Thank you. Mine is stuck in the closed position. I hope I can get into it. I got a warning for a tail light that is out but I can’t get to it because I can’t open the tailgate.
Just did this, mine had a broken clip to the LH rod right at the lever, easy fix. For the record, the plastic skin on the inside of the tailgate looks captured when the tailgate is closed, but it is not. Take out all the screws, remove the top edge trim, and there are two small ears on each side that slightly wrap the corner. The plastic will bend enough to let you bow it a bit while pulling upward and it will come out. I had to slip mine past the rubber bumpers but after that it's free.

How do you get open to take off panels?
My tailgate won't open and the extender is in the bed so we can't get to the screws.
