I'm watching Katee Sackoff's "Blah Blah Blah" podcast right now with Lord Maul himself, Sam Witwer, and he mentions your channel when talking about painting miniatures. And here i find this video so perfectly timed
Great subtle hint to undercoat the bright reds with a layer of white. So many of my past struggles with adding layer after layer would have been solved with this simple step. Fantastic work as always!
As usual, magnificent work, especially the NMM! I'm still striving to get my head round that style of painting...it's coming to me very slowly and little by little. These videos, among others, help a lot!
Thank you! I certainly hope to cover some of the expansions with videos; in the mean time, if you follow me on social media you'll see when I drop PDF guides (Darth Vader is coming soon: m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=pfbid07bdyEhsJaUtE8u1s1yQtDpEPa1s7ev7YxwnVntdBUfQp7pSMNABPHvPRTiKnH8uZl&id=100058055472008) 😀
Thank you! I haven't yet "converted" the colours actually. It's tricky, because even if you match the colour, the finish and properties of the two paint lines are quite different.. 🙂
as a total newbie to this, your videos are simply amazing! I'm amazed of the metallic effects without using metallic paints, what a pro! :D I'm wondering if your varnish these afterwards and, in case you do, if you can recommend what to use? Thanks!
Thank you so much for the kind words! Yes, I like to use the AK Interactive Ultra Matte Varnish (which can be brushed on or applied with an airbrush) 😀
@@Sorastro Thanks for the reply! I've been using a satin vallejo varnish but the minis end up a little bit to shiny for my taste :P will give that ultra matte a try!
holy smokes. Just calmly does NMM out of nowhere like it's no biggy. I usually try to follow along in a way, but I cannot for the life of me do NMM. Insane paint job!
Thanks so much! The mini looks matte because the Scalecolor paints have a very matte finish. The Scalecolor Artist paints (that I used for the NMM) are slightly more satin, but still fairly matte.. 🙂
Thank you! It depends, but I'll usually shoot a video like this over 2-3 days. I tend to work in concentrated bursts then do other stuff in-between (including exercise, because I don't like sitting still all day!) 😁
@Sorastro Thank you for answering that question! The video makes it seem so fast. Lately, now that I am getting faster and better, I tend to take 2-3 day per each detailed mini as well, so I am glad to hear that is starting to be about right for detailed minis. Love practicing and learning how to do more of those beautiful highlights and the amazing small details you teach us how to do. And, of course! Your Star Wars Series has been the most helpful to help me get better at mini painting over the last few months! Thank you!
Amazing as always! Those face tattoos make me shudder... "brush control"? My hand isn't steady enough, even for painting coarser details. I think I'll have to paint Lord Maul last of the bunch :/ (I've seen other people just washing the recesses, but the results aren't as satisfying as doing it properly like you).
Thank you, sir! You might find some tips in this video regarding stability (and magnification) helpful: th-cam.com/video/qW0fpSkgwLA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=EKiYJlrjC6m_UqGg 🙂

Thank you! Yep, Sam has been a kind patron and supporter of mine for a number of years now - such a great guy! :)
Same, cool find!
Always a lovely day when Sorastro uploads!
Aww thanks so much! 😊
Sorastro is the best painting series to watch while painting.
Thanks so much! I really appreciate that 😊
Another stellar video. I get great joy form listening to your voice/musical score and watching you paint.
The nmm bits are my favorite.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate that 😀
Atonishing! Thank you for all your efforts to bringing us these videos!
Yes! I love it. Thank you! Eyes are focused perfectly.
Thank you! I really wanted the eyes to be "right" 😀
Great subtle hint to undercoat the bright reds with a layer of white. So many of my past struggles with adding layer after layer would have been solved with this simple step. Fantastic work as always!
Thank you so much! I'm glad you found the video useful 😀
Beautiful as always, bud.
Thanks Hal! Glad you like him 😀
I’ve been on the fence about Shatterpoint for a while now but your videos are probably going to push me over the edge. He looks amazing sir!
Thanks so much, Steve! The models sure are gorgeous, and a real joy to work on! 😀
Absolutely spectacular my friend! will definitely use this when i paint mine.
Thank you, Steve! I sure needed some magnification when working on the face... 😁
Awesome job! So much detail.
Thank you, Ruth! 😊
Fantastic. Shatterpoint has some amazing minis
Thank you, Justin! It sure does 😀
A fantastic reference, looking forward to further episodes. Enjoy Gen Con - hope everyone enjoys, and learns a great deal, during the live sessions.
Thanks a lot, Daz! 😀
Always inspiring to watch you work, I got some spray primers for Christmas so hopefully I'll get to working on some of the fellas I've built
Awesome, thank you! 😀
I painted this last week. I searched for this video then for inspiration.
Doh! Sorry, there was a bit of a delay in my releasing this one.. 🙂
@@Sorastro hahaha thank you for your hard work and dedication. Great to see another way to paint the model.
Thanks, buddy! 😁
You’re back! Awesome content as always!😁👏
Thank you my friend! 🤗
As usual, magnificent work, especially the NMM! I'm still striving to get my head round that style of painting...it's coming to me very slowly and little by little. These videos, among others, help a lot!
Thanks a lot! I've also spent several years exploring the NMM style of painting; it's a rewarding endeavour for sure.. 😁
You are always such an inspiration! Fantastic work! Any plans on tackling the expansions?

Just AWESOME! If the brush wasnt on screen, I would of thought that was a real person!
Ha ha, excellent - thank you! 🤗
Love it! So glad I waited for this instead of jumping the gun and painting with my own shoddy scheme, haha.
Aw, thanks a lot! 😁
Great video! Thank you for the playlist!
Any suggestions on alternatives from the SC line to the SCA colors used?
Thank you! I haven't yet "converted" the colours actually. It's tricky, because even if you match the colour, the finish and properties of the two paint lines are quite different.. 🙂
Great work as usual. Hope the patreons request more KDM now that Gamblers Chest is out!
Thanks so much! Ha ha, yep - I'll be tackling the Smog Singers soon... 😁

Awesome - it's really great stuff 😀
This is awesome! Will you be doing the evil Mandolorians as well?
Thank you! Yes, I'll be releasing the Gar Saxon + Mandos vid next week.. 😀
Have you had a chance to try Army Painters new Fanatic line or 2 thin coats yet? Curious what you think about them.
I confess I haven't tried those paint lines yet.. 🙂
DEW IT!
😄
holy smokes. Just calmly does NMM out of nowhere like it's no biggy. I usually try to follow along in a way, but I cannot for the life of me do NMM. Insane paint job!
Thank you so much! NMM takes some practice for sure.. 😀
Wow, absolutely amazing again. Why does the mini look so matte in every shot? Do you apply matte varnish after each paint step?
Thank you for sharing!
Thanks so much! The mini looks matte because the Scalecolor paints have a very matte finish. The Scalecolor Artist paints (that I used for the NMM) are slightly more satin, but still fairly matte.. 🙂
@@Sorastro got it, thank you.
The Master paints the Apprentice. I'm more excited to work on the Shatterpoint minis than I am to actually play the game.
Ha, thanks buddy! 😁
Great vid as always! How long total does it take you to paint/record painting a mini like Maul with drying between layers and cuts and all that?
Thank you! It depends, but I'll usually shoot a video like this over 2-3 days. I tend to work in concentrated bursts then do other stuff in-between (including exercise, because I don't like sitting still all day!) 😁

Do you also play the games?
Hi! Yep - although I confess I haven't found the time to get Shatterpoint to the table as much as I'd like! 😀
@Sorastro Same here. I have been painting them since they came out but only played the game twice
