- Neer dosa is a popular South Indian dish, originating from the coastal regions of Karnataka, particularly in Mangalore and Udupi. The name "neer dosa" translates to "water dosa" in Kannada, reflecting its thin, lacy texture and the watery consistency of the batter.
Ingredients:
Rice: The primary ingredient, typically soaked for a few hours.
Water: Added to the rice to create a thin batter.
Salt: To taste.
Preparation:
Soaking: The rice is soaked in water for about 4-5 hours.
Grinding: The soaked rice is then ground to a smooth paste, adding water gradually to achieve a thin, watery consistency.
Fermentation (optional): Unlike many other dosa varieties, neer dosa batter does not require fermentation, although some recipes allow for a brief resting period.
Cooking: The batter is poured onto a hot, greased griddle (tawa) in a thin, even layer. It is cooked on one side until set and does not require flipping.
Characteristics:
Texture: Soft, thin, and delicate, with a slightly crispy edge.
Taste: Mild and slightly tangy due to the natural flavor of rice.
Appearance: Translucent white with a lace-like pattern.
Serving:
Neer dosa is typically served with a variety of accompaniments such as:
Coconut chutney: A blend of coconut, green chilies, and spices.
Vegetable or meat curries: Such as chicken or mutton curry, adding a rich and savory contrast.
Sweet accompaniments: Such as jaggery syrup or sweetened coconut milk.
Cultural Significance:
Neer dosa is a staple breakfast dish in the coastal regions of Karnataka. Its simplicity and versatility make it a favorite not only in South India but also among Indian cuisine enthusiasts worldwide. The dish is celebrated for its lightness and ease of preparation, making it a suitable option for those seeking a quick and healthy meal.

Most welcome 😊 Sujata
Which rice it is ?
U can use dosa rice or raw rice
Is it mandatory to where rings while making dosa batter, because my hands are very dark.
It's one's choice Satish. 😊😊😂😂
Add half a cup of cow's milk along with dosa rice for whiter and softer dosas
Thanks for the tips Sunita
No chutney mam?would taste better.
Make any chutney of ur choice
The background music is giving lot of disturbance Madam
Noted
I've been trying to make them, but not able to get it right.
What happened
Normally dosa batter is kept for fermentation. You have not mentioned this aspect.
Anyway, this looks a great recipe. Thanx.
Neer dosa is done instent. No fermentation
What is the purpose in adding coconut?
I don't use.
Without coconut no taste
Not at all. You try once and see
Bare Assa have try kelle
Thank you
Music is very loud
Noted. 😊
Mam y did u put oninon vit oil?
It is to smooth the pan with oil, nicely
Better use iron tawa
It should be well seasoned iron tawa. Those who have can use it
U never added idli rava in your demo ?
Added along with raw rice. Just a fistful
It's idly rice not rawa
Madam you are very pretty pl use the smaller bindhi love you
Thank you for the compliment
These are thick. Neerdosa should be paper thin to be perfect. You make like my mil😂😂 , thick. My mom makes much thinner ones
Thinner ones add 2 cups water for 1cup rice. Then it will be like your mother's neerdosa.
Wrong way of making nirdosa and folding method is done on the tava and the dososa are should be very thin , not thick as you did
I do respect your comment but it looks as if you have limited knowledge in this field
Neer dosai is never folded on tawa. This is the correct way, although traditionally one uses a cast iron neer dosai pan.
Not right way to reply on felcys channel.would be good if replies are as graceful and pleasant as felcy
This has NO protein and absolutely USELESS
It's your way of looking at it Srisastry, but its a delicacy of Mangalore which is eaten with curries rich in Protein.
Looks very delicious n tradional.
It is! Thank you
Looks delicious
