torrential Tribute) should be banished, not sent to the GY Conclusion: These didn’t matter. As many comments stated, Cimo could have easily won Game 1 due to having access to Book of Moons, flipping Colossal Fighter, attacking over it with his buffed up Gravekeeper’s due to Necrovalley, and then Colossal Fighter not being able to come back due to Necrovalley. @@randybrayshaw9070 The errata they are using, which you can hear them state at the 19:43 mark states "Negate the effects of Spells, Traps, and Effect Monsters that target a card(s) in either player's Graveyard. As you said in your comment, Colossal Fighter does in fact "target" a card in the Graveyard. By the errata they are using, MBT would not have been able to target Colossal Fighter in the GY to bring it back. anyone else played yugioh during this format, just not competitively yet? I was a 13 year old life-long fan of the show and just learned about sleeves.
TBF that thing has gotten errata'd so many times it's hard to remember which effect it's on (although they looked up that exact version earlier). There was a time when it negated cards that "moved a card in the Graveyard to a different place, except itself" too (and the "except itself" got removed later)
One thing I wish they would talk more about is that limited is almost unique to Yu-Gi-Oh( MTG even stole it down the road for vintage as far as I know), and is arguably one of the best parts of the game, often times a card being at one can make a very busted card on paper become a very interesting complicated card to play and build around if you can only access it one time
I started playing the game in 2010 but obviously I was very young and I didn't have money to spend, so I wasn't able to play any of this decks. There are lots of decks on this format that play a lot of cards that I really like since I started. Now, thanks to you, my best friend and I are looking for a few cards to build some of this decks :)
I'm pretty excited for this format too considering I discovered Yu-Gi-Oh around the beginning of the Zexal anime, and didn't play until mid 2019 when I got my first casual deck from a friend for my birthday.
in classic history of ygo fashion the first game of the coolest format is decided by cimo forgetting that all of his gravekeepers can beat a defense position colossal warrior with necrovalley out even though it got booked 3 times.
Game 1 Cimooo could have booked the Fighter, went in with a spy and attacked for game with the other spy and the Guard. Am I crazy, or was the line that easy?
I agree, Colossal's defense is only 1000. With a Gravekeeper's Guard and two Spies, all boosted by Necrovalley, Cimo would have been able to easily walk over it, and have more than enough damage for game.
I think that neither of the two thought that, because they forgot that Necrovalley negates the colossal fighter effect, surely they thought that he would return
He spent so long just... leaving the Fighter there. I kept looking to see if there was something I was missing but he had Skill Drain up! Did he just... forget how attacking works?
You should have two different wheels, one for each of you. And every deck you take is then being deleted from your respective wheels for the spins of the next episode and so forth.
The pros is avoiding mirrors and the cons include one person's wheel possibly being more competitive (they are tracking wins and care about that slightly) as well as knowing what the opponent could be on informs turn one plays into the dark instead of having so many possible decks to face that an informed turn one is far less likely.
@@AstridCeleste96 To make it more balanced they can pick decks for their wheel. The one who wins rock papers scissors gets to pick first and then MBT picks 2nd and so on
Idk, mirror matches aren't necessarily a bad thing (it not only helps to simulate possible tournament interactions back then but also provides a chance to see different ideas for the same deck type)
Correct. This ruling was added to the text of the sixth erata of the card to prevent the misunderstanding but they removed it with the seventh erata for no reason …
28:14 I get accounting for Bottemless and Judgement is important but I would've just summoned the Cat here, on the chance he had Torrential. It's risky, but it would've been such a blowout to trigger Starlight Road here
22:50 - Cimooooo could've just attacked the Colossal Fighter with the Guard after using either of the Book of Moons he got since, based on what they read for the text of Necrovalley (19:42), the effect of reviving a Warrior-Type would've been negated because it would've targeted a monster in the graveyard.
