      Warranties are as good as the small text attached to them. The Ionic scandal is a good example, where buying a new car turned brick due to battery (not real) "damage" left you hopeless. I know some examples of "7 years warranty", like my former colleague passionately buying a Renault and trying to claim rust after half a year. Of course without success, basically told him he was driving through salted roads and it's not covered and that he should have bought a better car 😂... Yes, that was allegedly their argument too 😊

    Great German haha bought the EV3 because I’m a KIA driver for more then 20 years, but in fact could also bought have this car great looking and a great spec. One element you left out is that the KIA has a thrunk. And was wondering a bit about the road assist specs in the car. Thanks for the review 🚗

    Great review. The Kia EV3 is a touch more compact, spacious enough with even bigger range (just), and even better equipped with a 7 year warranty...Will be interesting to see what these manufacturers do to keep their top models under the UK £40k tax limit or will they lobby the government to raise that threshold? 20 years ago £40k was "luxury" but now it really should be £50-£60k, due to inflation, if the government has any common sense. Otherwise those top models are dead ducks as model grades go.

    Just had a look at the UK configurator and there's only the 'SE50' £31,500 and 'Edition 85' £38,650 available at the moment. Looks like 'Edition' means 'stripped down' to keep it under the said Luxury Vehicle tax threshold. Spec it up to EV3 GT Line S level and it comes in at £46,180... without 7 yr warranty, vehicle to load etc etc. Test driving the EV3 tomorrow (which will fit in Tesco parking spaces a bit better too). Loved our past Skoda Yeti's, but currently loving our Kia Soul EV much more !

    • @davidcolin6519
      @davidcolin6519 26 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Yeah, no 60kWh version in Spain either.
      And if you spec the 85 here you're looking at a base spec Elroq for the price of the top spec GT Line EV3.
      Although I'd love the RWD Elroq, all of those neat little ideas that they show you in the "simply clever" stuff comes in at €1000 extra and there's a whole raft of "packs" for the Skoda, most of which are standard on the EV3.
      I love the HUD on the GT line trim, but that trim level is a full €7K more than the still well equipped EV3 Air with the big battery.
      Base spec Elroq 85 or EV3 LR and €7K for solar panels? I don't think it's a particularly hard decision to make.

    • @stevee3186
      @stevee3186 25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@davidcolin6519 Spoilt by our Soul First Edition spec (every available extra)... so it would have to be a GT Line S for us. Yes, RWD Elroq sounds inviting, but FWD is way better for regen. Cannot fault the 'brake feel' on our Kia... not a strong point on the Skoda (and most of the VW group cars) presumably down to the RWD. Had an EV3 for a couple of yours to ourselves on Tuesday. Not blown away, maybe too much hype. The Soul is much more eager and agile, the EV3 more refined but still plenty of suspension noise and tyre noise on poor surfaces thanks to our rubbish UK roads. Some dealers are already offering £4k off brand new Elroq's... (both SE50's and Edition 85's) no chance of a discount on an EV3 if Kia are true to form!

    • @CoxJul
      @CoxJul 25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      A new paint colour and interior on the E85 and you're right up to the £40k mark... before you add any other options...

    • @davidcolin6519
      @davidcolin6519 25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@stevee3186 Seeing as I don't live in the UK (thankfully), road noise and suspension thump tend not to be much of a thing. In fact, there is a change of surface just outside our house, and I recognise the change in sound far more from outside than from inside any car.
      I really do pity Britons having to live with such dreadful roads. I mean, they were bad enough when I left the country in the 1990s, but they are so, so SO much worse these days.
      As I said, I really, really like the idea of a HUD (and I think that the KIA's is somehow even better - with the addition of the overmapping function), but €7k is a hell of a lot to pay for that and a few other bells and whistles.
      And even if the Skoda matched the KIA for price, even with the RWD, I don't know whether I'd be too enamoured about having only a 2 year warranty. Even paying extra for an extended warranty would not come close to the KIA's 7 year one.

    For me, the Skoda Elroq has a well-designed interior with smart details! The same applies to the back.
    For me, the Kia EV3 has a more modern exterior. But for me it is the practical details that are decisive with the Skoda Elroq.

    If you are going to pay the “luxury” car tax would you go for top of the line of this to pay that? I’d want my car to truly be luxury to justify paying that £600 per year tax.

    • @michaelgoode9555
      @michaelgoode9555 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      We're not in Australia.
      The "expensive car supplement" is a fee payable to expensive cars over a threshold (set at £40k for 2025 I believe) is an amount payable for the first five years from registration over and above the set rate of road tax (vehicle excise duty) for said vehicle.
      Given that it is perfectly possible to buy a very capable new car for way less than £40k which can fit a family and their luggage and travel the length of the country easily then buying anything over £40k at this time is just vanity in my opinion.

