Here in Canada Kia has great warranty 10 years and 160K Km on battery electric drive and 100k km and 5 years on balance of vehicle. Our 2020 Kia Soul EV limited with the 64kwh battery has over 115K KM and not one problem other than the 12 volt battery which we replace on the 14 month from delivery with a good quality AGM glass mat battery.
Thank you a thousand times for mentioning how to turn off overspeed warning. This is nowadays critical information in car reviews but hardly ever mentioned! Keep up the great work! 🙏👍
Always strange anyone describes a car with 250+ miles as a 'city car'. You can easily tour with even the low spec EV3. It's a great allrounder (as is the 58kwh ID3).
Having done mulitple big trips (4500+ km return summer trips, 2500+km return winter trips) in both the 2020 M3 SR+ (wltp 409km) and ID3 pro (wltp 430km) I have to agree. ID7 Pro S with heatpump that has 700km range is only 3 hours faster (according to abrp) over 1300km in winter then our old ID3 Pro with 430km range and no heatpump. For those one or two big trips a year we might take I think that is fine :)
I have a to do a 300 km trip once or twice per month on my Renault Megane etech with 470km wept and it’s a pain! I would do that direct with my 308 diesel with no issues. Now I charge in destination and in each leg… It’s boring and annoying
Of course, done one in my Niro EV and with a ICE car we would also stop every 1-2 hours to stretch our legs and we basically do the same with the Niro except it is also charging
That looks like an improved Kia Soul EV, but with better tech and improved range in the larger battery pack. I find my 2020 Soul EV to have more than enough power, the EV3 charge port is not so friendly for North American markets Tesla version 3 supercharger that are opening up in early 2025. Chartering speed is ample as we have used our Kia Soul EV on lots of 1200km road trips and it's slower charging rate was not too detrimental, so 10 to 30% in 30 minutes is more than acceptable. The front wheel drive is much better for regen control in our Canadian winters.
I’m surprisingly liking the design of the EV3 - it seems a really well appointed car for the market it’s aiming at! Loving the picture quality from your DJI cameras btw - really sharp picture and the colours are excellent (I notice this as I’m thinking of an action pro like your forward facing one!). Do you do any colour or sharpness enhancement in post? Any chance of a new Thomas Tech Talk channel with you sharing your camera setup details? 😂
well they are astonishing as for the size, what needs to be done is a) film with ND filters depending on the situation in professional sense, ofc not needed when filming private, b) post-pro reduce white brightness depending on image when if the camera did too much white. Thats basically it, but I only do that effort to optimize the viewing comfort / quality impression since it's always my approach to make the best product for every individual viewers, for private purpose I would just take it as it is as its fine
@@autogefuehl ahh thx so much Thomas! This is really useful - I really appreciate it. I’ll make a note of this! You can tell that you care about the quality of the image - they are always sharp and clean and as you say very comfortable to watch for the viewer. I’m sure many, like I, appreciate the care that you film them with! 😊
It's definitely not. I looked at the Kia EVs and the interior quality is pretty bad which is odd because the interior quality in the ICE cars aren't that bad. I went for a iX1 because it has the best interior quality and felt more finished. The EQA was nice but felt like the cheap car in the lineup. I liked the XC40 too but it just didn't feel premium enough for the money I was paying (even though logically that was the better choice).
You went BMW for the brand. That interior quality is bullshit. Got check the EV6 in a snowroom, drive it and hit every interior part with your fist in your BMW and the EV6. EV6 is solid as a rock. Yes it doest not have some stupdi "fancy stiching" for some old money dude. Kia is not trying to be an old history book, its writing it.
My partner just ordered the GT Line spec. I was pleasantly surprised at the price/trim level. Having a Q4 Etron myself, I prefer mine but Audi have gone crazy with pricing recently so probably my last Audi too. The EV5 could be very promising.

I currently have a Peugeot e-208 (2021) I love it but, I'm getting a buyers remorse, but it was my first EV so I didn't know much about them, but now I do. I'm really getting interested in this EV.
My point is that in the standard position there is only about 1 cm missing so the trolley could fit vertically, thats a flaw in design and could have been easily fixed.
