We are a full EV household since 2021. Many journeys with the Kona (126,000 miles so far) to Europe and across the UK - in summer the range is PERFECT, with 40ish mins break each just right for breakfast, lunch & afternoon tea to complete a full day of driving / appr 600 miles; You wouldn't really want to do more with a family of 4.
However, with the EV3 this will probably be achievable also in WINTER and with much more luggage space!
Exciting car and great reviewed, thank you :)!

It’s good to see that Kia are listening to customers and it’s now 1 push of a button to get rid of the warning bongs and not 3/4 through the touch screen. I love the car. Will look forward to you doing a range test in U.K. Keep the videos coming. I love them.

I bought a three year old e-Niro earlier this year - my first EV. I tend to change my cars every four or five years, so a three year-old EV3 is probably in my future. Monthly costs work out at about a third compared to a new lease.

Amazing how far we’ve come. 0-100 in 8 secs is fast. Faster than you need a family car to be, yet we think its slow

I've been driving a Kia Soul EV since January 2022 and am almost at 20,000 miles. It's my only car. I've not used public charging and have done 240 miles in a day without issue, although most of the time I'm doing much less than that. That's against a WLTP range of 280 miles.
The EV3 is certainly something I'll test drive when I'm looking for the Soul's replacement. The looks are fine, but I'm not sure on the interior with relatively low air vents and the poorly positioned climate screen.
The one feature it is really missing is a heated windscreen to help with demisting, given the heated seats and steering wheel, a heated windscreen would seem to be something thst could help efficiency in the real world.

I also have a Niro EV and i dont like the absence of storage under the elbow in the EV3 the only option being the glove pocket which is not safely accessible while driving. I have had a good look at the car in my Kia garage and I was underwhelmed by the notion of it being a 'new' car.

E-niro 4+ owner since 2021 here and its our only car. In my time of ownership its done 100k miles and lost 3% of its battery capacity, which Im well happy with. Public charging is so much better than back in 2021. Zap-map stats show over 70k public chargers now in the UK.
Whats crazy is that I could buy mine for £16k now and that has to be such a fantastic buy.

I promised myself that I wouldn't watch any more PP videos but this followed on in my feed after watching a fully charged video the EV3. Having had an EV for almost 4 years and doing over 20,000 miles a year in the UK and across Europe in my EV, you don't need to be brave to own an EV. Setting aside the environmental issues, I have saved a fortune and it is the best car I have had for my (relatively normal) use.

A good review of a proper car for tomorrow. No need for that second car, unless you need two. It's nice to see that you have got the point about cable storage.
As someone who has driven EV for nearly exactly 11 years I have found that for my life style just over 200 miles winter range is sufficient day to day, with longer journeys easily possible. A two thousand jaunt around Scotland last year was without problems, whilst more local trips are a doddle. Last week we went to Milford on sea for lunch on Monday, Marketday in Bridport on Wednesday, Lunch in Swanage onThursday together with trips to the New Forest for Ice Creams. Home is in Havant. Today we had lunch in Milford on Sea, after our morning shopping trip.
My two year old EV now has 46772 miles on the clock, with a current cost per mile of 1.95pence per mile. Will I ever go back to a 19th century engine design. No chance!

I did not always agree with Top Gear, but they got it absolutely right about French cars. Every few decades they concentrate and make the best, most interesting and affordable cars in Europe. It looks, to me, like we may be in one of those rare decades again (last seen in the late 70s/early 80s when Renault was great and Peugeot suddenly came up with the 205 GTI, 405 etc. as absolutely sensationally good cars for the time. Even Citroen seems slowly starting to care again.
That said, I bow to the Koreans too for making life more interesting with their current push by the Kia/Hyundai siblings with things that are not JUST another take on the +70k€ SUV segment.

The EV Scenic and Megane have the best user interface of the market. Far superior to Tesla and other. The Scenic is the 3rd generation of Renault EV. The DC charge is a little bit slower than 800V Korean cars like Ionic 5/ EV6, but still decent and on the par with the EV3. I started EVs with the first Zoé 41kwh 6 years ago, I still have it and it runs every days without any problem. The battery capacity is still at 92% according to the BMS (thru the canZe app, a must have for Renault EVs) but dit not see any different, I still have the same range as new.

