I get those tubs for abt $1.50, I put them in the food processor with a can of green beans and cook it up to go with my dogs food. It cooks up like ground beef texture and she loves it! I have done dehydrated chicken breast before, but never thought of livers like this. Thank you :)
Other pet households can used dried food treats. Our blue crown conure parrot loves his little bits and bobs of dried fruits and vegetables I. His food dish. This includes dried sweet potato, berries, apple bits, kale, beet, carrot, etc. these go into his morning food dish so he’s most likely to eat them (when hungry). He’s been a lot healthier since using these to supplement the regular bird food pellets.
Love your videos. Got my first little cute Nesco Snack master Jr and I’ve got some lean ground beef ones in there. I put a couple drops of liquid smoke in them . I realized that’s what was drawing her to the store bought ones that had sugar in them . She’s super picky . Hope she likes them . I’ll try the livers too . She loves liver . I’ve read one should be careful with too much liver . But this is an amazing way to give them and not have them go bad so fast ! Thank you ❤
I buy beef liver , slice and dehydrate it but my dog prefers when I dehydrate chicken giblets . In the past I have dehydrated chicken breast , hearts , liver and chicken necks .
I make these for my cat. He loves them. Started making them 2 years ago. I should say to much can be toxic. I give 2 of the medium bits you did a week for my cat.
I’m new to dehydrating…my friend found a little Presto unit at a thrift store for $12 and gave it to me. The first thing I used it for was to dry some fresh basil. I put it into 2 small jelly jars and added a moisture packet to each. It looks like dried basil leaves, so I think I did it right!? Today I saw your post on dehydrating chicken liver for dog treats. I also use the fresh livers to add to their dog food. They love it like that, so I’m sure they will love it as treats! I just finished loading my trays and turned on the machine. Can hardly wait til the livers finish cookings so I can give some to my dogs! Thanks for sharing!
Love this ❤ I do different types of liver often as treats for my dogs they love it. Just a note though to be careful feeding liver treats because it is super easy to feed too much which may cause 🤮 and/or 💩 issues for some dogs
@@jennifercline6866 I do heart often as well and it makes awesome jerky treats which my dogs adore. Def not as rich as liver so it is less likely to cause any upset.
I’ve been buying frozen pre sliced beef liver and cutting them into smaller pieces then dehydrating them. Sooo much cheaper than the freeze dried liver l used to buy for my doggie. I’ll have to check out the chicken livers next time…l totally forgot those… the chunk size is perfect. 😁
I imagine the texture is diffrent between freeze dried and dehydrated as well. I'm really curious how you dog like each of them? I'm planning on freeze drying my beef liver and heart and I'm hoping the family pets will like them
@@cherylb.9766 The texture is definitely different. Dehydrated from home, in my opinion, is somewhat “fresher” as seems to contain more of the nutrients, and it has a distinctive crunch than the dryness of freeze dried that l purchased from my local specialty pet store (not box chain). If l could afford a freeze dryer, I’d try it for sure, but my girl loves both varieties. 😄
This is great! My neighbor gave me one of her dehydrators and I think it is just like yours! I plan to make some of these for my cats and my neighbor's dogs! Thankyou! BTW: your pup is cute!
Have you ever used your vacuum pump jar sealer to help marinate meat. I thought about trying to use one to marinate beef before I make beef jerky out of it.
Thanks for the recipe. 3 to 4 hours of an electric or gas oven is something to be considered. Of course it’s always best to do all we can for our pets, but you have to wait the use of resources, the time, etc. Perhaps the best way to do this economically is to do very large batch instead of just a single baking tray.
I just cut up whole lamb liver into small pieces and freeze for a few hours uncovered on cookie sheet, then ziplock bag them all together and feed frozen
i just made this but with beef liver. how funny to see you just post a vid. i also dehydrated gizzards. $2ish for a pack of gizzards and $4 for livers. same products would easily be $20+ and full of trash fillers.
Thanks, have liver and heart (beef) thawing now to make treats. So much easier to cut partial frozen. Liver I start on parchment paper. Heart(his Favorite) goes in and I keep all the scraps to cook for broth(for over his kibble). Agree, SO much healthier & cheaper homemade. I
Yes, I have beef liver and heart thawing now to go in dehydrator. SO much easier to peel when part frozen. Mine used to like gizzards but senior dog is SO picky 😅
No, yet. We can't run the freeze dryer in the summers because of the incredible heat - but we'll bet getting back to it in about a month and trying tons of new things!
@@ThePurposefulPantry Thank you very much for the reply. I also watched your "dehydrating greens" video. Is it possible to dry the greens under a fan (no heat)? Or is it not advised for some reason? You mentioned that your cost in electricity is .75, but in my neck of the woods it's outrageous! I would really appreciate your input on this.
@@ThePurposefulPantry Thank you so much! You might have wondered about the fan (and electric costs), but we kept the fan and AC on all summer anyways, so I was just trying to avoid having another appliance on. I appreciate your reply.
Hey hun can i store my dehydrated foods in a plastic container its like a mason jar but the lid screws on i bought alot of them but i didint check if it had a ruber and im wondering when i fill it whit water and flip it upside down it does not leak ive orderd a dehydrator and getting all the stuff i need ☺️
I ground some dehydrated peppers. But I noticed some powder sticking to the sides of the nutribullet cup. Is it a bad idea to put the pepper powder back into the dehydrator?

I made them directly on the gridded trays. So easy to break them into little pieces for training treats.

Darcy, I was able to get chicken hearts for the dog.... would this be the same process or maybe a little longer?
It's dry when it's dry - and yes, heart will work.
Grind up any meats- make a paste and spread thin then dehydrate.
Do you ever cure it so it will store longer? And do you cure without nitrates?
No - because curing salts would be bad for the dogs.

As long as you have good airflow to actually dry, they aren't much different than doing herbs. But I would cut them down and not pile them up.
