Having trained in both traditions...Muay Thai and TKD, I respect both. They both get the job done, however in terms of professional and practical fighting Muay Thai will come out on top 9 out of 10 times. The consistent and repeatative power in the round house kicks thrown from the hips to the body and legs, the intense shin and body conditioning, absorbing blows by blocking...instead of moving out of the way which keeps you in constant range of your opponent, clenching, brutal knees and elbows.....nothing else compares to Muay Thai.

I also saw the Tae Kwon Do fighter try to use the AX kick which in most cases are useless. Lower kicks are much more effective than high kicks they deliver more power and take less energy. As my Korean Master used to say about flashy high kicks "Looking is a good, working is a not"

Whereas, the taekwondo fighter's guard is low his whole body is much more relaxed. It's the difference in their training methods and so the taekwondo dude couldn't really react to the muay thai fighter actually hitting him instead of touching him.

To give TKD its due, their kicks are beautiful. I've heard the air sizzle just an inch from my face as a spin kick just missed and it was blood curdling to think of what that kick would've done to me had it connected. That said, I knew the outcome when I saw the title, even with the advantages the unrealistic rules gave the TKD fighter. Muay Thai fighters are just so much more conditioned, and they will just break you down with their low kicks to the legs, plus they're very comfortable getting close, whereas TKD is more of a long range system. Then there's the way TKD trains and competes; oftening wearing armor around their torso, and fighting on a point system where the match is stopped at each point. That could not get further away from realistic street fighting. In this match the rules favored the TKD fighter (no head punches, point fighting...) yet Muay Thai conditioning and tactics won out anyway. Plus, as someone pointed out in the comments the Muay Thai fighter didn't even use a brutal part of his arsenal, elbows and knees. Much respect to both however, or anyone that gets in a ring.

Besides, the TKD guy here is fighting in a very outdated way, and I’m sure the Muay Thai guy is as well. No one throws back kicks off target as the first attack anymore. TKD also uses elbows and knees, even though they don’t show up in olympic style sparring. All modern martial arts have their own applications. A purist of either of these styles would get fucked up by a BJJ fighter on the ground. A good TKD fighter would be working to use checking kicks and jabs to stay away from knees and elbows.

One of the things I realized early on with Taekwondo is that it is great if your opponent keeps a distance, but most people come in close for battle, so Taekwondo is generally ineffective when your opponent is close range or relies on CQC type attacks. Taekwondo focuses a lot on foot work and hosinsul for close quarters, but they are no match for someone experienced in this type of combat. People arent going to keep to some martial arts, since most havent been trained in such and they are going to get up close and personal to beat your ***. When I was practicing Taekwondo as a yellow belt with minimal experience with aikido I managed to defend and give my then master (5th degree blackbelt) a run for his money, it occurred to me how ineffectual Taekwondo was in actual combat. It takes one simple mistake on the Taekwondo practitioners part to allow an opponent to get close and often they will wreck them, especially if it is a Muay Thai practitioner - a skilled practitioner will destroy their opponent upclose (personal experience and several cracked ribs as proof). The point here is if you are going to learn any martial art, make sure you know how to defend yourself from close combat and not medium-short range.

Each time the TKD fighter is downed, he smiles. It should be mentioned that previous generations in some Asian cultures will smile when uncomfortable, nervous, or embarrassed. What is being interpreted as arrogance in this video, is likely his embarrassment and is not meant to be boasting or disrespectful.

Let this be known: Tae Kwon Do is SUPPLEMENTARY in the world of mma. It teaches you a bunch of strong kicks and makes you practice then in different situations, but the bulk of a fight will still be punches, low kicks, and clinching.

In Muay Thai there are 10 different kicks, while Taekwondo (sparring, as this is the most relevant) only has 9. If you include the knee strikes of Muay Thai, you get something like 15 kicks...
So your analogy is pretty inaccurate.

ThatNorwegianGuy you've taken this far too literally my friend. and for the most part muay thai practitioners use the round house high and body, with some snap kicks and some knees, very rarely do you see the entire muay thai arsenal used, where as in tae kwon do you almost always see all of the moves used, atleast in my experience.

