I agree with you on the Steve's team being the weakest part. The movie did take out the focus on all heroes to put it on Thanos, which they did say they would do and did make Thanos a great character, but also made so many heroes feel so lacking.
Steve was said to be going through the whole journey of not being Captain America anymore, and we don't see any of that. I think he barely gets 4 lines in the entire movie.
And when Captain America becomes the Hawkeye of the movie, just imagine Hawkeye himself. If you were expecting this to be the movie that finally allows Clint to show off the full extent of his abilities and become cool to the eyes of everyone, then just screw you, I guess. The Russo brothers said he was going through his own special journey, and we don't even get a hint of that.
That being said, there were clearly scenes cut from the movie: the trailer scene of Natasha looking at Bruce in Wakanda and him looking back at her in front of the Hulkbuster's arm wasn't in the movie, and it was probably about them addressing their feelings for each other. So I wonder how many of these key character scenes were cut to save screentime just like that.

captainmidnight I know this isn't relevant to this video , but I have a theory regarding your previous video about the X Men in the MCU. Remember from Iron Man 3 there was that scene where Aldrich Killian explained to Pepper that there's an empty slot in the brain saying human DNA is destined to upgrade? That could be a good way to explain mutants. And what if Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch were actually mutants, but they were activated by the Mind Stone? That might explain why they were the only ones to survive the experiments. It could be like how Juggernaut got his powers in X Men Evolution. There he was an enhanced mutant which meant he had a dormant x gene which he awakened with mysticism. Replace mysticism with alien science or serums and you get enhanced people from the MCU movies and shows. Also, Deadpool could be another good explanation. In the movie, he was a dormant mutant as well and his powers were activated by a serum that triggered when he was placed in a stressful situation or environment, kind of like how mutants would normally develop their powers. Also, it would kind of be the same thing as Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch. They evolved to survive.

Infinity War went ahead and killed like most of its cast. They went ahead and traumatized this generation.
Now thing is we know pretty much all of them are gonna come back. The only people who are probably not gonna come back are those whose actors were layed off and such.
Also, Imma force my kids to watch all the Marvel movies, I´m gonna take them on this train that they love, and pretend that Infinity War was the last movie in this installment. They will be broken, and then a week later I will come in and be like "SYKE THERE ARE 30 MORE MOVIES! BUCKLE UP LITTLE SHIT"

Not like movies are going away. The MCU has been the biggest thing in all of movie history, has affected and will continue to affect movies and media in general for decades after its over. Even if every MCU movie absolutly flops from here on out, it will and has had a huge effect on American culture, and western culture in general.
TL;DR the same way you knew about Romeo and Juliet as a kid, your kids will know about MCU.

My mind can’t get off the fact that Spider-Man one of my fav superhero’s who detects danger via spidysense detected him going to disappear so it started freaking out going insane. Then he just goes whoosh gone. Imagine it, everyone else goes peacefully but spidy? He feels that he’s going to die just like that nothing he can do. And like the young person he is he cries for the person he trusts to help feeling himself about to die, only to see stark empty face destroyed saying it’s going to be all right just then to die like that.
I would go insane if I could feel myself about to just die with nothing I could do. I like Spider-Man, do not feel so good.

It’s a shame, I feel like the Russo’s really didn’t know what to do with Cap and his character that said, in hindsight I think I works after seeing Endgame. Having Cap in a role similar to Tony would’ve felt like an over-saturation based on his role in Endgame.
For Tony we can see so much of him because he’s human and the audience realises there are literal stakes for him he’s much easier to kill than the Boy Scout and his relationship with Bucky hasn’t been explored enough to put it on the same level as Tony’s and Pete’s - plus the fact Peter is a teenager so we can see that Tony is losing a son of his own invention; not brainwashed best-friend.
But in Endgame, there are stakes for Cap - as there are for Tony (Tony’s being more personal) but Cap’s conflict with his internal motivation, he can’t just sit still knowing there is something he can do. In Infinity War, Cap didn’t have these stakes because they weren’t go to Wakanda for war.

From my gf's input- she saw it in theaters but I waited (through alllll of the spoilers, but oh well I saw that much coming)- nobody liked the Vision/ Scarlet Witch plot thread. I'm talking she heard audible sighs from the theater when it cut to them. The battle at Wakanda although definitely a visual spectacle just ends up feeling like a formality, as well. "Shit we brought Vision here to protect the stone, guess we've gotta do the fight thing now" and Thanos doesn't even show up until the battle there is pretty well tilted, reflecting pretty much all of the mood to it.
On the other end of the spectrum, yeah, absolute love for Strange/Tony/Peter as a whole thing, and the Titan fight was incredible, I loved all of it. The stakes pretty much reach net zero when you have a time controlling artifact in your universe but I'm still interested- plus a time travel marvel movie sounds awesome enough already.

