I remember laughing hysterically at this when it originally aired. My mother shrieked: "What is WRONG with you???" I was eight. The Muppets were brilliant. :D
For some reason I started singing this song to my kids today and it reminded me of this. My god, the Muppet Show was amazing! There's no way this would ever be allowed on TV today. Thanks so much for posting this and bringing back some great memories for me and letting my kids see it too. :)
Xtrawdktra i’ll have that yeah that’s crazy by Young Jeezy a crazy wildcat and that she is all the wildcat. Are you and dad to swallow wildcat no wise is one wildcat night. Geez, well wildcat otherwise you swallow I won. Imagine that she’s 101 again why oh you wanna see small wildcat
Yeah, I know that. Ha ha ha ha ha just the other while God that your dad why do you follow wild dog no no no why Jesus follow wild dog I didn’t have a library 🎶
Xtrawdktra what is a burden imagine God she is well the bird imagine that she swallow bird she swallow bird 01 she’s Welborn imagine that she’s wrong with the bird know why she swallowed a bird she said she’s
Dial a jungle bagel and cider. I looked down and get this file ending of England xylem and that she’s Fallacaro don’t want Jesus Varela cat wine OK geez well Jada gas does a 90 to her all of us. Don’t know why.
I remember this very vividly. Mainly because when I was a kid it scared the living crap out of me. Now when I look at things like this from the Muppet show I realize that Jim Henson had a dark side that would occasionally come out in his work.
Agent π You mean Judy Collins? Because the "Old Lady" is a shadow puppet made of aluminum and wood and some pulleys. Not sure if it would generate an aura.
It's an old song, they like the old tunes compaired to the newer ones, just like old people prefer jazz in front of modern pop, or adults of 70's and 80's prefer the music from their time rather than today's music.
Well, Henson ending the sketch with an explosion of course. Also, Judy is cracking up at the end. She supposed to do that. And I loved Staler and Waldorf liking that act. Finally, well, we all have to die at some point.
I have NEVER in my life (59 yrs young)...have ever heard this song! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!! I heard a version by Mr. Burl Ives, yesterday & today by Ms. Judy Collins. LOVE Both versions❤ Have to memorize this song to sing to my 9 mo great nephew which I care for!!!
I read the revised version of the story and my mind went back to this Muppet Show sketch. And here I go and find it on TH-cam. Funny how some commenters are saying this scared them. It was too silly to scare me. What scared me was the Opera Singing Orange on Sesame Street. From age 4-10 I had dreams about creepy creatures similar to that orange with angry faces. They would chase me and hit me, and I'd wake up screaming.
I just noticed that the shadow gets bigger with the bigger things she's eating. LOL This is the first time I've ever heard of this song. I don't like it but I love Judy.
The Muppet Show did a great job with this. A shadow muppet was the old lady that got fat while swallowing animals. Once the horse went down,Boom 💥! Funny 🤣.
Gotta love how all those animals just willingly dove into the old lady's mouth. Like "Oh! You got my prey in there? Well, sure! I'll let you eat me!" Let's be honest, that spider is not going to wriggle, jiggle, and tickle inside her for very long... With or without a bird to catch it!
I was bag-ventilating on old woman in a California ER. The doc was doing chest compressions as we waited for a lab result to confirm that this poor woman had taken her last trip to the mailbox. Suddenly the doc starts singing this song! Im as sick as the next medical professional so I joined him. The rest of the ER staff was somewhat taken aback but, as they had real work to do and we didn't ( and he outranked us all ) we kept going. yeah... the things you remember in your life....
Greetings from Beta-HiFi. I hope you are enjoying these classic clips of Judy Collins. For a better picture, click the HQ button at the bottom of the screen, for a "High Quality" display. For the best stereo sound, listen with your earphones.
This is one of the few performances on the show the two old hecklers actually seemed to enjoy. But then, they did seem less critical of the show in the second season, didn't they? Or at any rate, less critical of the show than they'd later become.
They usually enjoyed the guest stars' performances, with insults (if any) limited to wondering what they're doing on *this* show rather than insults directed at the performers' talent.
Hardly ever, but you'd be surprised. It practically never has happened in all the years of motion pictures and television, but you know what they say: Never say never!
@AbelMagwitch73 I just Googled "Freij Miggins" out of curiosity. You know, the only results that came up were other youtubes of this song, where you made the same comment. Either you misspelled the name, or Freij Miggins is fictional.

I discovered it one night while I was putting the boys to bed. They still ask for it at bedtime. 😅
The shadow puppet used here for the old lady is on display at the Center for Puppetry Arts in Atlanta, along with a few of the Muppets.
