I was thinking the same thing. I've loved every single assassin's creed game, but definitely get that it's not for everyone, but appreciate some acceptance of this set instead of hate on it
A thing to note about Alexios is that trample damage is assigned by the controller not the owner. So his trample is basically worthless if players are cooperating since you can still chump him and the attacking player can assign all damage to the creature.
Oh man now that I know that I'd mention that every time to my opponents with something like alexios or slicer on the board. Ive been playing for 8 or 9 years and did not know that.
@@johnnygoodman8262 unfortunately that's because it's not intuitive to work this way and when mtg was released trample actually didn't work this way. Wizards changed the rules to how trample works in 1998 during Urza's Saga block. Frankly speaking it's a bad change to a keyword that should work exactly as you a player would expect it to.
@@MTGLootzIt's unintuitive yes, but it offers more flexibility. It's the entire reason deathtouch+trample is a powerful combination. I wouldn't agree with it being a bad change unless you dislike a considerable amount of mtg rules interactions that are even less intuitive.
Apple of Eden is one of those fun cards that's more powerful in cEDH than casual because your opponents will have good cards you may want to cast instead of jank cards built around a theme.
Loyal Inventor seems like a solid include in Nadu. You often have 1/2 draws without your 0 equip artifacts so this just tutors one of them to the top and lets you draw it. I think it replaces the 2 cost or 3 cost mages in the list.
A note on shao jun: it can tap down stax pieces, similar to Urza; so its great with trinisphere/orb effects. It also works really well with curiosity effects, which maybe you also stick in a niv for an additional wincon
One maybe important thing they forgot is that isu spyglass actually does not have an advantage over mystic forge as far as artifacts are concerned, as mystic forge lets you play colorless spells or artifacts off the top, not just artifacts like i they seemed to think.
Also, a minor note on Alexios: he's a bit harder to remove than Slicer by virtue of being "Not an Artifact," meaning he can stick around that hair longer than Slicer. Slicer is faster and doublestrike is the "stronger" keyword, but built in a Sligh shell, they're both VERY dangerous.
With the comments about Desmond, I'm surprised you didn't talk about Senu. In Tymna specifically, it pitches *very* well to Solitude and March of Otherworldly light. At the very least, flying seems superior to menace.
I feel like it's not a good idea to play a card only for it to be pitched to either chrome mox or solitude. What if you don't draw anything that pitches it? And when it enters the Battlefield, what does it do? Nothing. What does it do the turn after? Doesn't really matter, the risk for it being a dead card is just too high.
For Smoke Bomb I think it works really well for comboing a sac outlet, Kenrith, and Dockside. I have won a few cEDH game recently with Phyrexian Altar, Kenrith, and Dockside. Keep reanimating dockside because it doesnt have shroud in the yard and it protects Kenrith while you combo off
One major part about Alexios that makes him markedly different from Slicer is that Slicer is *goaded*, but Alexios says he "must attack but *can't* attack his owner". It's not conditional. That means when it finally gets around to you and 1 other opponent, he can't attack you at all. I'm not sure how often that will come into play, but it is something to be considered.
Crystal skull for elsha could be like if you're running two or three copies of "artifacts cost 1 less to cast" it allows you to play divining top off the top without needed your commander so it's definitely something. Plus it taps for mana so there's also something
It should be noted that both Altair and The Animus exile things with and care about Memory counters. So Altair can make copies of your legendary creatures in exile with memory counters every time he attacks and the Animus can make your Legendary creatures turn into the "assassins" that Altair has exiled.
I think the apple is interesting for protecting yourself when you plan to win. You can essentially take all the cards out of the hand of someone you might anticipate would have interaction before you pop off.
That was actually a good explanation of assassins creed! Living out someone’s past life to solve a present problem. I’m a fan haven’t played all but I would’ve been fine without this set
@@coreyspencer3635 yeah Magda already does the vehicle dwarf thing in mono red so not too difficult to manage especially with black and blue at your disposal now

Shao Jun does have some nice utility with curiosity effects! Hitting each opponent with the tap two artifacts thing can let you do some shenanigans!! Also if you wanna get silly, you can always go infinite by using Malcolm and a way of making it a pirate!!
Of note with Altair and The Animus, Animus exiles with a memory counter and Altair only cares if they have a memory counter on them. So you can technically use them as a way to make token copies of things like villis razaketh and the like
The loyal inventor might be a Nadu card? If you only have say lightning greaves atm, you can loyal inventor for another body, and put your Shuko on to, so you can get the Shuko with a trigger and use the greaves to protect the bird
leonardo da vinci was a cool card i was hoping to see you guys talk about cause it could be played like a mono blue Daretti and because its blue artifact tutors, and card draw and counterspells i think it would be like a really cool alternate urza stax commander
shao jun is able to break parody on all the artifact stax cards and goes kinda crazy with curiosity so you can play a niv mizzet in there just for the potential outlet
Just a quick point, when interacting with the Thassa's Oracle/Demonic Consultation and bouncing Oracle, the card draw of Escape Detection is not optional. It could cause you to lose the game on the stack, while trying to avoid losing the game on the stack.
25:34 desmond miles is from ac3 and every game prior to it lol he was the “original main character” to me since the franchise is telling a frame story (the modern time is the real story of the franchise, but they use the past time as kind of a plot device to further the real story)
Loyal Inventor would be good for anyone still playing Orvar. Since Orvar is an Assassin it finds your Sapphire Medallion or your Coveted Jewel straight to your hand.
It’s super niche, but Layla Hassan works as an additional copy of Lurrus to combo with Displacer Kitten and either Lotus Petal or Lion’s Eye Diamond for infinite mana. Probably not worth it, but may be playable in something like Marneus Calgar.
I know vehicles tend to not be cedh viable but I really think the “Jackdaw” should have been brought up in discussion as a viable draw engine, especially in underworld breach decks.
I'm loving Etali in my kenrith! Won me 3 games recently. I do like evolution witness in the list. I kinda wasn't seeing enough value from e-witness I'm still testing but so far it's paid off

Im pretty sure the apple goes in oswald and maybe the smokebomb to. With the apple you can steal someones interaction when you try to win if you can guess who has interaction.
You might be able to swing slicer first but alexios is cheaper in the sense you can turn one him and he will immediately get bigger which can be done off of jeweled lotus and a land
There is another way to exile cards with memory counters for Altair Ibn-La'Ahad: its The Animus! Still probably a jank combo, and has a different narrow restriction (has to be a legendary creature), but food for thought...
Loyal inventor i think for sure goes into elsha since she will just play the top or helm of awakening, and the inventor has some weird applications maybe as you can fimige your inventor since it will get both pieces of the combo online

Evolution witness and LED in Ghave makes infinite mana, bodies, infinite sized bodies, and recur all permanents in grave infinitely, with infinite sacrifice
important to note is that alexios having trample if he is blocked by anyone the player controlling them can ignor trample and put all the damageo n the creature that is blcoking it but i think its still better then sliver as its cheaper and it is already better then sliver after 1 full turn cycle
as an slicer enjoyer here, you play for the commander damage on slicer, not combat damage in general, so you don't want Alexios, plus it's strenght becomes palpable when turns go by, and slicer decks don't have that time, if players survive, they will overvalue you 100% of the time
