    Believe me, If I actually had millions$ I would support this cause 100%. We do need many more of these all over the Country. I know how it feels to have nothing, to feel like you're nothing..living on the street and its the lowest feeling that anyone could ever imagine. May good fortune continue to grace them. Namaskar~

    We should use abandoned military bases, and set up tiny home cities, and teach the homeless people building trades (carpentry, plumbing, electrical, etc.) as they build the homes!

    This is such a great idea for every city, county, state to take the opportunity to make affordable housing for anyone that needs it!! Thank you Mr. Graham for a great model for others to follow! And hopefully they will.

    Very nice, $375 a month furnished, a garden to grow fruits and veges, and a small clinic. A lot of people are saying "if they are homeless how can they pay"...many of the homeless are elderly or mentally ill, now with an address/home they can receive they're SSI

    The way zoning, building codes, regulation is, people are often forced to buy much more than they can afford and even want, leaving them with nothing, being renters the rest of their lives, making the wealthy, wealthier, and it 's not fair. We have had way too much government that has produced some working poor. It shouldn't have been that way. No bank will loan a man money for a 500 square foot home built on a few concrete piers, even though it would survive the storms. No permits would ever be given for such a thing. Who needs carpet, plastic laminate, marble, or all the rest of it? To many people, none of that matters, so why be forced to pay for all that? What we desire is freedom. This is America. We would like to own something we can afford, and we would like to build it ourselves. Some of us are carpenters, mechanics, plumbers, and such.

    Two big reasons for homelessness in America:
    #1. Mental illness renders some incapable of managing their lives well enough to provide a roof over their heads. Some prefer to live "free" from all commitments, even the commitment to paying rent.
    #2. Relatively "wealthy" people have made laws that help them gain wealth... and those laws work against those whose incomes fall below a certain line. Minimum wage is not enough to rent a home and pay electric, water, telephone, and groceries... to say nothing of medical bills, insurance... and taxes.
    I own a 3 acre plot of land... but to be able to live on it requires me to be able to do certain things to that land... which I cannot afford.
    I could stop paying rent, if I could just pull a building onto my land, and camp in it.
    But... wealthy people make that kind of thing illegal.

    • @MrDarylWhitt
      @MrDarylWhitt 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you envy the rich people then go be rich. Sell those three acres and use the money to open a business. There are over a million millionaires in the US and most of them made their own money. It takes hard work and a willingness to risk everything.

    After the numbers were crunched on high; they found that it was costing $40,000 a year to deal with the homeless through the jail/Court systems. If the homeless were given one of these homes, with support services and social security,it was costing about $20,000 a year. Economically and socially,it's a better option because these people don't have repeat arrests on their records,they can learn life skills like budgeting and cooking,possibly volunteering in the community before finding paid employment to keep the place.

    • @mikeaskme3530
      @mikeaskme3530 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @Random Person, i know you are not saying this to be mean, but you should know this. One of the main factor for prolong homelessness is not having a job and its hard to get a job if you dont have a place to call home, to wash up, to be presentable. Homelessness is a vicious cycle one that is hard to break without a home. When you are homeless it often leads to substance abuse because you are a depressed. So providing a home, is the first step to break that cycle.

    She's a veteran and disable. Clearly she needs assistance. What about those who clearly dont want to stop using drugs or those that push women into prostitution in downtown Austin ? Those women are sold to other vagrants in the city. Tents are all over the place because of the city council and mayor.

      @Isisix juillet, i live in Dayton Ohio and it cost almost 600 dollars a month minus utilities, i would snap up the chance to live in a "box" as you call it in a minute. Speaking of boxes, we all live in a box, your box just has many boxes in it as well and i bet you go out to spend money just to fill those boxes as well. But let me ask you a question, what exactly does a person actually need to live well besides a roof over their heads, a place to sit and socialize and a place to cook?