Oh cool! :03
"She's dead of course"
Hehehehe! I love that Judy Collins is trying not to laugh but she finally does at the end
Yeah I just laughed my head off
For some reason I started singing this song to my kids today and it reminded me of this. My god, the Muppet Show was amazing! There's no way this would ever be allowed on TV today. Thanks so much for posting this and bringing back some great memories for me and letting my kids see it too. :)
The funniest EVER version of a children's classic.
I loved this musical sketch! It just gets funnier and funnier as it went on. 😆 🤣 Judy's voice is lovely.

Yeah, but just remember, he didn't write the song, not that it should be taken too seriously! It's supposed to be a nonsense song!
Ian Michalski cause kids have a pure heart and can see background noise...this woman s aura is not good. !!!....
Agent π You mean Judy Collins? Because the "Old Lady" is a shadow puppet made of aluminum and wood and some pulleys. Not sure if it would generate an aura.
Ian Michalski no the one with the guitar
Agent π I thought so. Just clarifying.
Dude, Stadtler and Waldorf liked this one! Amazing!
It's an old song, they like the old tunes compaired to the newer ones, just like old people prefer jazz in front of modern pop, or adults of 70's and 80's prefer the music from their time rather than today's music.
At 44, I still can't help but smile while watching this.
Judy was at the height of her battle with booze at this time. She still looks and sounds amazing.
Beautiful song as sung by a beautiful voice.
This was my childhood favorite and it's still hilarious 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
This song is never going to be the same thanks to this.
"How very dumb to swallow your gum!" That's funny.
Well, Henson ending the sketch with an explosion of course. Also, Judy is cracking up at the end. She supposed to do that. And I loved Staler and Waldorf liking that act. Finally, well, we all have to die at some point.
Statler and Waldorf rarely if ever had anything bad to say about the guest stars, just the Muppet regulars.
Very true.
I always loved this part as a kid for some reason. I still do. XD
I remember this episode as a kid. love it
I have NEVER in my life (59 yrs young)...have ever heard this song! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!! I heard a version by Mr. Burl Ives, yesterday & today by Ms. Judy Collins.
LOVE Both versions❤ Have to memorize this song to sing to my 9 mo great nephew which I care for!!!
There is a version by Peter, Paul and Mary here on TH-cam that is cute also
Burl Ives!! That may be the one I'm looking for
I used to love this song when I was little and I still do I hope to sing it to my kids if I have any but I must admit that it is a little strange.
I have had nightmares about an orange man since 2016.
A cousin of mine came up w/ this: I know an old lady who swallowed a gator. All of a sudden, it jumped out & ate 'er.
Good old Muppet memories!
This was always such a weird song to me as a kid....and it still is!
thank you, Judy Collins and the entirety of the Muppet's crew.. these were the pets of momu and he was loving toward them
I have a million memories of this song, thank you thank you thank you!
WOW WOW WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
From a mad keen 74yo Aussie fan.
Kids love this!
I haven't heard this for so long many years
2:45 Boom💥
Brilliant stuff
I'm on my mom's ipad but i just wanted to say WHY HAVE I BEEN LISTENING TO THIS FOR 24/7 AND 10 HOURS AND 6 HOURS STRAIGHT?!😂
I know an old lady who swallowed a toad, after that I saw her explode.
now that comment should have more likes than this
Dan Seelinger äiw
I just gave it another.
Dan Seelinger 9
Dan Seelinger 😁😁😁😁good one
I remember watching this as a kid but idk why
A treasure!
Childhood flashback of note! Brought here by the old lady who was attacked by a snake and then a hawk.
Hi I loved the song
I just noticed that the shadow gets bigger with the bigger things she's eating. LOL This is the first time I've ever heard of this song. I don't like it but I love Judy.
I didn't know till watching this Judy Collins did a version of that cumulative song. 😉
I can’t stop laughing at this video!!!!! It’s SO hilarious and funny!!!!!!!😂🤣😹😹
the sillouette creeps me out when i was a child
I just showed this to my mom and dad and my dad said I needed Jesus😂😂😂😂😂
The Muppet Show did a great job with this. A shadow muppet was the old lady that got fat while swallowing animals. Once the horse went down,Boom 💥!
Funny 🤣.
0:47 bob the tomato: how absurd she swallowed a bird
2:46 Deema : she died of course
I watched this in first grade! :D
Interesting how they divided up the lyrics here. You have the old lady saying that perhaps she would die, and Statler commenting from the balcony.
sha11235 Maybe she's Statler's wife, LOL.
