- We're very, very excited about this one. As fans of Darth Maul we were so excited to be able to paint this fantastic and highly detailed hard plastic miniature from Star Wars Legion by Fantasy Flight Games. Now although this miniature isn't available until a bit later in the year we hope this whets your appetite for his arrival. Enjoy.

Duncan, i'd love to see you do some Marvel: Crisis Protocol models, I think the emphasis on shading and lighting would really make an awesome tutorial on those subjects.
It is kinda funny how easy you make it look doing his face when those little tiny littles are a nightmare to paint!!! But I really like how you did the rest of the model!!! Too bad I didn’t see this until way after I painted him!!!

I find these relaxing to watch.
for the eyes, I would recommend starting with an orange and then going yellow before the black. He has a deep red around the yellow of his eyes and it would give much more of that presence.
Or! You could do what I do for eyes, which is mash white clumsily all over the orbital socket, and then drop pupils on opposite corners of the eyes so he looks like Kawann Short. But you know, either way is good.

Also! You should really watch The Cmone Wars tv series, Maul makes quite an entrance, and the show is fully confirmed canon. A LOT more lines to choose, as well!

an alternative way of painting a lightsaber blade is with metallic paints and then add some spiritstone red over that, looks good and the blade have ''glow'' effect on it as well! ;)

I'm not usually very "sold" on most of the sculpts of the SW miniatures - good enough, I guess, but they just didn't "wow" me. But DADGUM that face sculpt on Maul is amazing!

Excellent as always! The red OSL on the back reads much more strongly in the turntable shot then in the tutorial, did you further enrich the color or can we chalk that up to different setting and everything being dry?

Painting the fine detail on his face would give me fits - you made it look all too easy. Out of curiosity, are there any plans to do anything with airbrushing on your channel, or are you sticking solely with brushes?
Hi Brad. For now we have no plans. We want our tutorials to be accessible for everyone and unfortunately not everyone has access to an airbrush because of cost and even the step learning curve. Saying that, we may have a look at it in the future should enough people want to see it. 😊
Duncan, I do like your tutorials very much, I find them most helpful for my own painting skill improvement. However you only use GW and Army Painter (from the videos I’ve seen), so why not Vallejo, or 3P, or cote d’arms?. I ask as I am always looking for “better paint”, to help me.

Hi Duncan, love the videos. Could you maybe give some tips / do a video on how to recover painting eyes when it goes wrong?
I have been painting minis for a while, eyes are the one thing i hate, i have tried multiple techniques and have about an 85% success rate with eyes. When they go wrong, they go really wrong and no matter how thin the paint or what technique the correction ends up blocking out all and any detail; usually resulting in striping the mini to prevent an alien frog look.
This isn't to much of a problem with a mini in armor with just an exposed head where i can start on the face and if the eyes go wrong start again. It is a pain painting any sort of mini with a lot of flesh and have spent time working on the rest of the miniature.
All well and good, but what if I want to paint the post-episode 1 version of Darth maul? I guess I just paint the bottom half right?

I love the effect of the red glow from the lightsaber on the robes it's subtle but a nice touch I'm thinking of trying something similar with my grey knights and their weapons out of interest as I'm on a budget could I achieve a similar effect with a green wash thinned down with medium? (I say green as I want to paint the blades of the weapons in green rather than blue)
For the grey knights power weapons, I'm pretty sure the standard method is to layer heavily thinned down grayish blue paints to make a gradient, so I'm pretty sure you could do the same with greenish colors.
I don't know if you could get the same effects with shades/washes though.
Hi Duncan, can you do a video how to paint Dark Eldar? it's very difficult to painting they, because they have some dark colors and it's very difficult to make the color good..
How do you know what colors use for each figure? I make airplane kits on 1/48 scale and I start with dioramas so I start to learn to paint figure and believe me you are the best to teach me how paint my figure, THANK YOU!

I’d love to know where you got that tile Palette, I haven’t been able to find one I like.
I think it's just a normal ceramic tile such as you use for tiling the kitchen or bathroom. DIY store is your best bet.
A tile sample from a DIY store (B&Q in the UK) Ive been using one for as long as I can remember 😊
