In the UK, if someone invites you to a birthday party and the location is in the restaurant, you have to go with your money but if it is a house party the celebrant will take all the cost. And it is normal.

How is that the same thing? If you can't afford to buy the fuel you can just park the car it's not compulsory to use it, you can even sell the car and make profit.
But with the delivery wether you like it or not you will lose money as the recipient and depending on the gift and delivery fee it's sometimes nonsensical.