I remember this song scared the shit out of me when I kid. Don't know why?
i deadass was in a play for this in either Kindergarten or First grade lmaoooooooo
very cute
Let’s face it, Statler’s quips mid song are part of the reason this is the best version of this song
memories.
I remember this one. 😍😍 never swallow a horse. 😂😂😂
Judy Collins you've made a version of The Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly Illustrated by Glen Rounds
I love that silly song is making me laugh
"Well, I guess I'll die. Come here, puppy!"
"I know an old lady who swallowed a dog..."
What a hog, she swallowed a dog!
I couldn't sleep for a month when I was young.
When I watched this of course
I swallowed a horse of course
I first heard of this song from the 1986 remake of the Fly, specifically the scene with a doomed Seth Brundle lamenting his fate.
That's the creepiest thing i've ever seen on muppet show :P
Glad im not the only one.
Me too! I ALWAYS COVERED MY EYES AT THE PART SHE DIED WHEN I WATCHED IT WHEN I WAS LITTLE!!!
Violet Koopa so did i
"how very dumb, to swallow your gum" hahahaha
This song used to frighten the hell out of me when I was a kid. I may be wrong, but wasn't she supposed to swallow a cow, also?
Something is weird about the old lady happily saying "I guess I'l die! HAHAHAHA!"
Roxanne
Why would she laugh if she’s about to die!!!
Violet Kelly
Come here puppy come here Billy
Gotta love how all those animals just willingly dove into the old lady's mouth. Like "Oh! You got my prey in there? Well, sure! I'll let you eat me!"

I remember an episode of Sesame Street where this is sung but they say cute monster instead of old lady & cry instead of die.
Greetings from Beta-HiFi. I hope you are enjoying these classic clips of Judy Collins.
For a better picture, click the HQ button at the bottom of the screen, for a "High Quality" display. For the best stereo sound, listen with your earphones.
1:12 lightning McQueen: imagine that she swallowed a cat
Waldorf: Ah...that was wonderful! Ooooh...but I swallowed my gum.
Statler: How very dumb! You swallowed your gum!
Doooooooh hohohohohohohoho!!!
"But I swallowed my gum"
"How very dumb to swallow your gum!"
"I SWALLOWED MY GUM! How very DUMB to Swallow your GUM!" HAHAHHAA!!!
The shadow puppet for the old lady looks like a dinosaur. But I really like Judy Collins’s voice in this rendition of the song
Sick
1:40 Molly : what a hog she swallowed a dog
I know an old lady who swallowed a stoopid commenter,
Now all the rest of us feel better and better!
I tried to reenact this once with my Beast Wars collection. it got weird when I reached the dinosaurs
Hilarious 😂😂😂
* We sang this song on a rainy day at day camp. 🙂
oh god how did I get here
i used to wonder how the old lady could swallow that stuff but then again i might be just over thinking things
2:10 blaze : Lugnuts she just open her throat and swallowed A goat
The silhouette, with its huge mouth, getting bigger and bigger, creeped me out as a kid
2:45. It was at this moment when this old lady knew... she messed up.
Moral of the story: Never swallow a horse
Taking medications to counter the side effects of previous ones, then more to counter the new side effects...
Oh, Jim Henson, you so deep...
This song well predates Henson. I heard in early 1970s
Haha. I know. I was just commenting on the twist.
In kindergarten our teacher read us the book and played the song and I hated it also.
Where's the cow?
Hardly ever, but you'd be surprised. It practically never has happened in all the years of motion pictures and television, but you know what they say: Never say never!
I know an old lady who swallowed a horse well she's dead of course! I love this one! Lol 🤣
Me too
Ellery is born.
2:45 Skibidi Bop Mmm Dada
I know an old lady who swallowed a shark! What lark, she swallowed a shark!
I know an old lady who swallowed a truck and guess what happened I was STUCK!

2:02 The Old Lady : Come Here Billy
"Come here puppy" like tf🤣🤣
I know an old lady who swallowed a bee. Oh, goodness me! She swallowed a bee!
I know an old lady who swallowed a horse we’re done of course!
How did the lady just explode
I remember this scaring the shit out of me when I was little.
This song was to warn against excessive eating, right?
and deepthroat.
It's just one bad idea after another in this song. :)
I haven't seen this in years. I had no idea where I had seen it. Logic went out the window once she swallowed the goat. why would the goat chase the dog? He swallowed the fly purely on accident, people do it all the time. Well, not fly's per-say, but really small flying insects in general.
sigma20xx The billy goat would gore the dog with his horns.
