She does a marvelous job of harmonizing with Kermit’s narrow range in what sounds to me to be “A”. Debbie has an ethereal sound here over her co-singers nasal frog-pinched larynx. Lovely. 🥰
@@jimmyoddsocks8666 lol, his voice is instantly recognizable. His voice is so full of character (throaty, low larynx while raising the larynx during delivery to hit higher pitches) that it sits in a middle register and constrains falsetto and larynx drops due to that being part of the schtick. A real trick to sing as Kermit, I imagine. But, Debbie is such a world class talent, she could partner with someone having a sneezing fit and make them sound fine 🤪

I played in a few "sueudo punk" bands in the 80's that opened for a few name acts but didn't achieve anything past that. Debbie's voice always stood out to me as one of the best. She was alluring as hell and as you can see by this video, carried a nice attractive presence that the camera couldn't get enough of. I miss those days.
Shoutout to the puppeteer sitting down right by Debby Harry’s legs
Is it possible to triple like something?
Aaron Paul Gelbard I mean you can give it a go
Haha😂 I read by accident "....sitting down right by Debby's hairy legs!"
Yeah wonder if he’s having a sneak peek🤣
Horrible Bastard ew
I never realised how much my wife looked like Debbie Harry back in the day...stilll miss you Jackie :(
this comment made me feel sad :(
RIP Jackie
Sorry for your loss.
Rip Sweet Jackie.

When Debbie Harry smiles I just melt. What a beautiful woman and such a pure soprano voice. That frog . . . I don't know. ha ha
The song is nothing without the voice of Kermit/Jim 😆
😮 😂
I'd have to say Debbie Harry looks her absolute best in this very clip. So beautiful.
This lady can really sing. Debbie and Kermit make the world a better place, one song at a time.
Of course she can , Blondies music is still regarded as great due to her singing .
Kermit is absolutely lovable - and Debbie is even more.
God, nothing hits my tear ducts faster than the first few notes of Rainbow Connection.
Same here. Maybe it's sorrow over a life not finished - at least according to humanity. RIP Jim Henson.
She is a national treasure ❤❤❤❤❤
World treasure!
Genius. Creative people, don’t give up. The world needs your genius.
Sie sprechen meine Sprache. DANKE,DANKE. Ich bin der englischen Sprache nicht so mächtig, als das ich einen gescheiten Kommentar hinterlassen könnte. Die universelle Sprache der Musik verbindet uns.👍👍👍👍👍
♥️
Good comment. Thank you X
Well said, johndnicoll.
Best comment ever, Blessed One. The World needs YOUR genius too.
THE FROGS IN THE BACK MADE ME BREAK AND I STARTED CRYING THIS IS TOO BEAUTIFUL AND WHOLESOME
This coming together under the spell of music and love is recurring throughout the original series. You can tell the creators were part of the hippy generation.
Tears were dropped when the frogs in the back entered the song
Same
The frogs in the back gave me a laugh, breaking the tears 🙂
Growing up, I always though Debbie Harry and Michelle Pfeiffer were twin ❤ Debbie's voice is so beautiful.
I love the froggy choir behind Kermit. And Debbie has a surprisingly good voice.
Wow, Debbie Harry is so beautiful here. I knew she sang in a higher key but I wasn't expecting this. I still love the way she looks here, probably the best point of her career.
Respect/walk Sid Vicious kills! Just ask Nancy
Don't forget the dope too. "I hated touring Australia even though In The Flesh was #1 for 2 weeks there... the best thing about the place was the smack."
She was 'The Face' of New wave, breaking the ice for a new and colorful era
@Respect/Walk Yeah, like you know her so well you lived with her day by day.
@Respect/Walk Well then, her Sun took a long time to set. She also took care of her boyfriend who was very sick for many years. She was dedicated to another person when others would have left the scene.
WOW!!!!!! This is truly amazing and I bawled my eyes out like a little baby and I'm 49 years old. I grew up with Jim Henson and The Muppets and this performance is unbelievable!!! Debbie Harry has an amazing voice and I thought both voices meshed well to this classical deep song. This brings backs many memories and just gives me chills. What really drove it home even more were the little background frogs humming. How ingenious. Jim was so awesome. Who'd have thought he could evoke such emotion with Muppets?? R.I.P. JIM HENSON. Your legacy will live on and we will always love you and be grateful for all the happiness you brought to us!
Agreed...my eyes got a little leaky, too
Mee too)
So very well put! ❤️
Same! Just beautiful.
yup - sad when we lost him
In 1979 I used to be so in love with Debbie Harry. Her looks her voice her style. So beautiful ❤️.
She does a marvelous job of harmonizing with Kermit’s narrow range in what sounds to me to be “A”. Debbie has an ethereal sound here over her co-singers nasal frog-pinched larynx. Lovely. 🥰
"Kermit's narrow range" will stay with me!
Um let us not forget, the voice of Kermit, came from a great genius. His creations were never about competing with pop singers.
@@Vejur9000 Who said they were? Not sure what I have typed that made you think these comments in any way takes away from Jim Henson’s creations or legacy.
@@slackerman9758"Um"
You sound like a Reddit frequenter.
Wow! This really shows Debbie's range of singing skills. This song is a very different style from her famous work, and she did an excellent job with this song. I'm very impressed.
You've obviously never heard her cover American standards. Check out her cover of Lerner and Lowe's Follow Me off the Auto American album.
The Carpenters do a version of this song and Deborah, imo, outdoes the brilliant Karen Carpenter.
Yes
She started her singing career in a folk group.
This song is the essence of Jim Henson's philosophy towards life
I like Paul's song. I don't know if Jim Henson was quite that starry-eyed, but he was extremely creative and skilled at his craft, and obviously respected his audience (just because they're kids doesn't mean they don't deserve your best).
Yes, he had an amazing optimism that gave freedom to his creativity. There's a great permanent exhibit of his work and words at the Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria, Queens, NY.
Debbie has proved she's not a one trick pony! This song really shows her talent to sing more than just rock! She sang with a Jazz band once; I bet she sounded gr8!
I remember watching this as a kid i started crying because this song touched me
Byron Benguche' still gets to me at 44

