i know, time flies man, now i understand what someone once told me to enjoy life and take everything in because, it's so hard to get old. life is very short on the grand scale, and we only get so many good years. the first 25 to 30 years are figuring out who you are as a person and trying to have fun. after that, if you're lucky, you get about another 20 to 30 good years and trying to correct the mistakes you made in the past. then you can still enjoy life but at the end of those 30 odd years things go downhill from there, and the time is moving so fast that one day you wake up and realize your life could be over soon, and that you're becoming an adult child. for some reason i have always felt that we are not from this planet and that we should be able to live longer.

Lyrics: Oh, the streets of Rome are filled with rubble Ancient footprints are everywhere Well you could almost think that you're seein' double On a cold dark night on the Spanish Stairs Got to hurry on back to my hotel room Where I've got me a date with Botticelli's niece She promised, she'd be right there with me When I paint my masterpiece Oh, the hours I've spent inside the Coliseum Dodging lions and wastin' time Those mighty kings of the jungle, I could hardly stand to see 'em Well, it sure has been a long hard climb The train wheels runnin' through the back of my memory When I ran on the hilltop following a pack of wild geese Someday, life will be sweet like a rhapsody When I paint my masterpiece So I left Rome and I landed in Brussels On a plane so bumpy that I almost cried Clergymen in uniform, yes and young girl pullin' muscles Well, it should have been a long hard ride Newspapermen eating candy Had to be held down by big police Someday, everything is gonna be different When I paint my masterpiece Someday, everything is gonna be different When I paint my masterpiece When I paint my masterpiece
The line with Botticelli's niece is often replaced with pretty little girl from Greece. Who made that change, Dylan or other artists performing this song. Always wondered.
I saw John Kahn and Jerry shortly after Reckoning was release in Portland, OR. It was a small venue called The Neighbors of Woodcraft. What a treat. I am so blessed in many ways and shows having experienced.
you know I can't imagine one Dead song that's danceable but millions of Dead fans fans always find a way, no matter the best or tempo. I fricken love it.
Greatest and most danceable band EVER , " white Judith" and Tim Molina ! Nice intentions, hopefully a joke ? If not... Here's Just a few to help shake your bones, as you clearly aren't a Dead fan..Bertha, US Blues, Franklin's Tower, GDTRFB, Etc, etc etc!!!

Dang......we had some lush years...America.....wish my kids had that kinda youth ....... HAHAA!!!!!! Cuz WE SURE DID!!!!!!!!
This is actually pretty special. I really like how they were playing in the latter part of 1987. Sheer unbridled joy. This song hits a deep, deep chord with me. Perfect tune for Jerry and Bob: Sharing the pain and the joy in such an incredibly profound way.
i met Jerry backstage the night before this show. He really liked me and offered to guide me on my guitar pilgrimage. We became very close and he shared his deepest thoughts with me. I asked him to play this song for me. Miss u very much my dear friend. RIP Jerry!

I love this song. Especially bobby singing it
Lyrics:
Oh, the streets of Rome are filled with rubble
Ancient footprints are everywhere
Well you could almost think that you're seein' double
On a cold dark night on the Spanish Stairs
Got to hurry on back to my hotel room
Where I've got me a date with Botticelli's niece
She promised, she'd be right there with me
When I paint my masterpiece
Oh, the hours I've spent inside the Coliseum
Dodging lions and wastin' time
Those mighty kings of the jungle, I could hardly stand to see 'em
Well, it sure has been a long hard climb
The train wheels runnin' through the back of my memory
When I ran on the hilltop following a pack of wild geese
Someday, life will be sweet like a rhapsody
When I paint my masterpiece
So I left Rome and I landed in Brussels
On a plane so bumpy that I almost cried
Clergymen in uniform, yes and young girl pullin' muscles
Well, it should have been a long hard ride
Newspapermen eating candy
Had to be held down by big police
Someday, everything is gonna be different
When I paint my masterpiece
Someday, everything is gonna be different
When I paint my masterpiece
When I paint my masterpiece