If I was to rank each Cimo Yu-Gi-Oh series, I'd probably order them like so: 1) Progression Series - sure it can be frustrating at times but it's the most hype and original 2) Sealed Showdown - I really enjoy the nonsense that happens in each episode 3) History of Jank - no explanation needed, solid idea 4) History of Yu-Gi-Oh - why is this the lowest rank for me? It is by no means bad. I actually love this series as well, but out of all them, I think I just like the others more. Personal preference of course, no hate at all :)
I LOVED this format!! Ran a Glad Beast Deck pretty much exclusively, but I also had a Blackwing and Twilight Deck (and Crystal Beasts locally because I could and I have always liked the CB Archetype, regardless of how good it actually was), but I loved the VARIETY of decks!! You had to be ready for SO MUCH and it had a very high skill ceiling and it was SO FUN!!
As this was era was squarely in the middle of my first major break from the game (I took it due to Tele-DAD), this will honestly be my first exposure to Edison - my way of getting to know it. Here goes... good thing I am in good hands with you two.
This is probably my favourite time in Yu-gi-oh. I see this time as GOAT 2.0. The game was slightly faster than Goat, but the deck variety was still massive and rewarded skill. Synchro era was the best.
I don't get how come a GY-centric deck like Flamvell wouldn't run Foolish Burial to make Rekindling live more quickly, and it is a bit unfortunate that Cimo's deck happens to shut down Rekindling with Necrovalley. Otherwise it was a pretty cool deck and it was a pretty cool duel. A lot of people I know don't seem to remember Flamvells weren't just Hidden Arcenal filler but actually got spotlight back in the day. It was actually one of my favorite strategies from the era.
After seeing MBT's video on Diva Hero, I'd be delighted to see the wheel incorporating Edison decks that were cooked up since, I'd love to see what wild ideas people came up with!
I can't overstate how happy I am to see Rekindling. Bring tears in me eyes as a member of the Rekindling gang. I hope I can see Laval Quasar in action.
I would love to play in this format. I remember jamming Machina Gadgets and Debris-Hime around this time. I got my first top at my locals ever with Dimensional Eatos. I didn’t know people were rocking this format, but I gotta get down.
Edison format was my first competitive format as a teenager. Machina gadget and QuickDraw Dandelion were my fav decks. I really hope you'll get to showcase them!
Omg this is so nostalgic! I was in my second year of college and this was the first time I played since middle school, man just seeing that ban list hit me right in the feels.
honestly the fact nobody can figure out why that deck came second should have meant you played it, especially seeing as how you are playing edison again anyway.
It won on floodgates and backrow. Most decks were not prepared to deal with it and thus lost to it. When the deck didn't open its traps or rekoval spells it got overwhelmed very quickly.
Ryko targeted during this time Commandant would get banished by bottomless, its never sent to grave then banished, its merely destroyed on the field and banished
I remember this. As this was my first HUGE tourney. And the VERY last SJC. I interviewed and hung out wit awesome duelists like; HighAdric, Headsh0tBR, PozJoker (Duelist turned business man, lol), etc. I dueled Roy StClair at a Win-A-Mat flight. Got my beloved Tragoedia playmat & Made a buncha videos that are styll on my channel to this day! It was a fun time fa sho! 👌🏾😁
My favorite deck from this format is Spaceships. It topped 2 events, both piloted (pun intended) by the same player. SJC Edison was not one of them, but it was with the same card pool under the same banned list. It’s basically light machine beat down and he was playing crazy techs like nobleman of extermination and riryoku.
hey cimo, ed edd & edison channel (keegan & james) are the experts on 2021 edison and have a million videos with new decks to play, would make a really great collab
Commenting today to say, the week following this video's posting, a local game store near me began hosting Edison format nights and I have every reason to believe Cimo and MBT are at least a little bit responsible for it. Thanks guys, I'm really excited to give this format a try!!
I played this format at the time and everyone agreed - it was incredibly balanced and even budget friendly! Some of the most fun yugioh I have played in my life. Happy to see people recognize this format's greatness!
I love goat format to death, but one friend converted me to Edison and now ALL of my friend group are so deep into Edison its insane. SO FUN! The deck variety, the deck building and carpool, all amazing. PLS PLAY IT
Playing formats as a legacy format like how goat is played today i think is still an impornant part of yugiohs history, so I think seeing some of thr modern edison strategies would be cool and in the spirit of the series.