    Okay re: Starlord
The one thing we are shown time and time again is that the death of his mother is his BSoD flashpoint.
At the end of GotG when Gamora asks him to take her hand he sees his mother; his codename is from his mother; he refused to leave his walkman and his mom's mixtape behind; when his celestial dad says deliberately gave Meredith the tumour that killed her, Quill is determined to kill him; his relationship with Gamora solidifies in the aftermath of his accepting the death of his mother. So when he finds out that Gamora's father has killed her like his father killed his mother, it's like opening that emotional wound all over again.
Tbh, he's practically pre-programmed to flip out under those circumstances.

I'm wondering if we're going to have a bit of a time jump. A few years into the future. Where most of our OG's have grieved and have moved on with their lives. Tony, now married with a 1-2 year old, Steve finds love and is at peace, black widow and banner together etc, and they are put into the position of deciding between their current lives and saving everyone. I could imagine this being a huge emotional sacrifice for tony and possibly the others.

I feel that it was oddly satisfying learning about all of those characters. I normally don’t like that many stories converging BUT it was done so well I didn’t realize the movie was that long. You are absolutely right that Captain’s crew and movie segment was lackluster but maybe because it was sitting next to such great scenes and chemistry of the other groups. I felt that watching all of these marvel movies... this movie made the right moves and it felt satisfying to watch. What more can you ask a movie? Million dollars to my bank account?

  • @Arthetraveler
    @Arthetraveler 6 ปีที่แล้ว

I think the most satisfying way to bring it all full circle is to have an ending where thanos is the one to undo it all.
an ending that shows that these avengers just couldn't deal with this threat. that in the end it was Thanos' character and how he is portrayed that leads him to accept that his decision isn't the right one and to undo the damage..
maybe throw in some plot so that thanos can do some harm to the main cast of avengers 4 that can't be part of what he has to undo later on but i think that would be perfect.
a universe where the victory isn't guaranteed, assured, or even complete. where thanos tells them... "I messed up in what I thought was right... but only I can undo it.. because none of you are strong enough to stop me".
It would leave the avengers broken... "this threat exists in the world... and in the end we were powerless.. only luck and a change of ideals spared us from complete devestation"

  • @thegamecorner2709

Okay, heres how i want Avengers 4 to start, imagine important clips from all phases to tell the story of the whole mcu real quick, with the occasional black screen with "I don't want to go Mr.stark". Then, we see Peter parker running through the world of the soul gem when he meets Adam warlock.

I still really want to see a movie of Dr. Strange and Tony Stark having to put up with each other, hopefully in the What If... series they can give us another glimpse, maybe even the missed opportunity for one of them to say, "No shit, Sherlock." to the other.

You're right about Cap, Bucky and Black Panther being really under-featured, but the movie wasn't really about them. They chose to focus on Vision and Scarlet Witch more for the earth-bound Avengers which I guess makes sense since they're the infinity stone couple. It's a shame for T'Challa since he disintegrated and so won't be in A4, but at least Cap will have more development in Part 2

I think my favorite comment on infinity war was that Marvel made a scenario where a Norse god, a talking raccoon, and a teenage tree who has a total vocabulary of 3, used rainbow road to arrive on a futuristic African country to fight against a large horde of creatures that look like a combination of venom and alien's worse nightmare combinations and they made it work.

I respect your opinion but I 100% disagree Thanos is a much better and more well-written villain than Killmonger also I wouldn't call the film a "funny movie" it's definitely a tragedy with some humor to bring some levity to the film. Also with Cap's crew it's not that the Russos weren't interested in that group's story but they felt his story was more worth exploring in Avengers 4, the Russos and the writers felt they're wasn't really anything interesting in Infinty War to explore with Cap's group (atleast not as interesting as Thanos' story) but they said in Avengers 4 Cap and Black Widoe will have a big role which will see Steve go through a very intense arc.

I'm just hoping Steve Rogers play a big role, sacrificing himself to maybe save the disappeared heroes. Not only will it give a shock value to the movie, but it will give true image of the character.

I feel cap will be the center of avengers 4 since it seems the focus of the first part was on a select set and there was just so many characters. The remaining characters like cap and Tony will be center piece of the entire film, thanos will fall more to the way side.

  •  6 ปีที่แล้ว

Nice video. The Captain America thread you have to understand that this movie wasn't much about them and there was no more you could give them in this besides being characters in this film which is fine by me because just like in comic book crossovers you will always have characters be background but some how will always have important things to do in let's say future issues. The fact that they didn't give Cap a big role I was actually relieved because it gave the ones that needed to be in the spotlight more that were directly attached to Thanos, for example, Gamora and Nebula were daughters so they have direct connections and by default the rest of the Guardians, Tony and Spider-Man were dragged in by Doctor Strange which he happens to carry the time stone and Vision with Wanda due to the mind stone. The Red Skull was not shoe horned in, he was sent to that planet by the space stone in Captain America: The First Avenger. I love the irony of his arc by this end because of what he would have to do in order to get the soul stone and he can't so he is cursed to have this knowledge and simply be the keeper of the it forever.

