Among the changes you listed, the SR-3M also added a permanently attached folding grip to the front of the foregrip. There is also an SR-3MP which is further modernized.
The SR-3 Vikhr is a very neat gun to look at which is helped by the fact it was to be designed to be compact like other PDWs like the Honey Badger and what makes it more unique is that it's not an AK-style gun except for its modernized variant the SR-3M.
I think its still a bit of an AK style gun either way, just because the AKMS, the paratrooper variant, uses a folding stock that works more or less the same way except for folding under the gun (and being even more flimsy), and the assembly style with the top dust cover popping off with a button in the back is literally an AK feature, even if its slightly different in how far it goes forward. If anything the Vintorez and AS VAL were heavily adapted AKs, and the SR-3 was a slightly less heavily adapted VAL/Vintorez. The lineage is definitely there.
The SR-3 Vikhr can certainly be used as a PDW, pretty much like the Russian police force equipped the 9A-91 carbines used them as PDWs - also loaded with 9x39mm. Due to the SR-3's increased popularity in Spetsnaz units, the SR-3MP was made just for them, including the KSSO - Russia' SOCOM

In my opinion, this weapon perfectly embodies the spirit of a PDW. Compact, lightweight, intended for concealability rapid deployment, and chambered in an effective caliber that is less powerful than the intermediate cartridge but more powerful than a handgun cartridge. The SR3 lives in the same category as the P90, the MP7 (eww), the Honey Badger, and the Rattler.

I fired a Steyr AUG and it also climbed to the right, though I fired from left shoulder. The climb to the right is due to right-hand rifling twist, not the shoulder
For those shit-talking the gun, realize we have here a Honey Badger PDW developed in the early /90s/ by those backward Ruskies. What were we messing around with even years later, polymer receiver derivatives of decades-old designs (XM8, Glock/wunder-nines) and using slings in lieu of stocks on tiny submachineguns (TMP, Tec9, etc)? The Ruskies really did outpace us on innovation, by imagining new roles for arms, rather than attempting to replace what they already had with a 'better' product that does the same thing. By the time we get to 2004 or so, the Russians had a decade or two of subsonic micro PDW carbine experience and a half dozen platforms doing what we're just now getting around to in the last few years. Their military was seemingly more talented at imagining new uses (tactics) for small arms, whereas ours was almost entirely focused on at most replacing our existing weapons with 'better' versions that were to be used the same as before. As inconsistent as Iron Curtain weapons are, you have to give them credit for being very forward thinking for the PDW concept. The PM-63, VZ61, and now this gun, years before the Honey Badger. Very interesting where their weapon research was focused on
The purpose of SR-3M is to be easily transported, basically a suitcase/bag transportable as val.
It’s always nice to see you wearing gloves.
The random black dots on the background wall made me wipe my screen twice before I realized they weren't dirt on my screen 😂
Very cool weapon.
When daddy Val loves a vz scorpion momma..
VSS obrez basically
Vintobrez
@@AtlasJotun i would love to have that as a commercial name for rifle
It has heavy WH40k bolter gun vibes.
What a cool gun and I’ve never even heard of it before.
Looks useful, in its niche.
Yeah but... How much we talkin?
@@fridrekr75109x39 weapons especially silenced don’t purposed for real war action, things like VAL used only by small recon squads, also you need to clean it after a few mags, but if you keep it clean it still as relaible as AK
The fact that it balances on the mag is hilarious to me for some reason
This would be a sweet truck/bedside table gun. It would be a bugger to find ammo, though.
this thing is such a "gun" gun to look at. Very aesthetic.
Good video!
That thing strikes me as being comfortable
It’s an interesting stock design
It's dope and I need one.
BSG: adds new gun Ian: begins looking for said gun to make a video on 😁😁
Surprised IGN haven't gotten Ian to react to any of the new guns for a few wipes now on that note. PvE not wiping would make it especially easy for them to catch up and show off anything BSG implements.
@@Gigadweeb Ian said in one of the Q&A's he doesn't want to do them because: 1) He doesn't know much about video games and it makes watching/making these kind of reaction style videos not very interesting for him. 2) Probably a lesser point, but he didn't realize at first IGN is not GameSpot, who have "their own" firearms expert Jonathan Ferguson, and that he's essentially been taken on by IGN as direct competition to GameSpot and Jonathan.
It always amazes me how Russian machining is so rough and rudimentary that any of their stuff works.
1990-s, rough machining for rough times
BFBC2 engineers remember
I sure do...
I also remember the AN-94 meta.
Let the bodies hit the floo-

That was the cheaper version tho. 9A-91
@@AchingScaphoid Or on Cold War, it'd be "LET'S DO THI-" *_*Airstrike hits, building crumbles_** [you were killed by 1337n00b1337]
Wrong gun. That's the 9A-91; quite literally designed as a cheaper alternative to the SR-3.
By the way, TsNIITochMash’s main activity is developing guidance systems for ATGMs and artillery. Developing small arms is more like a hobby for them
another interesting video once again
I'm going to be that guy...you misspoke at the end there: the SR-1 is a handgun that looks like someone crammed the guts of a beretta 92 into an oversized makarov frame.
Too bad they didn't have a current model with the vertical grip that folds into the handguard.
Your videos look good in grayscale.
I like the word 'precision' being used as we have a close-up of the appalling finish.