Im proud to say i went to this event being a NJ native and it blew my mind how many people went the biggest event I ever went too at that time awesome moment
Cimooo should have won the first duel. He could have hit over the colossal fighter any time it was flipped face down. Necrovalley adds 500 attack to all gravekeepers
Another Edison video!! Let's go, this is a very interesting style, please give it another go! Specially as you guys said, this was during your hiatus, you're gonna have fun!
It’s funny, I’d always loved QuickDraw Dandywarrior but I hadn’t seen many people talk about this format so I just figured it was just me. Nice to see this format getting a lot of love now all these years later. Maybe it’s just me, but I love these slower formats. I’d really love to see a Dandywarrior mirror match Cimo.
Should'nt Caius have resolved in game 1? It was not on the field anymore when its effect would've resolved, but Torrential would still on the field (since cards go to the GY not until the end of the chain).
I remember playing Fableds vs Gravekeepers, and at that time, you could dodge Necrovalley with them, due to them reviving themselves. But the simplification of Necrovalley also buffed it through the roof and made it so weird stuff like that does not work anymore.
Really? An entire community of people couldn't "understand how a deck did remotely well" when it's literally just an anti-meta deck in a field full of combo/aggro Synchro plays?? "Under the power level of anything" ...it slams gadgets and one-ofs your opponents out of the game while you rally advantage, and gained Doomcaliber to stuff effect monster plays. Literally the same thing Gadgets have been doing since they were usable in decks. The deck is consistent for very obvious reasons; it was just rallied against because it's boring. Looks really bad on the Edison community to not just own up to their feelings about the deck. And they're ok with watching Gravekeeper Burn sit on a stalled board until WMC declares a win????
Honestly I do not care if you play more legacy edison or modern edison, I just want more of this. Truly we could spend 10 episodes here and I wouldn't get bored. Edison is by far the coolest format ever. I hope the petition works.

@@poisonedyoyo nah necrovalley makes the archetype dumb, and the fact that if you consider royal tribute an archetype card then all the "royal" cards are gravekeepers cards, and if you ask me the "royal" cards are the most gross of all lol
Around this time was whennyugioh was at its best for me, the combos felt good and made you think, the format felt skillful when you played around it, even though I've played since og I look to this format the most with nostalgia
anyone else played yugioh during this format, just not competitively yet? I was a 13 year old life-long fan of the show and just learned about sleeves.
Probably one of the best formats ever
Variety of tier 1 decks *check*
Skillful gameplay *check*
No expensive meta decks *check*
Cimo and not reading Necrovalley - name a more iconic duo.
That colossal dogde necrovalley 3 times xd
He read it at the start of the duel and forgot the ATK boost for the rest of it. Fun
Cimo and activating TT illegally
TBF that thing has gotten errata'd so many times it's hard to remember which effect it's on (although they looked up that exact version earlier). There was a time when it negated cards that "moved a card in the Graveyard to a different place, except itself" too (and the "except itself" got removed later)
I don’t really blame him on this one necrovalley has gotten like 8billion erratas
One thing I wish they would talk more about is that limited is almost unique to Yu-Gi-Oh( MTG even stole it down the road for vintage as far as I know), and is arguably one of the best parts of the game, often times a card being at one can make a very busted card on paper become a very interesting complicated card to play and build around if you can only access it one time
What do you mean MTG stole from that idea?
I'm curious. What is this legendary Dommcaliber Gadgets deck that got second place?
I believe it was Mkhol40!
its an antimeta deck i think it featured oppressions and maybe machina fortress as well
@@Hclody95 No machina iirc, it was basically a gadget list with plaguespreader, doomcaliber, tragoedia, gorz and a bunch of single target removal.
