- After being relocated from Belgium to Africa, Simba is introduced to resident rescued lioness, Bella. Can the two of them provide each other with companionship that they deserve?
UPDATE Simba and Bella were eventually introduced to each other in June 2015 and now these two once-lonely lions have each other for company. Simba has had a vasectomy and Bella has a contraceptive implant (as we do not want another generation of lions born into captivity). We also need to keep space in our precious sanctuary so that more big cats are able to be rescued.

Simba looks very calm,gentle and majestic in spite of provocations by Bella...
Simba is a real gentleman, not showing any agression towards Bella but instead walks back and wait for her to come down.the poor treatments that she had to go through in Romania, so maybe Simba felt it too and decided to be kind.

Simba was a true gentleman. Bella is one tough cookie to have survived all she has in her life. She is not going to risk being overpowered easily or hurt again. Simba's strength & power could have easily overcome Bella no matter how much hell she tried to give him. He was truly a gentle giant to her and allowed her feel in control of the situation. Simba's heart is kind and compassionate even after the horrendous treatment. Thank you Simba, for being just who Bella needed....

Simba is a gentle giant, he really doesn't want to fight with anybody - I think you have a good match - fiesty Bella and gentle Simba! I have had many domestic cats in my life and they have similar behaviours when being introduced to a new cat. This was really awesome to watch and I hope they have many years enjoying each others company! Seeing Bella's eye and limp is sad because it shows the terrible cruelty she endured, so glad they can now both enjoy freedom and hapiness!
Humans have been for decades and continue to cause daily so much damage to nature and the animal world, it’s heartbreaking . She has a spine deformity & she has lost an eye, Lions do NOT like any animal to surprise them, with Bella she won't see a Lion on her blindside! That's why she was so vocal & seemed "fearless" so Simba won't "bully" her taking advantage of her disabilities! 2 beautiful cats & companionship! Wonderful!

Wonderfully Done! God Bless you, everybody! I think Bella is very sensitive about being (pardon the pun) blindsided, that is, having a threat appear on the side of her bad eye. I find it highly ironic that the by far most dangerous species of all is standing outside the cages, watching the lions - that's us.
Man, Bella gave him the paws. I'm glad that they are getting along better. You can't blame Bella for her behavior. She's had a much crueler and abusive past. She's got disabilities and that makes her feel uncomfortable. I'm glad that Simba is so laid back that he allows it and doesn't try to hurt her. Isn't Simba a rare type of lion? I read someplace that having such a large mane and it goes under his belly is unusual. Isn't Simba a Barbary Lion? If so, then they have a very special and rare lion. They are extinct in the wild. Simba is a beauty. Poor baby Bell, I hope her life gets so much better for her. And whoever hurt her is in jail or at least beat up.

You can see the love in them! Bella lost her eye bc she had Glucoma :( She was neglected. The other eye was saved thank God! Her spine is in bad shape. Poor baby! Im so happy they are safe loved and have eachother! Bless their lion hearts!

I remember going into the "Lion Room" at San Francisco Zoo, years and years ago, for the lion feeding. The gentleman who did the feedings then (since passed away) would have this cool rapport with the big male Lion where he would ask the Lion to roar, then louder, then louder etc... Then he'd feed him a huge slab of meat. The Lion's roar is the MOST awesome sound in nature! Especially when you're 15 feet away...
