Not from America but I find it odd that a death of an American soldier is treated with more dignity than an American veteran . How does that make sense
Yes! One issue I found in Alabama, at least as recent as 2021 was that when it comes to permits and funding, the tiny house wasn’t able to be permitted and mortgaged and insured or in these cases made legal for living- I didn’t go far into why, but was told this when I wanted to go look at a property listing that was tiny home, and the state above me just a few min drive, is totally doing it successfully-
Maybe we could have a program where we cut all aid to foreign countries and stop all immigration without proof of a job and give all of the savings to the homeless veterans.
Matt Bowman this has been attempted many times but as usual politicians get in the way. Perfect examples can be found throughout California cities where the greatest numbers in need exist. There, the loons create delays while increasing costs until the sanity of market solutions run out and take their ideas with them. SAD!
Dream Chaser Thank you for caring to inquire. I was able to utilize several veteran programs called SSVF (Supportive Services for Veteran families), Easter Seals, and United Way and Wounded Warrior Project (Registered Alum) and SUS (Services for the Underserved). I also stayed at several temporary veteran transitional housing shelters. I am a very resourceful and mentally tough person. I currently have survival gear in my car in the event I would have to live outdoors or in my car again. (Tent, sleeping bag, crank flash light, etc). I would take my showers at the gym as I had a monthly membership and I would eat at various local soup kitchens. The non profit organizations provided grants that give homeless veterans a “one shot deal” meaning the grants will cover 1 month security and 1 months rent. They want to know that you have either a secure job or stable income to support yourself going forward to prevent a reoccurrence of homelessness. I am happy to report I am no longer homeless, currently work for the IRS and I am actually in the early stages of buying my first home in Charlotte NC.
Definitely! So many people really do care about our veterans, we just need to hear more about who's doing what and where--and most importantly, how any of us can contribute more as you keep up the work. :) GOD BLESS EACH AND EVERY ONE OF THESE VETS! Nimbyism. Nobody wants a homeless "village" next door. Regardless of whether its Vets or not. The land these go on has to be multi-family residential too. Problem is why are Veterens homeless? Theres so many reasons, both mental n physical. They are made into robots that do as commanded n designed to live in a routine etc, civi life is different.
FANTASTIC. I am a Veteran that has been homeless before, living in my car. The one thing I desired most was a place to shower after work. I thank you for looking out for your fellow Veterans.

It always amazes me how the loud, obnoxious, self absorbed jewish community can find all kinds of money to build endless, massive, monuments to themselves, everywhere and how they are constantly whining at the top of their lungs about the war and how apparently, they were the only ones to die during the war, in the holocaust, but they cannot be bothered to find any money to build a few monuments to thank the WW2 veterans for their sacrifice and for saving the jews, or spend some money to help the aging WW2 veterans with affordable housing or hospitals. I mean these are the real life war heroes that risked their lives and suffered endless horrors during WW2 and rescued the jews from the Nazis. It is typical and no surprise that the jewish community cannot be bothered look past their own noses and say THANK-YOU to those men and women that saved them, let alone offer to help them with affordable housing or their medical needs. Clearly the jews are more interested in talking about themselves as loud as possible, all day, every day, everywhere they can, because it's all about me, me, me, I am the chosen one and you deplorables are not worth bothering about, let alone saying thank-you for saving our life! Of course you have to remember these are same delusional people that actually have the nerve to run around claiming God himself, actually dropped by a few times, to talk to a few jewish guys, about 2 thousand years ago, and told them they are 'the chosen ones' and I mean, of course if the jews say it happened, it must be true right... it's not as if the jews would ever lie. They really are an incredibly ungrateful jewish community and they wonder why the jews have been (and still are) hated by so many people all over the world. Haaaah! Cheers to these impressive folks that took the time, made the effort and actually made the world a better place by giving to others, just because it was a nice thing to do... they are real heroes!

It's a transitional home, these 49 homes will be used by hundreds, if not thousands of people by the time they are too dilapidated for occupation anymore.
As a vet who was constantly in fear of losing their home, I am so glad there are people like you who care so much for others and take the time and effort to do work like this for those who did lose their home. There should be more people like you and I applaud all your hard work.
This is confusing! The idea of a homeless vet seems to alien to me. It is an American issue. How can the American military spend money so much all over the world and not actually take care of its military people. Here in China our military people get taken care of, it is not luxury but medical, education and housing is basic. It is not without some wrangles with local officials, but charity is not and should not be needed. Plus healthy vets allow for the military to expand quickly if needed suddenly. Best wishes for peace from China.
@@MrAgentTurner It's different for every city. Sometimes it's zoning laws. Sometimes the people don't want homeless moving in near them. Other times it's because they don't have the land to build tiny houses on because the land they would build on is a nature preserve. From Sanfran to LA, there is multiple different reasons, none of which really make sense.