Hi Thomas, great review as always, thank you! Was wondering if you could please also start showing how the lights indicating rear gear engaged look? In some cars (eg latest 7series) they are tucked way too low where it’s not always visible from the car behind and this flaw should be pointed out to the manufacturers as well in my opinion
I find it a bit misleading to cite the range you got from driving mostly on the autobahn in wintertime as the real-world range when in almost all other reviews you have done, you derive the figure from mixed driving. Most EVs with similar battery size and with similar shape will end up in the 350 km ballpark when driven at 130 km/h. In other videos on TH-cam, the longest range Tesla Model Y with identical WLTP range achieves about the same range in the same conditions. That is not considered a "city EV".
this was mixed driving and as u saw for like 1300 km. Of course, in summer time and with rather low city speeds, range will be better, always depends so much on the conditions. With the Teslas, I have scored better numbers also in winter times though
@@autogefuehlthe Teslas are likely more slippery. It's difficult for me to say the proportions that were autobahn vs city/countryroad, but if they were higher autobahn, it would be especially unforgiving probably due to the somewhat boxy shape of the car.
@@autogefuehl I did a test drive of 450km in norhtern Finland with the 81,4kWh with 19" winter tyres (GT-Line) now when its -10 degrees centigrade. I did it on 1 battery without having to charge and it was mostly 100 and 80 zones. Mainly 100 zone.
For me, matrix LED is the best new feature of cars. It’s save, it’s helpful, and it’s fun to look at it work. I will never buy a car without it anymore.
Another great test!! 👏👏👏👏 About the car, the "beeps" in this one are very annoying... 🙈🙈🙈 Kia could copy Renault in this regard, as these sounds in my Renault Megane eTech are very soft and pleasant 👍👍
At the end of the spine, the last section of bone is generally known as the Tail-bone, or medically the coccyx (pronounced “cox ix”) ... it's part of a slightly larger section of fused small bones known collectively as the sacrum where the end of the spine connects to the “pelvis” ie part of the larger hip bone.
Princess L & T, I hope your Xmas was good - and I wish you both a Happy New Year. Re: anatomy - I think you mean the Tailbone (Coccyx) - pronounced CokSix. Thanks for another year of great content… and, one question, are the two of you now too well-known in Germany to be able to visit your local Thermen Spa in comfort?
You are in winter. Expect +20-25% additional range in summer. I have an ioniq5 with 73 kWh, which makes 300 km in winter and 400 km in summer, for a WLTP of 330 km.
I liked the EV3 and have recommended it to firends looking for smaller family EV. I needed something a bit larger that was available a bit sooner but this like the Elroq is a solid vehicle if you can handle the smaller size.
@@DFowlesID7 It honestly does not feel that small when you drive it. The wheelbase is the same as the Sportage, and the interior space is, if anything, even better due to the dedicated electric platform.
@@marketingwizdom Small being the small size of the boot rather than the internal space which was pretty good. My definition of roomy for a new car is based on the ability to get golf clubs and kit in the boot !
I like the look, the power is ok and my experience with Kia is good but i would like if they made rwd. Would choose the Kia ower the ID3 any day, just for towing capacity.
The "battery conditioning" setting is not the manual DCFC preconditioning function. It's for controlling whether the battery is warmed at all during driving or DC charging. It is necessary to enable that setting to precondition for DC charging, but the preconditioning must be activated separately.
@@autogefuehl There should be a button to activate preconditioning manually on the "Electrical Vehicle" screen. As with all e-GMP vehicles, the built-in navigation will also trigger preconditioning 20 minutes before arrival at a known DC charger (but only at or above 20% SoC).
I have asked Kia official and they have said that the screen I have showed directly activates the preheating of the battery manually. Not sure, I will search the entertainment system, myself even further.
@@autogefuehl It's possible that my knowledge is out of date. The button I am thinking of shows up on the second screen of the main "Electric Vehicle" screen with the leaf icon on its tab. That button might do the same thing as the one in the settings menu.
That reference to the lack of seat support at the very base of the spine - hmm, I thinm Thomas is referring to the Coccyx or Tail bone - the remnant of what used to be our tails.
Oh yeah, I do know that one. Curiously, I mentioned to a friend that his new Nissan Leaf front seat was causing me discomfort right there. This happened only recently.
The starting prices always look good on these. But as soon as you add some options that I consider musts (e.g. Heatpump) and opt for higher trim levels, they start to compete with Tesla model 3s. And if you don't mind Tesla, that's becomes a tough sell
Anyone think the info display could be bigger - easier to view all the functions, can watch media when charging, maps show much more when travelling etc.
I found your various language channels, but could not find the dubbing feature. They were all in english, how do I engage the dubbing option in a different language? Cheers!
All language channels are linked in the video description. They have voice over, AI dubbing or subtitles directly on the video. We do not use the TH-cam dubbing feature since it is very bad so far, but we also dont need it. Which language are u looking for?
Love your reviews, love this car. Very futuristic. But I wish automakers would STOP trying to reinvent the volume knob. The basic knob cannot be improved upon.
