You can buy repair manuals for these jet skis. I bought one for mine and it saved me a lot of money from having the dealer repair it. The manual shows how to check and repair everything on it, even how to rebuild the engine. Well worth the price to buy one.
The Seadoo has 3 2 stroke oil lines, one small one to each carb intake and one large one that goes to the bottom of the block. If you are going to premix the gas, you may not be getting enough oil into the bottom end. Engine may not run for long. Best bet is to restore the origional oil system. Good luck with them, they cleaned up nice
Really good video. Hope this means you will look for other nonrunning jet skis and make more videos just like this. I love seeing old skis come to life after being considered junk. Last year I bought a 2001 Yamaha XL800 for just $350, rebuilt it for next to nothing and it is my family's favorite.

That Yamaha xl800 was a score! Having trunk and frunk bins included is a little rare these days too! Just chiming in my .02. Not sure if its been mentioned but The dash only turns on when cranking and running and shuts off 10 seconds after stopped. Theres also an hour meter built in there too. One thing I didn’t notice in the vid, but if you crank the ski and don’t allow it to start, the power valve actuator should cycle a full open close stroke to clean the valve. I don’t think that unit has a catalytic converter, if it does, its pretty standard practice these days to remove it and install a cat delete plate (D-plate) also, if the previous owner has not done so, I highly recommend getting a set of Wave eater brand power valve clips. @Zyxalis thank u sooo much for all of the info!!! Yes later in the vid I got the dash working it shows 102 hrs the power valves cycle smoothly but will get some clips, im gonna do a topend rebuild also, I don’t think this one has a cat
Not sure if this was mentioned yet, but I had the same model (04 xlt 1200), and the dash turns on when you hit the start button, then turns off a few seconds after turning the motor off. If the motor is off, it normally won't stay on past a few seconds.
If the wave runner 800 is similar to my 760 there is a blue wire connection under the front storage bin that when you disconnect it and reset the code should enable the dash I believe. Once the ski is running you can plug the blue wire connector back together.
Sounds like you got a cracked Reed, oil injection is only a lil bit of a spurt, but if you delete it you save a few pounds, if you pull carbs on any 2 stroke, you should also be pulling and inspecting the Reeds and Reed cage as well since it's only a few more bolts to rem9ve since it's right behind the carb

I think something is broken between the battery and the low amp starting circuit, I would trace the positive from the battery through the low amp wires until you come to a break. The dash comes on bc the stator is powering it while charging the battery.
I do belive those zipties for the oil injection need to be a certain thickness to pinch the line. It seems like a crap design but it works well and usually the lines get hard and need replaced before zipties.
on tractors there is a ecm or computer chip...usual flat brake pad looking shape with wires going to it on bottom or edge of engine...sometimes under dash and causes your issue
Short on start button. 12v isn't going to Soleniod coil or coil is burnt and shorting. This would explain dim dash, Soleniod not activating, and start button not working. I think anyways

@@anthonyaneke7084 if there's a perfect way I don't know how to do it. I clean them real good with new OEM carburetor kits. I knew how many turns the fuel mixture screws went in so I knew where to turn them out to. I also did the Popoff pressure and I ordered fuel mixture screws with t handles. Other than that you just have to turn the throttle screw up. That's really a terrible design almost impossible to get to the fuel mixture screws while it's running with the exhaust on

Great video. Even though you had the Mikuni parts breakdown, I doubt you needed it as you have such intuitive skills. Were you tempted to fix the Seadoo oil injection pump? What do you do with the old gas? Some run it thru a coffee filter and use it in their fuel injected cars. That makes me nervous. I have no place that recycles old gas. Kind Regards, Craig
Thanks man yea I didn’t really need it but it’s cool they included it, I wanted to fix the oil inj on the sea doo put previous owner removed the oil tank and some parts 🤷. I usually mix in the old gas with a lot of fresh gas and dilute it and run it in cars like u stated, gas is to expensive to throw away unless it is just to far gone

I'm glad I cam across your video. I have a question, on the gtx after you put the carb back in noticed when you try to start it would just "thud" any idea why it's doing that? Getting my ass kicked on a 97 gtx, hard to crank especially with both plugs in
thank you!! well it could be a couple of things, solenoid could be bad, starter motor could be bad, it could be getting flooded very quick so make sure carb isn’t leaking and is set correctly, could be somthing internal like a bent rod also
@@The_Home_Pros it depends. I’ve only ever been able to rebuild one with a. New film on the display. The rest I’ve either noticed cared about or I bought a working. One off eBay
It would be great if you could source a new display for the dash - wouldn't have to be original if the size fit. I imagine all that's wrong with that screen is that it's old as LCDs degrade over time. Enjoy your videos, thanks.