What people need is a good living wage even when you're temporarely unimployed or not able to work. I had nothing against the soldiers, just the sick people forcing them to fight a unjust war, all the way in the other side of the planet, against a people who were still in the stone age. And get this, my family is still a military family, after 78 years. And being that my grandson, is the child of mother and father Air Force, which means that is the only life he knows, I bet he will continue the traditions. Got take your meds and stop jumping to conclusions. My dad, got himself a Silver Star among many other medals for fighting in WWII, Korea and Vietnam. He saw many deaths in all those wars, but he did what he did because he believed in the US and I did what I did because I believed in justice. By the way, my only brother, finally got over that war when he was 67 and made a decision to stop drinking cold turkey. I know plenty about war. My dad gave me a copy of the Art of War when I was still in elementary school and he taught me to box when I was a little girl of 6. Broke the nose of the school bully when I was 8, he was 12 and thought is was the perfect target. Let just say, after that his bully phase ended. Not to many people fear some creep beaten my a little girl, and he became the target. Next time ask first. I was born and raised a warrior. I fought against the war, until we WON and the US had to leave Vietnam. Who know how many thousand of people would have died if it had continued. I really cared about my friends being forced to go or go to jail. No need to tell me that. I know. Like I said, I was an Army brat and all the men in my family, asides my son were also, he decided to join the Air Force and go to war, multiple times. The base was attacked because they ran the radars, so they were very important in the safety of everyone else. Go preach to someone who has not been military all her life. I agree, though more must be done with people taking initiative themselves. The military already offers interest free and downpayment free home loans for veterans, so there's no reason not to be eligible unless they made a mistake on their own that ruined their credit.
@@gregm8871 You'd be surprised at how many hoops you have to jump through to get those home loans. And it's not the military directly but the VA which, while military, runs on a whole different program, and is more of a hurdle to go through. Also, many times these homeless vets DID have houses and those VA loans prior to becoming homeless. There are so many factors in which our society has screwed over our Vets, that making a statement like that shows that you are not aware of how badly our people need our help. Equally there are many who due to medical reasons were not able to hold down a civilian jobs, and their disability check does not cover enough to keep a roof over their head. So a housing development like this that allows them that "luxury" and provides outreach and training to learn once again how to be a part of the society they are now living in, is BEYOND words for how wonderful and helpful this is. Lastly, if you paid attention, this is not intended to be a forever home. This is designed to be that stepping stone to get them to a point where they CAN "take the initiative and themselves" as you so curtly put it. Just the unrequested two cents of an active duty Sailor who HAS BEEN HOMELESS and wants to see my brothers and sisters have a chance to live life to its fullest, and not "living" on the streets.
@@keeperodinson3306 I understand what you're saying - I myself just got done with closing on a home loan through the VA, that's why I'm referring to it. I wasn't saying this is a permanent solution, but that the military and the VA set people up when discharging so these sort of things shouldn't happen. A lot of it is on the verts as much as it is on the VA. People are failing to plan for anything. There are a few hoops, but it seems that most people negatively affected by it have made previous mistakes that hold them back from home ownership. if your credit is less than average then not even the VA will want to work with you, but they'll try. I'm get it dude. I was previously active duty, a combat medic/paratrooper, and am partially disabled now. My wife is AD and just got through with two years as a drill sergeant. We were also previously homeless, together, years before the Army. Like I said, this is a great idea for temporary help, but people need to also be more responsible with their decisions.

This is an absolutely BRILLIANT idea! There should be projects like this going on all over the country for the homeless in general! Great video Chris 👍🏼👍🏼👏🏼
We veterans need to stop thinking that the country owes us... It's dehumanising. I'm not sure the veterans that love to suck the tithe of America would agree with me. I am a veteran with a qualifying disability I have never pursued. I've had employees at the VA hospital tell me to get $500-$700/month just by filling out the paperwork. Call it pride. I'm from a line of veterans would would be proud of me not clipping funds from the government I swore to defend.
@Shaw: The veterans already earned these homes. These are not some free give away. Freedom is not free and their lives have bought and paid for our freedom. The brave joined the military and fought for this country. Get a job - Join the military.
@@mzzcognac6459 children aging out of the foster care system are still kids. some will be self-sufficient, others will still need care and support. i left home to go to college at 17. and even though i worked full time 3 out of the 4 years to help pay my expenses, that is not the same as having to completely support myself as a full grown adult. i never had to live at home again, but it was good to know that if the worst happened or if i needed support, i had a family i could turn to for help. what if a kid is turned out into the world with no one they can turn to? kids who age out of the foster system are at very high risk of homelessness. i think this would be a wonderful solution. kind of transitional housing in a setting where you have privacy and autonomy, without isolation.
In Toronto my first home was called a "war home", they were houses that were built for all the returning soldiers after WW2, there are millions of them in the city, countless neighbourhoods, they are all around 800 square feet and until the 2000's they were very affordable, I as a 26 year old with a new family was very easily able to afford my first home. Now they build new homes a minimum 2300 square feet and those war homes are now a Million Dollars to buy. The world is messed up, there needs to be projects like this on a grand scale, not just for Veteran's but for young people to begin a good prosperous life.
I don't know how many Strawberry Box Homes the Wartime Housing Corporation built in Toronto, but they built close to fifty thousand of these homes across Canada. They were not necessarily built for returning soldiers, but rather built as low income rental units. Maybe a lot were rented by soldiers, but that was not their sole purpose. Around 1946-47 the Wartime Housing Corporation became Central Mortgage and Housing, and began selling the units for approximately what would be $150,000 today. I absolutely agree the government needs to spend more focus on affordable housing. My son rents a one bedroom apartment that cost him over fifty percent of his income. When I was his age I spent roughly twenty percent of my income on housing. If people are given cheaper housing they will spend the money they save somewhere else, helping the overall economy. Because of your comment I looked up what I could buy for a million dollars in Toronto. I was shocked to say the least. Money certainly doesn't go very far in Toronto real estate nowadays.
@@flyingdutchman6984 Levittown housing communities, (among others), were built as postwar suburban developments in the US. The homes were nice looking and not low income rentals. The 1948 Housing Bill liberalized lending, allowing anyone to buy a home with 5 percent down and extending mortgage terms to 30 years. They were not very expensive. I guess Canada was not as understanding.
@@1caramarie - while the houses were initially built as low income rentals they eventually started selling the houses for a reasonable rate. I think they realized it was going to be a bitch handling so many rental units. 😁

