He must have performed everywhere. He even sang at the University of Northern Iowa (Cedar Falls) in 1978 or so, I think. I wish I had the chance to see him. He was a legend.
I'm an Octogenarian, and lived my whole life listening to this man, and Watching him on TV and in Movies. and even in Christmas Cartoons. (Frosty the Snowman to name one) always loved his humor, wit, and intelligence. they don't make em like that anymore. God speed Burls and thanks for a lifetime of Joy. ECF
I don't think they were underrated. Both were hugely popuplar, and still is well remembered. In the 1990s a CD collection of Burl's songs was awarded a platinum disc for good record sales here in Norway.
This man is a true legend! I have been fortunate to have lived in his life span! He has always fascinated me. He is an entertainer, as good as there is!
Happy Happy Joy Joy He is the voice of America...the sweetest most pleasant man, wonderful lyrics, I wish I could go back in time and see him perform again
He was in "Sierra" with Audie Murphy. You heard his voice before you saw him. Miss him! His singing is what makes me happy to see "Rudolph" every year!
Very distinguished voice! And grew up listening to it! It’s one that won’t leave you if you hear it you will know exactly who it is! Very fitting tribute!
Well done Burl Ives, I have listened to you alot in my day, I am 74 I still play my guitar. my Grandchildren have never heard me, the kids are 15 years old now...great entertainment...
My dad was a big fan of Burl Ives. I remember him playing his records when I was a child in the 1950's. I remember too, him singing The Big Rock Candy Mountain on a children's wireless programme. Then "The Big Country" great film and the shoot out in Blanco Canyon. He was such a presence in that film. I loved his style of singing and a such a good actor. So talented and natural effortless style. I remember all these songs. Children loved these. Oh! And The Big Rock Candy Mountain and Therecwas an Old Lady. Omg they're all coming back. Thank you Burl and for this being posted. Wish my dad was here to see it! I've always found Burl Ives underrated. Hope more can be posted on TH-cam. Happy that his children have seen this and given them joy! 👌❤️🤗⚡️🎶🙏🏻
True testimony to why Burl is called The Great American Balladeer!! What a phenomenal performance…In classic Burl fashion he does a sing-a-long, but with a full on Orchestra as back-up!!!
I have been watching, listening to, and enjoying Burl Ives, most of my Life. He was a wonderful Actor, a beautiful Singer, I remember the first time I heard " A Little Bitty Tear Let Me Down" From the first time I heard him singing that song, I fell in love with this song. From the first time I heard it. And I can Never forget His Beautiful Songs. On top of that he was a very wonderful Actor. I Loved.his Movie's. He was a very Talented Man. Rest in Peace Burl.
I'm surprised to hear and see this old timer still kicking . Hes come a long way since his first hit , John Henry way back . My parents had a best of album I loved to play on the record player. I'm 70 now some 60 years later. loved him then and love to hear him now. God bless him !
This is what I listen to when I was a kid. Where did this kind of music go ?? As for me the radio just broadcast sewage today. Just saying.. Thanks a million for the fantastic post.
This kind of music and related styles are played all the time, but the media don't care to broadcast it. Not considered commercial enough I guess. He returned for a show of his own later. This was part of the Op' Sail 1978 show. Great stuff.
I have always admired Burl Ives his music and mellow voice has thrilled people of all ages light hearted and whimsical sound will last forever. Now I know at least one thing to get my grandson of two years for Christmas!!! Thanks for the post.
Wish Burl would have sung "Silver and Gold" 🎅🏼🎄🤶🏻 this song is a trip back in time to 1960s and 1970s Christmas magical times❣️ maybe one day again in Heaven with Mom & Dad and all ❄️☃️❤️💚
Thanks for the MOVIE TITLE REMINDER; YES, YES ACTING TOO. HOW CUTE! Yes, we had a 288 acre farm in Illinois, and we always had to go out to PRIME THE PUMP to water the horses! Great tasting water , by the way; hope that continues! Whenever I hear artists such as Burl Ives, I think about how MOST of the contestants on those CONTESTS wherein they compare apples to oranges to find their winners...and how EACH SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO AT LEAST PLAY ONE INSTRUMENT ADEQUATELY. Yelling in microphones in sexy dresses, has never been considered to be TALENT by most of the experts! RIP MR. IVES. Didn't Mr. Ives also sing a rendition of "Little Girls?" John Prine as well as SoundCloud's CHUCK AARON come to mind, for their great expertise in LYRICS with appropriate accompaniments. Chuck has a great song about we the baby boomer age crowd..." I Don't like Tomorrow, Today' " " A Wretch Like Me" and "You're the Reason I'm Not Married!" The Illinois Harmony Connection (FredGold&LyndaFaye) LyndaFayeSmusic@Yahoo&Bandcamp.
I grew up listening to this wonderful man. Of course he’s always the Rudolph snowman to me but my parents made sure I heard his other works also. Thank you for posting this. I hate to think this man may be forgotten to time.
I remember him that way also. He was the narrator voice and singer for the original Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer Christmas Special. They even made the roly poly snowman narrator look like him, and Norelco shaver Company was the show sponsor. Kids waited all year to see it once and we had black and white TV. My parents also had some of his records. My mother would sing along with him.
Im old enough to remember life before the internet. This gen is missing so much, but has everything at the touch of a button knowing nothing. No one wants to converse or say hello on the street only argue about what they are entitled too. They just walk with their heads down in that phone stance... Im so sad for what my grandkids are facing. This is an utterly exceptional video guys, thank you.
This takes me back in years. I remember hearing Jimmy crack corn and Idon't care when I was about 4/5years old and only remembered the chorus. The other songs I have heard over the years. Particularly loved the seashanties he sang. I am now 80. Thank you for putting this on TH-cam.
Yes thanks for sharing, preserving this incredible gentleman's intelligent entertainment skills! Hope we never forget! Hope can find there are some following this heart!
This is an undiscovered treasure on TH-cam. His acting talent was only surpassed by his music. Ironic that his son got to enjoy Burt in his later years singing about TIME. WOW
Burle Ives was probably the first person l heard singing. He recorded "Riders in the Sky" February 1949. I was born late January 1949. I've often wondered why l've had such an affinity for America. Now l know!! Colin born in Sussex, England
Thank you for posting this wonderful piece. I saw him live in the 1940s when he appeared as a headline entertainer at the great old Chicago Theater. Here he is, still in his prime 30 years later. And now we are fortunate to see this performance another 25 years later. It truly makes one appreciate the magical charisma that some people have to entertain and be beloved by generations.
i used to sing this song about the little duck and loved it i am proud of the memory thank you i am 86b now and it brings my childhood thank you Buri rest in peace\
Burl got his start at WBOW in Terre Haute at the same time as my great uncle, Fielden Farrington. Both would stay nights at my great grandparents, where he enjoyed the same marvelous sugar cookies I did when I was a boy. Amazingly, Burl serenaded my mother and her sisters in their southern Illinois home years before my parents met. What are the chances? Thanks for posting this!
What a nice and clean "voice & guitar sound" on stage : congratulations to/for the sound engineer - Thanks for sharing, dear Mimre-TV. Best wishes from France. JO

