As a singer and voice coach, some people are just natural born singers. Some natural singers don't have no idea what they are doing when it comes to the mechanics, they are just in your face singers. Where as an opera singer they do focus on the mechanics. As we age, opera singer or not we definitely have to focus on the mechanics of singing. Patti was at her prime, I remember she said in an interview that she has never had vocal lessons. Patti knew she was a beast vocally.
