For what the 170 is capable of, the power it has for the weight and the durability coupled with the cost of it….completely and totally unbeatable combination, a true knockout punch to the “entry level” class of saw. As far as chaps go….an absolute MUST!! Good info and perspective.
I have been heating with wood for a large portion of my life. The last 12 years I’ve used the ms290 farm boss for felling and logging and the ms170 for trimming. I run a 12” bar on mine and it’s by far the best trim saw I’ve ever owned. I have a few others that never come out.

I really like that video. good job making it too. I recently bought an MS 170 and that's what I needed to see, how it is for performance. From what you said and from why I bought it just as a homeowner with a regular job that has nothing to do with chainsaws. I think it's going to be the Perfect saw 👍

those saws are good for fire wood. i own 12 professional saws that i use for massive trees and for fun but for the last 10 years me and my father just take the two 170s and cut about 8 cords with them every april. you can drop a good size tree with a 16 inch bar. people think its small buts it perfect for firewood hunting.

I’m just clearing my property that already has down trees for the clearing of the house and power poles but some are some monster trees so I figured I would join you all on my journey to clean cut split stack it all thanks for the info👍

Put a 14 inch lightweight bar and non safety chain. These are dam good trim saws.

Who made the non safety chain? I heard that stihls green chain was the only thing out there for the 180