    • @supermanndango6025
      @supermanndango6025 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

+ThatNorwegianGuy this isn't a sparring sir, this is a full contact competition. and you don't throw knees in sparring with muay thai unless your a shitty training partner , typically it's the front kick (teep) and of course roundhouse kick. yes there are much more kicks and high level muay thai practitioners do adopt many traditional tkd kicks. But due to the fact that muay practitioners practice the kicks mentioned above as well as knees ,whereas the tkd practitioners will throw a variety of different kicks does validate my statement. It's not that tkd is inferior, but if they were to set up there other advanced kicks then would have more success. But the problem is that tkd practitioners do not have the durability as a muay thai fighter since there conditioning is more intense and designed to strengthen the body

To be honest, Taekwondo is very limited when facing a tough martial arts style like Muay Thai. The MT guy defeated him with one move, the leg kick on his thigh. The Taekwondo guy wasn't conditioned to face those kind of kicks which rendered his kick attacks useless. He simply had no power left after a couple leg kicks from the MT guy.

I don't know much about Muay Thai but in Kun Khmer, some teachers use green bamboo sticks to beat the shins at the start of each training session; the shins are then rubbed with salt crystals that have been left over night to catch some dew drops. Many guys/students only last a few days and take up something less punishing!
I have also seen a steel post being kicked with the shin (it was a hard kick too, as the post was shaking for a little while!) - that was enough to scare off a very cocky TKD or Karate black belt who was much bigger than the guy kicking the steel post. Now, not many people can achieve such conditioning.

Jason Simpson While he should've been more prepared against other tkd practitioners, it doesn't negate the fact that under taekwondo/karate rules that he loses a fight to a muay thai fighter. May Thai fighters really only use the teep, round, wheel, and the occasional side kick; but tkd fighters use all of that, and more, they use axe kicks, tornado kicks (great way to create a ko if opponent moves to either side), front legged heel kick. These are all examples of kicks that practitioners master at the highest level of kicking, each one is deadly in it's own way and do not be able to beat somebody with very basic kicks in YOUR OWN RULES as a black belt of one sport is really embarrassing.

I like how the taekwondo do artist kept within the dynamic of the fight, but he didn't adapt to thinking of various other maneuvers in countering but a few. It's arrogant to think the opponent isn't as good as you are, and that you think it'll be easy to win without strategy and possible concepts. I think that quick jumping roundhouse in counter to the thai fighters head if connected would have been pretty fierce. He just seems to keep throwing kicks obviously the Muay thai fighter is accustomed to catching from sparring regularly and other competitions. Muay thai has been a favorite martial art of mine for at least two decades if not more, because of its straight up no backing down approach, and its style too. I also enjoy fancy taekwondo, but I'm still looking to see straight up taekwondo artists going through various kick to punch combos that they have learned! Not just trying a kick that obviously isn't working over and over

They really need to stop the whole “no punches to the head” rule in karate and taekwondo, especially when fighting other kickboxing styles like Muay Thai. Idc what martial art it is, if you aren’t allowed to punch to the head/face then it isn’t a real fight. If you’re doing it for self-defense, then it’s even more imperative that you learn how to strike and (most importantly) take strikes to the head. This is one of the reasons why I stopped doing karate and taekwondo to do a full-contact kickboxing martial art like Muay Thai

TKD is known for it's kicks. Punching isn't going to work when professional boxers get their arses handed to them by MT fighters on a regular basis. It's hard to out strike MT without learning from MT. TKD might even have a chance if everyone wasn't learning that modern prissy shit. The problem with it these days is it's an Olympic sport where they play for points where slapping your opponent five times a second for cheap scores is more important then actually hurting anybody. TKD traditionally has strong centre line kicks which is precisely where the traditional MT stance is open. And they didn't use to play by the same dumb rules they have now. It's a shame.

@@hornetc5585 WTF is much worse, any WTF black belt wouldn't stand 1 min with an average MT competitor.

it depends on the rules of the fight between two different martial art. This full contact rule definitely favors to MT coz they are used to fighting for full contact without protection gears. MMA rule set is the one which is the nearest to street fight. All MMA fighters know punching, kicking , take-downs, and groundworks. However, TKD guys are not used to fighting full-contact and without protection gears on.
