  • It was a while I haven't posted a Chopin Etude!
Actually, this etude is linked to an interesting experience that gave me the idea to open this channel.
I had started studying op. 25 no. 9 in the last days of December 2022, and it was the first step for challenging me with an ambitious quest at the start of 2023: making my best to learn as many Chopin op. 25 etudes in a month, possibly all of them (not counting op. 25 no. 12 since I had it in my bag since my teenage years).
I had studied op. 10 when I was a kid, but I never bothered studying op. 25 except for no.12, which has always been my favourite Chopin etude.
Op. 10 was representing my childhood, so op. 25 would have been my adulthood. I was curious to see what I could do giving myself a month of time, and I was very excited about this challenge.
The initial videos of the channel were aimed to document my journey trough learning op. 25. Anyway I changed my mind about it very soon since I wasn't satisfied with the quality of those videos, I decided to make them private and just started sharing overhead piano playing + music sheet videos. I stuck to my challenge though, and ended January with a more than satisfying result: I had "learned" op 25 no. 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8 and 9, while I was missing 5, 7, 10 and 11, having learned them only partially.
Of course, they weren't recital level ready, but I had memorized them and could play them at a decent level having solved the main technical difficulties. That challenge taught me a lot of valuable lessons, but I somehow lost interest in completing op. 25 after that.
Lately, I restarted studying it after some months, trying to record them and complete it like I did for op. 10. Actually I've an almost 9 months old short with me playing this etude uploaded on the channel ( • 🦋 Butterfly Etude 🦋 #s... ), and somehow I think my technique and also interpretation was better there, more natural. Somehow I really think too much study is counterproductive. I got so crazy trying to bring this etude at a level I was satisfied with, but perfectionism is a tough beast to live with and I gotta learn to let it be. This is the best I can do right now, and it's ok. It will probably get better if I stop studying it and let it rest. The best has yet to come, and other etudes are waiting to make me work even harder.

I'm almost 67 years old now and started playing on my grand piano four years ago. Hopefully, I will live long enough to be able to play this piece one day. But I probably started playing the piano much too late. You play absolutely wonderfully. I'm getting quite jealous! 🙂Greetings from Germany!

      Thank you very much!
I wish you to be able to play this piece if that's your desire. It probably won't be easy at all, but giving yourself ambitious challenges is a very stimulating thing to do and hopefully it will help you to get better 😁

      Es ist nie zu spät😊
Es ist sehr begeisternd zu sehen, wie man trotz seines Alters lernt und dem Willen des Herzens folgt. Viel Erfolg👍👍👍

Im not sure if this is a question or not but the numbers above the notes in the treble clef are sort of like a guideline to show which fingers to use to hit those notes. You don’t necessarily have to follow these guidelines but they definitely do help.
For example: in the beginning, after the first Bb note, the next notes are a Gb and a Bb(octave higher) and the numbers above are 4/2 which means you can strike the Gb with your second finger(index finger) and the Bb with your 4th finger(ring finger) and so on and so forth.

how do you play soft? With fast speed it's hard for me to play softly, moreover using pedal. how do you do it?

I'm not sure how to explain it since it comes natural with a lot of practise but I'll try: you need to play with your wrist and your arm and not be too tense. The movement has to start from the wrist, not from the fingers.
You can't probably play soft while playing fast because you're thinking to start the movements from fingers articulation, try to change that.