I have had a Renault Scenic Iconic for 3.5 months - work Sal Sac Lease. Excellent car with the Android Automotive Native Google Maps which is a must have when looking at cars. It's my second EV - had the Volvo XC40 Twin before this - both good, but the Scenic is still better than this new Kia in my view, but the next three years should see some leaps by the time I have to renew.

Thats as chunky as and I absolutely love it. This comes in top spec cheaper than a MINI SE level 3 sports pack. I mean I know Nob Bob will come in the comment claiming EV’s are useless for everyone because he needs to drive 500 miles with not stopping, bladder like a champ and why stretch legs or stop to eat he’s a total machine…..😂 People on depreciation is every car these days but at least second had EV prices have climbed due to demand, just have to watch the Car market and have a expert on them explaining what happening the last months.
Kids in the back, dogs, probably a bike rack and it will be a brilliant active family Car. You can just see battery tech is marching on and if needed they will break 400-500 mile real world then everyone will complain why do we need so much Range cut the battery 😂 You can’t win but you can go for around 2p a mile….👍
Got to feel for the guys organising the media drives and they get that weather.

Great review Pete. I'm still enjoying my KIA Nero PHEV which is now 5 year old (had it from new), not yet 10,000 miles. Didn't fancy an all EV due to charging infrastructure and limited range but have been impressed with the 30 mile range on EV in my Nero (short journeys, charge at home and sailed pass garages during the petrol price hikes a few year back) , then no anxiety with long distance travel with the petrol. Recently thought of the Nero EV but with the EV3 coming along, well it will certainly be my next car. 👍

Great review! Went to the launch event at our local Kia dealer and loved the space and interior and exterior styling - and when the time comes it would be a great replacement for my wife's E-Niro. We've been an EV only family since 2019 when our "long distance" car was a 28kw Hyundai Ionic , with an original Mercedes B class EV for local runs - so any modern EV should be more than enough for anyone that realises range anxiety is just anxiety. I'd save the weight a chunk of the cost and stick with the smaller battery version.

Mostly I charge at home but frequently do a 260 mile trip to family living in Hastings and charging on M40 on the trip down and back has in recent years got a lot better. When the Kia EV3 becomes available as a nearly new option then I will be looking to do a deal with Kia dealer.

Hi Pete I got to see the car in the metal a couple of weeks ago and only seeing videos and still shots was very impressed with it. And I’m waiting for my dealer to get the demo car in so I can drive it. As for living with an Ev as your only car I have done for the last 4 years. And other than owning a Lamborghini or a Ferrari I have no desire to go back to petrol. I find the convenience of charging at home over night suits me and there are now so many charging hubs up and down the country that your never that far away from one. But with that range on a day to day basis for most including myself wouldn’t need one unless your doing that long trip say a holiday or you are Johnny rep.

An inspired coastal location for the walk around Pete. Some trick colour grading going on no doubt? It actually made me like the green colour more than I had previously thought and the juxtaposition of the wild natural landscape and the futuristic aesthetic of the EV3 notched up the whole ‘opposites united’ design theme. The car seems a great all rounder and even if the real world winter range is around 300 miles that’s still more than previous V8 Jeeps I had, before seeing the light, would do. I never had ‘range anxiety’ with those! My daughter is thinking of leasing an EV and I’ll definitely suggest this one, assuming there are good deals to be done?

Impressed by the packaging when I saw it at my local dealership, though still think it's a shame that it doesn't have the 800V/250kW charging of its big brothers. A quirk of the pricing is that the mid-spec GTL lists at £40,120 with optional paint. With the imminent inclusion of EVs in the £40k "luxury" VED threshold, surely Kia need to make that paint cheaper!