It's on our site! It was played by Renaldo Lainez
And why is it that bad
I started playing the game in 2010 but obviously I was very young and I didn't have money to spend, so I wasn't able to play any of this decks. There are lots of decks on this format that play a lot of cards that I really like since I started. Now, thanks to you, my best friend and I are looking for a few cards to build some of this decks :)
32:00 MBT gave up the opportunity for massive swag. Tribute stardust for caius, banish itself, 1000 damage, game.
but bottomless owuld happened before x\ so it was the safest play
@@otangakudyokeman7124 winning is far less important than swag
@@chibiraptor not really xd
I'm pretty excited for this format too considering I discovered Yu-Gi-Oh around the beginning of the Zexal anime, and didn't play until mid 2019 when I got my first casual deck from a friend for my birthday.
Already liking this format way more than Goat
in classic history of ygo fashion the first game of the coolest format is decided by cimo forgetting that all of his gravekeepers can beat a defense position colossal warrior with necrovalley out even though it got booked 3 times.
This is better and more exciting than Goat.
True
I would love to see more deck from the format, there is so much ! I agree for at least 2 more episode !
Game 1 Cimooo could have booked the Fighter, went in with a spy and attacked for game with the other spy and the Guard. Am I crazy, or was the line that easy?
I agree, Colossal's defense is only 1000. With a Gravekeeper's Guard and two Spies, all boosted by Necrovalley, Cimo would have been able to easily walk over it, and have more than enough damage for game.
it is hard for them to use their brain cells ... it is history of misplays what did you expect ?
Glad someone else saw this.
One wheel for historical Edison, one wheel for solved Edison.
@@AstridCeleste96 To make it more balanced they can pick decks for their wheel. The one who wins rock papers scissors gets to pick first and then MBT picks 2nd and so on
No!
Mirrors!
Idk, mirror matches aren't necessarily a bad thing (it not only helps to simulate possible tournament interactions back then but also provides a chance to see different ideas for the same deck type)
I have so much nostalgia for this format.
I’m pretty sure even with Necrovalley out, bottomless still banished since it never sends the monster to the graveyard
Correct. This ruling was added to the text of the sixth erata of the card to prevent the misunderstanding but they removed it with the seventh erata for no reason …
Best era of yugioh. The game is at the perfect amount of speed and complexity here, with a very solid ban list
You better elaborate on your points please...
28:14 I get accounting for Bottemless and Judgement is important but I would've just summoned the Cat here, on the chance he had Torrential. It's risky, but it would've been such a blowout to trigger Starlight Road here
if he had botomless it wouldn't matter because bottomless would have destroyed 2 monsters and starlight could negate it
22:50 - Cimooooo could've just attacked the Colossal Fighter with the Guard after using either of the Book of Moons he got since, based on what they read for the text of Necrovalley (19:42), the effect of reviving a Warrior-Type would've been negated because it would've targeted a monster in the graveyard.
I would love to see a bunch of episodes devoted to just Edison format, for both original Edison and solved Edison
"If we get wave motion canon set up, we win automatically" Me: Sealed Showdown shows differently.
If I was to rank each Cimo Yu-Gi-Oh series, I'd probably order them like so:
1) Progression Series - sure it can be frustrating at times but it's the most hype and original
2) Sealed Showdown - I really enjoy the nonsense that happens in each episode
3) History of Jank - no explanation needed, solid idea
4) History of Yu-Gi-Oh - why is this the lowest rank for me? It is by no means bad. I actually love this series as well, but out of all them, I think I just like the others more. Personal preference of course, no hate at all :)
When y'all do these format mini series I would love to have one episode when y'all both choose one deck to play instead of spin
Edison format is when I got back into the game, though I never knew it was called Edison format.
Yu-Gi-Oh is at its best when the deck is a game of two toolboxes and this proves it
Why do you say this please?
I'd like to see more decks from the actual Edison format, and some of the ones that have come since.
There's so much variety, you should use that.
Edison where my undying love for gadgets started. Its still an archtype i play around with.
This is probably my favourite time in Yu-gi-oh. I see this time as GOAT 2.0. The game was slightly faster than Goat, but the deck variety was still massive and rewarded skill. Synchro era was the best.
I would have loved to see the doomcal gadget see play. The deck can actually stand up incredibly well against the rest of the meta
It wins when you open the floodgates, backrow, and drop doomcal or TKR very early. Otherwise it gets overwhelmed very fast.