I had a look at both recently. The EV3 has slightly less space in the back for passengers (hence it is labelled a B-segment vehicle) but in other aspects has better tech. than the Niro, which is still a good car, but more expensive.
@@autogefuehl I don't believe any native English speakers know them as ischial tuberosity or even "sit bones." I think just saying the "pelvis" is sufficient. We knew what you were trying to say. Anyways, thank you for the biology lesson. I always learn something new every time I watch your videos. 😊
I guess the word you’re looking for is sitbone, gets sore over time when not cushioned right…(noticed you moved forward in the seat, trying to get more comfortable).
You noticed how the Elroq may have more features which is doesn't. The EV3 as standard comes with more features then the cheapest tier Elroq. I found the software of Kia to be a bit more sophisticated then VWG's infotainment, if you add the options to make it comparable to the EV3 you are paying way more.
I find that Teslas one pedal drive is most intuitive to use and don't get why other manufactures have to complicate things with regeneration levels and pedals. Just copy Tesla or at least provide a similar mode. I hate the default of no regen and creep mode as I try to use the brakes as little as possible in my current manual diesel car.
Does the regen mode/iPedal remember its setting when going from reverse to drive? I have an Ioniq 5 and that's one of my biggest annoyances; every time you go into reverse it reverts back to 0 regen and if I forget or don't notice then it's really unsettling and can be dangerous
Skoda Elroq 60 for me bc it IMO looks like a nice practical SUV and drives really silent like a EV car and I get the 5 year (150.000 km.) warranty for free here in Denmark 😎
@ Most Hyundai and Kia models that I am familiar with, as well as other cars I have driven, have two levels for the boot floor. In the lower level the capacity is much greater so I always keep my floor at the lower level because it provides so much more accessible space. If you had moved the floor to its lower level you would have had no problem carrying the suitcases you wanted beneath the parcel shelf.
It would be interesting to see you actually take a coffee cup from that very low holder and see how awkward it would or not be. Looks too low. Odd decision to focus on a moveable shelf and take away storage - especially as door pockets are slim. The inside looks ok but they are certainly doing everything for a price.
I've been driving one. It annoyed me to no end, that the climate screen is hidden behind the wheel. I mean.. come on. 😅 Also the suspension was too soft for my liking. So yeah - go drive a car before buying.
It’s not the most exciting car but really, it has everything a compact crossover EV needs. Definitely one to put on the shortlist! (Sorry wrong channel)
It's a bit of a myth that Germans drive on average very fast. It's not that many roads where you can drive fast and traffic often restricts that anyway.
@@AlanTov when I'm in Germany the autobahn is very near and we use it very often to visit some places. But to go downtown we normally use the metro or bus.
Shame this wasnt the top spec, belive its different seats with heating and cooling for both front seats, and heating in the outer back seats. Also a different steering wheel I tryed the backseat of the EV6 and its to small for me, need atlest be abil for me to sit back there, 2hen driverseat is sett to my lengt (1.91m)
Charging port location should be on the rear left. This will allow cars to use all of Tesla's Superchargers. Manufacturers should agree on a standard, so the chargers don't have to accommodate all variations.
@autogefuehl wallboxes or other AC chargers have long cables, so it doesn't really matter where the charge port is. Additionally, the one at home can likely be placed wherever you want it to be.
In Europe in the city's when you park at the street, the chargers are normally on the right side... If you have the charger on left the risk of someone damaging it because he is driving too close is very high.... So Tesla should have designed their cars with this in mind or outfit their chargers with longer cables.
Why would anyone risk buying any overpriced VAG product given the current financial issues, getting rid of over 30k employees and running 3 factories at 50% or less output, and a stockpile of cars being stored.
I think it's a nice car but... the lack of hidden storage and armrest space is a deal breaker for me. I don't want to work in my car, I want to leave my stuff out of sight and have a functional family vehicle (and no, the glovebox is obviously not enough).
I believe that in the UK at least, the base "Air" spec loses the silly pull-out board gimmick and has a more sensible storage box under the armrest. I suspect most people would rather have the storage.

You are in winter. Expect +20-25% additional range in summer. I have an ioniq5 with 73 kWh, which makes 300 km in winter and 400 km in summer, for a WLTP of 330 km.
I think most people would use the sliding table to have a coffee and a sandwich.
Actually usedul to avoiding spilling stuff on your lap or seats.
I liked the EV3 and have recommended it to firends looking for smaller family EV. I needed something a bit larger that was available a bit sooner but this like the Elroq is a solid vehicle if you can handle the smaller size.
Enjoy!
Can we get a side by side comparison of the Elroq and the EV3? Many people are probably still deciding between these two cars.