You mentioned an "apocalyptic, end-of-the-world design," but this shade of green can help tone that down a bit and make the car seem a tad friendlier-looking. Had a chance to drive an EV3 GT-line last Saturday here in Zurich (but without torrential rain)... I am looking at a 2nd car on top of our EV6 GT so surprises were the gear stick function / placement (that you also mentioned and I'm actually OK with that as gives a bit more space to the centre console). But why they changed the lane assist colours to being on as green on EV6 to orange as on in EV3 I can't figure. Oh well. But I was surprised that Kia had ignored the feedback on the EV9 and stuck to its guns with the the climate control mini screen between the main screens - it really is not fully readable from any angle without moving your head... But apart from these few peeves I came away from my test drive as being really impressed with the handling, it just felt all grown up - happy to see that this was also one of the key takeaways also from your review too...

Driving 600 miles in a day with a suitable EV is no problem.
The highway code suggests stopping every 2 hours for a break, but even 3 hours is no problem for a 300 mile range EV.
In my experience, the EV charges faster than it takes to stop for a comfort break and a coffee, as per the highway code guidelines.

If you think about the Kia Niro EV then it’s clear this, the 3 was always designed to replace it. In fact Kia have been clever in a way few over car makers have. So the new Kia Niro EV looks modern, but is basically the same car underneath as the previous gen. I think was purposely done to extend the life of the Niro EV and allow time for the 3 to bought to market. That’s why the current gen Niro EV is not a completely new car. Also, by having the Niro EV as a mainstream EV since 2016, they’ve paved the way for the 3. The current Niro EV is a placeholder car and that was always its purpose. It’s very very clever and a great strategy. There was never going to be a gen 3 of the Niro. There doesn’t need to be.

I was at the EV3 Driving Event at the end of last week.
Thoughts on the car? Mega range. Lovely interior space and so much nice tech on board. Looks modern but the slabby shape may not be to everyone’s taste that’s for sure. Some of the plastics on that dash and doorcards felt a little cheap but that’s really the only complaint about the interior.
Volvo & Renault will be looking over their shoulders. I run a fleet of of about 200 so it was nice to get in one of these - I have absolutely EVERYTHING on my fleet including EX30 and e-Scenic and the EV3 fares well. The range is killer though!

I think the best model in the range would have been a 58 KWh GT but I note that the GT trim level is only available with the bigger battery. I’m not convinced that the 81 KWh battery is not overkill for most owners, especially as Kia (and Hyundai) are renown for their efficiency. It seems crazy to me to price the Air at £39,450 but when you add the almost mandatory metallic paint which costs £625 the on the road price comes in at £120 over the £40k higher VED threshold which applies to EVs registered from next April. The interiors of the Kia EV line up appears to be almost the quality that you would expect in an Audi and I like that Kia use lighter and nice textured materials to lift the ambience. Personally I’m not too taken with the slab sided side styling but I will reserve a final opinion until I have seen an EV3 in the flesh - and in the right colour.

I went to see this at a preview as a potential new car once I decide to change from my BMW i3S. I liked it in general. Lots of space inside. I quite like the slightly edgy looks. However I was disappointed it's only FWD I guess fun driving isnt' really top of it's list though I'd still like to try to see what it's like, as a family car though it'd be great. I'm still looking for something that would replace the fun of my i3S etc... but so far nothings quite done if for me. This offers more space etc than the Volvo EX 30 which was another car on my "list"... this is better for families etc, that car is a bit more sporty I think.

However, my leasing is coming to an end in December, and I was looking at the EV3 as a replacement for the e-Niro. Even though the EV3 is an extremely well-planned car, I just don't like this "square" design the new Kias are going for at the moment. This is certainly very high on my list of possible new cars, I just wish that it was RWD.
I suppose that it all comes down to just how much I'm willing to spend, and how desperately I need a tailgate. Because the car that is really tempting for me is the BYD Seal. The Seal is almost exactly €10k more, but I really do like RWD. (edited)

Just checked and that is the gross vehicle weight (absolutely fully loaded). Kerb weight, which one would normally expect, is 1.88 tonnes with the big battery which is a bit more like it. Still disappointing for a purpose built EV, though, that it’s about 150kg heavier than the Niro EV.
