Do you have a buffer or "guard rails" to protect yourself and come back to ground zero? In this video, I wanted to share the wisdom of the monastery of how we reset ourself and hopefully it can inspire you to integrate this wisdom into your daily practice. I hope this is helpful. #monks #buddhism #mentalhealth

Buddha's teaching, ( we call it Buddha's Dharma) is not a religion...unfortunately over the years due to various reasons it became a religion ( an ' ism ') run by institutions of various sects, now it has become a religious brand.
Buddha wanted his words to be heard through Sanghas ( sanghas are a group of individuals who follow the the disciplinary code set by Buddha and dedicated to follow Buddha's words in order to find the true liberation of life existence. They were also given the task of spreading Buddha's teaching to the laymen to understand the truth of existence and how one should live during this existence in order to find the path through purification of the mind ( we call it the eightfold path) . This teaching is a way of life, put to practice to become habit . The knowledge of his teaching is useless if you can't practice.

Thank you Brother Nick. I meditate twice a day. Once before sleeping and when I wake up. Especially when I wake up because of a high amount of anxiety at that time. It helps me reset as well as set the tone for the day ahead. I follow with a few short prayers of gratitude towards loved ones and/others who may benefit from positive intent. Thanks, again, for your guidance.

I want you to know I've sent people to your channel, telling them so much of what you have taught has helped me immensely. By maintaining neutrality there is no resetting back to a neutral state. When we go up we come down and when we go down we come back up, this is because of an imbalance. By maintaining neutrality we cannot be pulled in either direction, up or down. This implies indifference but not indifference in a moral way, indifference towards our circumstances, not clinging to anything good or bad. Good things will always bring a contradictory force, same with the bad things. To see things as there are is to maintain indifference, even in ones appreciation and gratitude towards present circumstances.
Meditating every day and knowing the security and stability that indifference brings is how one can maintain focus and attention on what is true.
    🙏

Venerable Nick, thank you so much for this powerful reminder on the importance of resetting our lives. In the Christian tradition there is a teaching that says, "Be still and know that I am God." Even our great master teacher Jesus of Nazareth felt the need to get away from the pressures of his ministry and go into the mountains to pray and fast for 40 days. This idea of resetting is an ancient one but rarely taught and practiced. Again thanks for your valuable teaching.

Daily I reset after work by changing into comfy, baggy clothes like joggers, a sweatshirt and slippers. Then again later putting on PJs after a shower.
I resonate with the idea of cleaning as a reset: housework, dishes, laundry, changing the bedclothes all feel like a reset.
Never saw these rituals as part of a spiritual practice before but I like that perspective. Thanks for your videos, each holds profound but simple truth

Over a long life I have developed a strategy for testing people-generated “wisdom” and that is to look for examples where nature confirms (or doesn’t confirm) the wisdom. While it isn’t exactly the same as what is discussed here, I see the reset and peace it generates in farm animals or pets whose carers adhere to a strict schedule of feeding, cleaning, maintenance and rest. We, like all animals, respond well to predictability. So, the wisdom presented in this video passes the test. Thank you Brother.

Appreciate it Nick!!! Thank you! Everyday, at the end of the day, I reset by ritual of cleaning and closing shop so-to-speak for the day: clean the sink, brush my teeth, etc etc.... and prepare my bed and get ready. Another way I reset when I need it is: I listen to Dharma - Joseph Goldstein and others... I also exercise - regular senior exercises and sometimes some QiGong. These things ground me and center me. I love dharma and I appreciate the way Joseph Goldstein teaches. I have learnt from others as well but he is my present dharma teacher only in the sense that I listen to his teachings on his retreats as presented on the Apple Podcast and uTube. Thank you for sharing perspective Nick. It is always helpful to listen to you!

Thank you for this video. Resting, stopping the world, being fully present, is so important. Often times people "rest" while browsing the internet, or watching tv, a movie. And this is truly no rest at all. It is merely an escape. And if one watches the news it only draws our consciousness out into the world further, inciting emotional responses, taking us further from feeling restful and centered. It's like a barrage of worldly events constantly flooding our conscoiusness. Now more than ever it is so important to draw down on all that external activity in order to find our true selves. I tend to think that global warming is a consequence of humanity's hyper activity, and until we as a species learn to slow down, relax, and get in tune with Nature and our own natural biorhythms, and center ourselves, nothing will truly change....

I have already listened to this teaching, but listening now seems like the 1st time?
I have no doubt that the reason why is because of a recent event (trivial to be honest) but also because of something that I continue to have good days and not so good days regarding. It happened a good while ago but it's still in my system and varies in intensity.
It's never been a detriment to my outward life and caused me to mistreat anyone but it's there. I want it gone.
My point: I think that implementation of a reset practice, coupled with my new affirmation practice, I will finally be able to put "that" to rest and where it belongs- behind me.
So then I can truly appreciate this peaceful, productive, and fulfilling life that I am blessed with. 🙏

Just watching your videos are very centering, so thank you. I’ve carved out a few daily rituals for myself. I’m currently in a political lockdown, so I have a lot of free time. I meditate!I’m up to 10 solid minutes, sometimes more, and every evening, ( almost) I like to soak my feet in a tub of water and light a candle. It’s my time, it’s silent , it’s wonderful. Thanks again for all you do. Not just for us watching you, but for all you do for everyone else. Blessings x

these are just some of the basic things that we know we have to do yet always fail to do so...happy and grateful to watch and listen to this vlog and be reminded that we are basically human and not machines. we indeed need some time off to rest, reset and cleanse whatever clogs our mind.

Hey Nick, I'm always happy when you have wisdom to share. Recently I've been more open minded to the idea of love and kindness meditation. I use to think that it didn't have any wisdom, but now I see that it does. In psychology we have the idea of projection, were we see our own negative traits in others, but it works the other way as well. We can see our own positive traits in others, and that's why this form of meditation is important.

      There are four sublime states...called
Metta (loving kindness) - Mudita ( Sympathetic Joy) - Karuna ( Compassion) and Upekkha ( Equanimity) ...these four are attitudes towards other beings. Each sublime state cultivates compassion, concentration and absorption and this process also helps to remove jealousy , hatred etc. and Equanimity differs in the sense of being a detached state.
The object is to know exactly what suffering being and to see the suffering of a being.
The word Ahimsa - Nonviolence is based on this

I want to thank you for sharing your wisdom; the monk life you have walked to is astounding; the habits are so simple, but I feel, so pure....(ok, I'm not shaving my head or eyebrows, lol,), but I feel I understand, and have habits that are also cleansing, for me. I live in the desert; time alone, time spending with this cactus land; for me, it's the meditation, the fasination, the purification....all of your reset ideas spoke to me, and I thank you once again

Thank you Nick. Your messages and the way you present them are so soothing. I believe Rest is an activity in and of itself but it seems that is not the way many people view it. To do nothing is still doing something.
I do believe people should learn to say NO now and then. Not to take on more then one can handle.
I love to read when I go off to bed. A good relaxing story. When my eyes become tired I closed the book and fall asleep. As my mother used to tell me “ tomorrow is another day”.
This is one way I de compress from the days obligations.

Namaste, Nick: it is a very important subject to bring up. Most of us will struggle, and that is why I love that you remind us.
Just as (Yoga With) Adrienne alwalys say: we need to CARVE OUT time to do so and so...to rest, to be still, to meditate, to go inward or whatever we may name it:
As long as we do that, we're more able to be the humans we long to be, for others and for ourselves ❤
