Maybe an idea would to make dividing walls between the 3 burning that can be slid in and out..That way when you only have a small part, you are only using a third of the space to heat up..Just need to come up with a way to shut off 2 of the burners when you only need one..
Such a rare bird to be so down to earth and I thank you for it. Refreshing to see. Thanks also for not being afraid of your shadow as everyone else is. Nothing about "don't do this at home" or I'm not a professional or bs like words being afraid of liability or generally chick talk by grown ass men.
hello can you guys send me a drawling of the wiring diagram on your powder coat oven cause I’ve bought the same thing I like your build and coping it at my house but need to know how to wire it I don’t know where them black wires run to or where the white wires are going behind that contractor looks like they are grounded but not sure but I have most the wiring figured out just the black wires and white ones
Best DIY cure oven video I've seen yet. I need something bigger than what I already have for powder coating and would like it to double for prepreg carbon fiber curing. With just a few tweaks I can accomplish exactly what I need for a fraction of the price of all the turn-key ovens I've found that just aren't big enough. Thank you! Your design is large enough for me to cure 4 or 5 carbon fiber guitars at a time and cost-effective enough to be worth the build time.
You need to add some radiant shields over your elements, just some sheet metal with 3/4 -1' holes, hanging in front of the elements. You may not have had any problems yet but it will if you get some parts to close to the elements. It will actually burn the coating or discolor it . Don't ask me how I know. LOL I have two ovens in my shop 7' X 7' X 7' inside measurements and a 4'6" T x 3' W x 32" D inside. I heat mine with LP, I built my own burners and controls myself. The big oven, I can bring from 32* up to 400* in about 9-10 minutes and the little oven about 15 minutes (different type of burner. I don't need to dump 500,000 btu of heat in it.)
Nice! Any more info/tips on your setup? My garage is off grid and I’ve been wanting to do LP. Because my system wouldn’t be able to run 15kw of elements
I built one very similar a year ago and bailed on it because I thought it too big. Yours is ideal size. Great video, very informative and easy to follow. Perfect YT DIY instructional. Thanks!
Awesome video! Using two house type ovens now due to cost of store bought PC Oven... I'll build one of these now, use parts from the other two, toss them when done and have a permanent oven in their space! Thanks for the video!
I am just finding this. Absolute phenomenal job on this build. Very inspiring. I will try this oven build. I have been gathering stuff over time to build one. Thank you very much for sharing this with us.
This was fantastic to watch. Want to start powder coating, not going to drop several k for oven. Would like to do something like this on my own, but not sure I can pull off the electrical. Thanks for the inspiration and sharing your experience.
I had watched a couple of videos of custom builds that were about the size of a dorm refrigerator. I need bigger than that and thought about using metal studs and galvanized metal. I thought I was the smartest guy around and then clicked on your video and found out that I was the second smartest because you beat me to it. Thanks for the video and the info. Subscribe and thumbs up from me.
Thanks Ed for the kind words. Hopefully this video helps everyone out! It sucks paying a fortune for powder coating for the average joe. This will definitely save people some money!
The coating on galvanized sheet metal starts to brake down and give off toxic zinc fumes at temperatures above 395F, even if the entire oven isn't set to this temperature the areas near the heating elements will certainly be at least that hot.
@cameronpresley5771 ive seen some powder coating ovens using just cold rold metal plate think the thickness of the ones on the site where i was working was between 1-1.5mm didn't measure it but thats around what they used to build it
Is there anyway you guys could send me a drawing of the electrical like how to wire it up cause I’ve bought the same exact components you guys have but don’t know how to wire it up if you guys could draw me out the wiring would be awesome so I can copy what your electrician did
It looks like you could use those same hinges all the way around to connect all the wall pieces so you wouldnt have to unscrew anything. Other than that i love the idea
Cool rig you got there. It's given me something to think about. I can have wheels PC's locally for $100/wheel, and their color selection isn't very large. For $400 I can build my own little oven just for one wheel, and buy ALL the equipment to do my own rims in whatever color I want.
Love the innovation I had a small shop in 89 built and installed security doors Wet sprayed first then fast dry acrylic Then high solids bake Finally got into powder Lots of work but well worth it Had two lines one automated recycled the powder great savings paid for the equipment over time one binks 10 x10 sprayed to waste Adding a Fremont phosphate wash was great for pretreatment sadly lost it all during the 2008 2011 Economic meltdown Think I’m going to build my own this time Thanks for your post
