    What a pocket rocket of a player she is, her game is outstanding she has patience, constancy, pace, precision, power, just enough to be a Grand Slam Champion, what a way to it after being down a set and 0-40 in the third, to save those 3 break points in a row all with long rallies and fitting winners at the end of them, with an ace at deuce (which Eurosport didn't show) and finish it off with another great rally and passing shot winner, to then cruise all the way not losing a game after that point, is absolutely champion stuff! Sonya deserves this title, congratulations to her!

  • @hill4252

    Biggest problem the womens game has is there are no great rivalries, back in the 80s/90s the criticism was the lack of depth but you had memorable battles between greats like Graf, Seles, Navratilova and Evert at the end of the tournament. There doesn't seem to be any greats after Serena, just players who can win one or two slams and cant be consistent. The grunting these days makes it completely unwatchable aswell, seems like it's used to distract and intimidate your opponent.

    • @martydav9475
      @martydav9475 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They all play the same way: backcourt grinders trying to grind or hit through their opponents from the back of the court.S.Williams won because of her brute power (legally acquired and maintained or otherwise), but her playing style was the same as all the rest.

    • @hill4252

      @@martydav9475 yes very little variety these days sadly

    • @martydav9475
      @martydav9475 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@hill4252 Yes indeed. I think it's been like that since the days of Tracy Austin and Andrea Yeager in the early eighties, I remember. I can really only recall Navratilova and Mauresmo(serve-and-volley); Graf(more of an all-round game) and, to a lesser extent perhaps, Henin (beautiful one-handed backhand) who tried to play in a different way. Most of the rest have been/are like clones: the names change on the scoreboard but the style of play remains the same. I thought it was fascinating to see Taylor Townsend (ranked outside the top 100 at the time) play serve-and-volley at the U.S. Open recently. It took her all the way to the last sixteen (in one of her matches she went to the net over a hundred times); an indication, perhaps, of what might happen if they risked it, and tried something different.
      I agree with you about women's tennis needing a rivalry.

That mistake is over hitting, she is unable to compromise and reign it in to progress her career.
