I took my 1st Guitar lessons on a nylon string Folk Guitar when I was 11 the summer of 1965 from "Bob". I didn't know what his last name was & it wasn't till about 20 years later when I finally realized "who" my teacher 'was'/"is".
This song... as I'm sure may be the case with many .. came across a stereo while I was in the midst of a massive campus with a massive sea of humanity hungering for home knowing full well ..... I was already there. God BleSs JeRrY
Jerry’s plucking and silvery voice, with Bobby’s rhythmic lullaby never fails to pull at those deep heart strings that show you the wonders of nature in the smallest things
Gets me every time ! Every time I hear this song brings back memories of my favorite GD moments and my loved ones who are no longer with us ,,, rest in piece all , and thank you Jerry for giving us these precious memories

My favorite Dead song. My buddy who passed away recently, played the upright bass in our Jr. High band. He requested this song be played at his funeral and it was. Not a dry eye in the church.
I take solance in knowing that Jerry looks down at the current incarnation and sees 14 and 15 year old kids knowing every single word of the songs and has a big ole grin knowing the legacy won't ever die 😏
"If my words did glow with the gold of sunshine And my tunes were played on the harp unstrung Would you hear my voice come through the music? Would you hold it near as it were your own? It's a hand-me-down, the thoughts are broken Perhaps they're better left unsung I don't know, don't really care Let there be songs to fill the air Ripple in still water When there is no pebble tossed Nor wind to blow Reach out your hand if your cup be empty If your cup is full, may it be again Let it be known there is a fountain That was not made by the hands of men There is a road, no simple highway Between the dawn and the dark of night And if you go, no one may follow That path is for your steps alone Ripple in still water When there is no pebble tossed Nor wind to blow You who choose to lead must follow But if you fall, you fall alone If you should stand, then who's to guide you? Buy the video then instead of looking for a handout. Or just buy ad blocker service from TH-cam. The Dead charged for plenty, we bought Jerry that fancy black BMW he had (and he deserved it cause he worked hard)👍⚘🎸✌
This was the first (or one of the first) of Neil Young's Bridge Benefits, I believe. In all the years subsequent it was at Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View.
As much as any gospel hymn is a call of and from the heart to the mystical this is certainly a secular hymn that does the same. I'm rapidly on the way to 60 years on the Little Blue Marble so you would think I would have been a fan of The Grateful Dead long ago but I really wasn't. The nice thing about growing old is sometimes wisdom shines through at the most unsuspecting times. A dear, dear friend of mine sent me this song that comforted her in a time of dreadful need. Thought I might need some too. And like that, whaddaya know....I'm a fan of the Dead. After all these years. But.....isn't that just the revelation that comes from timeless talent waiting to be rediscovered or discovered at all ? And isn't revelation the wellspring of the mystical? "The fountain that was not made by the hands of man" ?
I simply mentioned Jerry Garcia in another video of Billy Strings Jamming. I suggested the camera should never be off the soloist. I then offered Jerry with the Dead as a caveat as his solos sometimes go on forever. Not criticizing, love Jerry's guitar. But the algorithm decided I should see some Jerry Garcia videos. I'm OK with that.
Jared Rigney it’s not this is just bob and Jerry the dead played it once earlier that year after a make a wish request for an ill child. www.setlists.net/?search=true&venue=&city=&state=&month=&day=&year=&songs=Ripple%0D%0A&submit=Search
I keep hearing all these cultural and social references in the dialogue of American TV shows about this band called The Grateful Dead or Jerry Garcia and how cool and significant and relevant they are. " I saw a Dead Head sticker on a Cadillac " from Don Henley's " Boys of Summer " Americans rave on about how great this band is. So I was thinking, wow, they must be very good. You can't imagine my disappointment when I listened to their ' Greatest Hits ' album. All their songs sound like a variation of themselves. Dull and boring attempts at Roots n Blues. I don't know what all the fuss is about. They re-confirm that I have exquisite taste in music

Just makes my day
It's great to see, but Jerry's voice is devastated at this point.
Let there be songs to fill the air...
One of my funeral songs. Favorite soulful song ever. Describes my life.
That path is for, your steps alone my friend
Great song to fulfill anyone's life
Thanks for the ride Captain!!

I'm not a Deadhead or religious in any way but somehow Ripple is one of my favorite songs of all time.
Keep digging further, it will change your life
Jerry looks so sad and worn out there.... I love Jerry and the Dead so much it hurts to watch him suffer. :(
It’s crazy to think he’s only 46 here.
This song gives me goosebumps

God, I miss him! Love to Robert Hunter, too. His lyrics give me chills, and tears, too.
Couldn't agree more. Miss them both.

RIP Gerry You may be gone, but NEVER Forgotten
I PLAYED THIS ALL THE TIME THE FIRST ALBUM, DROVE PARENTS NUTS LOL... BEAUTIFUL
This is like watching members of my family. I think everyone that grew up in the Bay Area feels this way. They're our cool uncles.
Jerry and Bobby - the best lead/rhythm combo ever? I think so
No question
Right up there at the top too, Keith Richards & Mick Taylor
There is nobody in the same universe as Weir when it comes to rhythm playing. He invented his style.
Thanks guys.

Extraordinary. I'm going out on a limb here and going to say I think Jerry was clean during this time.
You're kidding? He looks terrible and sounds like he's struggling to sing. Could be his weight. He is pretty heavy here
Jerry's sweatin like he's coming off a strong high.
Relatively sober at least lol. I hear ya

Jerry decided that night to retire the song. You can hear it in his voice. Almost a burial.
Saw Garcia and Grisman play it in 91. Beautiful rendition too with the mandolin
Simply awesome
This song was first sung to me a capella @ Hilo University of Music in 75. It came true right after.

They got a Ripple!!! Never did. Wow!

This can't be the right year for this show. Everything I have read online says the final Ripple was 9/3/88 at the Capital Center in Landover, MD.
