I had several of these for years, and they were gorgeous and great fish overall. As for the golden color, another fish that matched them was the male pseudocrenilabrus philander, which was my favorite fish (I only had one) and show fish for many years. It also had blue lips.

We have had a breeding pair of Golden Wonders (Pete & Gladys) for almost 4 years now. They are 2 of our favorite fish. They constantly breed and we take the fry out and put them in a grow out tank. Their favorite food is dried mosquito larvae which they absolutely love. They have been excellent community tank fish and have never shown any aggression to any other fish including Corydora fry which have been popping up recently since we got a female Panda Cory. If you have never kept the Golden Wonder I highly recommend them.

If you want alternative fish like golden panchax that less agresive is blue panchax, they are also a predatory fish but they usually prefer floaty pellet rather than chase smaller fish or shrimp in the tank

Dead flies went into my aquarium, perfect snacks for these fish

Yes, they helped a lot with any winged insect attracted to my HOB filter. Mosquitos, house flies, black soldier flies, gnats; all eventually go for the tank light and then to the HOB flow. Every time I saw this happen a panchax would be right there to grab them.

Sounds like a miniscule colourful pike. Maybe I should have gotten a pair of these rather than the singular paradise fish to keep down my guppy/endler fry. So far it has decided that neocaridina shrimplets are far tastier than fry.

My LFS sold me a pair when I first started out to go with my tank said they were good tank mates it killed my guppy’s and tetras. It was a 6ft planted tank! Turns out they are also known as killifish here.

I actually got a pair for this reason..... and they preferred decimating my shrimp gang rather than going after any of the fry. I had better luck in population control with the solo gourami until they inevitably died of bloat 3 months later.

Thank you for this informative video on this species. I have never heard of this fish. I wonder if it’s not as common in the US compared to Britain? Thanks for the video. As always beautiful footage and articulate profile.

I would be curious to learn if anyone who notices this comment has any experience with the "wrestling halfbeak." It is also mainly a surface dweller, and has a peculiar jaw structure (lower jaw is very long, like a needle). But I think it is smaller and might not eat as many tank mates. I only recently discovered them at a local shop.

the smallest fish in my tank are glowlight danios. Would those be in danger?
Also, could one feed them crickets?

Great video. What types of tetras do you recommend?
Are they ok with larger Gouramis and/or peaceful South American cichlids?