I like the look, the power is ok and my experience with Kia is good but i would like if they made rwd. Would choose the Kia ower the ID3 any day, just for towing capacity.
Are these alloys on this car coming to the UK?
The "battery conditioning" setting is not the manual DCFC preconditioning function. It's for controlling whether the battery is warmed at all during driving or DC charging. It is necessary to enable that setting to precondition for DC charging, but the preconditioning must be activated separately.
In the infotainment it says “when setting a charging station as destination or can be enabled manually”
Where is that “turned on manually” then?
That reference to the lack of seat support at the very base of the spine - hmm, I thinm Thomas is referring to the Coccyx or Tail bone - the remnant of what used to be our tails.
actually was rather referring to the sit bone :)
@@autogefuehl Pelvis? Never heard of the sit bone. But OK.
ischial tuberosity
@@autogefuehl Cool. I'll look that up. 🖖
Musk is gonna try very hard to break up the European Union project. So there’s that
I enjoyed watching the video review, will be a popular choice In Germany 😊
Cheers m8!
You can also hang your groceries on the back of the seat, if you don’t have a Sakko. 😉
The EV3 is 1.5cm (0.6") longer than a VW Golf and 7cm (2.7") taller than the Golf. Maybe the EV3 is a taller than average hatchback car.
For the same cabin, an EV is typically taller than an ICE equivalent to accommodate the battery. An ID.3 is 4" taller than a Golf.
Having the charge port on the front right side is a pain for narrow garages.
You can to try park in reverse
@@JohnDoe-o5v Then opening driver door gets difficult.
Keep volume down key to mute all alarm sounds.
Not all sounds, just the speed warning
Anyone think the info display could be bigger - easier to view all the functions, can watch media when charging, maps show much more when travelling etc.
I found your various language channels, but could not find the dubbing feature. They were all in english, how do I engage the dubbing option in a different language? Cheers!
All language channels are linked in the video description. They have voice over, AI dubbing or subtitles directly on the video. We do not use the TH-cam dubbing feature since it is very bad so far, but we also dont need it. Which language are u looking for?
"Coccyx" is the name of the tailbone that you were talking of.
Meant the sit bone
Love your reviews, love this car. Very futuristic.
But I wish automakers would STOP trying to reinvent the volume knob.
The basic knob cannot be improved upon.
Thank you so much! Please recommend / share our channel and our videos 🙏
yeah agree
The review should mention Kia plans an awd Ev3 when comparing g this based model to the Skoda awd.
Which is quieter on the road, road noise. Elroq or ev3?
We call it a "tail bone" in the uk . Refering to the base of your spine. Great review as ever.
Thanks! I mean the sit bone
Curious how this compares to Kia's direct cousin, the Niro EV. It seems like there's a lot of overlap between the two.
I had a look at both recently. The EV3 has slightly less space in the back for passengers (hence it is labelled a B-segment vehicle) but in other aspects has better tech. than the Niro, which is still a good car, but more expensive.
no the Niro shares the foundation of its gasoline version.
EV3 is a "pure" EV.
Very nice friends. Be careful for Lea.
Leah's little sigh at 0:08 - '"Again with the B-roll Thomas" 🤣
😂
Coccyx is the tailbone. 😊
I mean ischial tuberosity
@@autogefuehlthe “sit bones” then, the parts of the hips that support the body weight when sitting down
@@autogefuehl I don't believe any native English speakers know them as ischial tuberosity or even "sit bones." I think just saying the "pelvis" is sufficient. We knew what you were trying to say. Anyways, thank you for the biology lesson. I always learn something new every time I watch your videos. 😊
I guess the word you’re looking for is sitbone, gets sore over time when not cushioned right…(noticed you moved forward in the seat, trying to get more comfortable).
ischial tuberosity it is 😎 guess sitbone could be said casually?
@ : in layman’s terms yes 😊
You noticed how the Elroq may have more features which is doesn't. The EV3 as standard comes with more features then the cheapest tier Elroq. I found the software of Kia to be a bit more sophisticated then VWG's infotainment, if you add the options to make it comparable to the EV3 you are paying way more.
How width in the rear seats? Thanks
Turning Circle of EV3 is 10,4m, which is a good one...but the Elroq is even better with 9,3m...for comparison...Model 3...12m
I find that Teslas one pedal drive is most intuitive to use and don't get why other manufactures have to complicate things with regeneration levels and pedals. Just copy Tesla or at least provide a similar mode. I hate the default of no regen and creep mode as I try to use the brakes as little as possible in my current manual diesel car.
what trim level is that? looks like a mix of Air and GT
called Earth in Germany
4:10 so sweet moment :))
☺️
@autogefuehl What glasses frames do you have? I am looking to get something similar. Thx
Monoqool its called!
