Really great tutorial. However, would it be possible to format an external drive, to backup Windows and Mac? Windows would be a one-file image, but I don't think Mac is so. By the way, I am a Windows guy and my kids have MacBook Airs.
Hi, Thank you for contacting us. The drive is compatible with NTFS file system for Windows and HFS+ J file system for macOS in terms of formatting. However, if you require the drive to function on both operating systems, exFAT file system is recommended, as it supports cross-platform usage. For more information on formatting the drive, please refer to Answer ID: 8200 (support-in.wd.com/app/answers/detailweb/a_id/8200 ). Also, Acronis True Image for Western Digital can be utilized to backup all data from the PC to the external drive. We are sorry for the inconvenience. We recommend that you try connecting the drive to another computer by using a different cable and checking the status of the drive in Disk Management. If the problem persists, please open a ticket at (support-en.wd.com/app/askweb ) with the screenshot.