This should be a permanent situation in every state! Our veterans DESERVE a place to live!!!!!!
❤
This is a plan I wanted to develop in my area
Yes! One issue I found in Alabama, at least as recent as 2021 was that when it comes to permits and funding, the tiny house wasn’t able to be permitted and mortgaged and insured or in these cases made legal for living- I didn’t go far into why, but was told this when I wanted to go look at a property listing that was tiny home, and the state above me just a few min drive, is totally doing it successfully-
Meanwhile illegals are living in hotels getting everything provided for them.
I can't wait until they're all deported.
This needs to be scaled nationally. I hope we can end homelessness with transitional tiny homes.
Most powerful country in the world with homeless refugee camps wth .
Maybe we could have a program where we cut all aid to foreign countries and stop all immigration without proof of a job and give all of the savings to the homeless veterans.
Why does this have to be transitional homes why can it be permanent will the government not be happy unless we buy $250,000 homes??
When the billionaires live in tiny houses, then I will believe they are good enough for our Veterans
Matt Bowman this has been attempted many times but as usual politicians get in the way. Perfect examples can be found throughout California cities where the greatest numbers in need exist. There, the loons create delays while increasing costs until the sanity of market solutions run out and take their ideas with them. SAD!
Beautifully made homes for our Vets who deserve them.
As a Navy veteran that has been homeless three times, I think this is an AMAZING solution. Thank you for caring for us vets.
That honeslty breaks my heart and put things into perspective. 3 times is too much for any person to handle. How did you got out of those situations?

Haaaah! @synchromorph More like psychomorph. Get real, during Vietnam they had zero choice. Your number came up, right after turning 18, you went or ended up in jail. Many of the homeless vets are from that era. At the time, 18 year olds were NOT even considered adults, for that you needed to wait 3 more years. When there are few jobs, your choice is to live off welfare or join the military. Not a good choice. The system is set up so if you are low income, you stay low income, while the corporate interest make the money for not doing much. Too bad TH-cam doesn't allow thumb down, people's feeling could get hurt. You would have gotten hundreds of them. Thumbs down from me.
@@1caramarie yeah, but many people chose prison because war was very dangerous and scary. These veterans were the brave ones and deserve all the appreciation and respect. You lazy, good for nothing, disrespectful keyboard warrior know nothing about being in an actual war. You're a disgrace.
@@jovanleon7 Get this idiot. I was marching against the war in Vietnam, among other injustices. Some of my friends chose prison, others just went there and died. The friend of my ex-husband committed suicide after his second child, also, was born with SEVERE deformations due to Napal. Heck, we even set fire to out universities ROTC. We got shot at, we were insulted and spit upon, we had cars driven agaist us, our newspaper's (against the war) building was set on fire twice. After, we had to take turns every night guarding the building, to make sure it did not happen again. The only lazy, good for nothing is some sicko who probably blames others for his fate. I spend my life from the time I was 12 fighting injusticed. My first one was in 6th grade, because our teacher was a terrible racist who hated all minorities, especially blacks. I'm very intelligent, and I decided to put her in her place. Got me kicked out of the classroom for 4 months, but not from the school, see the begining of the previous sentence, which I was fine with. When I finally got back to the classroom, she was treating everyone the same, as in not being such a bigot.
You still have anger issues. My father joined WWII when he was 16, with a permission slip from his mother. Found copy through the Freedom of Information Act. So I was an Army brat. Back in the seventies I live in a place with 3 bedrooms in NYC queens and my parents paid $215 a month and electric was $30.
And even into the early eighties rent was low.its just pure greed in today's world.
I agree.
❤❤
jaykace - rent increase by over 400% is definitely greed. You’re the one who needs to do research. & also, take a basic math class.
This should become a template for helping veterans and the homeless in every American city and town.
Yes especially provide for the homeless in the countries that were invaded by most of these vets. That is a more noble cause.