@@The_Home_Pros I will. Glad you got the dash fixed. Didn't watch to the end. I had a motor scooter that had the same problem didn't want to start everytime. Oddly enough the cap on the spark plug was the problem.
For what it’s worth our 2002 780 Yamaha only has the dash come on when cranking yo start and then once it’s running. Can’t access Any info while it’s off and that’s it running fine.
Also our Yamaha really doesn’t like to start itself. Even running well it like carb fluid to help it start as the cranking for 10 seconds when it’s cold really taxes the battery. Once she’s warm starts just fine
@@The_Home_Pros they were both 119 psi dead on, battery powered cranks with no throttle while doing it. I’m usually looking for matching and over 120 with a mechanical starter. Some small boat motors with pull-start only register 105 unless you spin the flywheel with a drill. Consistency is key. Sometimes old motors will bring the compression up after the rings unstick
@@The_Home_Pros I’m almost certain it’s the carbs but I’m not a fan of pulling them if they’re capable of WOT, also I’ve never had a 2 stroke that enjoyed cold starting. It will start fine but I feel it doesn’t pump fuel fast enough without excessive cranking so we pop it off with carb cleaner to save 10-15 seconds of battery juice. These starters kill the small batteries the jetskis come with in no time. Even new and charged up.

Heck yes i wanna see part two ive got a jet ski a 98 yamaha 650vxr it was running good but has wierd issue with fuel turns right ok but left hand turns wants to cut out believe its something in fuel delivery.that and a small water hose popped off going to heads and went into limp mode,i rehooked it up now ok,wish someone could explain water sucking routing on these machines.snooky pa.
hey Allen check out my other vids on these if u want🙂🙂 thanks brother
I've got a bit of experience with those Yama 800 engines. Pain in the ass to fine tune those carbs.
thank you soo much Aaron!!
how to do adjust the idle??
@@anthonyaneke7084 if there's a perfect way I don't know how to do it. I clean them real good with new OEM carburetor kits. I knew how many turns the fuel mixture screws went in so I knew where to turn them out to. I also did the Popoff pressure and I ordered fuel mixture screws with t handles. Other than that you just have to turn the throttle screw up. That's really a terrible design almost impossible to get to the fuel mixture screws while it's running with the exhaust on
@@anthonyaneke7084 I think u have to adjust the cable to adjust the idle
Oven cleaner is also a good engine degreaser and a lot cheaper 😁👍🏼. I saw it being used on another channel a guy was working on his dozer
oh yea I’ve used it it works great
The 800 yamaha sounds like it has a broken skirt or bad rod/wrist pin bearing
I think I’m going to do a top end just to do it anyway
My yamaha that I just completely rebulit is the exact same as yours it's a 2000 yamaha xl800, and mine sounded the exact same as yours. I have good compression since everything is brand new but that's just how thease 800 motors sound honestly. A new top end and you'll have a blast on the yamaha
yes sir, do u kno a good place to get a new top end?
well done sir, are you a semi trained mechanic,. any way great video alot of work but so worth it in the end cool.
thank u very much Harry I’m glad u checked out the vid I really appreciate it!!
I have used old gas in my lawn mower, when I have restored old cars/bikes with old fuel in them. £100 lawn mower doesn't care!
@@andyclarke3895 yes I also use it in mowers as long as it doesn’t have junk in it
The whole dash thing on the yamaha is normal the dash wont come on untill you hit the start button or on some untill the engine is acually running
I tried that numerous times many different ways, this is a common problem on these dashes
seadoo mine when it starts acting up replace solenoid for some reason it fails just like that, every connection cleaned and inspected circuit many times and just replacing it solved the troubles
Thank u so much I was thinking the same thing!🙂
@@The_Home_Pros ya it cured my issues and it was outrageous to buy and no problems after it
@@kenfrazier616 that’s awesome man
Awesome that you got them working. Sometimes a little perseverance goes a long way. Especially for the great deal you got them for.
You got that right! thanks a bunch!!
how did u adjust the idle?? i thought it was under the airbox
it’s on the carbs u tighten the cable
A bro I tell everyone viniger mixed with dish soap is a very good degreaser cheap to you can mix a couple gallons in a sprayer
Thanks for the tip I’ll try that!
Where did you get the rebuild kit for the gtx??
I bought a new sleeve off ebay and put it in myself and had it bored at a machine shop to fit new piston. however there are rebuild kits on eBay you can buy
Fine job my man 😎
Much appreciated thank u
Just saw your video i herd you mention Jet works over in Alabama made you a key the guy that did it was his name Chad if so, he is a good friend of mine.
I think that was his name, he was the owner, I kept asking him to sell me his kubota lawn tractor lol
Excellent video! I’m picking up a SeaDoo basket case soon. Thanks for some good info!
Glad it was helpful! check out my other vids on them
Hey I’m rebuilding a 1998 seadoo gtx . I’d LOVE your input on a issue. I replaced the battery and a fuse got it to crank but won’t fully turnover . It did sit outside covered last winter. I was thinking or replacing the carbs.