Y'all can't do just a single episode for this format, please! COVER MORE DECKS PLSSS
Both say repeatedly that they'll be doing several episodes in this format
We got Edison format a full 2 years later
The monster destroyed by Bottomless Trap Hole gets banished from the field, not from the gy. Necrovalley has no effect on this.
Edison is the greatest format in the history of yugioh, followed closely be HAT
Omg this is so nostalgic! I was in my second year of college and this was the first time I played since middle school, man just seeing that ban list hit me right in the feels.
honestly the fact nobody can figure out why that deck came second should have meant you played it, especially seeing as how you are playing edison again anyway.
It won on floodgates and backrow. Most decks were not prepared to deal with it and thus lost to it. When the deck didn't open its traps or rekoval spells it got overwhelmed very quickly.
Ryko targeted during this time
Commandant would get banished by bottomless, its never sent to grave then banished, its merely destroyed on the field and banished
5d's has the best formats, change my mind.
best formats and best anime
Dang I was looking forward to Doomcalibur Gadgets. I played a doomcalibur gadgets to a regional top.
12:40 This is probably the most wholesome moment in The History of Yu-Gi-Oh!
Wholesome has come to be another word for cringe. But, I can understand their excitement, as Edison is a very fun format.
I remember playing my flamevell synchro deck as a red nova dragon turbo back in the day
Commenting today to say, the week following this video's posting, a local game store near me began hosting Edison format nights and I have every reason to believe Cimo and MBT are at least a little bit responsible for it. Thanks guys, I'm really excited to give this format a try!!
I miss this format so much. Machina Gadgets was my favorite deck that I ran, had an answer for everything and GB's got destroyed by them lol
I played this format at the time and everyone agreed - it was incredibly balanced and even budget friendly! Some of the most fun yugioh I have played in my life. Happy to see people recognize this format's greatness!
There was a point to bottomless the stardust, it saved you 2500 damage, tbe jiujitsu master could have swung the game around
Ahh this was my format, I got back into yugioh at the start of the synchro age but i remember building my Machina Gadget deck fondly~
Can't. Colossal fighter comes back under skill drain since it activates in GY
@@murray5105 Necrovalley at the time negates all cards that target in the grave. Colossal Fighter targets and so its effect is negated
Yay Flamvell Magician! Aka Flamvell frickin Lore Man!
Another Edison video!! Let's go, this is a very interesting style, please give it another go! Specially as you guys said, this was during your hiatus, you're gonna have fun!
Really don't know why flamvell cat fell off in terms of retro play around this era. The deck was so good back then
It’s funny, I’d always loved QuickDraw Dandywarrior but I hadn’t seen many people talk about this format so I just figured it was just me.
Nice to see this format getting a lot of love now all these years later. Maybe it’s just me, but I love these slower formats.
I’d really love to see a Dandywarrior mirror match Cimo.
Could have tributes for caius target himself and burn cimo for the last 1000
Chain bottomless, Caius can't banish itself if it's already gone. Waiting and normal summoning hamster was the safer choice
Everyone here excited about Edison format and here I am excited as more Patrons get silly names and I love MBTs reactions
I would love to see the new Edison format decks that have been developed since.
Should'nt Caius have resolved in game 1? It was not on the field anymore when its effect would've resolved, but Torrential would still on the field (since cards go to the GY not until the end of the chain).
The thing colossal about the fighter is his brain. He just read 3 or 4 books game 1.
I remember playing Fableds vs Gravekeepers, and at that time, you could dodge Necrovalley with them, due to them reviving themselves. But the simplification of Necrovalley also buffed it through the roof and made it so weird stuff like that does not work anymore.
Quickdraw dandy is my favorite deck of all time, I just love this format.
Spoiler:
So that's why Cimo introduced the History of Jank this week, otherwise it would've been another perfect week.
I didn't know Edison existed until this and MBT's other video. But it's now the only format I want to play.
Honestly I do not care if you play more legacy edison or modern edison, I just want more of this. Truly we could spend 10 episodes here and I wouldn't get bored. Edison is by far the coolest format ever. I hope the petition works.