I can relate same arm. drilled through the bone add a button through the bone. Told me it's stronger then before. Was nevus going back to lifting all is good.
Very nice, I did kinda the same but used an old oven open the door and just built a box like you did but mine just sits on the oven door when it’s open put some straps on the side so I made it little more than double the size but that’s all I need, thanks for the video
That is pretty neat. Once I have enough space, I will be building a bigger oven too. I was thinking about using Infrared heaters instead of oven heaters though, since they are dirt cheap and easily available here.
NIC Prismatic is only about 10 miles from me in White City OR. It's great to go there in person and they let you go upstairs where 8500 color chips are hanging. They always let me take a few samples for my projects and they have a color matching team onsite. I place my orders and pick up in person or they can ship to you for a small fee.
A good idea to do if you haven't redone the oven. Is put the fiberglass rap on the window door the same way as the bottom of the doors. Because there is no seal in the middle gap.
yeah, definitely! Because that is how an actually oven also is designed! Good observation! The heat may be cutting off before the lower part of the oven reaches the necessary heat for the Powder Coat on the lower part of a frame like they described having done in this thing!
Very nice build and well thought out and executed!.......as far as the burner elements, it looks like just 3 household oven elements? Can you just purchase like 3 of the same model replacement elements for a household oven and also what wattage specification elements do you recommend for a box similar in size to what you all have built?? I'm looking to mainly powder automotive parts with probably wheels and subframes/chassis parts being the largest items I will need to put in an oven so that being said a household oven was what I was originally starting to look into putting in my garage and just adding an extra 240V box on its own breaker in my panel and wiring the identical pronged plug that my plasma and welder takes that way I don't have to run it on the compressor outlet and the oven will only need plugged in when in use and all other times will be free for my plasma and welder for fabrication and all of that equipment is in the area I'm going to free up under one of my larger fab benches and build the oven to fit snug under that bench that way if I'm doing something heavy such as an engine block or similar weight I can powder it on a wheeled cart and then roll it right into the oven on the cart and when done wheel it right out instead of lifting heavy items up a few feet into the oven. I want to thank you guys for such a great informative video on your build and also thank you in advance for the information on my questions in the beginning of my comment here! I look forward to chatting with you all soon and until then take care and powder on!!
I bought a replacement element on amazon and bent it around a cylinder to make my automated bullet casting machine. Compare the size of a household oven to the volume of your oven. It would be easy to add another element later or to unhook one if you are wrong. A few years back it was $17 for the element I bought. You should do a 50 amp circuit and #6 copper wire depending on the length of run for the 6-50 receptacle. Since an oven runs for long periods of time, you want to have good size wire. Plasma cutters and welders can run on smaller wire for shorter periods, but I finally upgraded when I remodeled my garage.
Great video guys, look forward to making my own you make it look simple and I’m sure it is not that hard to do, I will save thousands of dollars Thanks to you, keep on keeping on Brothers👍

What are the internal dimensions? Also do you think two burners would suffice or do you need three for that amount of cubic inches. I am designing one to coat motorcycle frames in my shop right now
Very informative and detailed video! About time for me to make a bigger oven and I plan on building it next month. By chance, do you mind telling me the external dimensions of yours? Thanks in advance!

just acquire a large microwave oven to use with smaller parts
@regulershowtv and put metal parts in a microwave?😅
You’d only wire the one burner, and place the thermocouple in that section. It’s a good idea to use way less energy for small parts

One question….. you said it runs on 220/240…. So it’s plugged into a 50amp welding plug? (Like a 6-50R?). Is that all you need in terms of circuit to run the oven.
I was wondering why he stepped it down?
In a word.... Genius!
Just wondering what the transformer is needed for. Use a 4 wire plug like for an electric cook stove and you have a neutral to get your 110v
Welders use nema 6-50 which does not have the neutral. Old codes let the 120v devices use the ground but that is dangerous but it works...........so I'm told :) I thought many PIDs ran between something like 100v and 277v for the input, but maybe theirs is 120v. I used one that works on 240v and a single oven element wrapped around a steel cylinder for an automated bullet casting machine that I built.
3’ x 6’ x 3’ tall. Thanks for checking out the video.
