Cornet is a tough player and has had some big wins, but this is a big upset, never would have guessed this would go this way. Well done by her! This may be the best I’ve seen her play ever, you could feel how bad she wanted it.
Cornet played with fantastic depth to upset Muguruza today. Reminded me of Wimbledon 2014 against Serena. I hope she makes it far.
I love this match. It is one of the bests in women's tennis. Cornet's straight-set win is beautiful. No 'roof-top' drama. Just beautiful tennis filled with beautiful rallies and winners.

Muguruza casi que no tiene variantes en el juego y se pone impaciente cuando las pelotas vuelven entonces suele cometer errores tontos no forzados o para salir de su propia presión toma decisiones equivocadas yendo a la red a pescar algo. Por otra parte no es una jugadora muy rápida de piernas y se cansa mucho si la mueven de lado a lado. A veces la veo hacer demasiados pacitos cortos, no entiendo muy bien esa técnica. Es una lástima porque tiene potencial y podría estar mejor. Creo que falla también el equipo.
Aaah por fin alguien que la apunta. Es exactamente eso. Mugu no tiene plan b. Juega solo de un estilo y cuando las cosas no salen como ella lo planeó, no tiene alternativa y no ajusta su niego durante el partido.

Muguruza is far too inconsistent, she never has a back up plan.
Kind of true but actually, for the past few months, she has been consistent. Muguruza won the final championship of the year last year, the 2021 WTA finals (where she beat Anett Kontaveit). Funny enough, Kontaveit lost her 2nd round match too, at this year's Australian Open. Muguruza also made it to the Quarterfinal round of the warm-up tournament, Sydney International, this year, leading up to the Australian Open. Mugurza is also a 2020 Australian Open finalist where she lost to Sofia Kenin. So I would say, over the past 2 years, Muguruza has been pretty consistent. She is a 2-time grand slam singles champion as well. The women's game is exciting because all players can bring their A-game. Since the Serena Williams era where the Williams sisters dominated tennis, these days, it is hard for players to qualify year after year in the Grand Slam tournaments. I hope that some up and coming young players will not sit back and enjoy their sponsorship money/brand deals but try to improve on their tennis game....LOL.

@@chaisedennis4920 Well she doesn’t always bomb at the slams because she’s won 2 already, which is more than can be said for the vast majority of the WTA outside of the era-defining stars like the Williams sisters, Osaka, etc.
But yeah, that’s the WTA in a nutshell these days - just incredibly inconsistent and an era where you can stand out from the crowd with just 2 slams.

La Muguis se le ve cansada, ya no es la misma de antes.
Muguruza fue un destello en su momento. Pero de ahí no pasó. Tiene potencia pero no le agregó a su juego más sutileza. Por ejemplo en el partido perdió un punto que por clavar con toda potencia le rozó en la malla. Si tenía a cornet en el fondo, solo con pasarla era suficiente. Muguruza, es el resumen de lo que la WTA es, inconsistente.

This year, 2022, Muguruza also made it to the Quarterfinal round of the warm-up tournament, Sydney International, leading up to the Australian Open so she had a few matches under her belt before the Aus. Open. Mugurza is also a 2020 Australian Open FINALIST where she lost to Sofia Kenin (and funny enough, Kenin lost in her 1st round match to Madison Keys at this year's Australian Open). So I would say, over the past 2 years, Muguruza has been pretty consistent. She is a 2-time grand slam singles champion as well (2016 French Open and the 2017 Wimbledon Championships). Today, she just didn't play as good as ALIZE CORNET. The women's game is exciting because all players can bring their A-game. CONGRATS to Cornet.