Carbs are prob ok, if it’s not turning over then sounds like piston or somthing messed up in the engine, or maybe even starter
What is the premix on that fuel to oil? Is it 50 to 1?
I honestly can’t remember I think it’s 50:1 tho
Awesome video buddy. You are AC cousin im thinking 🤔👍😅
hahah we are very much alike lol
@@The_Home_Pros congratz on your success mate. You deserve it hands down. I wish you nothing but the best. You will do great. Keep posting videos like this and you will be set 👍
thank u so much andris!! I really wanted to have more riding footage but couldn’t work it in this vid, also I’ve been finishing up the skid steer got most of it painted and then I can finish my underground bunker lol
we are also both mostly italian
What diameter hose did you use and model, brand? thanks good job
it was off ebay I can’t remember but I think I used 1/4” for the fuel lines here is the link you will need different sizes for oil lines..ect but this is the best fuel hose I’ve used - www.ebay.com/itm/132891803793
@@The_Home_Pros thanksss !!
Yeah that lock tight is something else
sure is
I'm glad I cam across your video. I have a question, on the gtx after you put the carb back in noticed when you try to start it would just "thud" any idea why it's doing that? Getting my ass kicked on a 97 gtx, hard to crank especially with both plugs in
thank you!! well it could be a couple of things, solenoid could be bad, starter motor could be bad, it could be getting flooded very quick so make sure carb isn’t leaking and is set correctly, could be somthing internal like a bent rod also
i bought 13 of these seadoos this summer. displays are always junk the gtx should do 50 with a stock prop and good wear ring
that’s cool man!! so what did u do about the displays? can u fix em?
@@The_Home_Pros it depends. I’ve only ever been able to rebuild one with a. New film on the display. The rest I’ve either noticed cared about or I bought a working. One off eBay
thanks man 🙂
MM77 Approved 👍🏼👍🏼…………I’m starting to think you can fix just about anything!! LOL!
Hahaha well if I could only fix myself
It would be great if you could source a new display for the dash - wouldn't have to be original if the size fit. I imagine all that's wrong with that screen is that it's old as LCDs degrade over time. Enjoy your videos, thanks.
Those jet skis look familiar to me to. Did you get them out of Bainbridge, georgia by chance.
no I did get them in Alabama though
I’ve seen them on marketplace. Lol I was gone say bama but, here I found your comment that says so. Good video. I’m on the lake just about every weekend at Lake Martin with mines
@@crookedman9780 I actually bought these years ago but they have been stored at my parents house and now I’m finally fixing them
i bought one way back in 2010 from marketplace they said it never worked got home found out only spark plugs were needed and bam thing started up no issues bought for 100$ sold for 5k hehehe marketplace baby! 😁
Did you bleed line from oil tank to pump?
Great video... You make it all look so easy.. wish I had your talent.. .bee happy bee strong.
Thank u soo much!!, you too my friend 😊
Awesome content :)
Thanks!🙂🙂
I appreciate the video.
I appreciate you joe
Did ya make another video on the yamaha and seadoo
I’m in the process of making part 2 now, rebuilding the engines
@@The_Home_Pros very interesting can't wait your video was so good attension to detail 👍👍👍
@@mickotoole4795 thank u very much mick!!
My partner wants jet skis if I find one not working for a good price I will buy it and learn as I go when fixing it
Bring a compression tester w you, it’s the best way to determine the condition of the engine, im working on a part2 rite now rebuilding the engines on these skis
@@The_Home_Pros Great idea, then if I don't see any compression then move on
@@thefadebeta580 yes sir
Check your resistor caps on your spark plugs. See if they're broken inside.
check out my other videos rebuilding these if u want 🙂
@@The_Home_Pros I will. Glad you got the dash fixed. Didn't watch to the end. I had a motor scooter that had the same problem didn't want to start everytime. Oddly enough the cap on the spark plug was the problem.
Keep it up bro
Thank u so much man
Check the compression again now that you ran it. See if it improved.
I think it got worse
Awesome! Good work.
Thanks josh!!
Enjoyed this video
hey thanks man I appreciate it!!
Give me Disel Creek vibes ...love the videos.
thanks brother I really appreciate it!!
For what it’s worth our 2002 780 Yamaha only has the dash come on when cranking yo start and then once it’s running. Can’t access Any info while it’s off and that’s it running fine.
Yes but my start button wasn’t working either
@@The_Home_Pros that’s no dice. Made it halfway thru the video, did you ever get it key started?
@@74nova36 yes I did and got the dash and start working but I’m still gonna do a top end
@@The_Home_Pros 👏
Also our Yamaha really doesn’t like to start itself. Even running well it like carb fluid to help it start as the cranking for 10 seconds when it’s cold really taxes the battery. Once she’s warm starts just fine
Have u checked the compression it sounds a lil low
@@74nova36 you are very correct! I did however do another compression test and the rear cyl on the Yamaha is down to 60psi… time for a rebuild 😫
@@74nova36 yea mine were way off front was 115 and rear dropped down to 60 psi so I’m rebuilding the top end