    • @rogerevans425
      @rogerevans425 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@michaelgoode9555 The £40K was set several years ago, when it really was a luxury car tax, and hasn't changed with inflation. It also doesn't make sense to have the same threshold for ICE and BEVs when, an equivilent ICE is at least £3K less. Take the KIA Niro for example - the Level 4 BEV will attract the luxury tax, but the Hybrids won't. Both have the same level of luxury!

    Was convinced that is might be as good as or even better than EV3 but the lack of V2L is the deciding factor for me. With solar at home and 2 EVs I use V2L a lot and is my back up to save contents of fridges and freezers if we get a power cut especially if we get a prolonged dunkelflaute in February as usual and realise that the Tories should have allowed more renewables before we (sensibly in my view) switched off the last coal fired power station. Also want any new EVto be V2G ready. Hence my wife’s Peugeot e208 will probably be changed to a Renault 5 of Hyundai Inster (even though it looks like the love child of Nemo & Luigi from Cars) when the time comes . Really like Skoda but if I was changing my Niro this year it would be for an EV3.

    Could you start a campaign to stop car journos discussing how long it takes to charge an EV from 10% to 80%? It’s a useless stat for comparing one car to another that depends heavily on the capacity of the car’s battery. What we need to know is how long it takes to add a certain number of miles. Please start quoting how many minutes it takes to add 100 miles of range, perhaps noting the different rates at different types of charger. This is independent of the size of the car’s battery and focuses more on the speed of charging. Thank you Tim!

    Considering they will make 10’s, maybe even 100’s of thousands of these, you wonder if there is enough old fishing net in the world for all those interiors. Especially with all the other manufacturers going for sustainability. I wonder how much is actually recycled and how much is greenwashing.

    Great review but most of us buyers compare the larger battery Elroq with its ICE sister, the Karoq (2.0 TSI AWD DSG). The ICE version has a 50% larger boot, twice the range, is quicker, safer in winter with all wheel drive and costs less. Any cost savings in fuel - if any- will be offset by a battery change in 10 years time (or depreciation if selling it, due to the need to do it). So, Skoda, why would I ignore the financial aspect of it?

    Rear drum brakes....If you try to make an emergency stop @ highway speeds you will realize it would be a much better idea to buy a car with disc brakes on all wheels...

    • @StandaBlabol
      @StandaBlabol 20 วันที่ผ่านมา

      This is really not a problem. EV cars barely uses breaks at all and the problem with rear disc is that it will rust very quickky and subsequently destroy brake pads. Tesla 3 have even functionality to brakes slightly rear periodically to prevent rusting.
      Drum breaking prower is enough for rear axle (must be limited in reality to prevent slipping), only problem with drums is that it can overheat quicker, e.g in long downhill in Alps. But EV brakes with recuperation in this scenario.

    • @MrGeovio
      @MrGeovio 20 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@StandaBlabol You cannot beat physics. At a highway speed of 130 km/h the energy of the car is E=0.5*m*u^2 (speed squared!). These cars are heavy, so mass is already large. The amount of energy the 400V inverter can take at a given time Δt is rather limited, so the major load is transferred on the brakes, both front and rear, especially in emergency braking (Δt is small). There is good reason why MEB cars feel to have 'mushy' brakes, while others feel (and are) stronger. For city driving, regen is absolutely fine, but when the time comes that I will NEED my brakes to work hard, I would like them to work hard as they should. I'm afraid the rest is VW marketing...

    • @StandaBlabol
      @StandaBlabol 20 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @MrGeovio
      Nonsense.
      90% of braking power in high speed is done by front brakes.
      Rear brakes MUST be limited otherwise you get oversteering slip.
      Only possible problem is overheating of drums in long downhill or race track.
      Elroq have RWD so it breaks rear using recyperation. I reali the rear discs on elroq will rust away.
      EV3 must have discs because of FWD, whicg is really not convenient fo EV with high torgue
      And yes, it is simlply physics

    • @MrGeovio
      @MrGeovio 20 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@StandaBlabol Yes, nonsense :) That's why MEB platform has such a good reputation, plus VW managed to overcome the laws of physics :) I would highly recommend to drive both an MEB car and another EV and see for yourself. To me the difference was more than apparent...

    Kia EV3 hands down a better car. Only in the base 50 battery skoda has any price advantage. Once you compare 60 or 85 battery options EV3 will just crush Elroq in every matter possible. Tech, base spec, charging reliability, driving range, comfort and over all ownership experience. Kias are bulletproof EV's and the long history which is over double over Skoda shows.

      @@Brian-om2hh Well Volkswagen group is dumping quite many billions back into ICE research and development because electric cars are not selling and if they dont release diesel or petrol cars then they will go bankrupt. Latest Tiguan for example does have a petrol only version too with a cool 195Kw engine. Put that engine in that Škoda and insta buy for me. I currently have a 2019 Škoda Karoq 140Kw Petrol variant.
