If you have any extra rounds and maybe some gel blocks, could you do a ballistic comparison of 9x39, 7.62, and 5.45?? Would love to see how the Soviet based rounds compare to each other ballistically hence they were all made for different jobs. Maybe even 7.62x25 or 7.62x38 since I’m sure you have a Nagant revolver just laying round for fun in your office of AK magic
No the real test would be 9x39 vs 7.62x25(300 blackout). It would be interesting to see the difference between a hornady190 gr sub X or lehigh197 gr controlled expansion vs. whatever is available in 9x39 for civilians (which is fuck all). The whole point of this cartridge is the SP5/SP6 ammo which is supposed to have some AP capability. There are like no projectiles in the civilian market that gives you a heavy 260+ grain jacketed hollow point, I think the 300 blackout would pretty much fuck this thing up in actual capability on soft targets with subsonic ammunition
Videos will always make a suppressed firearm very very quiet... It's probably slightly quieter than a 22LR in real life... Which is still really quiet of course.

@@crazysilly2914 this is more similar to a VAL than the VSS due to the stock and large mag. Before you argue about full auto, both the VSS and VAL have full auto functionality.
That’s rather common with most actually silenced weapons. Many silenced pistols have a feature that keeps the action from resetting to keep maximum silence.

I found this channel, got interested in AKs, found myself thinking "shit if I build one I won't have any ammo for it in this 2020 shortage" next listing I saw on the ammo site? 9x39. One barrel blank later and I'm no closer to where I wanted to go than a year ago, but damn am I looking forward to getting there.

@asdrubale bisanzio I mean, it can, but you can get suppressors that are rated for full-auto fire. And even then, as long as you're not just dumping mag after mag, it won't hurt the suppressor anymore than it would hurt the barrel
I wonder what the ballistics of it are in comparison to a .300blk rifle with a supressor. Cause we know that sub-sonic .300 blk has about the same energy as a really energetic .45. I wonder how that translates to a round that is almost identical in it's necked up larger caliber.

Slagga Mfg. and Chitin Defense are developing amd building american-native VSS and ASVALs. Both already have a functional version, Chitin's is built from a previously demilled blank-firing VSS. ALL around, things are looking up
I haven't looked too heavily into this, so don't let me completely ruin anyone's hopes and dreams, but I swear I heard some things about Slagga that made it sound like that project wasn't ever going to take off. Like they were talking up something they couldn't achieve. I hope this isn't the case, because I love these rifles. I would especially like to see an SR-3M pistol variant!

@@MyHJIaNT That's not an AK-9, that's the OTs 12 Tiss (essentially a 9×39mm Krinkov). The AK-9 is made by a different factory and I think it's based on the AK-100 series of rifles.
@@AVPozdeev It's 7.62x39 with marginally worse case capacity, but wider selection of tips available for reloading/exotic loads. 9x39 'merican equivalent is a lesser known wildcat cartridge (.338 spectre, fairly damn close).

It looks a really cool round. It's actually a 9.3mm bullet and the 9.3s are very popular in Europe for hunting, particularly with wild boar as a quarry. Chamberings 9.3x62, 9.3x72 and 74r, 9.3x64 (really close to 375 H&H ballistics this one and perhaps used by the Russians in some heavy rifle roles), 9.3x66 Sako and 9.3x57 (Very popular in Scandinavia and Canada in Husquavarna rifles) so there are quite a few bullets to choose from commercially that should work. Norma Oryx 232gr, Speer 270gr (works well in the 9.3x57 so probably good performance at lower velocities) are 2 that spring to mind.
Think the first game I used the VSS in was PUBG actually. It was unironically one of my favorites to use despite the difficulty of mastering the slow ass bullet speed.
when you have made a gun's shot less loud than the mechanical function, you made a good job at making it silent! (or a seriously loud mechanical function... but the metal target tells me otherwise.)
We need a video on how you guys make up barrels for custom builds like this. For some of us with the tooling but not the know-how, paying someone $250+ for a custom barrel isn't very cash money when we can do it ourselves for the cost of materials

9x39 'merican equivalent is a lesser known wildcat cartridge (.338 spectre, fairly damn close).

It looks a really cool round. It's actually a 9.3mm bullet and the 9.3s are very popular in Europe for hunting, particularly with wild boar as a quarry. Chamberings 9.3x62, 9.3x72 and 74r, 9.3x64 (really close to 375 H&H ballistics this one and perhaps used by the Russians in some heavy rifle roles), 9.3x66 Sako and 9.3x57 (Very popular in Scandinavia and Canada in Husquavarna rifles) so there are quite a few bullets to choose from commercially that should work. Norma Oryx 232gr, Speer 270gr (works well in the 9.3x57 so probably good performance at lower velocities) are 2 that spring to mind.

when you have made a gun's shot less loud than the mechanical function, you made a good job at making it silent! (or a seriously loud mechanical function... but the metal target tells me otherwise.)
We need a video on how you guys make up barrels for custom builds like this. For some of us with the tooling but not the know-how, paying someone $250+ for a custom barrel isn't very cash money when we can do it ourselves for the cost of materials
I wonder if it uses the same barrel bore as 9mm Luger, then maybe you could just cut the new chamber into a 9mm Ak barrel?

@@rollastudent could probably use a 9mm blank for sure. Chamber pressure's pretty low on 9x39. Will just need faster rifling for the longer bullet.