I grew up listening to Burl Ives along with many other folk singers. One of my first record albums was "Burl Ives Sings Little White Duck and Other Children’s Favorites" I was probably 6 or 7 when Mom and Dad gave it to me. I still have many of my family's Burl Ives records to this day. He had such a beautiful voice; I sometimes watch Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer just to hear it again! 🥰🥲🥰🥲🤫

I don't think he voiced in Frosty, but he was the snow man in Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer. Merry 🎄
Nice comment. Same here for memories from another octogenarian. Simpler times, more trust , more belief in ‘the commons’.
Me too
It would never be Christmas without Burl Ives.
Two of the most underrated singers were Burl Ives and Roger Whittaker! What an absolute treat this was!!
We completely agree with you 😀🎸
We love them so they live on
I don't think they were underrated. Both were hugely popuplar, and still is well remembered. In the 1990s a CD collection of Burl's songs was awarded a platinum disc for good record sales here in Norway.
What a marvelous entertainer, I'm in my early seventies and have had the fortune of listening to this man for many decades.
There will never be another Burl lives Rest in peace ✝️
I absolutely loved Burl Ives. And today I enjoy all his songs still!
This man is a true legend! I have been fortunate to have lived in his life span! He has always fascinated me. He is an entertainer, as good as there is!
Rudolph would not have been so magical without this amazing creative talent! Huge part of my childhood memories 💕
He was a big part of my childhood. Absolutely beautiful to hear him now. Thank you.
Ditto. Burl’s singing voice was the background music of my childhood. We had several of his children’s albums and almost wore them out.
Marianne❤

Man, there is no mistaking his voice. He was a master of it, and he sang so wonderfully.
He was a master of his own voice? I bloody hope so.

If God had the voice of a mortal man, it would surely be that of Burl Ives. What a treasure he was, and will always be.

My Dad said that he served in WWII with Burl Ives. Pop said that Ives would sing old, dirty folk songs!
He probably knew over 10,000 limericks and songs….