Me too. Willie Nelson did a stripped down and emotional version.
❤
Still does today at 46
Debbie's voice is so smooth.
- Her play-along expressions are so cute!
No one talks how Legendary Kermit is!!!
Exactly that! Whoever voiced his singing was an amazing musician, and the song itself is amazing too. Debbie does add some flair though! :)
Oh, my heart. This is too beautiful and pure.
Exactly. This is how we grew up.Thank you!
@@bluesnags7711 You know it Kid ...
My God she was beautiful
I wish women still look like her even her makeup was perfectly done
Get out there man... :)
Kermits a guy....
Damn that show was incredible. She's so punk rock, but this just highlights her range. Absolutely wonderful.
Still probably the best song about rainbows out there, best rendition of the song in my opinion, beautiful

Somewhere over the Rainbow is better, and Catch the Rainbow too

Debbie Harry’s pitch is perfect.
So is her beauty; Debbie harry
What!? ……..Rubbish. Sentimental flim flam.
@@todaywefly4370 Shut up you bell
I like her sweet side.I wasn’t sure about her as a person and this was cute.
Yep no electro gimmicks back then. You could either sing or you couldn't
I love the other little frogs doing the background singing.
What a beautiful woman… natural and unique.
Loved the song ❤
Well, except for the dyed hair
This song really highlights Debbie's bueatiful voice.
That was adorable. And a big hand for the backup froggies !
One of the most utterly beautiful things humans and puppets ever made.
That voice, that face, OMG and that beautiful hair!! Kermit is a thing of beauty.
I'm green with envy 😂
And not to mention the lightning fast banjo licks..........
Sitting alone in my room at 5 am crying my eyes out!! God how miss my childhood!!! When i really did dream that the world was mostly all rainbows.
this is my secret hideout, always coming back here to ease up my mind..
Today, in America, definitely a song to soothe me. I get it completely.
In episode 5 of Legion that's exactly where this song come in. David makes a safe space in the astral realm and retreats there, and sings this song, while the demonic parasite is in the room next to him. It's a great show, check it out.
How cute is this, and how gorgeous is Debbie Harry. She does a really nice job on the song, as it's not exactly an easy key to sing in on the higher register part.
Gorgeous woman! The expressiveness. And those eyes 😍😍😍😘😘
Something about nostalgia makes me really depressed. It’s like I feel a piece of my soul dying every time I watch something retro.
@Trump’s A FatAss Me too. Existential angst!
Nostalgia literally means homesickness!
It's Greek for pain,
Agreed, feel that too. Arhhh.
That's so true....!
Why the hell has nobody told me that this existed until today? Their voices actually suit eachother really well.
It shows Debbie’s ability to harmonize. I’ve only ever heard her solos.
I used to watch this show, and I don't remember this episode, but, then, I don't know if I just happened to be on a date when this episode showed or I just don't remember stuff from that long ago. Makes me cry, though. Beautiful songs always do.
Debbie really superbly modulated her voice to blend so well with Jim Henson's on "The Rainbow Connection"!
Blondie's voice is so magical.
She's such a sweetheart, and it's always nice to see Kermit. Good times.
I love how in the 80s, the rebel-style semi punk artists like Debbie Harry had fun participating in these lovely and corny shows, like Cindy Lauper in the Super Mario Super Show. You don't see that on TV anymore.
Had no ego. Self confidence saw this as no threat. Just a nice thing to do.
I think Cindy's dad is captain Lou albano who is also plays super Mario not sure about Thier 6 degrees of separation but anyways ...little rare gem performance from Deb and Kermit...reminds me of the snoop Martha tandem of today's..🐸👄🧝...👌
@@mariobrosxsuper Actually, Captain Lou was a close friend of Cindy, so they usually worked together. He did acted as Cindy's dad in the famous "Girls just wanna have fun" video tho.
Was before the days of mtv and the internet. Stars would b lining up to appear on popular shows for exposure, I’m guessing this show could take its pick.
@@thejoebaxi3940 That is a very good point! But also consider that in the same year of this performance Blondie released Rapture, peaking at number 1 on the charts. I don't think at this point she was specially craving for attention hahahaha
How beautiful is Debbie. Just heavenly.
Debbie makes EVERYTHING cool.
I wish that I could convey through words just how much Jim Henson has affected my life in a positive way since before I can remember. He is as important to my generation as any prophet. His talent was boundless and this world is better by his grace.
Muppets. Seen his house from across the Hudson ..it's up on the hill over looking an inlet on the river ...covered with lilypads in season .Kermit went to Hollywood did well and bought himself his own swamp . Kinda brings a tear....