I keep thinking about the first avengers movie where Loki’s scepter doesn’t work on Tony. And then realizing that the infinity stones can only affect the things within the universe that they are from. And knowing that Howard Stark has been trying to get his hands on Hank Pimms quantum technology. Did Howard succeed?Did he enter the quantum realm and travel to another universe? If so, why go there? Perhaps to replace a lost son? Does this mean Tony is from another universe? Is that why the stones don’t work on him? Is that why he might be able to wield the gauntlet? So many questions.

damn the movie was super amazing but so mad Thanos barely used the Infinity Guantlet. He turned Drax into cubes, Mantis into Ribbons, had a fakeout vision with Gamora, reversing time to get the Mind Stone, and then finger snap. Then the rest was just Thanos punching and using force blasts. Need to wait a year for the conclusion, omg.

The knife trick was not near as clever as Loki usually is If he had done that, it would have been a projection or something. He's known for back-up plans on back-up plans. Not such a shabby desperate attempt.

I am going to have a rant there so if you cbb with it then just scroll past.
I don't get why everyone is mad at Peter Quill for "ruining" the plan. He has basically lost everyone he loves. He watched his mother die at a very young age, only to be kidnapped after it. He had to kill his biological father who basically has the same intentions as Thanos, and found out that he killed his mother. Ego broke his walkman that was a gift from his dead mother and Peter lost his real father figure (yondu) after he sacrificed himself for him. Anyone would act the same way if they went through that. Also, he lost gamora, the woman he loved after believing he would have to kill her but then finds out that Thanos just killed her anyways. He didn't even get to say goodbye.
    Peter quill deserved better
Thanks for coming to my TED talk.
    Sorry for the rant.

By far the best MCU film, everything worked for me. I've always rated winter soldier as the best for a while, but this is a diffrent level. BP is massively overhyped, but Killmonger was great. He wasn't as good as Thanos simply because the sheer power he had compared to a killmonger who could hardly finish of the dora milaje in a vibranium suit.

I was actually glad Cap and his team not having much story. I felt an problem with Age of Ultron was it tried to give everyone a story arc and it hurt the pacing of the film. I think what the Russo brothers did was realize they couldn’t tell everyone’s story in this film and prioritized. As much as I love MCU’s Cap I think his Secret Avengers outlaw team is one of the stories that would have detracted from the film if they went deeper into it. I was the opposite of you and felt less was more in that group. Cap’s look told me enough of what I felt needed to be told. The small reunion between Steve and Bucky I felt told me everything I needed to know about how Bucky is adjusting to his new life and recovery. Even Nat and Bruce awkward reunion I felt served to tell me more of where they stand then if I got 5 minutes of them talking about things. I feel like that is a reason why only Peter Quilln Gamora got a clear story in the movie out of all the Guardians. There were just too many characters and like a giant comic book crossover they had to choose which characters to give a story too and which ones wouldn’t get one. That is the strength and weakness of a shared continuity work and rather it is good or bad depends on the person. I do see your point and understand why prefer more personal and smaller scale stories/comics. There is more time to focus on a smaller cast of characters vs. working with a large ensemble.

I think the original 6 will have to sacrifice themselves to bring everyone else back, thus ending their contracts with Disney. Thanos does have layers and much more subtlety and complexity compared to Kill Monger’s abandoned child origin. But, unlike Kill Monger, there isn’t any true personal conflict with Thanos outside of Gamora and Nebula. Because Thanos is perceived through the eyes of Dr. Strange, Gamora and a natural gravitation toward seeing him through Tony Stark’s perspective, we don’t have that sense of personal malice or hatred that we had with Kill Monger. Kill Monger was able to get the audience to align their emotions PERFECTLY aligned with the Protagonist. We felt empathy as with Black Panther and wished for him to have a happier ending than he deserved. But at the same time, we hated his evil and knew he couldn’t be allowed to live. It was subtle, but I’d accomplished that alignment in a way that seldom happens in comic book film adaptations.
Infinity War isn’t white a complete film yet. Notice how there was ZERO character evolution except that of Thanos and Gamora in regards to resolving their understanding of heir feelings for each other. Stark and Parker’s father/son dynamic, Gamora and Quill’s feelings for one another were not revelations. I think the Russo Brothers purposely kept this film anchored as a “transition” film to set up final closure for the characters in the next film whether they continue on or not

The thing for me was, the stakes seemed pretty high until they teased Tony's death but then immediately did't do it. And then when people did start "dying", it happened so fast and so many of them were fading away, that you just know it won't be permeant and that they will all come back in the next one. Even if they don't, it just felt trial to me.
So I was fully enjoying the movie until the end. It didn't feel like a risk at all. A risk would have been having Thanos kill Tony. There was no tragedy for me. Well, maybe Gamora. Loki has died too many times for me to think he's really dead.

Mr. Stark? I don't feel so good... I loved the strange arguments of Infinity War. And I didn't expect to feel sorry for Thanos but I really did. Also Gamora didn't die. Star-Lord's scene punching Thanos was very in-character and I wasn't angry at it. He literally shoots his space-dad in the everything when he finds out he killed his mom, so I expected him to react that way. Also Panther's death scene was probably the only part I didn't like. He's not my favourite character but even still that scene really didn't give any feeling.