Is it EGMP?
Thomas ready to go downhill snowboarding in Alpendorf 😂

Does the regen mode/iPedal remember its setting when going from reverse to drive? I have an Ioniq 5 and that's one of my biggest annoyances; every time you go into reverse it reverts back to 0 regen and if I forget or don't notice then it's really unsettling and can be dangerous
It does remember.
@MyFuzzyAfterlife that's good to hear. Wonder if it can be ported to the Ioniq
Skoda Elroq 60 for me bc it IMO looks like a nice practical SUV and drives really silent like a EV car and I get the 5 year (150.000 km.) warranty for free here in Denmark 😎
So the pricing of VW Group is not that bad huh? Interesting.
Unfortunally do not have Open roof that why i do not buy it ....cheers from Lisbon 🇵🇹🇩🇪
This what people should buy rather than Chinese vehicles
You can get more height in the boot in about 2 seconds by sliding the floor into the lower position.
Ye i just wondered why they made the standard position exactly in a height where the trolley just doesn’t fit vertically because 1 cm is missing
Bone hump = coccyx (AKA tailbone), I presume.
ischial tuberosity it is 😎
Hi, Which model is this? the plus advanced?
Earth trim it is called
@@autogefuehl Ah funny, here in NL we have the Air > Plus > Plus Advanced > GT....
I guess thats Plus then
But not sure what is different plus vs plus advanced
It would be interesting to see you actually take a coffee cup from that very low holder and see how awkward it would or not be. Looks too low. Odd decision to focus on a moveable shelf and take away storage - especially as door pockets are slim. The inside looks ok but they are certainly doing everything for a price.
Yeah good point
I've been driving one. It annoyed me to no end, that the climate screen is hidden behind the wheel. I mean.. come on. 😅
Also the suspension was too soft for my liking.
So yeah - go drive a car before buying.
Tuber ischiadicum = Sitzbeinhöcker :)
It’s not the most exciting car but really, it has everything a compact crossover EV needs. Definitely one to put on the shortlist! (Sorry wrong channel)
Anything other than Tesla is a great buy! This one especially!
Couldn't argue with that. Tesla/Musk are toxic brands at this stage
An even better buy would be anything that's not a crossover-SUV
🤡
You have now been banned from X
@RatKing59 haha Musk would do that 😂
Are EVs a good idea for Germany? Because I always heard that fast speeds drain the battery very fast. Is it true? (I have no ev)
yeah that reduces the range significantly unless it is very aerodynamic, then it is better but still a factor
The number of times I’m hearing real buttons nowadays - the bar has been set so low by these manufacturers in the name of maximising profit.
Charging port should be on the driver side. Ask Teslabjörn 🙂, it's a rule!
Kia is killing it ❤
super cool car. I really what KIA are doing. on my EV short list. thx
Shame this wasnt the top spec, belive its different seats with heating and cooling for both front seats, and heating in the outer back seats. Also a different steering wheel
I tryed the backseat of the EV6 and its to small for me, need atlest be abil for me to sit back there, 2hen driverseat is sett to my lengt (1.91m)
Charging port location should be on the rear left. This will allow cars to use all of Tesla's Superchargers. Manufacturers should agree on a standard, so the chargers don't have to accommodate all variations.
this vehicle however is in 3/4 or more cases charged at home at a wallbox, so it rather depends on the wallbox location
@autogefuehl wallboxes or other AC chargers have long cables, so it doesn't really matter where the charge port is. Additionally, the one at home can likely be placed wherever you want it to be.
@autogefuehl but great review btw :)
Why not make the chargers to be compatible with both instances. Much simpler like with ICE cars
Compared with Lexus UX, Infiniti QX30, Acura ZDX & Others Subcompact SUV
This beeping frenziness though...
Latex pants is the choice to ride in the EV 🤣
always the best
Shtulhu can actually be Chtulhu :).. then he is well protected.
How is it compared to Hyundai Kona EV? Nobody seems to compare it with Kona? Is Kona dead now? :)
Maybe because with the new kona they increased the car size and might not directly compare to this one, but I could be wrong
⚰️
I would anticipate the Kona and Niro going away and becoming an Ioniq 3/EV3
Hey Thomas, short question. Can you tell me if the EV3 has Matrix LED or not?
Guten Rutsch wünsche ich noch ins 2025
No matrix led. Guten Rutsch! 😎
I believe there's a 4wd coming with 300 hp on it.
